1. As a result of the new CBN guide, transactions below ₦5,000 would incur a maximum fee of ₦10; transfers between ₦5000 and ₦50,000 will attract a charge of ₦25; and transfers beyond ₦50,000 will receive a charge of ₦50.
2. The present Account Card Maintenance cost has been eliminated because the accounts already have an Account Maintenance Fee. Savings Accounts will now be charged a Card Maintenance cost of ₦50 every quarter, rather than ₦50 every month.
3. The annual card maintenance cost for cards denominated in foreign currency (FCY) has been decreased from $20 to $10.
4. After the third withdrawal within a month, ATM fees are lowered to ₦35 from ₦65.
5. The charge for a hardware token will be based on cost recovery and will be capped at ₦2,500, down from the previous maximum charge of ₦3,500.
6. Fees for required SMS alerts will be based on a Cost-recovery Model, with a maximum price of ₦4 in place previously.
7. Payment of bills via e-channels will incur a maximum charge of ₦500, based on 0.75 percent of the transaction value up to ₦1,200.

INTERNET BANKING
Hardware Token — There is a maximum charge of ₦2,500 for cost recovery.
There is no payment for the Software Token – One-Time Password (OTP). Charges will be based on a cost recovery basis if the OTP is delivered to the customer through SMS.
Replacement of hardware tokens — Cost recovery is limited to ₦2,500. Only in the event of physical damage, token loss, or replacement after expiration will the customer be charged.
Payment of bills (including payments made through other E-channels) – Negotiable and limited to ₦500 per beneficiary payable by the sender.

Survival and journey to the top of Nigerian financial institutions is laden with a lot of challenges. Staff have over time devised many coping mechanisms not only to retain their jobs, manage their bosses, wade off competing colleagues but also to wangle their ways to the top of the management cadre.

Below are some of the identified methods staff have perfected to achieve their professional growth objectives:

1. COMPETENCE: This is a never failing route. The staff develops self with good eduction, requisite skills and good work attitude that makes him/her deliver on any assigned tasks.

This group of staff man the sensitive positions in Risk Management, Corporate Banking,Treasury, Financial Control, IT and Bank Operations. Financial institutions know that it's very expensive or costly to staff very sensitive areas with incompetent fellows.
This group are rewarded based on the company's need for them.

2. EYE SERVICE: This has been a time-tested tool employed by both the competent and incompetent to advance in their careers. It's all about packaging your supervisor and management of his/her impression of you as very a very excellent staff best fit for the assigned role.

The masters of eye-service would always praise their superiors to high heavens and would even scandalise other staff to gratify the ultimate boss. They are weather readers and are capable of knowing what pleases the master and effortlessly take care of your them.

A little of this eye-service method is essential in Nigeria for anybody wishing for a good appraisal by an emotional boss. You should know the boss' birthday and that of the members of his family. Daily compliment of boss' dressing is key as well as occasional arrangement of gifts.

To avoid an evaporation of achievements via eye-service, the practitioner refrains from making open negative remarks about the boss.

Most foolish bosses are deceived by eye-service. However, a competent staff with a mastery of eye-service normally makes it to the very top of the organisation.

3. AMOROUS TOOL: Many staff have secured an unfair advantage over their colleagues through application of waist power. The ignorant thinks that this group excludes males. All sexes are neck-deep in this practice.

The practising staff wilfully seduces the boss, supplying the boss with free and tantalising sex, more salacious than what the boss is used to at home and non-committal affections in exchange for promotion and job retention assurance. Some bosses are so hypnotised that they allow the favoured staff to help appraise his or her colleagues or even determine who gets what and when. Both married and single staff members are neck-deep in this practice.

Many bosses especially the males get so used to this favour that they begin to feel that it's an entitlement and as such, begin to demand it from other unwilling staff through subtle coercion. Many females' staff careers have been truncated or stagnated because they refused to comply.

Also, some guys who refused to decode subtle overtures by their female bosses have had bitter career experience to narrate. I know, because I have been a victim even with my not- so- handsome looks. My madam liked me and I didn't decode. This nearly finished my career. How wish it was now!

The potent secret of this tool is that the compromised staff would always exert an emotional concession or even manipulation of the boss, favourable postings and promotions years after stoppage of copulation even though Okafor's Law may apply.

Some staff involved have little regards for marital fidelity or ethics. Some of them regard their shameful act a self preserving and an economic duty to all that depend on the income they make while remaining in their jobs and also the incremental income that comes with promotion. The single ones view the act very key to achieve their goals after all their boyfriends or girlfriends add no more economic value to their lives.

To further ensure performance, some staff already used to this method provide this kind of service to retain their valued customers. Some customers need to be happy to channel business to a bank. It is up to the customer and the bank staff to define what is needed and provided.

4. DESCRETE INFORMANT: There are staff who feel inadequate and knowingly lack requisite skills and performance levels but have remained powerful and protected by the employers or management for reasons unknown to colleagues.

They are the bosses' informants. They update the boss of what happened behind him, who said or did what, who is sleeping with who and other unofficial background information. With the information provided, the boss appears like a talisman because he has at his disposal, valuable intelligence reports courtesy of the gossip merchant.

The staff involved choose the venue and means of passing the surreptitiously gathered information to the boss so as not to reveal his/her acts to suspecting colleagues.

5. CHARMERS: This is a group of staff with very charming personality. They have this aura that makes the bosses like them. They are not necessarily high performers but are exceptionally promoted all the time. The management see them as a must have or as poster staff of the bank. This group of staff look well-groomed, good looking, personable and likeable to bosses and customers alike.

Belonging to charmers' group is not by effort but by nature and background. A charmer who is also a star performer and understands eye-service will surely make it to top management cadre.

6. RELIGIOUS & FETISH GROUP: This group are mostly found in the back office or marketing functions. They present a personality of being of high ethical standards. They behave themselves into positions of trust.

The members of this group acquire all certificates or qualifications to position themselves for any position. Some insecure bosses fall victims to this group. They become the bosses' prayer warriors seeing visions of promotions for them. Most cash pilfering in the banks detected via CCTV has showed the devil side of these brethren.

There are others that are masters of spiritual influence. They poison fellow staff they consider threats to their ambition. These guys are senior members of satanic covens who could enlist their relations to help them deal with their enemies.

CONCLUSION
All the above-mentioned routes or tools of career advancement in Nigerian banks have their negatives but they surprisingly work for people that are masters in their usage.

But like all created things, mankind and his acts are subject to destiny and God's ultimate will. One may still fail even with the the right skill set.

Do you know that if all married men decide to remain faithful to their wives the people that would suffer the most are WOMEN? Single and even married women.
If they also decide to be unfaithful to their wives the victim are also WOMEN. Their wives.
Here are basic/fundamental HARD truths about cheating or the side chic phenomenon;
1* Cheating is morally/socially reprehensible but economically beneficial.
Cheating husbands finance the life and lifestyle of many single women and ensure an equitable distribution of wealth and resources so that money is evenly distributed in the economy. That's because the side chic too will spend the money and spread it around to her friends, relatives and business contacts. It's the Domino Effect.
In other words, many women would be poor and miserable today if all married men decided to be faithful to their wives. And if these women are poor and miserable it means many more would be harmed and negatively impacted. For example, their immediate family.
Yes, many side chics help their immediate family with money and networking, especially if their married boyfriends are highly connected.
In summary, the side chic industry is good for wealth distribution especially because most cheating husbands are folks with access to great wealth and connections.
2* Broken Vows.
Side chics are not the problem. Married men are.
There is always this unhealthy and unwarranted focus on and condemnation of side chics in our society. I think this is misguided. Side chics aren't the problem.
A side chic is under no statutory or moral obligation to anyone. The married man is. He took an oath with his wife before the Law and the Lord and he is ignoring both.
I am saying that the side chic phenomenon wouldn't exist if husbands kept their vows. Even if all the single women in the world are greenlighting you as a married man, you would still have to consent for anything to happen.
More focus should be on married men rather than side chics, except if the side chic is also married, which is rare.
3* Side chic-ism is often KARMA.
Karma in principle is the result of a person's actions. It is the law of cause and effect. It is a universal law. It is also a spiritual law. See Genesis 8:22.
I know for a fact that there will be a lot of side chics and heartbroken wives in the foreseeable future. Why?
Because someday all the present side chics will get married and then this law or principle takes effect. Their actions today will haunt them tomorrow. They would retire from the side chic hustle and then a new generation of hot girls would take over, and the cycle continues.
Life responds to laws. You don't get to sleep with other people's husbands today and think that yours will be spared by young girls tomorrow.
Many of our married women today were side chics at some point in the past. Many dated married men while they were on campus or slept with married men for either an opportunity or a favour. Karma (an Hindu/Buddha concept) is damn real. Sooner or later it kicks in.
So, if you don't want to put that law in motion, stay away from married men today. This is why a part of me is cynical when a married woman complains that her husband is a public d**k. I remember karma.
4* Every side chic, a potential wife.
Let's be biologically honest, shall we?
Men are polygamous by nature. Women are hypergamous by nature. The combined effect is men marrying more than one wife and women agreeing to become second or third wife because MOST women seek security above fidelity.
That means most women wouldn't mind being number 2 or 3 if they could get financial and emotional security in return. It is a good trade off as far as women are concerned.
Any woman who can agree to be a side chic knowing you are already married can also be a second or third wife. It shows that women can handle competition if they're benefitting or profiting from it. This is why polygamy is possible.
Contrary to urban belief being pushed by third wave feminists, women are not polygamous by nature. No woman wants to MARRY two or three men because men aren't wired to share same women, and moreover there is nothing to gain (for men) because men are not hypergamous by nature.
Men generally marry women who are either lower or equal to them on the economic ladder. Women generally marry men who are higher to them on the economic ladder. And since more men make money than women, they also tend to marry more women.
5* Polygamy is LEGALIZED side-chic-ism.
Ideally, marriage is MONOGAMOUS.
This is the position of ALL ABRAHAMIC RELIGIONS namely;
Judaism.
Christianity.
Islam.
Yes, even Islam essentially supports monogamy.
I was surprised when a Muslim scholar and friend told me that Islam does not command or mandate polygamy but rather a monogamous union. However Islam makes room for certain exceptions which is what most adherents now take advantage of to justify their lust for more wives. The exception became the rule.
In other words, even in Islam the ideal marriage is a monogamous marriage.
Of course both Judaism and Christianity frown strictly against polygamy.
So what that means is that polygamy is really nothing but legalising the side chic industry. It is advanced or glorified side chic-ism.
In fact, some wives would rather have their husband cheat with the side chic in front of them and not behind them, and then ask that he marries her as wife. Such wives want to know and monitor their competition. Hence you have POLYGAMY.
All these are true about the side chic phenomenon, except we want to delude ourselves with untruths.

General Yakubu Gowon led our country at a most difficult period in the course of which we fought a three-year civil war, it stands to reason that he would definitely represent several things to several people. I am also aware of the charge against Gowon, especially with regard to some of the choices he made as a leader the repercussions of which we are still grappling with today. While those are legitimate issues that deserve interrogation, they are not the essence of this intervention which is about the person of Yakubu Gowon.
For a man who ruled this country for as long as nine years and has been around in Nigeria for more than three decades after he returned from exile abroad, it is amazing that there has never been any scandal (financial, political or moral) around Gowon or members of his family. In the particular case of his wife, you hardly see her in any event except those attended by her husband and we are talking of a woman, if we believe all that are in the history books, who once commanded the attention of our nation by her beauty and grace.
In a milieu where the ethos of the leadership elite is that enough is never enough, the Gowons are in a class by themselves. In all the stories of fuel subsidy payment scams, there has not been a Gowon involved and you will not find that name among the private jet owners. In none of the public enterprises that have been privatized has the name of Gowon (or his children) ever been mentioned as one of the buyers or promoters of the bidding companies. I am also not aware of any big edifice anywhere in Nigeria to which someone would point and say “Gowon owns it”.
As a former leader, Gowon carries himself with so much dignity that you cannot but admire him while he lives an almost-perfect family life that you wonder why he chose the military rather than follow his parents into the Christian missionary field. Whatever may be anybody’s misgivings about the stewardship of Gowon as Head of State, what is not in doubt is that he commands respect by the exemplary manner in which he has lived his life outside public office.

The most painful thing, in my view, is when you are wrongly accused or the facts are deliberately twisted just to achieve a political end. Your name is ruined even if, legally speaking, nothing could be proved against you. An example that easily comes to mind is the ouster of Mrs Olubunmi Patricia Etteh as speaker of the house of representatives in October 2007 after she had spent just four months in the saddle. She had set the record as the first (and only) female speaker in the history of Nigeria, but some people were resistant to the idea that both chambers of the national assembly were being led by people of the same religion. Also, some conservatives could not stomach subjecting themselves to the leadership of a woman. They moved against her.
Hon. Farouk Lawan led an “Integrity Group” that cooked up allegations of fraud against her. They said she illegally awarded contracts of N628million for the renovation of her official residence and that of her deputy. She was also accused of buying 12 cars. She was forced to quit and Hon. Dimeji Bankole was installed for religious balancing in the leadership of the national assembly. How many Nigerians today know that Etteh did not commit any offence, that she awarded no contracts (that’s the job of the national assembly tenders board, chaired by the senate president), and that she did not steal a kobo? Most importantly, how many Nigerians know that the house apologised to Etteh at its last sitting in 2011, saying there was no fraud? That’s the part that pains me the most.

Findings by TheCable showed there is no evidence indicating that the federal government shut the department for allegedly producing bombs and other ammunition for soldiers during the war as claimed by the publication.

The faculty of engineering in UNN currently has six departments namely — agricultural and bioresources engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, electronic engineering, mechanical engineering as well as metallurgical and materials engineering.

Given no varsity can operate effectively during a war, activities were suspended at UNN while the civil war lasted, forcing many departments to close down. For instance mechanical engineering was shut during the period.

When contacted by TheCable, Emeka Simon Obe, the dean, faculty of engineering, dismissed the claim. He described such narrative as a myth that has been misconstrued as fact over the years.

Obe said the faculty indeed had chemical engineering department in the past but it ceased to exist in the 1980s because its “main players” left Nigeria in search of greener pastures.

The development, he said, made it impossible for the institution to sustain the programme at the time. The dean, however, said efforts are currently ongoing to start the programme again.

“It’s not true. We don’t have department of chemical engineering for now but we’re trying to put up one. We used to have before but the chemical engineering department collapsed in the 1980s — not even during the war — because the main players in the faculty then left,” the dean said.

“At the point, the country was very hard so those running it left Nigeria for greener pastures abroad and so it was no longer possible to run the programme.

“People have that myth it was because UNN was used during the Nigerian civil war that they closed the department but it’s not true. There’s no record to show that. Anyone saying that should provide a record to proof such.”

Also speaking, Okwun Omeaku, the varsity’s public relations officer (PRO), described such claim as a “social media report”.

“I don’t know if there’s fact anywhere. I don’t know if federal government shut anywhere or not. I don’t know where you got such information from,” he told TheCable.

“I’m not aware of that. I don’t react to social media reports. I don’t take question and answers about social media publications.”

VERDICT: The claim that the government shut UNN’s chemical engineering department is misleading as there is no evidence to support such. The narrative can best be described as false.
