16 Oct 2012 Font Size: a / A Prof. Bart Nnaji Chineme Okafor Enugu State, which produced the last Minister of Power, Prof. Bart Nnaji, may lose the portfolio, THISDAY learnt Monday. It was gathered that as President Goodluck Jonathan intensifies efforts to replace Nnaji, who resigned from the position in August, he has not been satisfied with the calibre of the persons being suggested by the state to replace the former minister and is considering looking elsewhere for a new person to man the Power Ministry. In addition, the president is shopping for a new Minister of Defence to replace Dr. Haliru Bello, from Kebbi State, who was sacked in June along with the National Security Adviser, Lt.-Gen. Andrew Owoeye Azazi. However, THISDAY checks revealed that should another state produce the Minister of Power, Jonathan might have to carry out a cabinet reshuffle to accommodate a representative of the Enugu State in the Federal Executive Council (FEC). Presidency source said the nominees for Nnaji’s replacement submitted by the Enugu State Governor, Mr. Sullivan Chime, may not have met Jonathan’s expectations and were also being opposed by some stakeholders from the state. The nominees are Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Mr. Vita Abba, a fellow of the Nigeria Society of Engineers, and Pro- Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri; President of the Nigeria Institute of Management, Dr. Sally Adukwu Bolujoko and the state Commissioner of Land, Dr. Emeka Ujam. Both Abba and Bolujoku are from Enugu North senatorial district although the woman is married to an indigene of Kogi State while Ujam is from Enugu East senatorial district. Chime was said to have submitted the names of his nominees to the president shortly before he left the country for a six-week vacation abroad. The governor is said to have drawn up the list without consulting some critical stakeholders from the state like the Seputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu. However, it was learnt that Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator Anyim Pius, is pushing the candidacy of Mr. Ferdinand Agu who is his special aide, for the job. Chime who was said to have initially rejected the suggestion, reportedly changed him mind upon his realisation that Agu is a native of Udi. THISDAY learnt that Jonathan has not accepted any of the nominees, including Agu, an architect. Source said Agu’s candidacy might not sail through because being an architect, Jonathan cannot afford to have two of them in the power ministry. The Minister of State for Power, Mr. Darius Ishaku, is also an architect. Another factor likely to work against Agu is that being from the governor’s place, giving him the job would concentrated political appointments in his zone, especially when the former Minister of Aviation, Mrs Fidelia Njeze, who is now an ambassador, is from the governor’s hometown. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/enugu-may-lose-power-ministry/127774/ |
thirdeye: But with Opara fame and wealth he can afford to sleep with lots of women. Why chose this part? It will be good to hear his own side of the story.don't hold your breath. any man that rapes is mentally unstable. i hope he has sought psychiatric help in prison? |
dayokanu: This was the Godwin Okpara that Pele said is destined for greatnessAll na greatness!! scum of the earth. Pele was not far from the truth. |
dayokanu: Call him and sit downyou talk so much sense when you feel like, other times you make so much fun of serious matters. Where does the bold part fall? In view of your numerous female conquests here should the OP be blushing? |
disturbedman: Let me add that there is no question about my love for her. But she has become insulting and very disrespectful even at the slightest opportunity. For example, there was an argument sometimes ago and I said to my wife "O go fun nkan ti o so yen (you are stupid to have said that)" to which she replied "iwo naa go. O go o fi enu ho ara (you are more than stupid as well)"Let me add that there is no question about my love for her...............dude, there is a question. she is not convinced and that is the crux of the matter. i know men who thought as much and came back home to an empty house one day. sometimes ago and I said to my wife "O go fun nkan ti o so yen (you are stupid to have said that)............I don't want to sound judgemental as i have my own issues, but how do you even say such to your wife? I am un interested i her response afterwards but you should never use such words to the mother of your children. Of course her mail is full of exaggerations but disputing the contents is not my motive here............and it should never be your motive. the fact that she is upset enough to write this to you and its contents are not completely lies means that their are genuine issues worth addressing. But how do you forgive and forget this type of insults from your wife whom you are already quarrelling with over similar issues?..........you forgive and forget such insults by choosing to forgive and forget. forgiving and forgetting does not mean the issues should not be addressed. it means that you accept defeat and start on a clean slate by addressing her exaggerated complaints. Dude, i have not gone through all the comments here but my little advice is this; take her complaints serious. be the bigger man and forgive/forget. take your wife out maybe for a day (if logistically possible), address each and every complaint of hers made in this mail, make vocalised commitments to how you intend to address each of them and mean them. Notice i did not ask you to make your own complaints during that date. let it just be about her. From that mail i am convinced that you are not married to a mad woman. She will also make her own adjustments for you. I wish you well and may your marriage prevail. Now let me go and address my own issues. We all have them in our relationships. |

The less said about Atedo Peterside, the better. Even when he speaks the truth, his arrogance makes it unacceptable. |
2mch: People should start recording conversations with politicians. When they are afraid of the unknown they will sit up. This controversy about Arik and Air Nigeria, Jimoh does not have a good track record with managing businesses. He runs them like a provision shop. While Arik is fast becoming a suspiciously cheaply maintained, international disaster waiting to happen. Until we increase the standards our carriers are held by, and consider the human factor. We will have the wrong people in this industry. Any allegation that the finance minister asked for a stake should be thoroughly investigated. If found wanting, she should be dismissed. I don't support the idea of a national carrier. Anything national we have done has been a big failure. Let the people who can handle the business, and work with social and corporate responsibility in mind do so.i agree with you. As much as i will like all accusations investigated, Jimoh Ibrahim and Arumemi-Ikhide are not good witnesses in the court of public opinion. They come to equity with very tainted and soiled hands. |
Last week Thursday Arik Air, Nigeria’s de facto “national carrier”, was in limbo, with all its domestic flights grounded. I was a victim, stuck in Port Harcourt “International” Airport for many hours, until good fortune intervened in the form of an Aero Contractors plane diverted from Owerri late in the day (night actually), which evacuated many of us stranded Lagos-bound passengers. Arik’s domestic operations had been disrupted by the aviation unions, but there was no doubt in anyone’s mind who had ministered the instigation! At the time of Arik’s grounding, the airline was responsible for perhaps seventy percent or more of domestic flights with the exit of DANA Airlines, Air Nigeria, First Nation Airways and Chanchangi Airlines. The only alternatives to Arik – Aero and IRS – accounted for less than thirty percent of domestic passenger traffic. And once Arik was grounded, aviation services effectively came to a halt within Nigeria! Only an irresponsible manager could have conspired to foist such a situation on Nigerians. The cost in economic and social terms to the Nigerian nation was incalculable! The political goodwill lost by President Jonathan was not quantifiable! As I sat along with hundreds other frustrated Nigerians AND EXPATRIATES in shabby and uncomfortable airport terminals, I wondered how Nigeria got this way. The apparent offence of Arik was that it owed aviation agencies some amount which was itself a subject of disagreement between the airline and the aviation authorities. How come the sector unions woke up one day and proceeded to disrupt airline operations? Is that one of the functions of trade unions? Was there any connection between the action taken against Arik and the request by a National Assembly committee that Arik be designated the nation’s official national carrier? I recall that the current minister of aviation, Stella Oduah (Ogiemwonyi), has a pet project of creating a national carrier for the country? I also recall Air Nigeria’s proprietor, Jimoh Ibrahim, declaring in the wake of the airline’s troubles that he would not be blackmailed into being part of any national carrier project? Is there any truth to these blackmail allegations? We have since heard rumours of demands by someone for five percent of Arik’s shareholding. Is there any truth in these allegations? Who made such demands? We have also heard rumours that the purported demands were expressed to have been on behalf of a higher authority? Is this true? These are allegations that require immediate investigation by law enforcement agencies – the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) and the police – so that the confidence of Nigerians and the international community in our government and aviation sector will not be irreparably damaged! Now we have numerous controversies in the sector, including the forceful ejection of MAEVIS Limited, FAAN’s erstwhile revenue concessionaire, from the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos; the ministry’s troubles with Bi-Courtney, the concessionaire who built the MM2 domestic terminal; the banning and unbanning of DANA Airlines in the aftermath its air crash; the grounding and exit from the industry of Air Nigeria; and now the current problems of Arik Air. Are the officers in charge promoting or destroying the fortunes of the sector? Given reports that the minister is very close to President Jonathan, I have a suspicion that the presidency may sooner than later suffer grave embarrassment on account of the activities of this ministry! “Madam Aviation” is not the only friend of the president that may cause him serious headache. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has recently released a list of AMCON debtors whom it has restrained Deposit Money Banks from extending further credit to. At the very top of the list is a notable friend of Mr President and member of the regime’s National Economic Management Team (NEMT), Femi Otedola. According to the CBN, Otedola’s company owes AMCON N192.4bn. Other major debtors who may be considered proximate to the presidency include Patrick Ifeanyi Uba’s Capital Oil and Gas (N48bn); Arumemi-Ikhide’s (also owner of Arik!) Rockson Engineering which owes N60.4bn; recently resigned power minister, Barth Nnaji, whose Geometric Engineering owes N19.7bn; Wale Babalakin whose three companies – Bi-Courtney Limited, Roygate Properties, and Resort International are indebted to the combined total of N54.2bn; former minister of interior, Emmanuel Iheanacho, whose Integrated Oil and Gas owes N6.7bn; and Gitto Construzioni whose debt stands at N11.83bn. I recall warning on these pages about the dangers of crony capitalism, a path we now seem to be treading. This style will only get our president into trouble, in office or afterwards! Talking about the NEMT and the president’s friends, I was amused to notice the president deploying three “billionaire” members of the team (Atedo Peterside; Femi Otedola; and Aig-Imoukhuede) to persuade Nigerians about the merits of Sanusi Lamido’s N5,000 note. Did the presidency think these very rich men could persuade poor and angry Nigerians to support the policy? Anyway, while Otedola and Imoukhuede were a bit circumspect, Peterside blasted: “If I was the one, I would have printed N10,000!” or words to same effect. How does he feel now that the policy has been “suspended”? Someone should please beg our respected Atedo Peterside to stay out of public advocacy – it is evidently not his calling! http://www.businessdayonline.com/NG/index.php/component/k2/item/41-madam-aviation-and-the-president%E2%80%99s-friends |
by the way, David Mark is the scum of the earth as far as the political class is concerned. the likes of Ibori and Uba can seize all the front page for their corrupt tendencies, however i believe that the likes of Mark are more dangerous to our collective polity due to their consistent and insistent effort to maintain the status quo. the status quo is what is killing this country and men like David Mark are the greatest proponents. |
acidtalk: Maku should look back and see the lifes of Jerry Gana, Audu Ogba, Fani Kayode, Ojo Madueke and tell us if they didn't say and do worse than he is doing presently. Nothing last forever.good point you have there. if he looks at the lives of those guys he will see no reason to change. For all the curses Nigerians rained on those guys, they are still part of the gravy train and save for a revolution will be part of it till they go to the grave. Give me one reason why Maku should be any different? |
chamotex: Why must it be our best defender ... tightness in the knee. I hope it's not the same knee.same knee |
Jarus: Ijeoma can be arrogant. She once had hot phone exchange with SLS, but she later apologised. She also once caused stirs in Tinubu's camp when she wrote an article finishing Tinubu.Jarus, please read that article again. Anyway, i may be biased cos i have a soft spot for Ms. Otteh. the lady fine, i no go lie ![]() |
Jarus: I didnt get what you meant here.it was an article where she claimed she had spoken to SLS and he had confirmed to her that there was no plan to move in on the earlier mentioned 3 and take over the banks. Less than 48hrs later, he did exactly what Ijeoma had written SLS told her he had no plan of doing and she had claimed were unfounded rumours. Wish i had the article's title. Used to respect Ijeoma but her arrogance in the face of that matter as she refused to apologise to her readers and her recent vicious attack on Otteh while putting up an infantile defence for Ndi Okereke made me give up on Ijeoma. |
What ailment exactly are we praying against? Has her sickness being disclosed? has it even been confirmed officially that she is ill? |
Jarus: First, SLS is not interested in politics. He will not. He was never a politician. He used to be a critic at best. This is authoritative.Jarus, don't go there o! This man gave his word to Ijeoma Nwaogugu on some policy decision (around that Akingbola/Ibru/Atuche) and Ijeaoma went to down with it,sounding smug. Within 24hrs, SLS justified the rumour in town and Ijeoma was made to look like a fool and with egg on her face. |
Pukkah: Obviously, his N5,000 and coins debacle were not well thought-out hence his resort to abuse and condescending statements. He over-heated the polity for nothing (and he has done this many times to the fragile economy). The mere fact that the policy was roundly condemned and overruled is enough reason for him to resign. But he won't for so many reasons. The man's comportment and personality is just not suited to the reserve bank governorship. He talks way too much. I repeat that he will do wonders as a task force chairman. one of these task forces designed to catch a bunch of thieves. I'll remain grateful to him for the way he smoked out and chased Atuche/Akingbola/Ibru out of town. |
Jarus: First, SLS is not interested in politics. He will not. He was never a politician. He used to be a critic at best. This is authoritative.Jarus, SLS special adviser on NL matters. You are too biased to proffer an opinion on this matter. btw, you changed your number and did not say. Called you all through the fast and subsequent sallah but your phone was switched off. Abi you go lesser Hajj? |
Nani deserves a pay cut. |
coogar: another rape session in our midfield. ferguson is a tool - the biggest tool ever. he is sacrificing energy for experience after watching what diaby did to the liverpool midfield? is ferguson mentally-ill? anderson/cleverley are brimming with energy to harass and press for the ball - giggs cannot do anything. he cannot pass, he cannot tackle and he cannot press - why is he in the team @ anfield of all places? You and i have disagreed often but on this note, i agre wholly with you. I have given up on our midfield until Giggs/Scholes resign. Same way i am confused by this De Gea treatment. The less said about Nani the better. Lad stank the place out with his performance. |
Having said that, SLS is best suited for temp role something like a task force. He does not have the cerebral capacity nor the temperament for the reserve bank governorship. The man just talks too much for such a sensitive position. some of his propositions are not even well thought out and he defends them like a fanatic. |
Sanusi talks too much for a reserve bank governor. the only reason why i give him the time of day is that he dealt with the likes of Atuche,Akingbola and Ibru. Unfortunately he has not dealt with the systemic issues that produced such crooks. A new breed of gangsters have emerged in the industry. Even some of the CBN appointed execs in some of the rescued banks were worse. |
AjanleKoko: LOL. I was going to post a contrarian view, until I saw the word 'unprotected'. ![]() |
Unprotected sex outside marriage (either as a single person or as a married person committing adultery). There is no defence for such irresponsibility. |
78)AVM. TOMBOIYI Joystick IRUENABERE NIG. AIR FORCE (AIR VICE MARSHAL) (OON) Is this a joke or what? seems this filter no dey respect person o? |
When I find the person that makes me feel I can do this forever, then I am ready." Bimbo Akintola, 37.
But that is no guarantee that it will last forever, so why bother? According to her logic, there is no need marrying cos there is no guarantee that it will last forever. Bimbo is a very intelligent and eccentric lady besides being a talented actress but this her argument is not it. I agree with the part about not marrying for people, infact i am not even convinced that all should marry but that highlighted part is flawed. |
Ibime: Tactics is not rocket science. Most people talk of tactics in awe like it's harder than waec. Most of the managers you see cannot rub two gcses together. Key to management is man management and avb simply doesn't have it. He's already got tom Huddleston tweeting nasty things about him.Gbam. |
The 31-year-old angered Fiorentina when he turned his back on them last Thursday, one day before the end of the transfer window. The player then rejected the chance to move to Juventus. "He did not deserve our city and our shirt and the values it represents," Fiorentina said in a statement. Berbatov said: "It's stressful. One club called, then another, and a third, and then another. A man can go crazy at one point. I'm a human being and it's normal for me to hesitate." "I've never personally told them, 'Yes, I'll play for you'," he said. "It's not my problem that someone is disappointed. After all, I choose where to play and be happy." say what you like, i respect this lad. |
