Kobojunkie:
I would rather wait to hear what he has to say instead of assuming this is yar adua trying to "PLAY" the white house with sweet talk , LMAO!! That is actually BAD if that turns out to be what he was doing when he made the statement.
For the records we are not arguing that Yaradua lied to outsmart President Bush, we only said the Nigeria media may have misrepresented and misquoted Yaradua's position on this issue as quotes from Yaradua which were not in the extreme does not suggest what the media was trying to potray. We are also saying that quotes from the Foreign Minister which was in the extreme was outrightly different from the media's position.

Hence it is not a case of Yaradua lying but rather a possible misrepresentation of Government's position by the Nigerian media.

Yaradua did not even have a slip of tongue

He simply emphsized on what he agreed with Bush but remained silent on their disagreement.

Whats the point standing in Oval office and putting up a show for the presshuhhuh??

Even the last time Vladimir Putin visited white house, he did not make noise about arms race and star wars like he normally does.

Nigerian doubts over Africom base
By Alex Last
BBC News, Abuja

Nigerian President Umaru Yar'Adua speaking to the UN General Assembly (26/09/2007)
President Yar'Adua said he would prefer a regional standby force
The Nigerian government has said it would not allow its country to be used as a base for the US-African military command, Africom.

At a meeting of the National Council of State, President Umaru Yar'Adua said that Nigeria was also opposed to any such bases in West Africa.

He said Nigeria would prefer to work towards the establishment of an African standby force under regional direction.

The decision leaves Liberia as the only country willing to host the Americans.

There has been considerable unease in many African nations about American plans to establish a new military command for the continent.

Largely to allay those fears, US deputy secretary of state John Negroponte went on an African tour last week, outlining his plans.

But Nigeria, West Africa's regional superpower and key oil supplier to the US, remains unconvinced.

Regional influence

"The president restated the position of Nigeria not permitting a US base in our country or sub-region but to work towards the establishment of an African standby force," said Governor Bukola Saraki after the meeting.

General William Ward
Gen William Ward will be the first commander of Africom

Nigeria is not alone in its opposition - South Africa and Libya have also voiced strong reservations.

They dislike the idea of an American military base in their own backyard, undermining their regional influence.

There is also concern that Africom is really an attempt to protect US oil and mineral interests in Africa, amid growing competition for resources from Asian economies.

Then there are fears about the continent being drawn into the US war on terror.

The US says the base is not about militarisation but consolidating existing operations under one single command, while helping Africans with military training and supporting peacekeeping and aid operations.

But for countries like Nigeria, help is one thing - a base is quite another.

buluti you are quoting the editor of thisday, I am only asking you to quote Yaradua (the President) or Ojo Maduekewe (the foreign minister)

the bits from Yaradua in that same news

We have discussed on security issues, security within Nigeria, the Niger Delta, the Gulf of Guinea and peace and security on the African continent. We shall partner AFRICOM to assist not only Nigeria but also the African continent to actualise its peace and security initiatives. It is an initiative to have standby forces in each of the regional economic groupings in Africa,”
The Bits from Ojo Maduekwe

Nigeria would not support the presence of US troops on African soil under the auspices of AFRICOM.
Even your prefered editor goes further to state thus:
The President did not give details of the discussion on AFRICOM, such as whether Nigeria will be used as the Command’s base, an issue that has emerged contentious in recent times
So where is the basis for your spanish laughter
PoliticsRe: Government Rejects US Military Base In Nigeria by McKren(op): 8:12pm On Dec 14, 2007
it looks as if some of us draw conclusions from headlines.

Read the bits in quote and see if Yaradua said anything new

Even Nigeria's foreign Minister's statement is even more definitive on Nigeria's stance on this issue.

So why the laughter in Latin, well am already laughing in Igbo language
PoliticsRe: Yaradua Is Confused? by McKren(m): 5:51pm On Dec 14, 2007
LOL

Its unfortunate that I have to remind you that Yaradua is Nigeria's President until his election is nullified by the elctoral tribunal and not a case of the electoral tribunal confirming his Presidency. So I honestly dont understand where the talk of he should have waited for Court decision before meeting President Bush is coming from.

The guy is a common fool, we know his target, so he is wasting his time. The proposal will be rejected on the floor of the Senate.

If there is any Government Agency begging for Structural readjustment it is the need to split the office of Attorney General and Minister for Justice, a situation where Micheal Aondoakaa can not see conflicting interest in the operations of the Ministry he heads but takes more interest in the activities of EFCC and how it operates beggars belief.

Why cant we have a legislation demanding that any case handled by ICPC should not be touched by EFCC or CCB and vice versar or why cant we have a situation where ICPC engage in Proactive fight against corruption while EFCC is occupied in retroactive fight against corruption.

Why must it be a mergerhuhhuh??

babasin:
agreed with you but why invite yaradua suddenly when yaradua said nigeria will not host this africom.

i am afraid, nigeria will play more than training role.

yaradua needs bush to solidify his presidency. the nigeria-court will also see that US is already supportting yarada, this will influence outcome of election tribunal.

for this opportunity yaradua will make deal to survive while bush makes deal for US to survive.

Pakistan guy already did similar; made deal for his survival while US makes deal for their own country.
My brother you can accuse President Yaradua of anything you like, but suggesting that he is plotting to stay a further day in power against the will of Nigerians is simply overboard. Facts on ground do not suggest that neither does his personality or history suggest he will do that.

The President simply honoured an invitation from a US President protecting their so called strategic interest and yet to come to terms with the fact that the days when Nigeria and Africa as a whole was monpolised by the west and served as their private garden of resources is coming to an end.

I think the President did ok.
PoliticsRe: Yaradua Is Confused? by McKren(m): 2:21pm On Dec 14, 2007
President Yaradua has not said anything new on the AFRICOM issue.

When he declared that Nigeria will not host or support the siting of AFRICOM anywhere within West Africa, he stated categorically that efforts at training is welcomed.

So in saying that Nigeria will partner Africom on security does not suggest anything new as this partnership could be in terms of military training and exchange of intelligence, it does not mean outright support for building of AFRICOM in Nigeria. To buttress this fact, Ojo Maduekwe the Foreign Minister stated categorically that Nigeria will not host Africom only yesterday you can not assume that Nigeria's foreign affairs minister is not aware of Nigeria's stance on this issue.

This is international diplomacy at work, while we need to look after our National interest we do not want to be unnecessary rivals with America because hate it or love it they play important role in global politics. However we should not play fool to them too.

Not too sure what to beleive anymore, because at the end of the day Micheal Aondoakaa will get back to work and do what he knows how to do best.

The only beneficiary of this whole dramma at the moment is President Yaradua, he is on a visit to US and thus a nosing President Bush will have no business questioning the honesty of Nigeria's anti-corruption war when President Yaradua's highest election donor has just been arrested and prosecuted. A record that even he President Bush can not boast of, but after that Micheal Aondoakaa will get back to work and stall the process.

Fight against corruption with Micheal Aondoakaa still as AGF is an excersize in futility, insincere and unexciting, and to be honest there has been more exciting news about Nigeria in the past 2 days see below (though if taken seriously)

Foreign AffairsRe: Iran's Nuclear Program Peaceful - United States Intelligence by McKren(m): 11:15am On Dec 06, 2007
The startling change in the US intelligence assessment about Iran's nuclear programme is the result of a much more vigorous system introduced since the debacle over Iraq's non-existent weapons of mass destruction
The critics have their doubts

Not that everyone is impressed. President Bush himself picked up the doubts inherent in the NIE and said that Iran remained a danger.

The Israelis have already rejected the NIE finding, claiming that Iran has re-started its nuclear weapons effort.

And critics in the United States are attacking the authors of the report, Mr Fingar among them. The Wall Street Journal said he was one of three "hyper-partisan anti-Bush officials" behind the NIE.

The Carnegie Endowment's Vice President George Perkovich also points out: "The NIE does not say that there should be any confidence that Iran's nuclear program is solely for peaceful purposes, as required under the NPT (the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty)."

And of course there is no guarantee that this report will be any more accurate than the 2005 one. The history of intelligence is signposted by mistakes.

So different institutions within a Government can not make comments or come up with reports not popular with the Presidency or that was not made at the instance of the Presidencyhuh??

I think you are underemployed, go and take over Condi Rice's Job cos you seem to beleive and know about President Bush's govt than his staff.

I-Man

My brother you are simply learning how to do spin

If this report was ochestrated by President Bush's Government, Ehud Barack (Isreali defence minister) will be aware enough not to criticize the report openly.

Qouting "the Times" and telling me its a critic of President Bush is absolutely pointless because no matter how critical the Times is of Bush when it comes to foreign policy their priority will remain saving America's integrity at all cost.
Foreign AffairsRe: Iran's Nuclear Program Peaceful - United States Intelligence by McKren(m): 3:07pm On Dec 05, 2007
I-Man

you are also guilty of misinterpreting the report.

By middle of this year, arround June, July, August, Condo Rice was busy going arround the world trying to get the World to sanction Iran for developing Nuclear Technology. What this NIE report simply means is that if at all Iran was even trying to develop Nuclear bomb it halted it in 2003,

1. So why is Gorge Bush lobbying the world to get a strict sanction against Iran 4yrs laterhuh

2. How many times will the Bush Administration attack another Nation based on false intelligencehuh

3. And why is a justification of Bush's foreign policy stating that Iran has halted its nuclear programme released at a time when America was at the vanguard of getting the UN to sanction Iran for developing nuclear programmehuh.

If anything this report has made President Amadenajad an international political MARTYR

I have been looking at you and just don't want to respond to some of your comments here, anybody who believe's that this NIE report is a justification of Bush's foreign policy will believe anything.

This report simply undermines President Bush's administration and was particularly released to demonstrate that Intelligence Agencies in America are fed up of Propaganda by the Bush Administration, it was also targeted at the war mongers in President Bush's administration because as it stands now they have no basis for their propaganda.

Did you see the Chinese reactionhuhhuh
China's ambassador to the UN, Wang Guangya, said "things have changed" and the push for new sanctions would need to be questioned
China and Russia now have enough reasons to block any UN vote for tough sanctions against Iran.

I know you will come back here copying every line of my comments and doing your normal half baked spin, but take it or leave it "this is a big blow for President Bush's America"

Any person engaging in the sort of spin that even Condo Rice, Donald Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney have failed to achieve is simply engaging in an excersize of futility.

In fact the person is at the wrong place, they should kindly go join President Bush's propaganda machine and see where they will get to with that.

True Americans can not wait to see President Bush go, he is a disaster and failure personified.

For those talking about rogue regimes, there is no better example of a rogue regime than President Bush's America. Except of course you are one of those who define rogue regimes as simply "America's rivals".

Just go look up the dictionary definition of the word "rogue" or "rogue regime" and see if you find any definition that is uncharacteristic of President Bush's America and President Bush's personality.

If Bush has any life in him he should appologise to Americans for bringing their country to an all time low, he should also appologise to Iran and the whole world in general.

Do you sincerely believe that Bakassi belongs to Nigeria (rather than being inhabited by people who now refers to themselves as Nigerians who could have been Biafrans for example) based on the maps Of Nigeria and Cameroon drawn by the European Powers (Colonizers) and from the Picture shown above?
Dont start a debate you can not win

There are defects in that map as Akinjide stated, it did not take into cognisance the wish of Obong of Calabar or the then Calabar people in general, just the like the present ICJ ruling did not take into cognisance the wish of the Present day Bakassi people.

No one else know the Nationality of the Bakassi people than the Bakassi people themselves.

And any attempt to present defective maps drawn during the colonial era is simply celebrating the colonial and slave trade era.

Arround the world the West are appologising for what their forefathers did, if we are upholding the wish of our colonial masters against the wish of the inhabitants of Bakassi (in terms of defining the Nationality of Bakassi) then we simply have no right to grief of our history.
