Culture › Re: Aba, Ngwa, Abiriba And Arochuwkwu Are Ancestral Ibibio Land. by MetaPhysical: 3:00am On Jan 07, 2020
pazienza:
The Aba in Aba Ngwa does not have the same meaning as that in Ibibio. We have Aba all over Igboland.
Aba keleke
Aba Agana
Aba Omege
Aba Cha

Etc. Are they all Ibibio lands as well. What you did here is spread of falsehood. I can as well claim that Uyo is Igboland. We have streams all over Igboland called "Uyo". Does it make sense to you?

Abiriba means "Ebiri aba" which in Igbo means "If you live, you will become wealthy".
It was never Ibibio land. It was Igboland all from the very beginning as you can see from the name.

Ngwa means Ngwa Ngwa, which in English translates to Fast Fast! It's Igbo. The name came about when a group of Igbo people migrating from Imo to Abia suddenly became separated by a river. While one group was quick to cross the River before the River became impasseable, the other were busy roasting yam and by the time they were done roasting yam, they could no longer cross the River as the volume had grown.
Those who crossed the River (Imo) were called Ndi Ngwa Ngwa, meaning people who were fast, while those who were cut off by the river because they were roasting yam were called "Ndi Ohuhu ji".
In time, Ngwa Ngwa became Ngwa, while Ohuhu Ji became "Ohuhu".
This is the story of Ngwa. It has nothing to do with your Ibibio concocted stories.

Arochukwu has always been Igbo. They call themselves Okeigbo, meaning Great Igbo.
Yes, Arochukwu was established in a previously Ibibio land, but it was not straight forward. It was achieved by a Union between the Igbos, be Akpa (From Cross River) and some indigenous Ibibio people.
The Ibibio and Akpa elements were very minor and were quickly assimilated by the overwhelmingly Igbo population there.
Arochukwu means "God's spear". "Aro" means "spear" in Igbo. It has nothing to do with Ibibio.

No Igbo hate Ngwa or Arochukwu people, we are all Igbos, stop making things up.
Nsibidi belongs to Ejagham and not to Ibibios, you copied from Ejagham just like we did.

Ndiigbo who are neighbors to Ibibio borrowed some Ibibio culturally practices, such as Ekpo and Ekpe cults, it doesn't make them Ibibios, it's just what it is, they borrowed an aspect of your culture they feel is good.
Igbos close to Bini borrowed BIni cultural practices, Igbo close to Igala borrowed those of Igala.
But these were never one way traffic. Those Igbo neighbors including Ibibio also borrowed one or two things from Ndiigbo.

Other than Arochukwu, no Ibibio land is occupied by Igbos, but Efiks (Ibibio cousins) occupied and have now claimed parts of Igboland now in Odukpani LGA, and the Ibibios are still dragging parts of Ndoki land in Akirika.
Pazienza,
Tell me the story of Aro again.

What is Aro referwnce in Igboland?

I know Eri was son of Gad and is the progenitor of all Igbos.

Who is Aro?

There is so much work to be done on African history sure but you don't go around with crazy imaginative constructions. This feeling of inferiority is such a pitiful consequence of the anti African/anti Black propaganda that the world has used to justify their atrocities... Propaganda also carried and maintained through Islam and Christianity brought to our lands
Africans are the only ones who want to be anything but what they are
Not just these particular 3 or 4 guys over the Yoruba
Thousands maybe Millions of igbos will swear they are Hebrews... You have such people among the Akan, Ewe and the Bantu groups too

It's like it's a shame to have African origin
As much as it is obvious that these bands of Hebrew and Arab wannabes all over the Internet do this out of self hate and inferiority complex as Africans in contrast to the great admiration for Hebrews, Arabs and the likes from that region

The major problem here with anyone pushing this is actually their lack of scholarship, lack of expertise on both West African and Levantine civilizations
Even Children of Israel admit, historically, that Canaan was not originally their land.

Children of Kahtan as well admit that the Arabian Peninsula was already occupied by a race of people before their arrival.

So when you say we want to be Hebrews and Arabs....thats because you assume and misunderatand who Hebrews and Arabs were originally.

You claim to have scholarship but the people you call Hebrews and Arabs had recorded their own history and accepted they were conquerors on lands we now call Israel, Assyria and Arabia.

Which part of their disclaimer do you not understand?

I am not convinced that the Yorubas have a Hebrew heritage. The OP has provided no proof of this, just some mumbo jumbo about Elijah being taken away by a whirlwind and trying to link some Yoruba words with this event.

To me, the link looks tenuous and tedious. There are ancient documents that link Yorubas to ancient Canaan.

A subject such as this is most important and can't be covered by a few words on a blogosphere like this one.

I submit that it is high time our political and traditional leaders as well as academic scholars like Wole Soyinka and keepers of our ancient heritage and secrets come together and help us trace our root and our source.

Enough of all of these guess works and grandstanding. They are misleading.

That Yorubas originated from an ancient, rich and very developed source is not in doubt. You only need to check out the richness of the language, the idioms, idiosyncrasies, proverbs and general use of the language. You need to understand the Yoruba religion which some others have called Santeria, the beauty of the lores and legends, the elaborateness of the religious practices, the incredibility of the pantheons of gods in Yorubaland.

All these point to a history, obviously forgotten, that would wow us and make us understand that there was probably a time when our forefathers walked the earth majestically.

The time is ripe to harness all the intelligence we can muster as a people to trace our origins, because a people who don't know their past, will blunder and stumble on into the future.

When we know whose children we truly are then can we begin to cast off the yoke of white supremacy that beclouds out senses and makes us think we are inferior to the whites.

Then and only then can we look at ourselves and observe our living conditions in disgust and strive to become who we are meant to be.

This cannot happen if we keep misinforming ourselves and holding ourselves up to a standard that I am quite sure is way beneath us.

I remember that this was how some Moslems in Yorubaland tried to twist our history by saying that Oduduwa migrated from Mecca and the likes.

Yoruba, ji, ma sun!
You said Yoruba is not Hebrew but from Canaan.

You disagree that Yoruba is from Mecca.

Canaan is also called Kinan or Kinana.

If you uphold the theory that Yoruba is from Canaan then you probably do not know that the early Meccans were called Ibn Kinana.

I agree that Elders in various areas of specialties need to come together for a Yoruba project.

Politics › Nwabufo Counter-blast Isa Funtua by MetaPhysical(op): 10:59pm On Jan 06, 2020
I have been married for about nine years now. My experience in my nearly a decade of being grafted to another being has taught me to maintain the sacrality of my union. No interloper allowed, even at times when the tempting thing to do is to succumb to the emotion of letting in an outsider.

I have come to understand that not all those, who come to grief with you or provide you a shoulder to recline on at your time of vulnerability are really ‘’grieving with you’’. Most will exploit your low point to arrogate to themselves some importance and even offer gratuitous suggestions to nail you to the wall of guilt.

This is the sitch of the Igbo in Nigeria today. Everyone is now an adroit opinionist on what the ethnic nationality must do to ‘’get presidency’’ as if the group is one undeserving lot that has to grovel to get its due.

I must admit we have our own peculiar challenges as a people, and so do other ethnic nationalities in the country.

Really, I reckon as condescending the statement of Ismaila Isa Funtua, an associate of President Muhammadu Buhari, that the South-East must review its ways of playing politics in order to get the presidency.

He said the Igbo do not play inclusive politics and they like “do things on their own”.

According to him, “They (Igbo) should belong. They should join the party. They want to do things on their own and because they are Igbo, we should dash them the president? That was the reason I said is it turn by turn Nigeria Limited?”

He also said, “With due respect to the Igbo, they fail to understand that when the South-West chose to remain on their own as opposition, they did not go near the power. To a large extent, the North in terms of religion and culture are closer to the South-West than to the South-East. When Alex Ekwueme contested (for the PDP ticket), Chief Olusegun Obasanjo defeated him.

“I know Nigerian politics, you chose your candidate who will be able to bring votes to you to win election, not on regional basis, not on tribal basis. Is he going to be the president of the North, East, South-West, South-South or whatever? If the Igbo wants to be president, then they must belong. If you don’t belong, then you can’t be the president.”

As a matter of fact, Funtua’s statement reeks of corpulent arrogance, bigotry and acute sense of entitlement. It reinforces the stereotype that his section of the country bullies any region that does not kiss the ring of the caliphate.

If Funtua says ‘’Nigeria is not turn by turn limited’’, then is our unity still non-negotiable? Why should any group stay in the union when they are by design sequestered from taking the lead role in the marriage? You cannot hold a people in abusive nuptials, and still insist on relegating them to subjects.

I need to emphasis this, we have always pledged to Nigeria’s unity. But we have not gone beyond this perfunctory humbug to work at it. How can we assert, “Nigeria’s unity is not negotiable”; yet we constantly chip away at the umbilical cord that holds us together?

It is obvious that the ‘’leadership quarantine’’ of the South-East is deliberate. The region may never be considered good enough to hold the highest office in the land no matter how much it bends over backwards. Really, what does Funtua mean by ‘’the Igbo must belong’’. They must submit themselves as vassals? I do not get it because there are many Igbo politicians and supporters of the APC. In fact, my staunchest critics are members of the APC from the South-East.

Political balance is a sine qua non for nation building. We cannot pontificate on unity and be insensitive to issues of political equity. The fons et origo of strife in society is inequity and imbalance.

How do we build an inclusive country with deeply lacerated political imbalances? How do we foster oneness with this depressing level insensitivity to matters of national unity? Igbo presidency in 2023 is an issue too critical to ignore.

A country as enormous, diverse and delicate as Nigeria cannot evolve organically when a part of it is marooned and confined to the fringes of political exclusion. The argument has always been, “the Igbo are not ready”, and “they are not playing the right politics”. But this argument is classically insipid and hollow. In fact, it is an untenable rationalisation of the marginalisation of the Igbo.

It is now a moral burden on Nigeria that a president of Igbo extraction emerges in 2023. If we are serious about our unity, then we must take cognisance of the country’s sensitivities. Our unity becomes truly not-negotiable, when all Nigerians matter.

Politics › Isa Funtua Blast Igbo Over 2023 Presidency by MetaPhysical(op): 10:52pm On Jan 06, 2020
Ismaila Isa Funtua, an associate of President Muhammadu Buhari, says the south-east must review its ways of playing politics in order to get the presidency.

Funtua said this on Saturday when he appeared on The Morning Show, a programme on Arise Television.

The life patron of the Newspapers Proprietors Association of Nigerian (NPAN) said the Igbo do not play inclusive politics and they like “do things on their own.”

He said Moshood Abiola, presumed winner of the 1993 presidential poll, was able to defeat Bashir Tofa in Kano, his state, because “he embraced everybody.”

“They should belong. They should join the party. They want to do things on their own and because they are Igbo, we should dash them the president? That was the reason I said is it turn by turn Nigeria Limited?” Funtua said.

“You’re talking of politics, which is an issue of votes. My very good friend of blessed memory, MKO Abiola defeated Bashir Tofa in Kano. Was MKO Abiola from Kano? But he defeated Bashir in his own town Kano. Why? Because the man played politics, he embraced everybody.

“If you send him an invitation for anything, if he is not there, his representative will be there and he will play his part. You cannot sit down and say because you’re an Ibo man, there is no fairness.

“With due respect to the Igbo, they fail to understand that when the south-west chose to remain on their own as opposition, they did not go near the power. To a large extent, the north in terms of religion and culture are closer to the south-west than to the south-east. When Ekwueme contested (for the PDP ticket), Chief Olusegun Obasanjo defeated him.

“I know Nigerian politics, you chose your candidate who will be able to bring votes to you to win election, not on regional basis, not on tribal basis. Is he going to be the president of the North, East, South-west, South-south or whatever?

“If the Ibo wants to be president, then they must belong. If you don’t belong, then you can’t be the president.”

He accused the media of promoting the clamour for the Igbo presidency.

This article was not written by any Nigerian media or blogger. It's from the Associated Press and the NBC (both American news outfits). There was no interchanging anything. The fact is that it was an ethno-religious crisis. It was a religious crisis and the people clearly expressed their feelings. The words of those two men did not arise from an interchanging of anything. One of them said that, "These people are the ones causing problem all over the world". Are you saying that he was saying that northerners are the ones causing problems all over the world?

The feelings that those guys expressed are not new. You can easily find them all over Nairaland. I posted on a thread in which some people were saying that there are no Igbo muslims (even though there are) and declaring that they will not allow Islam in Igboland/Biafra. That is clearly religious and it's those same type of sentiments that the rioters expressed. There was clearly no interchanging of anything.

Now I'm certain that you were just arguing for the sake of arguing because nobody would say that it wasn't a religious riot despite all the evidence in that article and nobody would blame Nigerian media or bloggers for an article that was written by the NBC and sourced from AP.
Boss,
The fact it came from American press even made it worse. They do not understand the nuances of ethno-religious divide between the different ethnic groups in Nigeria. Their reporting is hearsay.

How many Northers can differentiate between Urhobo and Ibo, or Nupe and Yoruba?

How many Southerners know that Adamu Lawan may not necessarily be a Northern muslim....he could be a Christian and worships every Sunday at COCIN?

If we are still struggling with such thin lines....imagine the difficulty for a foreign media to get it right.

Its not uncommon for Nigerian media and bloggers to interchange north and muslim. If a report comes out today that a northerner was killed people will automatically conclude its muslim. This is a given.

Here it is, I see it and already responded.

2) A Danish magazine published cartoons about Prophet Muhammad. This led to riots in Maiduguri and Kano in 2006. Christians and southerners were killed in those riots. The news got to the south. Violence erupted in Onitsha. Youths targeted Muslims and northerners. Mosques were burnt. More people were killed in Onitsha than in any other city that experienced the riots. There was also violence in Enugu and Asaba.
In north christians were targeted. These included northern christians, midbelt christians, southwest christians, ss christians, se christians.

In Onitsha, nother muslims lived there, midbelt muslims lived there, sw muslims lived there, ss muslims livsd there and se muslims lived in Onitsha. Can you not see that only northern muslims were attacked? It is not religious but ethnic.

I repeat, we have never had a religious conflict in South....and no one should paint us with that brush.

The facts should be perfectly obvious now, except if you are arguing just for the sake of it.

There have been many of these reprisal attacks, but I deliberately chose those articles. The issue, as you pointed out, is about lessons learnt.

1) There were attacks against northerners in Lagos c2001. Corpses of people that were killed in these attacks were taken to Kano in open trucks. People in Kano saw these corpses and went crazy. There were reprisal attacks on southerners in Kano.

People complained. "WHY DID THE POLICE NOT ANTICIPATE THESE ATTACKS? WHY DID THEY ALLOW PEOPLE TO CARRY CORPSES IN OPEN TRUCKS INTO THE CITY?

2) A Danish magazine published cartoons about Prophet Muhammad. This led to riots in Maiduguri and Kano in 2006. Christians and southerners were killed in those riots. The news got to the south. Violence erupted in Onitsha. Youths targeted Muslims and northerners. Mosques were burnt. More people were killed in Onitsha than in any other city that experienced the riots. There was also violence in Enugu and Asaba.

Ngerians complained. "WHY DIDN'T THE POLICE ANTICIPATE THESE REPRISAL ATTACKS? HOW COULDN'T THEY HAVE KNOWN THAT THERE WOULD BE REPRISALS?? Dr Ona Ekhomu was brought onto several TV shows to talk about the inability of the police to be proactive, to gather intelligence, and to put its men on alert to prevent or reduce these incidents.

3) A policeman killed a bus driver in Onitsha and Onitsha people were already fed up of northerners because of Boko Haram attacks. They found out that the policeman was a northerner and they immediately began attacking northerners.

Now, you have admitted that the red alert is justified because of the threat of violence in the north, but you said that your grievance is that it should have been confined to the north.

Do you really think that the police has not learnt from previous incidents? Don't you know that this is why the red alert is national? The police has now realised that there is a danger that there could be reprisal attacks and they are preparing for that, is there anything wrong in that?

The US has just issued a travel advisory to its citizens, despite the fact that it's citizens have not been attacked. They did not wait for their citizens to be attacked first before issuing the advisory.

Similarly, most people would not have expected that there would have been reprisal attacks in Onitsha. There have been riots in the north for decades, but we haven't really had these reprisal attacks until the 2000s and the police have learnt that they should not wait until there are attacks before they take action and that these attacks can occur in any state

That's lessons learnt and there's absolutely nothing wrong with what the police have done. They've simply done their job
No, not at all...this is not a frivolous exchange, there is a political undertone to my disagreement.

Yes Northerners were killed in Sagamu....ethnic, not religious.

All the instances of attacks in South has always been ethnic, never religious.

Lets cut this short.
Naptu, there are pipelines all over the country....all way to Kaduna.

If militants in South issue threat to attack pipelines will IGP issue a nationwide alert?

He dare not...the Northerners will chew him out and quickly ask him to limit the alert to South.

We in South are not religious fanatics, wether muslim or christian, why is a potential danger taken out of context of "lessons learnt" applied to us in this nationwide alert?

Why couldnt it just be for North?

These samples cannot be counted as religious attack. South has never had a religious attack even though Muslims and Christians cohabit in communities all over South.

Secondly, nobody here has been able to show what the IGP has done wrong. The IGP has taken action to prevent violence and people are saying that he should not have taken any action, yet if there's violence tomorrow, the same people will blame the IGP.

All I see here are people that are too eager to crow that Nigeria is not important (that may be true) and the police is incompetent (that may also be true) but the fact still remains that it is the job of the police to prevent violence and to protect Nigerians. These people are not looking at the common sense fact that the IGP has taken action to protect Nigerians and there is no negative to this action. Placing Nigerian policemen on red alert will not create a problem for Nigerians, but failure to place policemen on red alert when there are intelligence reports that there will be problem is simply foolish.

We'll be the first to complain tomorrow if there is violence and it emerges that the police got intelligence reports about it and did nothing.
You are correct! I got the info after the fact. Matter of fact, I have no priviledge access to classified info. What I do is analyse the info to learn my own lesson from it.

Anytime there is public info on security alert I know US has a copy of it.....more times than not the intelligence was dispatched from them to our National Security Adviser, who then forwards to security apparatus.

US always send advisory if the intelligence is pregnant with babies. On issues like we are discussing now US will issue advisory and close its Abuja embassy....but will leave Lagos open.

Since this new face off, I am yet to see any advisory from US.

I am not one of those condemning the IGP for doing his work. I believe going by precedence and some pockets of rallies in North already chanting death to America (assuming its true) an alert is indeed required. However, i have problem withbhim stretvhing the alert to cover Nigeria as a whole.

It was not issued based on intelligence on terror, otherwise a US advisory would have gone out.

It was issued based on precedence. That precedence has known limits. IGP insulted South by including us in his alert. Boss, This is my issue with IGP. grin

Iran dey do gragra. They should go and sit down somewhere.

80million ko, 80trillion ni.

This is profanity. Anyone daring enough to get Trump head will not live a freeman to collect the bounty....if he wasnt even killed in the act. Useless people! They need to stop rhetoric, both sides need to get off twitter and enter into diplomatic lobbying to calm nerves.

Hey, who owns twitter sef? Block Trump and block Iran mouthpiece.

They are escalating the issues because they have audience. Block them both and watch how things quickly get under control.

This is one of the members of the Iranian Republican Guards that was arrested while trying to smuggle mortars, rockets and other arms into Nigeria. He and his partners were arrested in Lagos in 2010, while their accomplices were arrested in Kano and Abuja. https://www.nairaland.com/557584/irans-revolutionary-guard-charged-nigeria

Nigerian security forces were also placed on red alert in 2003 when they got intelligence reports that terrorists planned to attack US and Israeli assets in Lagos.

You don't expect the IGP to get intelligence reports that there would be violence and then he'll sit down, cross his legs, fold his arms, twiddle his thumbs and do nothing. We may not be fans of the police, but we should understand the rare occasions that they take action to protect our lives. This is absolutely what I expect from any inspector general of police. This is his job.
Boss,
Im very familiar with this case. This is around same time Kabiru Sokoto escaped jail and then he was recaptured and there was heightened tension that bokoharam would hit Abuja to break him out. Coincidentally a large cache of ammos and grenade launchers were found in a Lebanese home in Abuja.

I remember well. The guy is not Revolutionary Guard member but Hezbollah member who was trained in a IRG camp in Lebanon.

There is more to the story, space is not enough here to tell it.

Anyway, Isreali contractors were providing intelligence and reconnaisance for Jonathan.

They twisted the story to say IRG was in Nigeria.

Hezbollah had field agents in Mali, in Libya, in Egypt, Somalia, Kenya. They enter into hot zones and capitalize on terror. Why? They fund their operations back home through mercenary or terrorism franchise in places with large musljm population. They use religion to camouflage their intent.

I wrote somewhere on a thread today that terrorism has morphed from war of religion to a war of profit gain...capitalism!

Hezbollah brought ISWAP in to join bokoharam.

Also, before this guy was caught or bwfore the Abuja ammo was discovered they had shipped in many deliveries that got to deatination siluccessfully. If their intent was US or Israel they had plenty opportunity to cause damage ahead of the arrest.

If our intelligence was good and reliable Israelis should not have been a consultant for our national intelligence programme....nor should the word of a foreign consultant find its way into our national policy.

I believe IGP has work to do. This one is unjustified.

Trust me, if he had any intelligence of a attack on US asset in Nigeria it would follow behind an advisory at the US Consulate advising its citizens of danger.

So far i have not seen any advisory from US in Nigeria.

I see many Nigerians on twitter crying more than the bereaved. Someone said America and Israel muat go to war. Wetin concern Israel for this matter?

Israel has its own issues, abeg make una no drag them enter this thing and cause unecessary wahala for them.

Then another one said the guy Soleiman is sponsor of terror and deserve to die.

If we are to kill off all death-deserving terrorists in the world many people will be surprised at how many of them would turn out to be American citizens.

Lets leave emotions out. People looking for America visa, please speak objectively and preserve truth.

No one needs a war! Trump fvckd up by taking out a high asset that CIA and two previous US Presidents had preserved.

US will never deny that Iran is a strategic nation in MidEast. The oldest civilization and Empire in that region. Look on map and see how many countries border with Iran.

Even though a cold relations exist between the two US continue to work behind the scene to pull Iran closer and break hostilities so they can recover formal diplomatic exchanges.

The guy Trump just killed was instrumental in restoring negotiable peace to Iraq. He was instrumental in helping US oust Taliban in Afghanistan.

Imagine the gains if they could persuade him to warm the Iranian Imams up for an open window of negotiation and exchanges between US and Iran. That would be very significant. This was the wisdom why CIA and Bush and Obama tolerated him. He had been marked for elimination a long time ago. CIA blocked that.

Now, Britain, France and Germany are furious at Trump. He did not tell those he will later call upon in time of need for an allied action that he was getting ready to push the button on Solimani.

Trump himself does not believe he could get Congress backing for a war with Iran. It will never happen! Hence he abdicated his constitutional mandate to approach congress for authorization by releasing a notification on social media. What an insult!

Is twitter the American Congress? He added that he did not need authorization to go to war. I wonder where he hopes to get the funding.

Trump has a leadership challenge.

My people, dont follow Trump blindly. In fact as we speak Im reading news, his people are already protesting and calling for no war.

While American citizens dont want war, Nigerians should not be on record as war mongers for Trump.

We already have multiple domestic terrorism that we cant defeat, 10yrs running. Dont escalate our terrorism situation abeg! Read and add voice for deescalation.
