Pick whichever one you want...

The name Hadad.

Hadad, or Adad, is also the name of a prime Semitic deity, probably the same as Baal and Rimmon, whose name was often part of compound names applied to human individuals (as was customary in that time and region). It may be that the individuals mentioned above simply had the same name as this deity, or perhaps (as HAW Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament suggests), their real names were compounds, but they went by the abbreviated version. It's also entirely plausible that Hadad isn't really a name at all, but rather a royal title, much like Pharaoh in Egypt, Caesar in Rome or Abimelech in Palestine.
For a meaning of the name Hadad I, NOBSE Study Bible Name List observes no difference between the two Hadads and reads Fierceness for both of them. It's not clear whether NOBSE derives our name from חדה and gives it a rather liberal interpretive swing, or from a root in a different language. Alfred Jones (Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names), in a rare display of obscurity, doesn't discuss possible roots, but declares that in the Assyrian language our name signified "one". Hence Jones proposes Chief, Most Eminent, Most High for a meaning of the name Hadad.

To a Hebrew audience, however, the name Hadad would have meant Thunder or Shout, and since Hadad was the region's storm god, vey few would have ventured away from that interpretation.

Oyegun should be sacked for this statement. Is this a party Chairman? He has tacitly admitted his party failed and need to be replaced.

I think he is vehemently against the Tinubu camp becoming successors of power. With this statement, Oyegun has offered himself as an accessory to APC failure.

absoluteSuccess:
My bro, the adage of our fathers says baaba gbagbe oro ana, aoni reni ba sere. Herbert Macauley shows that Yoruba are not outright tribalists, they can give you anything you deserve until you betray them: the danger is, they may not get back all they have given.

The Yoruba were ancient hebrews, they were migrants from Iseri (ancient Israel). Both Ake and the Awori still alludes to their link to Iseri, they were Canaanites, having come from the promiseland. Clapperton won't make Yoruba appear as Hebrew, it is dangerous. So, Coptic Christian identity can take care of Christian parallels in Yorubs tradition.

The Oduduwa story is a key to unlocking this connection. Isaiah was referring to this migrant Hebrews in chapter 18, talking about what has become modern day Nigeria. This ancient hebrew were the first settlers in and around Nigeria so to speak.

Although Yorubaland was were the leaders of the migrants finally end their journey, but her neighbours too have a formidable tradition that overlap with the Yoruba and still trace back to traditions you can only find in the holy bible. No doubt Yoruba has come from Ur (Orun) to Canaanland, to Egypt and finally Yorubaland.

The Yoruba for origin is nigba iwashe: meaning, the era of coming to establish. Some precept in Ifa gives us what Yoruba ancestors believed about hereafter, owonrinsogbe relates: kamafi kanjukanju lole aye, kamaf warawara jakun ida, oun taafi sagba, kamafi sebinu, orunmila ni taaba debi to tutu ka sinmi sinmi, kawowaju ejo titi titi; kaweyin oro sun~un, nitori ojo atisun eni.

Ojo atisun is another example of what Yoruba have in common with christianity. It means'tte day of recompense' or the day of sleep. So the wicked is admonished 'osika ranti ojo atisun re o'. Ojo atisun is what Christians called 'the last day'. The little variant is because Christians think from english to Yoruba, while Yoruba think from the ancients.

English language cannot fully codify every hebrew thought it has needs for as a result of different historical experience, but they will impose a closest translation. They have gods, and we have orisa, which does not translate to god, but chosen. This translation imposed god on the chosen. This deny us an element of history.

Did the English taught us about ojo atisun? Which other culture look to a time when the wicked will be rewarded on judgement day? It took Muhammed to infuse that in Arabian consciousness via Islam, and Zoroaster via his dream. But it is a common knowledge to Isaiah and christ and Lazarus sister. That's the difference.

We have a godly heritage. Hence we say eke sise o pe ama lowo lowo, ile dida o pe a mala, ojo atisun lebo. The ancient Yoruba looked to the judgement day. This is part of our heritage long before the advent of the universal religion. It is in our traditional believe that there is a judgement day after death.

I used to wonder when some self-acclaimed historians here argued that its all co-incidence to share some element with the middle east: the same set of people that can hardly decrypt a single Yoruba semantic forming authority via biological precepts and good english grammar and tonnes of suspicion.
This is what I subscribe. May God bless you profoundly. This is the truth!

Open to anyone with information to share input on the three Orisas imported to Lagos from Ijesha/Ijebu people, they are Malaki, Ejilu and Adimu.

I seriously believe Malaki and Ejilu are the persons of Malachi and Elijah from the Bible. If so, how did they become Orisas in the midst of Yorubas?

O ku ijo meta o! wink

I saw your post about Oduduwa as a woman and Im responding to share what I feel may have happened. I could be wrong.

Air, for instance, is a profiting element when in its calm state. It can mix with water and produce turbulent storm, it can mix with fire and generate devastating inferno. For purpose of veneration if we take air in its calm state as a female attribute and the same air in its destructive state as male agent, then it serves a better end when we know the sacrifice or offering to give when we pay respect to its force and energy. I think this may be the genesis of Oduduwa being venerated as a female.

amor4ce,
Oduduwa, Ooni, Olofin...these are titles it appears. Yoruba have a complex but nicely woven nomenclature structure with prefix or suffix name -

IFA
Ifa-dare
Ifa-yemi
Ifa-shola
Ifa-lomo

AWO
Awo-lowo
Awo-yemi
Awo-tunde

OGUN
Ogun-bambi
Ogun-sanmi
Ogun-lana

ODE
Ode-lola
Ode-wale
Ode-yemi

We know what Ifa is, and we know what Awo, Ogun and Ode is. We can format any concept into a name using one of the prefixes; same for suffixes.

We have similar structure in time/space also - mostly associated with placenames to serve as landmark on the landscape or timeline in history...

Ijesha-tedo
Sango-tedo
Egba-tedo
Epe-tedo

We can coin any subethnic with its own -tedo because we are knowledgable in TEDO as beginning of a new exploration.

Oyo-tedo (the relocation from Oyo Ile southward)
Eko-tedo (the relocation of Lagos Royalty in exile to Epe and formation of a new dynasty there)
Owu-tedo (the relocation of Owu southward for self-preservation)
Ife-tedo (the duplication of Olofin title and a spiritual relocation of a priest of Ife to the coast to become a new sub ethnic - Awori)

Taking this into account, we can recognise Olofin, Alafin, Odofin, as a suffix structure in which FIN becomes the principal. What is FIN? If we find FIN, then we can explain the many -fin occurrences.

In every Yoruba settlement a Priest precedes the founding. The migrants advance as a party, but it is the Priest that goes forth to consecrate the land with ritual cleansing. Only after that is the King designate brought forward for coronation to the stool.

The Priest rules over the ethereal forces of the land; the King rules over the material beings of the land, a partnership! Their titles are distinct as well because of their divine role. So if we have a Priest-King in one person, then what title do we give to him?

Even there is an intelligent info; that reveal that igbo Secret Agenda is to cut North from Nigeria first, then when North go, and they have biafra, they will attack Lagos with their presence in the city, and join it to biafra country
Afenifere, OPC, Agbekoya and one other Yoruba group that I will prefer not to mention because of the nature of their work, met few months ago with representatives selected from each Yoruba State House of Assembly, Traditional stools and as well a Yoruba think tank in the diaspora. It was a week and half long meeting. It was a paperless meeting, meaning no presentation handouts and no closing speech. This meeting took place even before Buhari got sick in January. Yoruba has a switch, if we throw it on thats the end of Nigeria. Before our coastal waters became a major trade route, the Northern trade route sustained our ancestors. We are therefore never going to shut it off or allow its shut off by anybody. As far as Ibo's plot, Yorubas do not need to lift a finger in a demolition march against Biafra.

I guess the wise and foolish igbo or ibo man and even south south can be mistaken for igbos therefore everyone should take this treat seriously, and make adequate plan to leave the north or properly prepare to defend himself unto death whenever and wherever the occasion arise (market office on the road and even in his room. be ready to take at least an attacker with you to haven and meet God to settle it there. Be brave! Because death comes but once and no one or group has a monopoly of violence, weapon knows so one.

Go through the history and see that most of the northerners and even the South-Westerners do not really know what they want.
because the igbos have gone and done further than any ethnic group or ethnic nationality in Nigeria to cement brotherhood, they build best houses and business whenever they found themselves (from buying ocean and sand filling to build grand home in Lagos to leveling of sand dome in kano) they bring about social development in the same strike too. if in doubt check out the old Orile iganum and the current one, same with Okota Ijesha, Maza-maza and Amuwo Odofin and Festac extension in Lagos, I don't want to mention Lekki axis we all know what the Ibos (Igbos developers if you like) did. then compare same with Mushin, Isale eko, Oko oba Agege to sango axis and even Ikorodu just read evening news and you can draw conclusion on the areas listed above with most backward uncivilized happening news

e.g man killed and eyes plugged for rituals, Area boys raid street or shops, woman raped at night, and man 50years defile 7 year old girl lured with Agege bread. all forms of odd unbelievable retrogressive news

and where do you read news like New 3 star hotel build by?(Okoro) Man gift his girlfriend a new car, grand opening of Uche Plazza etc?

Ndi-Igbo have always been regarded as second class citizens in deed, indirectly and directly! just like the Black Americans in the USA
it's Systematic maybe unofficial and unwritten but it has been an accepted and practiced code-red since the end of the Nigerian-Biafra Civil War of 1969. the hatred is palpable as soon as you say your names and it sound IBO their face countenance change to 6:30 o'clock(AM or PM) sleepy. they are in a hurry to dismiss you or frustrate you, but WHY? Igbos are bad yet they pay the highest house rental shop or house, they pay higher transportation to and fro to Ibo dominated areas, like Masha, Lawason etc. TEJUOSHO AND OYINBO markets are at lost to Lagos Government because the NDI-IGBO are unwilling to buy. go to markets at ALABA, TRADE FAIR, WARE HOUSE TINCAN APAPA, LADIPO MARKET.
compare with market dominated by Hausas and Yorubas like Mushin, Oyinbo, Alaba rago ojo, suru alaba ojo, Boundary ajegunle, Ijora Badia, Pen cinema Agege, Ikorodu, Ojota mile12, Itire Bariga, so unclean unkempt and disorganized, they cook and sleep in some of the markets

prove me wrong and list out Federal Government presence(built assets) in all the regions and compare same with the South-East region or states
in the same manner other Ethnic nationalities in Nigeria should also list there businesses and properties in the Igbo nation (the South-East Governors would have and should used this major neglect by Federal as their joint barging chips irrespective of their party affiliations) they should also form consortium and develop Roads and toll them for the development of their states(joint water broad, joint industrial layouts at their interstate bounders will make sense that each state going solo with huge project and fail to complete them. they can build interstate dual carriage ways to link themselves and open up the South-East, Tourist and youth recreational centers and produce Stars. let it be know that the Federal Government plan is to under develop the South-East. Am not pro Biafra but hey they are right because they feel neglected.

If the Federal Government will be wise and develop each region Nigeria will be great no region that is lacking in resources and human capital,
if they can't am begging them to consider outsourcing (to import) governance to Indians, Chinese and Germans consortium and see what will happen in just 5 years.
They will clearly and accurately map out our resources make projection and balance our books and business will take shape, the Generals and cabal will still have their percentage coming if not even flowing to them with much ease and Nigeria will remain stable too (win-win for all)

The Ndi-Igbos should use this opportunity well and put their foot down, for a clear cut referendum, restructuring and possible constitutional backing or accommodation of protection and compensations of life and properties from warring youths of the north and south west.

Anytime the youths of the North and South-West wants to loot and rape they go for Ndi-Igbos and in the end no one is jailed and no guarantee it won't happen again or a compensation to Propitiate and as a palliative measures for the lost of life and properties on the side of the targeted victims (be it Ndi-Igbos, Christians or any non indigenes may suffer from Indigenous groups or State official fiat with bad socioeconomically but political motivated and unwarranted affliction)

to this I call the Good people of The North, the South-West and Igbos and all the Good and God fearing Minds to press it on the Government and especially our bicameral Legislators to as a matter of urgency enact laws that will make it mandatory, for victims to receive compensations and unhindered access to health and basic needs to ameliorate the pains of ethnic brutality visited on non indeigenes, if possible their should be a clear formula to make every government organ fill the impact so that they will be on the watch to prevent further and future accordance,

e.g Federal government will own 40%
State Government will pay 30%
and Local Government will pay 20%
and political office holders will make 10%

this way the all will see the sense in keeping the peace and prosecuting the parties involve to the full extent of the law

Same for resource control, the people should own a giving percent in the resources of their state or local governments and pay tax.

if Mr. A and Mr. X are from Lagos mainland local government and buy to own a share of 1% in any company or resources located in their Local Government Area (LGA) They will be willing to expose any act of sabotage or vandalism that may want to befall the company or the illegal mining of the resource because they have direct and indirect interest in the affairs of the companies or resources in that their local government, and may suffer direct lost if any bad operation befall the normal operations of the companies and resources.

so if you own a share from the resources or big company in your local government that gives you about 10k monthly or even yearly, will you want to loose it to bad guys in your community that wants to spoil show? oh No you will give info that will give them out to the police.

In fact, they will blow the whistle so loud that the police have no choice but to arrest the bad guys and will not even think of taking bribe

Politics › Northern Youths Meet Again To React To El-Rufai Over The Sack Of Igbos by MetaPhysical(op): 8:28pm On Jun 07, 2017
A defiant coalition of some youth from the northern part of the country on Wednesday afternoon convened another meeting to respond to Governor Nasir El-Rufai for condemning their attempt to kick out Nigerians of Igbo origin resident in Northern Nigeria.

The meeting, which was underway in Kaduna at the time of this report, is aimed at responding to Mr. El-Rufai for ordering the arrest and prosecution of members of the fringe group, PREMIUM TIMES learnt.

Abdulaziz Suleiman, a coordinator of the group, said Mr. El-Rufai’s move to block his group from forcing a mass exodus of Igbo from northern states was “disappointing.”

“We are currently meeting to decide on how best to react,” Mr. Suleiman told PREMIUM TIMES Wednesday afternoon.
“Personally, I am disappointed with some of our leaders. These types of threats were issued against the Fulani recently and no governor from the South came out to condemn it,” Mr. Suleiman added.

His group, Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, caused a nationwide anxiety on Wednesdayafter it held a press conference in Kaduna Tuesday afternoon to give Igbo a 12-week deadline upon which they must vacate Northern Nigeria and return to East, the part of Nigeria with a predominantly Igbo population.

The group held the media briefing at the headquarters of Arewa Consultative Forum, a political and cultural association of Northern Nigeria leaders.

Mr. El-Rufai said the misguided elements failed to realise that every Nigerian has a right to live in any part of the country.

Walid Jibrin, a Peoples Democratic Party chieftain, joined Mr. El-Rufai in condemning Mr. Suleiman’s group, saying in a statement to PREMIUM TIMES Wednesday that the Igbo should not be disturbed.

“The Igbo are very broad-minded people who have helped to develop the economy of the North.
“There is no village, ward or town where you will not find an Igbo race living peacefully with the people.

“Igbo and the South-South people have always remained the allies of the North since independence. Any action that will lead Nigeria to a civil war should never be entertained especially now that Nigeria needs unity from everyone,” Mr. Jibrin, the chairman of the opposition PDP Board of Trustees, said.

Lagos has become a grandiose cash cow, so much so that it can skip allocation from Federal Government for an entire year and its government will not shut down as a result. Yoruba people run governments in very similar process and heirarchy in the customary urban administration. There is a chain of command! Unlike other regions, LG Chairmen in Yorubaland are powerful. This is why competition for various offices at the municipal level is very hot and deadly. A leader of NURTW, Hamburger, was recently killed in fights that broke out over LG elections in Lagos. Yorubas did not make noise about his death...he died in line of duty!

I hope Ohanaeze fullly understand the risks involved when they call Ibos out to vote. They are giving it ethnic coloration! If fight breaks out, as is the norm with LG elections and voting, and if Ibos are fell, will Ohanaeze please do us all a favor and not paint it as hatred against ndigbo. It must be seen as part of civic duty to community, nothing more!

Super1Star:
As usual some Igbo kids are dancing because of some stupid statements of a lunatic Northern jingoists, that is merely playing on their emotions.

The question the reporter should have asked him is Why is he against restructuring?

the sole reason o prevent disintegration of the country is because they do not have access to the sea. Funny. Does Ethiopia and Switzerland have access to the sea?

They need the South for technical know-how!!!! How daft can this man be. Southerners are going to school and they are busy building mosques, marrying girls at tender age and promoting poverty in their region and he is not even ashamed to state it they need the south for skillful manpower, after 50years of independence and several years of leading the countryhuhhuh

See the way he tactically avoided dissecting the North but rather used words to dissect South into different regions.

Why is it that the Fulanis are the only ones ruling the North politically and monarchically, whereas they use Hausas and other tribes in the North for population advantage?

Please why did he avoid calling their killing vampire machine herdsmen trouble makers which have been sowing sorrow tears N blood wherever they step?

Yes, he called the Yorubas trouble makers because he realise we are the only one that has what can be used to locked them down. We demystified their Northern Oligarchy and dismantled it for them with pen and paper, we locked down the country with pen and paper we sent the military packing with pen and paper. They have our fear in their hearts and we do not care.
Well spoken!

As u all can deduce from this man's word, both the igbos and yorubas are trouble makers and the Niger deltans as well yet he didn't mention his own north and Fulani vampires as troublesome people.

Clearly, he was trying to demonize others and create sense of dissatisfaction in the south. This is why the North will continue to dominate the south cos the game of divide and rule has been perfected and unleashed by these people anytime the south discusses an issue in one direction.

He carefully noted that agitation for Biafra, resource control by Niger delta and restructuring by Yoruba equals same thing. He decided to accuse the south of causing trouble here and there.

My take is, can we ever learn from the past and see who the real enemy is? Southerners think think and think. You guys are docile and preoccupied with in-house fighting.
There is no trouble greater in the land today than fulani herdsmen killing at random. Not a single Northern elder or leader has spoken out against it but they are worried about market for Igbo products and unemployment for Yoruba. Anytime a Northern elder speak ill of any Southern ethnic group our response should be to demand their voice on fulani herdsmen.

Honestly, Igbos are fairly close to realizing Biafra. Its all in the spirit and everyone can feel it. The straw that broke the camel's back is the vote in House shutting down second reading on South East Development Commission. Just a floor debate on the bill, nothing more.....and they slammed it down, but yet want to pass grazing bill. What a wickedness! If that's not cruel, I dont know what else to call it. People will provoke you into rising up so they can justify a need to crush you, be perceptive and avoid the impusle. Just remember where you are headed....to mission accomplished!

Our psyche embraces foreign language and religion and as well mode of dressing without second thought but we struggle hard to accept the individuality and independence of feminity or the expression of its form in society. Any society that desires grace and beauty must also embrace feminine energies and creativity. Dance as an expresiion of graceful form and harmony must be encouraged and endowed for the diverse society, it is as aesthetically beautiful to the eyes as music melody is to the ears. Yorubas in particular must champion the acceptance of professional dancers in our emerging society. Traditionally Yoruba had professional dancers that performed and toured with band troupes through our urban centers. Times have changed, habits have changed, perception has grown, Kaffayt is the new age professional dancer, in same category as Davido or Wale who are known as career musicians....they are all entertainers and artistes and deserve our respect.

This thread is new, not even half a page yet and Ibos are already racing off Yakasai's comment to spew hatred. For once, listen to what the man said in this interview, you are behaving in exact pattern the interview was scripted to influence your emotions. Is he god? What makes you believe that these things he said about Yoruba and Akwa Ibom and Cross River people against you are true? Why is he not talking about the various ways in which North has betrayed Ibo or as Sultan of Sokoto recently admitted, "they killed Ibo in North necause they invaded their communities and set up trades and became affluent".

Do not surrender your emotions to his words, stay strong and wave him off. This article does nothing to subtract or add to your struggle, Yakassai cannot move biafra forward or ret.ard your progress. So why respond with hatred to those who you truly need to aid your mission.

This time around make it mission accomplished, not mission impossible!

Mustapha has lost before the race has even began! So is Kwankwaso.

Kwankwaso has a habit of visiting Southern states and talking down on people. Under this guy's presidency fulani herdsmen will actually be rewarded by federal government for each infidel village they raid, whether in North, Middle Belt or South.

Lamido is the only guy with humility in him. Id like to see records of how he treated non-Hausa and non-muslims in his state. Was he compassionate and tolerant of diversity or was he like Kwankwaso?
