SuperS1Panther:Hausa was never indigenous to Lokoja. Hausas were refugees in Lokoja. The deposed Sarkis and Barons in Hausaland were driven South to the river basins by their Fulani conquerors. When British came to colonize they met resistance with the Fulani Emirs. They in turn were deposed and driven South to a refuge area in the basin and under the watchful eyes of the colonial administrators. Lokoja was a tributary of Old Oyo. Old Oyo fell much after the first wave of deposed rulers sent Southward. So Hausa were guests and subjects under Yoruba dominion in Lokoja. By the time of the British establishment, Old Oyo had fell to Fulani. Our hold on Lokoja were not as resolute as before. After the second deposition and Fulani Emirs joined their Hausa kins in Lokoja Islam grew and overtook the city further cutting back Yoruba hold. During successive military rule North consolidated their hold on Lokoja and brought in new settlements to dilute the Yoruba enclaves. We lost three important cities to the political North, Ilorin, Katunga and Lokoja. Ilorin and Katunga through war, Lokoja through our own self doing. Till today, the Yoruba ruler, Olu of Oworo is independent and does not pay homage to the Hausa ruler in Lokoja. We are very prodigal and careless politically. Omoluabi has dwindled away our fortunes. If I may add, river basins are naturally blessed for agriculture and commerce. Lokoja is a prime location, even moreso than Ilorin...but we failed to see the worth. If we are not careful, in another 50 to 100 yrs we will be completely irrelevant in Lokoja culture and politics. |

CaptainGOOD:If the enormity of destruction you have brought on our land were put on measure and an equity is needed to balance the scale, we have earned every right on earth to massacre Ibos in Yorubaland and get that equal measure. We hate crime and criminals, whether of Yoruba or Ibo stock. You will not preserve your criminals on our land. We will not allow it. We will kill an Ibo criminal. If it bothers you, I will revisit what was pointed to your leaders in Kaduna Declaration.....why wait for the situation to get out of hand to complain, where is your voice of wisdom to teach charity at home? |
Eastfield1:I understand. My input is based on ongoing shifts in allegiance following Kaaduna Declaration. Those who cheered and celebrated the imprisoned Kanu and saw in him a salvation for Ibo children are all of a sudden abandoning the dream and renewing oaths of allegiance to Kanu's opposition. The Northerner has an unwilling soldier of opportunity (fortune) and they came out other day and addressed the nation, they called themselves Northern Igbos |
TundeHashim:The problem with Ilorin politics is tied to culture. In West we are Yoruba FIRST, other titles and identities follow behind and underneath. In Ilorin you are Muslims FIRST, other things follow behind. This is why you have not been able, independently, to change orientation from the turban to a Crown, and also why for over three decades Saraki has dominated your destiny. Belgore is challenging that and hopefully more people will rise to displace Saraki. Ilorin need a new orientation in cultural politics. |
Kathmandu:givbitcoin is a Northern Ibo protecting his investment, by fire by force |
SuperS1Panther:Lokoja is a Yoruba town...dont leave it behind. |
Abagworo:His agenda is at cross-purpose and a risk to the commercial interest of crossregional-centric Ibos. Im afraid one of them might silence him, rather than have him locked up where he will continue, remotely, to fan heated agitation for Biafra and become a legend. ![]() |
OBAGADAFFI:Saraki is indeed Yoruba, his intimacy lean more to the North. This political leaning does not make him a less Yorubaman. Sanusi is a Fulani, his political intimacy leans more to West. Sanusi cannot say it out loud but he nurses a desire to reincarnate as a Yorubaman. He is about 56yrs old, more than half of that life is spent in Yoruba cities, he speaks fluent Yoruba. You probably also saw Northern youths telling Dangote that he is traitor. This is because his allegiance has always been to Lagos. Sanusi and Dangote are no less Fulani because they have a political safetynet in Yorubaland. Culture is interwoven in Politics and you must understand the intricacies and how to manage it without confusing one with the other. You might be shocked at this revelation, Oba of Lagos was like a son to Ado Bayero. Ado himself weighed in in the conrtroversial selection of Akiolu. Same with Sanusi. Alaafin put his weight behind Sanusi's emergence. |
OBAGADAFFI:Is there anything you say here that is not already known? ![]() |
obayaya:They care very much. They do not see Saraki in their 'right to rule' mantra. They have said repeatedly that they do not want the country divided. Saraki is power hungry and can be manipulated to go against that desire. |
At whatever cost, Saraki's rise to Acting President position will be shut down because it leaves the Senate President position open for Ekweramadu, PDP, to take control of Senate. APC will not allow PDP to get that far. Yoruba will not allow Osinbajo to be displaced, whether Saraki is Yoruba or Hausa or Fulani or Ibo is inconsequential North will not allow Ekweremadu, an Ibo to lead Senate with the ongoing contentions of restructuring, secession Anyway you cut it, Saraki will not get there. I noticed he was in the lineup of the . pall bearaers for Maitama Sule's casket. Its symbolic,...Saraki is recommiting Ilorin's allegiance to North. He would not do that if Maitama was from West. People like Saraki is what North count on to hold political majority but then they always have a ceiling. Saraki is at the ceiling. |
Vicfuntop, In case you don't understand Yoruba my comment to TimeMod in Yoruba is to appease his patience. Please I beg in same spirit to let it go. No need for all these projectiles back and forth. Thanks. |
TimeMod1:Bro, Se bi Okunrin! Omoluabi o gbodo fi gbogbo enu soro ju, wa ni iko mora. Oju afefe la wa, ka bo ra l'asiri. Dakun Ogbeni. |
hammer6:I pity you guys. The star of David is a modern creation, not an ancient insignia. You are making mockery of your history and legitimacy. These statements will be on the internet forever you know. un-erasable! |
BabaRamota1980:I think you may be upto something here. This assertion on Ad being Ado should not be dismissed. Without going into elaborate length here, below, are a few similar name pairs or cognates that are not accidental or coincidences but factual link. mandarin:Sometimes I wonder if the chroniclers of the Bible and those who translated the heiroglyphics and cuneiforms records of ancient Assyrian, Mesopotamian, Babylonian, Egyptian, Canaan, Accadian civilizations, got the pronounciation wrong; and if indeed the Yoruba spelling and pronounciation is the true original for the named places, regions and individuals as well as their titles recorded into Biblical accounts and history. For instance, in the treaty of Lagos of 1864, Ashogbon, the head of the Idejo Chiefs, was recorded as Acheampong. Before invasion into Lagos the British sailors had sojourned in Slave Coast (Ghana) and were familiar with a Chief of the Akan named Acheampong. They approximated Ashogbon's name to what was pre-existing in their lexicon of African names. Unlike Acheampong which is a name, Ashogbon is a title. Dosunmu was written as Docemo. Ijebu was written as Jeboo and Oyo as Eyeo. We need an assignment, to appoint taskmasters to comb through the Bible and find similars for Yoruba sounding words and list those. Then we need anthropologists, Yoruba language experts, historians, linguists and polyglots that will inspect the name list and decode them and use the criterias of (a) intelligibility; (b) comprehensibility and (c) interpretability, to find positive match or exclude . Here are some: Arkite - Ekiti Amorite - Awori Idumea - Idu Nineveh - Ile Ife Moses - Moshe Jesus - Esu Orisen - Orisa Aaron - Aare Magog, Gog and Og - Magongo and Ogori Edomite - Edo Sargon - Sango Ark - Aroko Ephod - Ifa Odu Hudud/Hadad - Oduduwa Nimrod - Lamurudu Aramean - Oramiyan Ad - Ado Lot - Ota Elijah - Ejilu Malachi - Malaki Adam - Adimula Eber - Egba Eleazer - Lisha Keturah - Ketu Tyre - Itire Jebusite - Ijebu Girgashite - Ajashe The following is copied from another contributor here.... https://www.nairaland.com/529907/resurgence-life-yoruba-footprint-history/2#7068269 In addition, there are thousands of cross-matched terms in both Old Hebrew and Yoruba languages. Elohiym - (Heb - god) = Oluaye (Yob - god/goddess) Elyown - (Heb - Supreme Being) = Olorun (Yob - Supreme Being) Elowah/Eloahh - (Heb-GOD/deity) = Oluwa (Yob- GOD) Eldaah - (Heb- God of knowledge/origin) = Eleda (Yob- God of creation) Kabbiyr - (Heb- mighty of power) = Kabiyesi (Yob - mighty lord or mighty king) Esher - (Heb - blessings/happiness) = Eshe (Yob - thanks/gratitude) Bara - (Heb - create/begin) = Bere (Yob- start/begin) Ba'al - (Heb - Chancellor/Mayor) = Baale (Yob - Mayor of a town or city) Baal - (Heb- Husband) = Bale ile - (Yob- Husband/Male head of household) Owrah - (Heb - Luminous/prosperity) = Ora (Yob - Fat/Blubber) Owr - (Heb - Light/luminary) = Orun (Yob - Sun) Addereth - (Heb- Garment or robe of beauty) = Adire (Yob- Indigo garment) Ayin - (Heb - Eye) = Eyin oju (Yob - Eye) . . . . .This is also the 16th character in the semitic alpha and in ancient mystic order corresponds secret or that which should be in the custody of high priests. This is why the 'eye" is often found in mystic symbols, it denotes the 16th power. This may explain the 16 Odus of Ifa corpus. Eyphah - (Heb - Mysterious cover or secret code) = Ifa (Yob - Oracle of divination) Atsah/Atseh - (Heb - To close/fasten or make firm) = Ashe (Yob - Closing to prayer/command) Am - (Heb- Tribe/flock) = Omo (Yob - Child or belonging to) Re elayah - (Heb - Punishment/Fear) = Eleya (Yob- Disgrace/punishment) Dowdow - (Heb - Love/loving) = Ododo (Yob - Rose petal) Duwd - (Heb - Pot for cooking/Cauldron/Kettle) = Dudu (Yob - Black/Dark) Amar - (Heb - Talk/tell) = Oro (Yob - Speak/talk) Imrah (Heb - Inner utterance/wisdom) = Imoran (Yob - Intuition/wisdom) Ga'ah - (Heb - Height/rise) = Ga (Yob - Height/tall) Geber/Gabar - (Heb - Valiant/strong) = Agbara (Yob - Strength) Hader/Heder - (Heb - Adorn/honor/esteem) = Idera (Yob - Honor/success/victory) Ilm - (Heb - Knowledge) = Imo (Knowledge/understanding) Then there are root words (tri-literal and quadri-literal) like the three following: MRM - (semitic - Maryam) = MRM (yoruba - Moremi) BLQS SHB - (semitic - Bilqis of Sheba) = BLKS SGB (yoruba - Bilikisu Sugbo) MLK - (semitic - Malik - King or Ruler) = MLK (yoruba - Miliki - Opulence, enjoyment or prosperity) |
She is wearing a coronet, a non-sacred crown. The coronet is what is placed on heads of Erelus or Princesses on the throne in the interim of settling on a successor to a deceased Oba. A king may also place the coronet on head of a heir-prince for blessings, as was the case when Oba Akinsemoyin sat his crown on head of little Ologun Kutere and signalled beginning of a new dynasty. Yoruba traditional crowns (sacred) are of two, or perharps more, but I am conversant with two and the perched birds are common to both. 1 - beaded 2 - non beaded. Beside these two there are special crowns, worn only for certain rituals, for instance the Aare Crown. |
I sincerely think and hold the belief that the structure proposed in this document holds the solution to survival of Nigeria. If we could at least go back to this setup, and then from there move forward with other state-like ambitions at the different level. We need to push the reset button and start from this point. |

The umbrella body of all the groups agitating for the actualization of the sovereign state of Biafra, known as Biafra People National Council, BPNC, has described the quit notice issued on the Igbos by the coalition of Arewa youths as a divine intervention. The group also called on Igbo people living in the northern region not to have confidence on the promises by Northern politicians and the federal government to protect them, urging them to take the threat seriously and start running down to Biafran land. BPNC also begged owners of transport companies in Igbo land to reduce all fairs by 50 per cent in order to make it affordable for their people. This was part of a communiqué signed by Comrade Uchenna Madu for MASSOB, Comrade Felix Obiora for Eastern Peoples Congress, EPC, Rev Dr Stanley Ajah for Biafra Revolutionary Organization, BRO, Comrade Ositachukwu Agbanarilam for Salvation People of Biafra, SP-Biafra, Comrade Prince Onyema for Joint Revolutionary Council, JRC, Comrade Austin Mary Ndukwu for Biafra Liberation Council, BLC, and Comrade Austin Ugwuoke for BULCO. In the communiqué made available to DAILYPOST, after the group’s meeting in Enugu, BPNC highlighted the following resolutions: “(1) That BPNC welcomed the quit notice order given to the people of Biafra by Arewa people. We view the quit notice order as divine intervention on speedy actualization and restoration of Biafra Republic. “(2) That BPNC advised the people of Biafra to take the quit notice order serious as three weeks. Also BPNC has put the necessary humanitarian arrangements to assist on the welcoming back home all Biafrans returning home to Biafra land. “(3) That BPNC urge all the Igbo owned transport companies to reduce all the transport fares to 50% to enable our people to return easily. “(4) That BPNC condemned the political romance of some disgruntled self acclaimed Igbo leaders with Arewa people as such people are on their own. They don’t represent Ndigbo. “(5) That BPNC opposes any form of restructuring or confederation in Nigeria. Our only demand is Biafra independence from Nigeria. “(6) That BPNC salute the consistency, uprightness and steadfastness of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in Biafra actualization and restoration struggle. “(7) That BPNC condemn the bias raid and confiscation of SUN Newspaper publishing company by EFCC. ( That BPNC demand the unconditional release of all pro Biafra detainees in Nigeria prisons like Kuje, Onitsha and Awka prisons.“(9) That BPNC demand that Federal Government of Nigeria should set up necessary machineries for separation of the region of Biafra from Nigeria and sharing of all assets and liabilities. “(10) That BPNC advised all the governors of Eastern region (Southeast/ south south) to ignore the questionable assurances given to them by the Arewa governors and federal government with the subtle promises that Biafrans residing in Arewa land are save. “(11) That BPNC urgently call for total unity of purpose among all the major and minor pro Biafra groups.” http://dailypost.ng/2017/06/15/leave-north-now-coalition-biafra-agitators-tells-igbos/ |

DeadPresident:Universities in US have campus police and jurisdiction power. They are licensed to wear side ammo of no more than 9mm calibre. They have a higher grade shotgun or rifle secured in the trunk of their car and are only permitted in cases involving a lock-down to bring out the rifle. Certain class of security men also carry gun in US, depending on what asset they are protecting. For instance the security of Federal Buildings is contracted to private security firm and they carry ammo. Bullion vans security guards carry ammo. In Unilag, we will be over-policing to issue ammo to security guards. This security guard in the picture has ambition...he wishes he had a gun so he could display power, the wish come true for him with the wooden replica in his hand. This was not officially issued, the discretion to carry a wooden pistol is this man's alone. He has ego problem, and I can imagine if he indeed was allowed to carry a true gun how much authority he will impose on innocent students. |
Cuddlebugie: ![]() Lie ke? Iroo o! A beautiful girl like you should be treated with good impression. Why veil your face, are you hiding from Ekiti? ![]() |
The claim has to be carefully studied. In a span of 200yrs Western Europeans entered and colonized every land of West Africa. Before their entry we were black, after their exit we are still black...but our landscape is no longer what it was, our language, culture, worship, judicial and even political structure all went through a complete new birth and changed our consciousness and philosophy from afrocentric to eurocentric, yet from outside looking at us there is nothing to suggest we ever had contact with the European. It is not impossible that the two cultures were at one point in contact. |
Cuddlebugie:Is that all you can say about Ekiti? Come on, say something nice ![]() |
OP, American pronounciation is not the standard english usage across the globe. Your lessons is adequate for US but inadequate for the globe. |
One of the many absurdities of English language is its disconnect from true emotions. Though very romantic to the ear, it is somewhat distant when needed to convey emotiona and reality. Take for instance "mankind". Do we have a animalkind, a plantkind, a sea-creaturekind? Mankind would mean someone not fully man...but just an image of man. Who then is man, a deity? It cycles back to your point on son of man and eniyan...perfect observation with the usage of Elyon. |
Olu317:Olu, Thanks for this piece. The Europeans have done vast studies on Yoruba and uncovered monumental facts and treasures to aid their understanding on the question of root and origin. The Portuguese have many many literatures and published works on our culture and civilization. So does Britain. Britain, out of self preservation for its own roots and to remove controversy prefer to keep its findings out of public glare. If they release what they know about Yoruba into public domain the doctrines of Christianity will have to be upgraded, and Yoruba spiritualism will be the donor for such upgrade. The global society of Judaism know who we are. The remnants of what our ancestors could not take with them on migration the Israelites acquired when they occupied Canaan. There is a cognitive awareness of Yoruba as an ancient Hebrew race. Due to the discoveries and archiving of materials collected by Leo Frobenius and his outburst on Ife civilization, the Germans and the Russians have also done vast studies on Yoruba culture and history. In fact Professor Dierk Lange did not release all his findings to the public either. He gave enough for comparison of cultures and identity between Yoruba, Assyria and Mesopotamia but he kept most of his works as proprietary assets and away from public. If he released everything it would cause new understanding on world order and civilizations and those previously upheld as civilized races may loose their position to Yoruba on the ranking list, an avoidable conflict and controversy; wisdom prevailed. The Arabs know who Yorubas are, their writings and oral record passed through the vines of caravan trade routes and was shared with Clapperton when he visited the Sultan of Sokoto. The first manuscript on the History of the Yorubas, originally composed by Samuel Johnson's brother was taken out of circulation when it got to England where it was dispatched to be published. A tenable version, revised for local consumption was published in its place. We, the Yorubas, know who we are through oral records and artifacts of history in tangible and non-tangible mediums by which we retell and document our past deeds and footprints. The only people who are bereft of knowledge of Yoruba origin and roots are the few Yorubas taught by Europeans how to read and write their own history. |
