Politics / Badeh: Recovered $1m Captured On Video - Witness by metronaija: 2:34pm On Feb 23, 2017
A Federal High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja presided over by Justice Okon Abang on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 admitted in evidence the search warrant used by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC in conducting search on a house located at No. 6, Ogun Rivers Street, Maitama, Abuja belonging to a former Chief of Defence Staff, Alex Badeh during which $1million cash was recovered in his wardrobe.

Badeh is standing trial along Iyalikam Nigeria Limited on a 10-count charge bordering on money laundering, criminal breach of trust and corruption to the tune of N3.97 billion.

He allegedly abused his office as CDS by using the dollar equivalent of the sum of N1.4billion removed from the accounts of the Nigerian Air Force to purchase properties in choice areas of Abuja between January and December, 2013.
At the last sitting, the EFCC through its PW15, Mohammed Goji, told the court how a search conducted on the house of the former CDS led to the recovery of the money.
Attempt by the prosecuting counsel, Rotimi Jacobs, SAN, to tender the search warrant, a red box and the waybill as evidence was, however, objected to by Badeh’s counsel, Lasun Sanusi, SAN.

Sanusi argued that, the documents were purportedly obtained from an illegal search.
According to him, the law gave the owner of the property the impetus to nominate a representative to witness such search if he or she could not be present.
“It is on record that the defendant was still in detention when the purported search was done in his house at Maitama which is a clear violation of the law.

“My Lord, we are not against the court admitting the search warrant as evidence but we vehemently oppose to the admissibility of the other items,’’ he said.
In response, Jacobs argued that Section 149 and 150 of ACJA which deals with house search warrant permitted the presence of two witnesses and the person the warrant is addressed to. He went further to explain how the witness can be any one in the neighbourhood.

Justice Abang in his ruling on the admissibility of the documents at the resumed sitting on Wednesday held that, “the first search warrant dated February 3, 2016 and executed on February 11, 2016 was not objected to” and it’s marked at exhibit T103.
The judge also held that issue of the legality of the item “is premature at this time” adding that, “it’s an issue for evidence in the final address”.

Consequently, the documents were admitted as exhibits T104, T105, T106 respectively.
Under further cross-examination, the PW15 insisted that the search was conducted in line with the enabling law and was recorded in a video clip.
Jacobs sought to tender the clip in evidence saying, “I will like to tender the DVD containing the search in evidence”, but its admissibility was again objected to by Sanusi, who said the document never came as part of the proof of evidence.

Sanusi added that, “we are seeing it for the first time in court even in civil cases we are to be given a copy of evidence so that we don’t fall into an ambush”. He, therefore, asked for adjournment to enable him go through the evidence with his client.
Justie Abang after listening to the submissions of both counsel ordered the prosecution to oblige the defence with a copy of the clip and other documents they might wish to tender as evidence in the course of the trial.

The judge, thereafter, adjourned to the March 20 - 23, 2017 for continuation of trial.

Travel / AMCON Takes Over OAS Helicopters by metronaija: 10:45am On Feb 15, 2017
The Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) has taken over another airline, Odengene Air-Shuttle Services, known more as OAS Helicopters in Lagos following a court order. It was the third aviation firm to be taken over by the bad bank in four months.

OAS is one of the leading helicopter chatter service companies in the country.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that AMCON had on Tuesday sealed the company at Maryland in Lagos, indicating that the company had been taken over.

The order on the company’s office reads: “POSSESSION TAKEN TODAY 14/2/17 BY AMCON COURT ORDER ON SUIT NO. FHC/4CS/1139/2016

NAN however reports that it could not authoritatively confirm if the company is indebted to some banks that could have warranted such take over.

However, the company was among the airlines that received the Federal Government intervention fund during the tenure of President Goodluck Jonathan.

Recall that AMCON had on Thursday Feb.9, taken over the management of Arik Air, after it had earlier taken over the management of Aero Contractors in 2016.

Celebrities / Niyola Gives Fan Lap Dance (Photos) by metronaija: 9:20pm On Feb 13, 2017
R ‘n’ B singer Niyola made a daring move that caused several men to drool and go green with envy at the recently concluded ‘Eargasm’ concert which held on the 11th of February, 2017 at EKO Hotel Convention Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Niyola opened her performance with a number of songs; singing with a live band and showing off her vocal deftness; to which the audience continuously applauded in glee. During her performance, the singer asked the band to mute; before going on to request for a male volunteer among the audience for her next performance.

Trying to randomly pick a lucky guy from the excited volunteers who frantically raised and waved their hands, a random guy; about 6’5ft with a husky physical appearance boldly strode towards the stage; causing Niyola to exclaim excitedly before taking his hand to help him ascend the stage.

The singer then told the guy to sit on a chair, which had been on the stage prior to her own performance. She moves on to bellow at the audience “This is how you treat a man!”.

Slowly, with a suggestive gaze at the audience; Niyola sat on the lucky guy’s lap; rotating and wining her waist back and forth; inducing a frenzied loud roar from the entire audience.

After a few titillating minutes, the ‘Toh Bad’ songstress thanked the lucky fan before ushering him out of the stage.

The audience also witnessed a slew of remarkable performances from other talented musical acts, including 2Face, Adekunle Gold, Tekno, Kelly Hansome, Yinka Davies and a host of others

Politics / Osinbajo Set Up Committee To Beat Down Food Stuff Prices by metronaija: 8:14pm On Feb 01, 2017
Moved by the need to enhance affordable food prices across the country, the Buhari administration has constituted a Presidential Task Force to urgently consider measures that would ensure a steady flow of produce to the market and reverse recent price increases.

Giving the directive today at the Federal Executive Council meeting, Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, expressed concern at some of the inflationary rates of food prices, noting that the Task Force will explore options to promote availability and affordability of food items to Nigerians.

According to him, the Task Force, which has seven days from today to report back to the Council will consider how to remove some of the cost-raising factors that come into play between the farms and the markets and therefore "bring relief to our people."

While there have been reports of bumper harvests in parts of the country, the prices of food stuff still end up rather high, while some of the produce even end up wasted due to a number of reasons preventing effective transportation delivery to the markets.

One of the focus areas of the Task Force, the Ag. President noted, would be to review the transportation and preservation processes, and see how government can intervene in those aspects to bring down food prices.

The Task Force, which would be meeting with the Ag. President in the discharge of its urgent assignment, will therefore draw out a practical plan and present same to the Council next week.

Members of the Task Force include the following:

Minister of Agriculture & Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh
Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun
Minister of Industry, Trade & Development, Dr. Okey Enelamah
Minister of Transportation, Honorable Rotimi Amaechi
Minister for Water Resources, Engr. Suleiman
Minister of Labour & Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige

The Offices of the Chief of Staff to the President and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs, would also be on the Task Force.

Senior Special Assistant on Media & Publicity to the President

Politics / MMM: 10 Things That Will Happen To Churches That Promoted Scheme – Cleric by metronaija: 2:11pm On Feb 01, 2017
Dr. Sunday Adelaja, a Ukraine based NIgerian Pastor has lambasted men of God and churches that encouraged their members to invest in the Mavrodi Mondial Movement, MMM.

In an article he wrote, Adelaja said it was unfortunate that some clerics took the scheme to the church without doing adequate research.

He said now that MMM seems to have crashed, the reputation of those who openly and secretly promoted the scheme was at stake.

The article reads in part:

“Let me give you a list of consequences that I believe will be detrimental to any church that allows the activities of MMM in their church or among their members.

1. When, not if, this scheme collapses, the first ripple effect is that a large amount of money has been withdrawn from church members. As a result, the churches will become poorer.

2. The people who participate in these schemes are actually taking either their extra money out to these platforms or they are using their tithe and offerings which equals to fleecing the church one way or another.

3. After the collapse of MMM, pastors will discover that church members would rather use their money to clean up the mess of paying their debt or returning money to their creditors, etc. rather than paying their tithe and offering to the church and this could go on for a long time.

4. There is going to be a lot of strife among church members. People will begin to point accusing fingers at each other for getting them involved in the business which will lead to a lot of conflict within the church.

5. If the network was sanctioned by the leadership of any church even though not directly, the church will still be blamed while all the previous good works of the church will be quickly forgotten.

6. A lot of the culprits will suddenly disappear only to resurface in places like London and Paris, but the churches will have nowhere to run to. They will have to remain to clean up the mess. It could get to the point where the church might have to empty its coffers just to help members put food on their table.

7. Some faint hearted church members who don’t have anywhere to run to could end up committing suicide. Believe me, the media and the unbelieving world will jump on that and try to crucify the church for it.

8. Church members will begin to doubt the authority and validity of the church leadership. Some will even say if the General overseer or pastor is a true man of God, why didn’t he see it coming? Why didn’t God reveal to him that this business was going to collapse?

9. I know this is unlikely to happen in Nigeria but in Europe here, what I had to face is that since I am the senior pastor of the church, a law suit was raised against me, accusing me of being the mastermind of the so called scheme. I doubt this will happen in Nigeria because of the respect for our religious institutions and leaders, but you must still know that the danger is there.

10. Due to the loss of the church’s credibility, it will be followed by the mass loss in church members, which would be exploited by the enemies of Christ and His church.

“Due to all the above mentioned points, I therefore wish to appeal to my fellow pastors and colleagues in ministry to do all they can to begin a campaign that will stop the continuous propaganda and infiltration of MMM and other such groups into their congregations.”

Religion / TB Joshua Exposes Shrine Where Elderly 'priests' Enslave, Sleep With Virgins by metronaija: 10:34am On Jan 30, 2017
A shocking video about Ghana’s ‘trokosi system’ released last week by Nigerian Prophet T.B. Joshua’s YouTube channel ‘Emmanuel TV’ has gone viral.
The clip, titled ‘The Most SHOCKING Confession You May Ever Hear’, chronicles the heart-breaking ordeal of Mary Nenyo from Ghana’s Volta region and has raked up over 130,000 views in just a few days.

Emmanuel TV describes the 66-minute clip as “a bone-chillingly brutal tale of physical, mental, spiritual and sexual slavery that will move even the stoniest of hearts to tears.”

Speaking at The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) in Lagos, Nigeria, Mary narrated how her family gave her as a “virgin sacrifice” to Korle Shrine in order to “atone for the sin” of her great-great-grandfather which was said to be behind the curse of premature deaths occurring in the family.

“They took me to the riverside and initiated me on a journey of no return… I was then introduced to an old priest as my husband,” she recounted, explaining that all this happened in her tender infancy.

The elderly fetish priest would sexually satisfy himself with Mary at whim along with the other 500 maidens forcefully ‘imprisoned’ in the shrine.

“The priest would just point at you. He could call us chicken, goat or cow – because we were cows to him – then, he would sleep with us just like that,” she tearfully described.

Her duties included preparing ‘charms’ for people seeking protection at the shrine and beseeching the gods that more sin be committed so more innocent virgins could be entrapped into the vicious cycle.

As Mary grew older, she broke protocol by taking ventures outside the shrine’s confines, one day being spotted naked by a group of foreign tourists who took her picture.

Six months later, her ‘freedom’ was procured by the foreigners in conjunction with an NGO called ‘International Needs’, leading to the release of the 500 young girls who were in ritual servitude at the shrine.

However, physical liberation did not stop Mary from a living a life of spiritual slavery. Unable to trace her real family, Mary moved to 11 different locations but continued to experience “a series of rejection, maltreatment and abuse”.

Men had an unnerving sexual attraction for her and exploited her innocence at will. “The demons would enter the men and make them sleep with me,” she stated, adding that each promiscuous encounter was followed by dismissal and hatred from the men involved.

Plagued by terrible nightmares of snakes and increasing mental instability, Mary eventually found herself begging on the streets for survival at Madina Market in Accra. There, she finally met a ‘Good Samaritan’ and narrated her sordid story to her.

“She said that the only person would could deliver me from all those demons was Prophet T.B. Joshua,” Mary explained, adding that the lady fully paid for her journey from Ghana to The SCOAN in Lagos, Nigeria.

After Mary was ‘delivered’ from the “demons that held her in bondage”, she stayed in the church for several weeks. “Before, I never knew I was a normal human being,” she testified, stating that she could sleep peacefully for the first time in her life after prayer.

T.B. Joshua used his influence and resources to locate Mary’s long-lost mother, who was residing in Ivory Coast, and brought her to Nigeria to meet with her daughter in an emotional reconciliation.

The SCOAN additionally gave $1,500 to Mary to start her life afresh. “I have seen powers upon powers but there is a power beyond powers – the God who used Prophet T.B. Joshua to liberate me from darkness,” the former slave concluded.

The video evoked a storm of reactions, with several of Joshua’s foreign supporters calling on the Ghanaian government to take urgent steps to address the “inhumane treatment” still being experienced by victims of the Trokosi system.

Investment / Why MMM Top Guider, Chuddy Ugorji And His Wife Fled Nigeria by metronaija: 2:44pm On Jan 26, 2017
The hope mavrodians have of retrieving their ‘investments’ and ‘profits’ from the Mavrodi Mondial Moneybox (MMM) Ponzi scheme continues to dim by the day, as Nigeria’s top guider, Chuddy Ugorji, has reportedly fled the country.

It was gathered that Ugorji, left Nigeria with his wife to the Philippines.

He fled the country when many investors were waiting to be paid their money with the accrued interest.

Chuddy’s relocation came barely 24 hours after he released new conditions for payment of participants.

He had given the impression that the Ponzi scheme had started paying outstanding money to participants of the scheme. But the payment is just symbolic.

Meanwhile, the ponzi scheme issued new guidelines on Wednesday.

It said, “As a necessary measure, we decided to set limit to withdrawal this week thus the N31,000 maximum withdrawal on your PO.

“We are still committed to prioritise paying smaller amounts first and gradually increase the amount to higher ones. The system does the calculations and knows how to calculate everyone’s mavros.

“Between Friday that we opened and today, hundreds of thousands of GH orders have been matched.
More and more GH orders will be matched as time goes on. If you see error notification when trying to GH, just keep trying.

“PH to GH is still a suggestion to be tabled before Sergey Mavrodi for consideration. Disregard any info suggesting that you must PH to GH till further announcement in your PO. Freezing of bonuses for now is another suggestion to be tabled before Sergey Mavrodi for his consideration. Which means if approved, you will only be able to GH your personal contributions for now until the system recovers and stabilises.”

Chairman of the Forum, Alhaji Kashim Shettima of Borno, disclosed this to newsmen at the end of the forum’s meeting in Kaduna, on Tuesday.

Shettima said most of the herdsmen were immigrants from Senegal and Mali.

“We also mapped out new strategies that would be used by the local Fulani herdsmen to rear their cattle without having to move across the country,” he said.

He said the forum is working to ensure that every Nigerian could conveniently settle in any part of the country without suffering any form of discrimination.

“Some of the past governors of Kano State, like the late Sabo Bakin Zawo, from Niger, and Ibrahim Shekarau, from Borno, were not indigenes technically, but were assimilated and even attained the highest office in Kano,” he observed.

Shettima expressed hope that the issues in the northern part of the country will soon be solved.

Politics / Trump Team Denies Inviting Ex-president Jonathan To Inuaguration by metronaija: 8:59pm On Jan 19, 2017
The Trump transition committee, Great Again, has denied reports in some sections of the media in Nigeria that President-elect Trump declined invitation to President Muhammadu Buhari and has instead invited former president Goodluck Jonathan to the U.S 45th presidential inauguration scheduled for Friday in Washington.

The official speaking to Per Second News in Washington Thursday morning said that the inauguration was mostly a domestic event for America.

“The US State Department has advised that as in the past, foreign delegations will not be invited to Washington for the President-elect Trump’s 2017 inauguration and that heads of state and governments will be represented by chiefs of diplomatic missions in Washington,” the official said.

A twitter account of Deji Adeyanju, a PDP spokesperson also said that United States of America president-elect Donald Trump has invited ex-president of Nigeria Goodluck Jonathan to his inauguration on Friday, January 20, 2017.

A U.S State Department official said that “The ‘Heads of Mission’ are the only foreign officially invited. It will be an historic few days!” He further confirmed that one invitation card has been sent to the Nigerian Mission in Washington, DC.

According to the Great Again official, Trump’s Presidential Inaugural Committee has raised a record $90 million-plus in private donations, far more than President Barack Obama’s two inaugural committees.

But while Trump has raised more money for his inauguration than any president in history, lead inaugural planner Tom Barrack said theTrump team wants to avoid a “circus-like atmosphere” in favor of a more “back to work” mindset.

He said only few foreign leaders were invited, which includes Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Canadian Prime Minister.

Trump’s Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson also revealed Thursday that 28,000 officials are dedicated to security for the event, including 7,800 National Guard troops.

Former leader Jonathan is currently in Bayelsa, according to close aides.
