Jesus earthly occupation was carpenter and also a Jewish Rabbi and under the Mosaic Law. As such, he did not condemn tithing because it was part of the JEWISH religious faith.

If tithing was spiritual principle Jesus wld have said more on it....there is no evidence in the bible that he tithed or collected tithe even thou it was recorded that he paid tax ....Give to ceaser ..and peter caught a fish and found a coin to pay it.

Jesus was a carpenter and the disciples also had jobs.. Judas was their treasurer. Jesus never asked people for money. He always ask the rich to sell all they have and give to the poor...Paul also encouraged hard work...

Jews in Jesus’ day believed that riches were a sign of God’s favour and because the Mosaic law promised blessings for obedience . Jesus’ parables and his teachings were a shock to the Jews because it challenged the thinking that prosperity was a sign of acceptance and approval from God. ...story of the rich young ruler.. that asked what to do to make heaven
Jesus thought on money was another sermon on Mount mat 6 .....you cannot serve God and Money..do not store up tresures on earth etc. He also encourage us to give generously to the poor.and have faith.

After Jesus death is GraCE .... “And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit. At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom” Mat27:50-51. So, what do we make of this? What significance does this torn veil have for us today

Romans 6:14 "For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are NOT under the law, but under grace."
Galatians 5:18 "and if by the Spirit ye are led, ye are NOT under law."
Romans 3:28 - "Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith WITHOUT the deeds of the law."
Romans 10:4 - "For Christ is the END OF THE LAW for righteousness to every one that believes."

There is no scriptural doctrine that God ever transferred the ownership of the tithe from the Levite to any church, pastor, teacher, apostle, prophet, evangelist or for that matter.

Abraham and his son are recorded in bible as tithing one time each.

Proverbs 19:17 Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed.

at op we can also see the story of the widow from another angle .....

The poor widow in the temple truly understood what Jesus was saying in Matthew 6:19-21..
.
“Do not put away riches for yourselves on earth. Moths and rust can destroy them. Thieves can break in and steal them. Instead, put away riches for yourselves in heaven. There, moths and rust do not destroy them. There, thieves do not break in and steal them. Your heart will be where your riches are.”

Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others.Mark 12.., luk 21...

They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on” Mark 12 ..43..44

Can all the pastors or true believers give away all they had in the name of the gospel.... cos they always ask people to challenge God in their given.. I do not have enough faith to empty all the money in my bank account ..... do you..

By giving with a generous and pure heart, the poor widow was storing away rewards that would last FOREVER!

DBestDoc:

The money paul collected, was it for himself?
No
Was it to be kept in a bank account as a church fund?
No
Paul gathered those offerings so he could send them to the brothers in need . That is what the early church, the real christians were known for. They shared all they had with those that didnt have . No one collected from the rest in the name of being a pastor or prophect.

Even Paul you quoted never took anything for himself. He said he worked with his own hands, that God forbid that he becomes a burden to anyone. Even though he had the right to tax them, he never did.

Try and study the bible very well, and when you do, desist from picking a single verse rather, read the preceding and subsequent verses to get the full message.

Tithing is very unchristian, whether you accept the glaring truth or not. But offerings are recorded everywhere in the bible. Jesus gave and received for His ministry, the early church also gave and received. But giving has to be done cheerfully like the bible commanded that is why the widow gave. Willingly and Jesus hailed her for that.

You can give jets to your pastor, nobody stops you from doing that, but saying you're giving it to God is where the problem lies. God is nobody's mate. Tithe to your pastor and his ministry but don't drag God into it 'cause clearly from the scriptures, the only way you give to God is by giving to the needy, clothing the naked, feeding the hungry, visiting the sick and our services to God. Don't add or subtract from the scriptures.

You just wrote eveything I wanted to write... wink Daddy Freeze was not against given or donation .. the guy was talking about tithes ..

The collection was a gift from the Gentile churches to the Jerusalem believers. Romans 15:26 states that “Macedonia and Achaia were pleased to make a contribution for the poor among the saints in Jerusalem,

my thinking here> " Acts 20:4 there is a list of names traveling with Paul, all likely representatives of Paul’s churches Paul was careful to separate his own ministry from the Collection for the Saints. Because some Jews had plotted against him ..so that they may not say he stole the money ...

to begin with ...Paul did acknowledging his right to receive compensation from the Corinthians and then started to battle with that and wanted his audience to catch his work ethic and sacrifice in ministering the word of God

"You yourselves know that these hands ministered to my necessities and to those who were with me. In all these things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive’ (Acts 20:34–35).

But I have made no use of any of these rights, nor am I writing these things to secure any such provision. . What then is my reward? That in my preaching I may present the gospel free of charge, so as not to make full use of my right in the gospel. (1 Cor. 9:12–18)

Paul conscientiously chose to preach for free so that he would not “put an obstacle in the way of the gospel of Christ.” Instead of clinging to the principle “the laborer deserves to be paid,”

For you remember, brothers, our labor and toil: we worked night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you, while we proclaimed to you the gospel of God (1 Thess. 2:9).

For you yourselves know how you ought to imitate us
, because we were not idle when we were with you, nor did we eat anyone’s bread without paying for it, but with toil and labor we worked night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you (2 Thess. 3:7–cool.

Even Jesus said to enter kingdom of God you have to feed the needy,, cloth them , help strangers. Mat 25 .. I would rather do what Jesus said than worry about anyone's tithe and Jesus did not even recognise tithes as money but as seed and herbs even though they had money.

I guess we all interpret the bible differently smiley

Tithes was not Money ... God did not mention tithes to be Money.. or .Income Based, Christian ministers today would rather have the money than the foodstuffs .

mat 23> 23 > Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness. They also had money then.

*Dill is an annual herb in the celery family , cumin... used in the cuisines of many different cultures* family of parsley and mint we all know that

deu 14> 23Eat the tithe of your grain, new wine and olive oil, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks in the presence of the Lord your God at the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name, so that you may learn to revere the Lord your God always.

God ...... referred to tithes as ......food ... not money....He said eat with ur family....you also have to eat the tithe ..but you dont eat money na
Jesus ...........referred to tithes as.... ..... seed and herbs not money
Malachi said ............ its food and not Money
Levitcus said ................its food and not Money
DEUT . said ............... food and not money
Pharisees ............seed and herbs ..not Money
Jewish people ........edible items....not money

and please DONT tell me there was no currency in those days....

Gen 23 > 16 when Abraham wanted to buy a burial site for Sarah ........"My lord, hearken unto me: the land is worth four hundred shekels of silver; 400 shekels of silver ..
Joseph’s brothers sold him for 30 pieces of silver
There was also money during the time Jesus was on earth > Judas betrayed Jesus for thirty pieces of silver .. Jesus never called tithes money....he referred to it as seed and herbs... I stand with Jesus and support TB Joshua .....give it to the poor or needy

ollah1:

Go back to the same Samuel
2 Samuel 5: 6

The king and his men marched to Jerusalem to attack the Jebusites, who lived there. The Jebusites said to David, "You will not get in here; even the blind and the lame can ward you off." They thought, "David cannot get in here."

Who are the Jebusites? They are the cannaites, who are the cannaites? Below is your answer

Hello Ollah ..
read up to verse 9>

AGREED > I understand your point ..,. David bought the land from them

David granted terms of peace with the remaining Jebusites, because he made a friendly deal with Araunah the Jebusite to purchase land for building the temple (2 Samuel 24:18–25). The Jebusites remained subjugated to Israel and were part of the forced labor Solomon later used for his building projects.

Bible ref>
Read 2 Samuel 24> 18 to 25.. I copied it for you to make it easy.

18 On that day Gad went to David and said to him, “Go up and build an altar to the Lord on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.” 19 So David went up, as the Lord had commanded through Gad. 20 When Araunah looked and saw the king and his officials coming toward him, he went out and bowed down before the king with his face to the ground.

21 Araunah said, “Why has my lord the king come to his servant?”

“To buy your threshing floor,” David answered, “so I can build an altar to the Lord, that the plague on the people may be stopped.”

22 Araunah said to David, “Let my lord the king take whatever he wishes and offer it up. Here are oxen for the burnt offering, and here are threshing sledges and ox yokes for the wood. 23 Your Majesty, Araunah[a] gives all this to the king.” Araunah also said to him, “May the Lord your God accept you.”

24 But the king replied to Araunah, “No, I insist on paying you for it. I will not sacrifice to the Lord my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing.”

So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen and paid fifty shekels of silver for them. 25 David built an altar to the Lord there and sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings. Then the Lord answered his prayer in behalf of the land, and the plague on Israel was stopped.

The Hebrew Bible describes the Jebusites as dwelling in the mountains besides Jerusalem. In Exodus, the 'good and large land, flowing with milk and honey' which was promised to Moses as the future home of the oppressed Hebrew people included the land of the Jebusites

The land of Canaan was the land God promised to give to Abraham’s descendants (Genesis 12:7). The Canaanites are described in the Bible as a large and fierce people, not easily defeated, so the Israelites would need divine help to come against them, defeat them, and take their land away. God promised Moses and Joshua that help (Joshua 1:3).

The fall of Jericho was a supernatural event, as God overthrew that city (Joshua 6). This victory was a sign to the people of Israel and to the people of Canaan that God had given the land of Canaan to the Israelites.
Some of the Canaanites who remained in Israel were pressed into forced labor, and the disobedience of Israel resulted in the unrest happening in Judges. the Battle of Jericho was the first battle of the Israelites in their conquest of Canaan

more Wiki ref> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jebusite

According to the Hebrew Bible, the Jebusites were a Canaanite tribe who inhabited Jerusalem prior to its conquest by Joshua (11:3 and 12:10) or King David (2 Samuel 5:6-10). The Books of Kings state that Jerusalem was known as Jebus prior to this event. According to some biblical chronologies, the city was conquered ...

Try to find out more from Journals ...archaeology reports and history ,..https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_Jerusalem . you will find out the true ownership of Jerusalem.

. Nearly 3,000 years ago King David was the Israelite purchaser of the place that is known today as the Jerusalem Temple Mount - years before there was a Temple there. As we will read, David actually purchased the property for another purpose, but it was later used as the site of the Temple built by David’s son and successor King Solomon.
In order to emphasize the uniqueness and importance of Jerusalem, David brought the Holy Ark of the Covenant there and turned the city into the religious center of the People of Israel

Jerusalem has many names >Salem, Moriah, Jebus, Zion, and Jerusalem. Zion (that is, the City of David).

2 Samuel 24:18-19, 24 > .” So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.
it sounds very familiar. It is the same as when Abraham went to purchase Hebron from Ephron the Hitite. Again, Araunah tries to give the threshing floor to King David as a place to sacrifice to God, to set up an altar. But David doesn’t believe the offer is genuine and he insists that he must pay for the threshing floor and oxen with 50 shekels of silver. That way it is his, he owns it and no one can question his right to follow God’s commandment to sacrifice those oxen on that location.

1 Chronicles 21:24-25 Then King David said to Ornan, “No, but I will surely buy it for the full price, for I will not take what is yours for the Lord, nor offer burnt offerings with that which costs me nothing.” So David gave Ornan six hundred shekels of gold by weight for the place.

Why does the account in 2 Samuel say 50 shekels and the account in 1 Chronicles say 600 shekels? Which one is right?
The Jewish belief is that David paid 50 shekels for each tribe so that the 12 tribes of Israel would all have equal ownership in the altar, 50 x 12 = 600.

2 Chronicles 3:1 Now Solomon began to build the house of the Lord at Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the Lord had appeared to his father David, at the place that David had prepared on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.

So we can know with certainty that Jerusalem belongs to the Jewish people and the title deed for the very land is recorded in the Bible.

You can google it if you like or go to library.

exactly , and i think pastors and the general public are getting the message of daddy freeze movement wrong.
DADDY FREEZE IS NOT AGAINST TITHING , people pay tithes to their churches all over the world and daddy freeze isn't condemning them simply because EVERYONE CAN SEE THE GOOD WORKS OF CHURCHES IN THOSE COUNTRIES AND HOW THEY ARE RELENTLESSLY HELPING THE POOR AND HOW THEIR PASTORS ARE LIVING SIMPLE MODEST LIFESTYLE DEVOID OF ANY FLAMBOYANT SPENDINGS OR LIFESTYLE
but in Nigeria the opposite seems to be the case , people pay tithes to the church and many men of God preach to people indirectly telling them that if they give to them , God will bless them more than if they help the poor , to be honest this is one of the reasons poverty still remains a problem in Nigeria, so instead of ppl channeling their resources to helping the less privilege in the society and in uplifting the poor , people rather give these pastors their money because they believe they are only channel to Gods blessings. and what daddy freeze is saying why give all those money to your pastors who makes use of the money to buy luxurious cars for his wife and children, establish good businesses for them while there are thousands of people who could have been uplifted by such funds .
secondly, there are many Islamic scholars who are very very rich but no one will hear about them buying many jets and so on like that, it has gotten to a stage that christian pastors seem to be competing among themselves who is the richest or who has the most flamboyant lifestyle ,i think this daddy fresh movement will curtail all this and show ppl that there are many people they can help with the cash gifts they keep giving to pastors. a pastor that has 10 cars will still be receiving more cars from members as gifts .

http://naijachurchnews.com/prophet-gives-wife-n30-million-birthday-gift/
Prophet Jeremiah Omoto Fufeyin General Overseer of Mercyland Church Warri, Delta State, has given his wife, Anthonia Fufeyin, a whooping amount of N30 million as birthday present.

there was no reason for this man to give his wife 30 million naira publicly since he and his wife live together ,this is one the reasons many ppl are grumbling

Imagine! the same bible tells us that the poor are to be given and benefit from the tithes. . Telling the poor to pay tithes, with promises that God would open the windows of heaven and pour blessings on them is a big con game.... bros they are threatened and psychologically terrorised for not paying tithes and told there would be curse and no breakthroughs in their lives If they dont .....no matter what you say they will not listen ..,,,and even attack you.
.. The pastors are now setting trend for the next greedy generation .Some are also in the ministry with the desire to make money and fleece the people.. .....the game is still on ......all I know is that the apostles gave their lives to spread the gospel of Christ without taking tithes ,,, Many churches function perfectly today without tithes. Catholics are under no obligation to tithe a certain percentage of their income to the Church but you can assist with need of the church ,,which is fair

na real waaa o
.what a show of shame in the church ....30 million to his wife ... so he has to do it in front of the church .... gods of men mtchews

Do you just tithes and ignore the laws, years and feast to attached to tithing in the bible...otherwise you are doing it wrong.

Daddy Freeze raised the points below as stated in the bible. You need to read the whole of Malachi and Deut
God talks about the place, what activities are expected... and that .... you are to bring burnt offerings, your sacrifices, with your tithes. They were instructed to bring their tithes – ten percent of but many different items. They also are to share with the Levites *collectors of tithes*....you are also suppose to eat the tithe before God and rejoice with your family...it is suppose to be done yearly from your increase. The poor and needy were to be cared for......and Det 15 ..the end of every seven years you shall grant a release of debts. ... that is free ur debtors
