Litmus: I understand exactly what you mean; however, in this instance, the unspoken implication is about selling our foods to the world in order to encourage as much people as possible to visit Nigerian restaurants so that Nigerian restaurants thrive and Nigeria foods take their place among world dishes practiced and cooked by chefs and food writers.
Food makes money, it popularises Nations and encourages visits that in turn create employment and feeds the national coffers Exactly, it's funny how many Indian, Chinese and Thai restaurants you will see dotted around any major city, even when a lot of them are racist against those people. Food is power. |

Litmus: Eba and soup has great potential - competent hands can and do create great visual effect manipulating the contrast between the different garri colours and the myriad soups. Actually, I would argue that Nigerians should replace Senegalese rice (jellof is too basic) with either ebba and soup or yam portage as the national signature dish. In addition, ebba and soup has the unique selling point of being perhaps the only dish around the world where dinners have to swallow without chewing, thus forcing diners to experience the triggering of taste-buds rarely used by people in contemporary dining. In fact, Nigerians when presenting Eba and soup to foreigners should insist that they swallow and not chew. This swallowing without chewing is a marketing point Nigerians neglect. Swallowing it is not too healthy actually, according to some recent medical advice. But another good selling point is the fact that its traditionally eaten with the hands. The main aspects to market are the flavours, cooking methods and the aesthetics. Western cooking favours sharp angles, edges, daintiness and precision. A giant lump of Eba doesn't chime with those sensibilities. Probably if you served it as small, bitesize Eba "packages" with the soup held inside (with some kind of sealing agent to stop them from leaking), it may appeal more than our usual method. Of course, rice is a lot easier to market, if the ingredients are altered to taste. The crayfish/shrimp and brightly coloured vegetables would appeal to a lot of people. Yam pottage is very good too because of the muted colours and contrasting textures. And we have a lot of cool snacks, especially sweet desserts from the north. We have a lot to offer sha |

Litmus: They don’t cook in garage nattin, they cook in the house and it smells mightily like many good, cultural food with solid history should and whites love it. If Indians cooked them shit, the whites would jump in it and lap it all up. They Whites learned to appreciate all that comes with Indian food - smell, looks and texture. Nigerian foods are cultural too, good, healthy and with solid history. Nigerians just have to tolerate the snide and racist comments about their food, persist in cooking them in all their verity and glory - not silly Senegalese rice – but Nigerian ethnic foods and eventually the majority of people around the world adapt to it also. This is already happening and Nigerians should continue to revolutionise how the world perceive Africans and their foods. You need to understand the difference between Indian food that has been changed and evolved to suit foreign taste and actual Indian curries that smell very strong and spicy. Indians migrated to the UK a long time before Nigerians and have had the chance to perfect some fusion dishes that sit well with white audiences. And they're big in restaurant/take-away business. You'd be surprised to know that some of those curries they sell to white people don't even exist in India, the same way "Italian food" in America has nothing to do with what they cook back in Italy. Italian people always complain that their food has been bastardised by their overseas cousins. I agree though that eventually our foods will begin to filter through to mainstream audiences. It's mostly a marketing problem. Eba and soup could look disgusting to some people in the way its presented even though they have no issue eating porridge, colcannon and other foods with similar texture. |

OiOi: it was just my opinion. It may truly not have a bearing factor on the actual account. But the truth is no one will want to compromise their health Your point is valid, it's just that she had no right to discriminate outwardly based on his nationality. You don't have to accommodate anybody in your house if it's not what you want, she was just making a point of being spiteful to assert her racial superiority on the guy. |

AreaFada2: I suspect the landlady is not British. Likely from Eastern Europe. They do not yet have the more sophisticated "coded" way the British use to discriminate.
A British person would have said "the viewer who came to see it yesterday has just confirmed by phone they will take the room. Sorry for the journey here". Or something along those lines. Exactly. No native British person talks like that. They will code it very well I strongly suspect the woman is from some Slavic country where there are very few people of colour and was feeling superior to utter that kind of illiterate statement. |

Commentor: Her statement from Facebook says only Europeans.
You can argue what you like in court but if it is found to be discriminatory she could wind up in jail. Exactly. She has no right to assume what the fellow is going to cook, anyhow. How does she know the European she brings won't be a Dutch guy who once stayed in Port Harcourt and fell in love with native soup There's nothing to argue here, the woman is very stupid. Maybe not even English but a peasant European from some racist country |

OiOi: It's her home and she deserves good health... Although people might want to say it's racism She shouldn't have said it like that...there are ways to reject somebody you don't want to live with for any particular reason. Anyway you can close the door, turn on the extractor fan or open a window when cooking depending on the type of house. It's true that we have very strong smelling foods that may turn her stomach if she's not used to them but there was no need to implicate herself with such a silly comment. |

Gmajor: The most shocking thing about this article is that someone left Gambia and went all the way to London just to study performing arts. What a waste of time and money. The article said he grew up in England. It's his parents who came from Gambia That may be the same thing they said to him when he told them he was going for performing arts, though. We are a bit narrow-minded about these things |

CeterisXVII: Please people should stop calling that smoker, drunkard and paedophile, her husband.
He is NOT. The guy did not pay her bride price and has not married her in any way.
That word ' husband' is what a lot of girls use to deceive and console themselves, when they are in a relationship, that is not heading anywhere.
Anyway, na she sabi. One day, agaracha go enter market, but e no go return....
Let her keep deceiving herself there. Lmao what are you saying na, she said she doesn't need Mrs people wey dey answer Mrs dey facebook dey beg N100 Anyway I agree with her on that one because Mrs is not even her problem right now hahaha Smoking and drinking money that cannot be gathered to pay for daughters school fees, you think it can get to even one small stout on your head? Ifyjos: If my own sister I never listened to her and do u think I will listen to you a stranger from nowhere someone you living another life on social media but reality you are beggar. I don’t regret the way I choose to open up at least I have feel relieved right now
Am not regretting being kicked out of the house , it just proved that am now a grown up so I have to hustle hard for my small family ( my guy and daughter ) and your cheap talk doesn’t bother me . Say whatever you like I don’t care , the time u are wasting following and comment thrush under my post it would have been better if you kneel down asking God for a life partner coz me I’m better I have a lovely caring husband to be and a beautiful princess and u will not when u reached menopose under your papa house and nobody to marry u by then u will know how stupid u were wasting your time chatting shit on someone who has better than you See? You feel relief but was your relief the point? That's what they were trying to tell you but you wouldn't listen. When you came back to report that your family had chased you away I decided to keep quiet because I couldn't honestly congratulate you for making what I thought was a wrong decision. I decided to allow people who told you to confess to advise you well, unfortunately you couldn't even listen to them either! You spent days and weeks planning your sisters demise, instead of you to equally spend days and weeks planning how to solve it intelligently you vomited everything at once and came back to cry and wail about your daughter whom you should have thought about in the first place. If you like you can keep insulting me, it doesn't mean that all I have predicted from the beginning did not come to pass. You are not smart, that's your problem. Wise up! Anyway, let me release you. If yes visit the pastor/Rev to handle this reconciliation. It will take wisdom to resolve this. It may take years for them to forgive you. We told her not to open up like that like that so that she wouldn't be forced to go and live with that guy, she kept replying everybody here that she must confess she is feeling guilty blah blah until she was ejected from her parents house. Where do you want her to go na She has to keep with the guy until she can go home. Or what do you suggest she does...?
