The Indigenous People of Biafra on Thursday asked a former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, to stop making provocative and false statements against the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu- Ojukwu and the civil war.

Gowon had recently in an interview with a private television station said Ojukwu’s lies caused the civil war in the country between 1967 and 1970.

The former Head of State added, “We agreed to put our heads together, to regain the trust and confidence of Nigerians. We went to Aburi, to agree to deal with the situation of our country; by ourselves. We did not go with any prepared position on the federal side, but Ojukwu came with a paper he prepared. His prepared position was on a pink paper. Usually, a pink paper at the staff college means directing staff solution to the problem.”

He alleged that the civil war broke because Ojukwu went on television and gave his account of the Aburi Accord, which was at variance with what was agreed upon; thereby deceiving the people of Biafra to going into war against the Federal Government.

But IPOB in a statement by its Media and Publicity Officer, Emma Powerful, described Gowon’s comment as “ total falsehood from the mouth of a hater.”

The group accused Gowon of having the penchant of distorting history, especially as it concerned the civil war.

The group expressed worry that Gowon, at 83, could lie against the dead (Ojukwu) who could not defend himself in the circumstance.

The statement partly read, “At the ripe old age of 83 and with the little window God has left open to him to repent and show remorse, Yakubu Gowon has chosen to continue to deceive himself with his bouquet of falsehood.

“It was the Labour Party government of Britain that cleverly convinced the Arewa North to put pressure on Gowon to feign illness, thereby making it difficult for him to tell the country what was agreed in Aburi because they were not comfortable with the agreement.

“Today, Gowon, whom we are led to believe is a prayerful Christian, has said he wasn’t able to speak when he returned from Aburi because he was ill. Question is: Was his information minister also ill? Were all government’s spokesmen in Lagos also down with illness at the same time, that made it difficult for Lagos to make a pronouncement on Aburi Agreement several weeks after the meeting?”

The group said Gowon’s attempt to rewrite history would have worked had IPOB not been in existence.

“This day and age, any attempt to rewrite the history of the Biafra-Nigeria war will be intellectually resisted and objectively dismantled. Fake history is at the core of why Nigeria will never be united. Gowon must come clean, apologise and make atonement.

“We are IPOB, we won’t allow distortion of historical facts and neither will we allow the denigration of the revered memory of our all-time hero, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu. He remains, till date, the only man that tried to bring genuine independence, not mere flag independence, to an African nation.”

Awolowo was no match for Zik and Tafawa Balewa. Zik was a stupid leader who could neither learn from history, happenings in the now, and hence lacked sense of direction. The other was just a religious bigot.

The legacies of the trio still speak. What has Zik left for Igbo nation? Confusion. Identity crisis. It is on record that Awolowo suggested a clause of cessation if union of constituent parts of Nigeria didn't work out within 25 years any aggrieved party could go having learned from history how the Fulani jihadist wanted to 'dip the Qur'an into the sea.' The wars Yoruba fought with jihadists in Ilorin, Igbajo etc. Blind Zik refused to see. He, Awo, understood the evil of oligarchy in the north. He opted for opposition. This Yoruba played in his life time until now that SW actively participate in a central government for a purpose not yet realized - restructuring.

Yes, he practised tribal politics. He was a leader, primarily of his people. He was a learned person, one of the few in his time. He saw tomorrow through the eyes of knowledge. He took his own ignorant people from pursuing blind leaders. He embarked on mass literacy campaign. One of attributes of great leadership is foresight and vision.


Zik became the fist president and Balewa the PM.Next two military heads of state were Igbo's l. They wanted Igbo dynasty. Hausa resisted them and have since subdued Igbo's,What followed thereon to Igbo race was an avoidable civil war that killed many innocent Nigerians and decimated Biafrans.



Awo led his own people to be self reliant and focused. He intervened to keep the friendship of Hausa - Igbo alliance alive. The war was won losing many Yoruba's, his own people!

Today, disgruntled, Ill - informed Igbos would write lies about Awo. The would whin woes they befell them to the hears of Awo who should be resting in peace also disturbing on media his people who never for once complained about Zik or Balewa.

What do Igbo's actually want from Awo or Yoruba's? Fight for a directionless people of no known descent? People of not clear identity or direction?

I beg let Awo rest in peace and his people live in peace. Biko.

I think reduction of fees clamoured for by some is not reasonable and unfair. The public schools being run by governments are not adequately funded. Their workers are not paid regularly and commensurately, the reason for strikes, academic corruption, and bad quality of graduates nowadays..

The churches that have universities are to pay their workers and still pay them after retirement. From which source? Thirty thousand Naira? How do these universities match up with the international standard in research work and contributions to frontiers of knowledge?

Needlss to say that these universities as you can see in this write -up is to bring back the standard in morals, self reliance, and learning handed down by the British who primarily came to enlighten our minds.
Now it our time of rebirth, a time to actualise ourselves and join the rest of the world by the dividend of knowledge invested in black race..

You will agree with me that the problem of black race is human beings. People of warped mind in government and leaders of opinion and societies.
