am sure you have no idea that the americans you mentioned has decommisioned their most prominent recon group (long range surveillance-LRS) and merged them to a combat brigade team like stryker brigade. that means that those guys now has a primary role as fire team. although special forces or special operations forces has recon and scout as a secondary role.

secondly you failed to mention that the US has 'tons' of UAVs and drones too.

also you dont realize that why deep scout mission is unfavourable is due to the fact that you cant count on naval or air support or even artillery indirect fire support.

bros calm down about the isreali issue. have you studied the Egyptian military lately? yes I agree that egypt performance on previous conflict with isreal was poor but im sure the relevant lessons has been learnt.

I also noticed that you south africans always highlights experience over other variables in warfare, variables like weapon platforms, training, allies, economy, terrain e.t. although experience gives a nice advantage but personally I rank weapons systems higher than all others.

isreal cannot (emphasis CANNOT) touch egypt in any conflict ever again considering the size of both countries military.

I conpared both countries military and I see isreal woefully lacking in major areas,

(with such naval force,the mediteranian sea battle will be like a turkey shoot)

Also Note that Egypt has the ONLY (EMPHASIS 'ONLY') Recon satellite in the middle east. If anybody in the region sh!ts egypt can tell you the colour from miles away.

although to be fair I'll say isreal has the best air defence cover in all the M.E due to her multiple well staggered anti air missile systems.

the only chance isreal has against egypt is pre-emptive attack which she is good at. and before you lecture me on isreal F-35 please note that not all country seem to agree that its a game changer such country is UK which has pulled out of the program and decides to pursue a naval version of her typhoon jet to put on her new queen elizabeth carrier. UK said that they are not impressed with the trillion dollar piece of scrap metal that THE US is forcing all of them to buy So they aren't buying anymore.

IMO it was foolish becz said the said company could have earned 50-100 times more with india just like other SA companies r doing right now , personally i know 3 SA companies who have multi million deals with india right now all away from public view.

Besides that they were dancing with global giants.

The transfer of tech started before the offer was made to India. They would have made massive profits if they were a western big company.

It was a case of whether the Egyptian army should roll it's tail(logistics) and bring it closer to it's body and secure it's gains or continue the momentum with a longer tail which could expose the main body. For political reasons or pressure the latter was chosen.

From the lessons learned from the Good Friday Ambush in Afghanistan, the Germans have been showing some interest in Denel's retractable RCWS, the Meerkat. Basically, intense fire made it impossible to reload the overhead weapons of their Dingo and Fuchs APCs, removing the ability to support the dismounts. A problem neatly solved by the Meerkat.
The annual SA-Algeria defence industry shindig is coming soon, maybe Denel will pitch the Meerkat for some of your Fuchs.

Hehehe would like to hear 61Mech's opinion on this system deployed in COIN ops.

Think about it, the A-Darter is such a great AA missile, it wouldn't matter where it's launched. It doesn't need a radar so Hawks can sneak in behind a target especially those old MiGs and Sukhoi Su's with older mechanical radars then bang.

The tactics you are referring to here are used by 4th generation fighters.


Typically in missions the Gripens will escort the Hawks.

Again there more helis and transport aircraft than jets on the continent. Intercepting these with the Gripen would be useless.

The idea is to use the Gripen as a target tracker. So a group of Hawks on an offensive would be escorted by a Gripen.

We were unable to complete development of systems offered to them like the T-Darter BVRAAM.

Just like Raptor III Denel dynamics displayed during AAD in 2012. If SAAF can fund the development PAF will likely acquire as an upgrade.

Most of the stuff Denel sells is acquired by the SANDF or highly funded.

We are getting JF-17 multi-role fighters.

Multiple considerations go into buying a defence system, that's not to say one system is inferior to another. It simply means all considerations taken into account, perhaps my interest would be better served if i go for this defence system instead of that.

The Russians have the best ADS, but you don't see the world buying only Russian systems now, do you?

The Iranians showing interest in the South-African system is a good thing, however it is not enough reason to say a different system is inferior or trash. E.g, just like your Mokopa missing a pre-designated, static target at 8km, when it has a 10km effective range on it's brochures.

The S300 is a system.

The Umkhonto will be intergrated into that air defence layered system.
