Politics / Re: Pakistan Offers To Train Nigerian Soldiers by Milito: 1:06pm On Nov 23, 2012
shymexx: ^^^Pakistan Army is arguably one of the best in the world - they build their own training aircraft, have more nuclear warheads than most western countries, have missile building capabilities, and are presently operating about 905 military aircraft... They're far ahead of us...

Their Army is top 10 in the world according to the CIA fact book...

Pakistani army may be superior to the Nigerian army but u guys are just over rating this Pakistani Army. Do u know how many times the Pakistani army has messed up with India & they were given slaps on the head by the Indians.

You guys should should go and read the full account of the different Indo-Pakistani wars & you'd be embarrassed about the flops of this Pakistanis. Even when they had the strategic advantage of surprise they still flopped. And they were even been supported by the United States all these times oh. Just because they were able to develop nuclear weapons almost 20 years after their arch-enemy, India made theirs doesn't make them so so special. Although they are still ahead of the Nigerian army but I don't see us gaining anything meaningful frm these dudes men!
Career / Re: Any HSE Professionals In The House? by Milito: 8:15pm On Oct 29, 2012
diehard: @Milito & Brainwave, The 'E' part of the HSE is still very relevant in Nigeria, But most of the jobs for env'tal specalists are not from the big IOCs. the reason is that the env'tal impact of oil exploration can only be done by independent company sanction by DPR. Even communities are becoming wiser now and are exploying this companies to assess the impact in their community cos the data can be used to sue for damages against this oil companies. I've seen some of this law suit backed by env'tal studies claiming for damages running into billions of naira. and there very few env'tal specialists in nigeria.

i almost forgot this thread is still alive.

@Diehard thank u so much for ur input. I really appreciate it. In order words, if u re an envt specialist, floating an Envt consulting coy will not be bad idea.

Romance / Re: The Ideal Length Of Courtship Before Marriage? by Milito: 12:22pm On Oct 16, 2012
So when does dating actually translates to courtship? cos understanding when courtship actually starts will assist in the assigning of a time frame.
Different people, communities, religions, families, etc hv their own different ideas of wht courtship is & whn it starts.

Well I'v once attended a particular church prog & d church maintained tht courtship only starts when the guys has proposed.

duintes: Excellent thread. You guys have done a great job here. Got on to this thread while researching HSE career prospects and options for a mentee. It appears the focus here is more on Health and Safety. This tends to suggest that the "Environment" aspect of the discipline is still in its infancy in Nigeria or is not very much appreciated.

Also, I suspect a dearth of interest in "Environment" here and hence the near zero information in that area. Associate Certificate in Environmental Management from IEMA and IEMA Diploma might be good value for money for those interested in the the E aspect of HSE. You may wish to visit http://www.iema.net for more details.

I am not a HSE practitioner but it does appear that IEMA certifications are as prestigious as Nebosh and if not more because candidates who have successfully completed the NEBOSH Diploma in Environmental Management after the 1st January 2008 may apply to IEMA for Associate membership. Candidates who completed the course prior to 1st January 2008 are not eligible for this membership level. Refer to NEBOSH website - http://www.nebosh.org.uk/qualifications/diploma/default.asp?cref=74&ct=2

Hope someone finds this useful.

I indeed found this very useful. I have a keen interest in the 'Environment' aspect of HSE, but as u said it seems its not as favoured as the Occupational Health and Safety Aspect.

Brainwave and co. u are really doing a wonderful job on this thread. I actually started reading the thread from when u started it till present time (although i jumped 1 or 2 pages in 2010, lol). And I must confess I am really impressed. Brainwave and the other experienced guys in this field, pls I would like u to shed more light on the quote above. I was actually eager to read a response to this but was disappointed tht no response was given.

As I said earlier, I am more interested in the 'Environment' aspect of HSE. I studied BSc Environmental Biology and MSc Envt Pollution Mangt. But I have been stuck in Customer Service for a reputable company for 2 years plus now but I REALLY want to work in my field as my interest lies there. I have even done NISP Levels 2 and 3 (3yrs ago) and another Occupational Safety and Health certification last year but I'v been unable to move basically due to my lack of experience in this line.

Brainwave pls enlighten me:
- is the Envt aspect of HSE relegated in Nigeria?
- NEBOSH as u said is an expensive investment, is NEBOSH International General Certificate a Plus/value for someone interested mainly in the Envt aspect of HSE?
- whats ur professional opinion btw NEBOSH and IEMA?

Politics / Re: Prospective VP: Atiku Loves The SE Or Merely Pitching The SE Against The SS? by Milito: 2:17am On Nov 29, 2010
Very interesting indeed!
Beware!!
Atiku cannot be trusted. He is a corrupt despirado whose presidency will not bring the desired change in our democracy. Atiku as president will not bear any fruit for the country & SE. He will only engage in political brigandage dt will pale dt of Obj. The VP's slot he is dangling as bait should be assessed in relation to his antecedents.
He cannot be trusted wt power.
Gej/Sambo are cool headed folks albeit not seasoned politicians who can fashion a way for the country.SE would fare better & be in a better bargaining position wt dem. If Atiku is going on wt an Igbo VP, nothing substantiani will come forth again. And d VP is almost useless.
Wake up guys!! Atiku is a cunny fox!!

Politics / Re: More Warships Head For Niger Delta by Milito: 11:42pm On Jul 04, 2008
More ships? I would advise the Federal Government to even purchase or build an aircraft carrier and put it permanently there (if they can afford one). The Niger Delta militants are nothing close to ‘freedom fighters’; they are opportunists and criminals. Their criminality transcends all bounds, ranging from kidnapping, robberies, illegal oil bunkering, arson, sabotage, causing general public unrest, etc. They should not be treated with kid’s glove at all. If they are really freedom fighters they should first go and blow up mansions built by their corrupt leaders that embezzled their allocations.

Although I am of the opinion that it would be senseless for a country to unleash its military on its civilians, still, the use of force by the Federal Government should not be an empty threat. They should send more patrol boats there, helicopters and even reconnaissance planes & helicopters. I believe they should have all these things with the huge budgetary allocation for defence and security.

Likewise, the Federal Government should speed up developmental projects over there. And find a way of reducing environmental problems. But the most important thing is to dislodge and disarm the criminals over there masking as freedom fighters. No meaningful development can take place with the anarchy in that place.

But it is really sad that militants have the means of causing havoc on an important National assest faraway offshore (Bonga). This shows that Nigeria is vunerable to attack. This might even encourage international terrorists to come and attack American and other western countries interest in Nigeria.
