CocoaOla:How will you charge said electric car in Nigeria's with an epileptic power supply? How will you go on journeys without any charging infrastructure available? How will you afford the upfront cost of purchasing an electric vehicle? We are a long way from mass adoption of electric vehicles in Nigeria, assuming that possibility actually exists. |

Qatar2022:I understand what you mean, but Nigeria's socio-capitalism is just a facade that masks wanton corruption. I can tell you that most sectors of the economy are controlled by certain groups of individuals. Why not lay down guidelines on how mining and other extractive activities should be done, give out prospecting rights and collect taxes on minerals extracted. It's that simple, just regulate the industry. You can only imagine the amount of jobs and development this would bring long term. With all the money Nigeria has made from being the sole owner of these extracted raw materials where can feel its effects. |
Qatar2022:Do they? What does government really need? |
How do you expect it to work, do we even have the infrastructure to support such a program. You think you'll keep someone for a month or so and then completely change that person? |
doggedfighter: ![]() Just my thought. I was expecting to see a scrawny frame. |
innobarca:I understand. But if you have it let me know the price so that I'll decide if I can afford it. I want to buy it for the nostalgia, I don't really need it. |
innobarca: |
alausaone:How do you mean? |
innobarca:Please do you still have another like this? |
kpaofame:Yes they've not banned it, but it's heavily regulated in the US. You pay capital gain tax on any BTC you own. And the US mandates that all exchanges that cater to US customers carry out extensive KYC. So, yeah, they've not banned it but they know who owns what. |
AntiNigerian:I'm happy for you. Just be careful. |
justinator:Every transaction is openly available on the blockchain. Most people reuse Bitcoin addresses, this makes it less anonymous. If you check many blockchain explorers you will find out that most exchanges have addresses that are linked to them. Having the powers of a nation state, if you put two and two together you can easily find out who is sending what to who. Even if you try to leave no traces, the person you're sending to might be using an address linked to an exchange. The US can easily get their records and find out who received the money you sent. There will always be traces except if your exchanging your BTC for physical cash and never reusing wallet addresses but even then it's hard to say how safe you are. |
Nigga44:Well, except if you're not bothered about the time it takes include you TX in the next block, most nodes prioritize TXs by the fees attached. You have a point on the inflationary nature of the Naira, but Bitcoin as a store of vale is only for the brave. |
SavageResponse:True, but for a nation state it is negligible. Bitcoin leaves traces to, that's why you have bitcoin mixers that try to anonymize ownership by rinsing coins. It is only then that it becomes difficult but trust me the NSA or CIA or some other three-word US agency already has an algorithm to do just that. In fact, if you google around you might find research papers that show how to do just that. There is no true anonymity on the internet, only pseudo-anonymity. |
GeneralPula:No, banks are not in any problem. Bitcoin has terrible UX. Transaction charges are higher that what you would pay locally at your bank for transfers. Where it shines is in it's decentralization which makes it censorship-resistant -- nobody can block your account or stop you from sending money to anybody. The sad thing is not many people have use for that feature so Nigerian banks are safe, or would you keep your life's saving in BTC? |
Billyonaire666:I think "investing" in bitcoin is gambling. You should use the term "speculate". Ask yourself what is the basis of worth that warrants the price it currently trades at -- what is it's intrinsic value? Many are not as wise and methodical as you think, they end up losing everything because they are over-leveraged and greedy. I think it more or less resembles a pyramid scheme in the current state that it is in. What happens when there is no longer new "investor" money coming in. I just don't get the craze for bitcoin and it might end in tears for many people. |
Queenlovely:Even you? ![]() |
Truth is fiat currency can also be used for illicit purposes. Also note that Bitcoin is not truly anonymous as blockchain transactions can be traced, they include IP and other metadata. With a little time and effort you can unmask both sender and receiver. I think the main issue is censorship and control. The United States needs the Dollar to be de facto world currency for trade so that they can threaten and control other countries by means of sanctions, trade embargoes, etc. They don't control bitcoin and it is a threat to their control and dominance in the international financial market. |
![]() There is something off about the topic of this post. I can't put my finger on it but it just sounds unnecessarily verbose. |
Top of the morning. I would be renewing my passport soon. I checked the immigration site and the field for NIN isn't compulsory, but I've seen posts here saying that it's mandatory although it was in respect to a fresh application. Please I would like to get a definitive, if possible from someone whom has done theirs recently. |
damoceile:Shouldn't be more than ₦2,000. I did mine at a government hospital for less than that. Plus they laminate it for you. |
White Knight Syndrome. ![]() What makes you think you can save her? Be careful with humans -- male and female -- especially Nigerians. |
Nigeria, we are good at "fixing" symptoms and ignoring the root cause. |
Multi-taxation in this country is getting out of hand. Maybe reduce import tax on vehicles then. |
juniorstar:Reading the comments on this post you'll just see how simple-minded some of these folks are. Because I'm a Public Servant doesn't mean I should leave in penury. With financial planing, discipline and prudent investments one can really go far. I actually saw a true example in a senior colleague at work. His pay is about 1.2 million but guess how much he takes home? Just around 300k, after the cooperative society takes 500k, NHF contributions, tax, etc take the rest. When I saw his investment portfolio I was wowed. Massive portfolio of Nigerian stocks and real estate across the country. And he lives modestly. People won't see that there's a method riches, to them every rich person is a thief or a ritualist. You can never hate rich people and expect to be rich, learn their methods. |
Wolfeye:Lol. Take your bitterness somewhere else. They don't have any dirt on her. Do you know her family, her business or any inheritance she came by? Use your high IQ to get out of poverty not venting your frustration and pulling at straws. |
Mikester:Forgiveness does not mean forgetting, nor does it mean condoning or excusing offenses. In my opinion, there is no such thing as forgiving to early. Forgiveness gives your peace of mind, having pent up resentment and hatred towards someone gives them too much control over your life -- they determine your happiness. Forgive but don't give that opportunity to be wronged again. |
Wolfeye:Like I said the onus is on them to prove it. Stop spinning castles in the air. I know people who are in the civil service and are millionaires and still some in higher positions that are living paycheck to paycheck even while earning millions. It depends on who fortune favors and how you plan your life. Stop hating, go and make your own money. |
Lexusgs430:I'm not supporting evil, I'm not saying it's right. In my opinion, if you're laying an accusation on someone you need to get your facts straight. I can easily explain how she could afford expensive property, what I'm saying is that the allegations don't really have weight. With such salary one can easily make investments in Nigeria or abroad that could return more than the value of the purported property. And mind you, she might have been a judge for some 15+ years |
