bigtt76: Naija shaaaa. When it comes to voting a muslim as president, we go come out with all the excuses… sharia, extremisim etc but when its time to spend money or relax we run to their headquarters isn't that double standard ? The problem with Buhari is not his religion as much as it is his ideas and track record. Prior to these most recent elections he put his name to the push for Sharia and no other issue. He came out in defence of Boko Haram. He refused to admit that Abacha was corrupt. He refused to concede defeat in 2011 thus causing riots that lead to hundreds of deaths. His manifesto was a joke, this was apparent to anyone reasonable. He has since spent the past month rescinding every promise he made to Nigerians before the election. Fashola is also a Muslim, no one has an issue with him because of his religion. Ideas and implementation matter. |

Nah so una dey mislead people. UAE is ruled under Sharia. Nite
1. Kissing in public is strictly illegal and can result in deportation. 2. Homosexuality is illegal and is punishable by the death penalty. 3. Non-Muslims are allowed to consume alcohol in licensed venues, typically within hotels, or at home with the possession of an alcohol license. 4. Restaurants outside hotels in Dubai are typically not permitted to sell alcohol. 5. The Islamic dress code is not compulsory, but prohibitions on wearing "indecent clothing" or revealing too much skin are aspects of the UAE to which Dubai's visitors are expected to conform, and are encoded in Dubai's criminal law. 6. The UAE has enforced anti-indecency prohibitions in all public places (aside from beaches, clubs, and bars). 7. Posters and handouts in Dubai's malls inform visitors of the official dress code. At Dubai's malls, shoulders and knees should be covered and wearing sleeveless tops and shorts are discouraged. Is this not haram? Unwed mother, minmal clothes, kissing her boyfriend. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1263683/Pregnant-Danielle-Lloyd-embraces-Jamie-OHara-Dubai.html |

If those laws were strictly enforced do you think that Westerners would be flocking there? Those laws might well be on the books but there is an element of hypocrisy involved - where else are people going to be fraternizing and drinking if not in bars and hotels? Are you seriously telling me that you don't see people (Westerners in particular) walking around in very short skirts and shorts or very tight clothing? You've never seen men and women kiss in public in Dubai? These laws might well be on the books but if they were strictly enforced most people would not go there. |

Dubai is not the norm for a Muslim country. They have opened up because they do not have a great deal of oil and need other revenue streams. It might be a Muslim country in name but people drink alcohol, men and women fraternize and usury is accepted. As for the HQ of Islam - that would be Mecca (a place where women cannot drive or seek employment without the permission of their male relatives), not Dubai. |

Whynotthetruth: Did you not hear the man too talk about his court cases against this anomaly? Where you not in Nigeria to see what played out with derivation for oil and restructuring in confab? Because of the manner in which things have been structured in Nigeria it has become exceedingly difficult for progressive policies to be pushed through. Meanwhile, Sharia law was passed almost immediately after the restoration of democracy. If the nation as a whole cannot be made to function in a reasonable manner then the nation should be divided in two - let the progressive peoples go their own way. |

If you think that any of these awards go to people that help others then you are naive.
These are the same academic institutions that employ the policy makers that have caused economic chaos and environmental destruction the world over.
NOI is in good company if she is what the author of this letter claims that she is.
P.S. Most economists are 'text book economists' - the economists who presided over the worst global economic crisis of the post-war era were somehow unable to foresee that there would be a downturn to match the climb. Gordon Brown in the UK even proclaimed that they had put paid to the era of 'boom and bust'. The people teaching and the people learning economics are equally as clueless. |
