akereconfi:Those pics are not even in Kenya. So many liars in this thread. |
NigeriaLite:Why lie? Which Kenyan city has a tram system? That is an American tram. That second train is in the UK. Why can't you people argue facts? Why do you have to make up lies? |
Anyone calling for these women to be coerced into giving birth to such children has probably completely missed the causes of the Boko Haram insurgency. |
AnanseK:A cloth dealer, Cyprian Edundu, 38, has been arrested by the police for allegedly raping a nine -year-old girl. That man was arrested for rape. That man was arrested for rape. That man was arrested for rape. Will Mr Ahmad Sani Yerima be arrested for what he has done to several young girls? I had to make sure that you get the point because clearly you are not particularly intelligent. That is the point I have been making. This man's acts are condemned. No one is calling for his actions to be held as legal. The idiot in the Facebook message is advocating child rape, you appear to be defending him. You have serious issues with reading comprehension. |
KingTom:Northern Nigeria is already plagued by masses of unwanted, uncared for children - you want to add to that number? |
AnanseK:If I have said something false then show me what it is wrong and show me the facts. Malnutrition and polio are not ailments commiserate with a progressive society. There is no excuse for either in 2015. |
Lagos is the commercial capital of West Africa and has been for over 100 years. What sense does it make to compare it to a state that wasn't even on the map 30 years ago? They've both done good but Lagos has been able to rely on the private sector owing to the fact that it is the commercial capital for the sub-region if not the entire continent. That has nothing to do with Fashola/Tinubu. This is a silly comparison. If you want to compare Lagos to another state then that state should Kano, both are old commercial hubs with large populations. P.S. I've just seen that the OP claims that the murder rate in AKS is the highest in Nigeria. Clearly this person (the OP) is a fool, there's a region of this country that faces suicide bombings and school massacres. There's another region that is plagued by herdsmen who kill daily. |
AnanseK:They are unique in the rate of occurance in progressive societies. Only three nations on earth still battle with polio - Afghanistan, Pakistan and (northern) Nigeria. Illiteracy at the rates seen in northern Nigeria are only found in other backwards societies. Fistula at the rates found in northern Nigeria are only found in other backwards societies that refuse to deal with the issue of child marriage/rape. Malnutrition is an inexcusable scourge in 2015, a true sign of failure and common in parts of northern Nigeria. |
AnanseK:Those issues of criminality are a problem in every society. What is unique is fistula, polio, illiteracy and malnutrition. Those are inexcusable in 2015. Only the most backwards of societies suffer such ailments. |
AnanseK:It's not where you begin that matters, it is where you end up. If you are still battling polio in 2015. Fistula in 2015. Mass illiteracy in 2015. Malnutrition in 2015. Then you are a failed entity. |
AnanseK:Rape is a criminal offence in the south. Statutory rape is not recognised in the north, a grown man can defile a girl of 10 and then marry her as if there were no crime. That is the difference. Your reasoning skills are appalling. |
iterator24:This is not oil money that can be divided and given to those that do not deserve it. State governments should do what they can to make their states more attractive for business. |
It's called 'cultural appropriation'. Better known as theft by way of lies. |
AnanseK:This is about statutory rape, not polygamy - two very different issues. Only the north has a problem with the Child Rights Act. Fistula rates are far higher in the north as a result as are rates of maternal/infant mortality. The fact is that girls in northern Nigeria are treated like chattel, sold into marriage by their irresponsible parents. P.S. You gave list of nations that have an age of consent below the age of 18, that is very different from the marriageable age which is 18 in most nations. |
That's a good looking script. |
AnanseK:Why do you keep jumping on practices that are widely condemned to use by comparison? We hear about these baby factories because the police investigate them as the people report them in disgust. These are people readily identified as criminals, no one is defending their practices. Comparing a judicially sanctioned act with a culturally accepted yet barbaric practice is nonsensical. Child marriage is sanctioned by the religious authorities in the north and is never condemned by the big political actors in that region. You keep repeating nonsense as if you have a point to make, the truth is you do not. |
free2ryhme:He probably 'knows' his younger sister very well. |
deflover:Child marriage is nowhere near as common in the south and you will not find girls of 10 being 'married'. No right-minded parent would allow their child to marry before completing their education. There is no comparison to be made of what happens in the south with what happens in the north in this regard. Religion is always a barrier to enlightenment. |
AnanseK:Molestation of girls is not legal and no one speaks in defense of such a disgusting practice. Is anyone arguing that child molestation is 'cultural'? It's an unfortunate activity that happens in every nation on the planet, most people are disgusted by it. Can the same be said for child marriage in the north? At least when it comes to child molestation those people are punished when discovered. What happens to Mr. Ahmad Sani Yerima when he marries a child and then discards her a year later? |
deflover:That it is outlawed is a sign that it is recognized as being detestable. No one in the south is calling for the law to be repealed. Is it any surprise that the same states that refuse to outlaw child marriage also have the highest poverty and illiteracy rates. They are also one of the few places on earth that still battles polio. I hope that they remain proud of their retrograde customs. |
deflover:Child marriage WAS in every culture. Most societies have progressed beyond such a destructive practice. It is outlawed in every southern state but 12 northern states refuse to sign the Child Rights Act into law. Why is that? |
mcquin:Shaking hands is nothing. I'm sure when he went to the UK he was shaking hands with whoever was put in front of him, including women. I'm glad that his wife has come and spoken out against one of a number of barbaric practices that some people elect to cling to but it's interesting that she was speaking to an international audience. Why did she not give that same speech in northern Nigeria where it really needs to be heard? |
mcquin:Buhari has never come out against these barbaric practices before, why would you think he would do so now? Before the recent elections the only issues that he made noise about were Sharia law and that the Federal government should not use force to deal with Boko Haram. It's a pity that some people cannot see how destructive some of these 'cultural' habits are. |
Jonathan Edwards: 'Having left his sport as a dyed-in-the-wool evangelical, Edwards is now, to all intents and purposes, an atheist.' '"Once you start asking yourself questions like, 'How do I really know there is a God?' you are already on the path to unbelief," Edwards says. "During my documentary on St Paul, some experts raised the possibility that his spectacular conversion on the road to Damascus might have been caused by an epileptic fit. It made me realise that I had taken things for granted that were taught to me as a child without subjecting them to any kind of analysis. When you think about it rationally, it does seem incredibly improbable that there is a God."' The upheaval of recent months has not left Edwards emotionally scarred, at least not visibly. "I am not unhappy about the fact that there might not be a God," he says. "I don't feel that my life has a big, gaping hole in it. In some ways I feel more human than I ever have. There is more reality in my existence than when I was full-on as a believer. [1] "If there is no God, does that mean that life has no purpose? Does it mean that personal existence ends at death? They are thoughts that do my head in. One thing that I can say, however, is that even if I am unable to discover some fundamental purpose to life, this will not give me a reason to return to Christianity. Just because something is unpalatable does not mean that it is not true." |
aresa:You made a (false) claim, one of many. I've simply asked you to name the governors that you said were building these hospitals. Instead of you doing so you prefer to throw petty insults. |
yummylookintoks:They pick the most shocking. This is shocking because it's so clearly false. Why have they picked up this rehashed story a year later? An internet search shows that this story was reported last year. When have Nigerian news outlets ever been shy of printing gory and unpleasant pictures? Why are there no images of the reported severed heads? Of the human meat? Why was the patron not named? Why was the owner of the restaurant not named? Why was the police office left anonymous? When did Nigerian news outlets suddenly become so secretive? |
aresa:You said that there are governors building good hospitals outside of AKS in Nigeria (I already mentioned Summit Hills, you can't have that one). So where are they? Which governors? Why can you not back up your claim with names and facts? |
Writeditor:The Nigerian press are generally very uncouth to the point where they will display pictures of dead bodies on the front page and will list the names of minors when reporting. This story has no pictures of the severed heads, no pictures of the meat, the restaurant is unnamed, proprietor is unnamed, anonymous patron, anonymous police officer and all this took place in an unspecified town in Anambra. Why would PUNCH behave so coyly all of a sudden? If they had proof of this tale it would be all throughout their 'newspaper'. |
aresa:Where are these other governors that you spoke of? Who is building hospitals to a high standard? Where are these hospitals? |
yummylookintoks:It's all over the UK/US news with no credible sources. No names, no dates, no location. How is that a reliable source of information? A basic journalistic requirement is that the reporter should explain, who? where? what? and why? This story has been recycled without any of these. It's clearly a fake story, only a fool would fail to see this. Also, if you are not aware as of yet - Western media loves nothing more than to portray Nigeria as a terrible place. |
aresa:A plan has been laid out for anyone who has a genuine interest in what is being done - Akpabio has established a track record of doing what he has said would be done. Why don't you name those governors that you were talking about? Which states are they governors of? |
Writeditor:Did you read what PUNCH wrote? Clearly not. The police would not need to respond if PUNCH did not report a lie to begin with. |
