johnfarida2011: That was how one person here on Nairaland was saying that the criticism on Maduka is because he is Igbo. Is Carl Ikeme not Igbo? And is he not very much loved and adored here in Nigeria? Don't we love Iheanacho? Don't we still adore Okocha, Kanu, and many of our other legends who are Igbos?
They want to destroy our biggest unifying factor.
It is our duty as Nigerians to ensure that tribalism is never brought near our Super Eagles. Carl Ikeme is not Igbo. Nobody was talking about Sadiq, everyone was complaining about Ighalo, Moses and Onazi. None of whom are from the north. |

Nigerians think that anything besides extreme depravity and abuse is 'spoiling' a child. There are people who genuinely believe that beating a child is right but when those people who were abused as children go on to abuse their power as adults (as most Nigerian leaders do) Nigerians are somehow confused as to why a person would behave in that manner. This is the last place I would come to for parenting advice. |

I see this every day. Someone walking down the street gets hit by a car - "why were you walking down the street?" Someone whose house gets burgled - "why are you living in a house?" Someone whose card gets swallowed by an ATM - "why are you using ATM?" The way some of you people reason is a sight to behold. It is truly tragic. |

ugonology: China is not only 'a developing country' she is also the world's second largest economy. You keep mentioning Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, China...how many of them subsidies fuel importation? Oga, if subsidies are meant for economic growth and expansion like in all the countries you listed, then it is given to producers and manufacturers not importers whose activities have no positive impact on the economy like in our case of petroleum imports. If government gives subsidies to dangote refineries, it's completely different from when NNPC spend trillions importing refined petrol!! My last paragraph covers that point. Nigerian government policy is foolish because Nigerians themselves are illogical. |
Politics › Re: Subsidy May Jump By 100% As FG’s Benchmark Oil Price Doubles by mmsen: 6:41pm On Mar 06, 2022 |
ugonology: No sir, infact subsidies are meant for developed nations, not third world poverty stricken countries with overburden debt profiles, countries that spend more than half their revenue servicing debt! Haba, where do we get the money from? Nigeria that is still struggling to construct bridges. These countries you mentioned have enough to spare, their systems are efficient, tax recovery is near 100%, how many people pay tax in Nigeria? China is not a 'developed' nation. Education is subsidized in most countries, especially those with 100% literacy rates. All that cheap rice that Thailand exports, you think it isn't subsidized? Malaysia doesn't subsidize its agricultural output? You think Vietnam does not provide subsidies for its manufacturing? You are naive if you fail to understand that subsidies/public funds are used to build economies. Nigeria's debt profile isn't anywhere near as high as the above nations. As to where Nigerians will get the money? Well, you people subsidize religion hence why at least 3 of the top ten wealthiest pentacostal pastors are Nigeria. As well as sponsoring religious travel. Maybe if the Nigerian government prioritized things that matter then you might get better results but then the government is only a reflection of the populace and Nigerians are stupendously superstitious. You cannot expect the Nigerian government at any level to be rational when the people are so horrendously irrational. Fix that most basic issue first and then you might see some results. |
Politics › Re: Subsidy May Jump By 100% As FG’s Benchmark Oil Price Doubles by mmsen: 6:10pm On Mar 06, 2022 |
ugonology: This is what you get when you try to run a country like a poultry farm, Where government provides subsidies on everything from petrol, education, agriculture to power generation and distribution to health care.
Subsidy is the reason why ASUU will always go on strike (students can't be paying 80$ per section and you expect government to handle the rest) socialist government structures like subsidies will always spell doom for any growing economy, look at Syria and Venezuela. 90% of Nigeria's problem is tied to the senseless spendings on 'hypocritical' subsidies that eventually get looted by the high and mighty. Until we tell ourselves the truth, we will continue to suffer needlessly. America and the EU subsidize their farmers/farm products. This is why it's so easy for them both to dump their agricultural produce on the rest of the world. China subsidizes damn near its entire economy. Hence why it's so easy for them to crush businesses elsewhere. The entire 'capitalist' system is built on 'subsidies'. |

Michelle70: Jonathan in time of plenty was wasteful.
As a business man, I know that the time of plenty is the time to plan for the future.
Nigeria case is lack of progressive leaders and tribalistic youths. Lagos is what it is because of leaders that plan for the future. look at China, when they were busy producing China phones, we make mockery of them that there products doesn't last, but today I am typing this with China phone and u are probably reading with Chinese phone.
2moro, ur children will still blame govt while ur voursemates could be millionaires Nigeria has never had 'plenty' because the population doubles every 25 years in a country with serious infrastructure deficits across the board. Nigeria bragging about savings is like a man with ten children boasting about how he as 100k USD in his account, meanwhile he has no house, no clothes, his wife is naked and seven of his children have never seen a school classroom. |
