PoliticsRe: Western Style Democracy: Really The Answer For Africa? by Moonstone(f): 8:55pm On Feb 19, 2009
lucabrasi:
the point im trying to make with all my preamble is simply that,if the focus is on practicing democracy the way it should be,we wouldnt have all these issues, and advocating for an alternative form of democracy when we have not been sucessful in one we have been grappling with for well over 40 years is a recipe for disaster, a country like cuba can have a referendum or whatever to argue for an against communism, even venezuela to an extent because they have had some form of sucess in the form of governance they r using
Do you realize that Nigeria has not had a stable form of government for the longest time? It is hard to start talking about Western style democracy working for us when we have not had a stable form of government. This alternation between military and civilian rule has screwed us up enough. What we need to do now is to be adapted to the way of life we've been pushed to. Practicing democracy the way it should be practised is hard because we have been too unstable in those regards.
What we need to do is stop copying the US, UK and other developed countries and find a way to make this particular rule last. I see us returning to a Military rule once again and I am convinced that it will destroy the country because we would revert back to democracy after our president dies. We can't succeed until we find out how to keep this form of governance in power. We can't continually compare ourselves to non-African countries. It just won't work. No continent has had to deal with the amount of trauma that we as a continent has been through.

Where's Kobojunkie for this one?

He dismissed them because they wanted to go on strike? So policemen don't have rights again or what? How won't they be looking for bribes? Their voices are not heard now! Now who do we blame for the bribe issue again?

don't want to sound cocky or anything, but maybe we'll use a dustbin as our goalkeeper for premiership teams, because the way our defence has been standing out lately,no one can get a shot on target at us.

Oh please, feel free to be as cocky as you want. Our guys earned us bragging rights. I just need to see one more Arsenal fan come here and start shouting about 49 unbeaten. Na 49 unbeaten we go chop? Hisssssssssss! No trophy to show for it. cheesy cheesy cheesy

I loved the way, they played today. Made me proud. Upon the fact that they cancelled 2 goals, we still defeated them quite easily for my expectations. It was nice to put on my red today. cheesy cheesy

Apart from the fact that we defeated Orlando painfully. 117 - 85 is not a joke when Howard actually played the entire time. I am soooooooooooooooo happy that Chandler's trade was rescinded today! I am the happiest NBA fan ever.

SHENANIGAN:
My dear J- Girl that's Nigeria for you, in Nigeria even the local government chairman has police escort with siren. Even the chief of my village who used to be a head master in a primary school now has police escort with siren.
Exactly, which is why I said it should be regulated. Very soon every car will have sirens and what will happen? Would it now become music to our ears? Would every car now drive with a siren? That's outrageous.

SHENANIGAN:

I don't see what's wrong with the Gov's wife using siren, she travels with a lot of aids and officials from different departments, and if she is attending an event it's just right they all arrive at the same time. Try driving in the streets of Nigeria in a convey with no siren or police escort and see if all members of that convoy arrive at the same time.
So because the Gov's wife is leaving the house, she should carry the sirens with her? Should everyone start using sirens now? It's pointless. . . no doubt.

SHENANIGAN:
@ moonstone,

Sarap there tongue wink You must not have visited Nigeria in a very long time. In Nigeria everybody can have sirens, even the Igbo traders can now hire escort with siren. What happened to the kid that was run over is a very tragic and horrific event, but it was an accident and could have happened to anyone siren or no siren. I just pray the kid did not suffer too much before he passed away and that his family will be very well compensated by the Government.
First and foremost, who are you?

Secondly, I go to Nigeria all the time. That is why I'm saying they need to regulate the use of sirens. Fashola is doing something about that in lagos. Other states could learn about it. It could have happened to anyone but it happened to the Gov's wife's convoy. We all know how the sirens bully people and make them move out of the way for no reason while they drive dangerously. They need to be more careful and actually use the sirens responsibly.

No amount of compensation can bring back the young teenager. Your Child or Money? Which would you choose?

PoliticsRe: Gov’s Wife’s Convoy Crushes Boy To Death! by Moonstone(f): 1:12am On Feb 19, 2009
This is sad. I think Sirens need to be banned except in cases of emergency. I don't care what kind of hurry one is in, there is no excuse for crushing anyone or even hitting anyone. This is the height of barbarianism. I don't even know who should be blamed more, the driver or the Gov's wife. Carrying such pointless convoys is like a man crying wolf. If there is really an emergency, people won't take these things serious. They should monitor how sirens are used in Nigeria.

That poor boy did not deserve to die. Just for this, I want to know where the Gov's wife was going.

My sista I nor blame you jare. When I saw the trade I was like is it just me or does this look like a raw deal for the Hornets? Last season Chandler's inside presence gave the Celtics a tough time, he and CP3 along with West terrorised other teams with their combination. Besides "cap space" I don't see how this helps the team.
Na wa o! Don't worry. Let them bury themselves before their time. It was by luck they won yesterday with 2 seconds left. I really hope they can adjust quite quickly before they meet those yeye Mavs on March 5.  cheesy cheesy cheesy
I think Houston should just give up and trade these guys i mean whats the point of having players who you know fully well at the start of the season that they would not make it to the finish line heck even when both T-Mac and Yao where fit they still couldn't take the Rockets past the first round of the playoffs so whats the point in keeping them?
Lol it means if we ever meet y'all in the playoffs there is actually hope of my Mavs triumphing lol we are tired of losing to your Hornets damn i can remember the good old days when we had double digit winning streaks against y'all  cheesy cheesy

Magic vs Hornets
Mavs vs Nets

May the better teams win
I agree. Houston should just pack it in and let Utah, Phoenix and Dallas stay there. Yao will soon get injured again. It's only a matter of time and it was not until the All-starz game that I saw how useless Yao Ming really is. Rockets make him look so good. Even Shaq did a marvelous job compared to that Ming. I guess you need to have skills, not just height.

If you meet us in the playoffs, I hope we destroy you as much as we did last time. There's a second time for these things, lol. I hope Hornets have a very narrow difference. I can't hope they win cos I know what they are going through. As for Mavs and Nets, I think they have saddened A-40 enough. [s]However, because there is a slight chance that we might lose drastically, I am hoping that Mavs fall short by one point so they won't overtake us again.[/s]  lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed

oh shit, the Bulls made a move

Bulls - John salmons and brad miller

kings - Gooden and nocioni, cedric simmons and michael ruffin

good trade for us, ben Gordon goes to the bench where he belongs.

In a second potential deal with the Timberwolves, the Bulls would send Kirk Hinrich (who is scheduled to make $26.5 million over the next three seasons) for the expiring salary of 7-foot center Jason Collins and another unknown piece, possibly Brian Cardinal. This trade clearly would be a salary dump.

poor Captain kirk, Derrick rose put an end to that career sharp sharp.

come 2010, Dwayne wade signs and gbam we are a contender grin

PoliticsRe: Can A Nigeria Police Refuse Bribe? by Moonstone(f): 6:11pm On Feb 18, 2009
Kobojunkie:
So if a cop does not ask for bribe but does his job and lets me go, what should I blame it on?
If he does not ask for bribe? or if he asks for a bribe?
If he lets you go and you don't give him a bribe, it's a thing of individuality of situation at that point. The Government should be blamed for such low salaries and blatant disregard for the cops. If the cop on his own decides not to go for a bribe, some people end up "dashing" them money anyways. Some people do recognize that there are other ways to go about getting money but most of them act like that because of greed and they see it as the only option to keeping themselves afloat.

So If I get bullied and beaten by a cop, it is government’s fault. What if I don’t get bullied at all, what do I blame it on?
If you don't get bullied at all, why would you blame someone for that? If you don't get bullied, praise the cop's personality.
PoliticsRe: Western Style Democracy: Really The Answer For Africa? by Moonstone(f): 5:57pm On Feb 18, 2009
The one thing I've learnt is that Western-style anything will never work for Africa unless Africa reaches the stages of the Western world right now. Africa now is the Western world 200 years ago. We are backwards and we need to work on our own progression. To have another style of democracy mixed with all the tribal conflict will not and cannot work. You can't use aspirin to treat typhoid. . . we have to figure out how to make our democracy work for us and how it can catapult us to the Western level first (No curse, this is not going to happen anytime soon). When you have similar worlds, you can then employ their method of democracy.

Kobojunkie:
We All know the origin of the problem in Nigeria, THE NIGERIAN PEOPLE who allowed all this to happen in the first place and continue even 10 years after official starting of  a democracy ( Government for the people by the people).

If they should be held accountable TO SOME EXTENT are you saying when a person is killed for not paying bribe ( even though this does not happen often), the cop should not be given full punishment for the crime?
I agree that Nigerian People should be blamed for this.

If a cop kills a person who does not pay bribe, that's taking it too far now. It is no longer just murder, it's now murder and extortion. If a cop is asking for bribe - I'm saying you should blame it on the fact that he's living on a very low salary with the Government paying little to no attention to him as an individual. If that cop decides to take it to another level such are murder or assault, it's now a personal issue pertaining to just him. Majority of the policemen ask for bribes but very few of them kill or beat one up because of it. They might give you a tough time and all but they usually don't go as far as killing or beating.
PoliticsRe: Beware: Global Economic Crisis Will Last 7 Years - Adeboye by Moonstone(f): 5:47pm On Feb 18, 2009
I think these are strong words that should be taken seriously irrespective of anyone's beliefs. For those who don't believe it, they should start saving up for the thunderstorms ahead. For those who believe it, they should just pray they are not included in these events. I know messages like this tend to wind people up the wrong way. Pastor Adeboye is one of the most respected men of God in the country and he has made a lot of predictions in the past which have come true. I think believing him would work in the interest of those who know what he has said in the past and how the results have turned out.

Is this the story you are willing to FEED the next family that loosesa son/daughter/mother/ father/ cousin? Is this really what you will tell them for reason why you do not believe these policemen are to be held accountable for their actions?
It is not a story. It is the fact. I am not saying all the blame should be placed on the govt. Like you rightly said, some are good. All I'm saying is that we should trace the origin of this rubbish. Policemen should be held accountable to some extent but majority of the fault is the Govt's.
PoliticsRe: Can A Nigeria Police Refuse Bribe? by Moonstone(f): 2:07pm On Feb 18, 2009
Kobojunkie:
Even when their pay was ok back some years ago, they still collected bribe. You blame the government for a man's continued choice to be dishonest when you are willing to admit that there are those amongst them who choose not to be? Come on!!! If the police pay is not good for you why not protest or find you something else to do rather than harrass and take out your anger on those in public? I am sorry, these excuses are not cutting it. Yes, the government s bad but if they are not willing to protest/walk off/fight to change things, are you telling me that the members of the public who are bullied by these men are just casualties and nothing more?
Why have 5 kids on a salary you know can not cut it?
I blame the government because the corruption in those high ranks trickle down to the lowest levels. If the government was not so corrupt, would the policemen be earning so little? The thing about it is that we all know that money is going to the Judicial levels and we see it because the IGs and AIGs are busy racking up serious amount of millions and building ridiculous houses everywhere. If the police pay is not good and you know there is so much underemployment, would you rather stay and be earning a little money or would you leave your job in search of another job you may never find? They make do with what they have because that is their only choice. Labour unions especially those of Teachers are the only group of people who walk off and get result. As bad as Nigeria is with Armed robbery and kidnapping, you want them to walk off? Anyway, it's not like they are that useful in that respect. Members of the public bribe their ways through everything including college and even work applications. If they can do that, why must we only shout about one segment. Nigerian policemen are not the only ones collecting bribes and this shows that there is something wrong with the system in the country.
You know how people are with family planning. . . some of them don't even know how to use condoms and they rack babies up thinking it was supposed to be that way.
