kokorokoman: funny, being a senator representing just few local govts in your state is no where near being a minister. And for you to say it is foolish sounds foolish to me, because how would you think you know better than a man that has been a politician for years, a man that has political advisers, aides? Senator is elected, and cannot be sacked the executive but can only be recalled by his constitutents. While Minister is an appointment and can be sacked by the executive at anytime. |
Politics › Sit-at-home: Ekpa Writes EU, US, Demands Visa Ban On Gov Mbah by Morbeta11(op): 10:29am On Jul 27, 2023 |
Finland-based Pro-Biafra agitator, Simon Ekpa, has written to the European Union and the United States of America over alleged human rights abuses carried out by Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State.
Three people were killed on Wednesday when traders took to the streets to protest the sealing of their shops by the state government for not opening for business on Monday.
Ekpa, in a letter written to the international community afterwards however demanded a visa ban on Mbah for violating the citizens’ fundamental human rights.
He added that the Enugu State government confiscated and arrested people in the state without recourse to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The letter read, “We wish to bring to your notice the gross violation and fundamental human rights abuses of the people of Enugu State, Biafra (in Southeast Nigeria) by Peter Mbah, the governor of Enugu State.
“Peter Mbah is confiscating and locking up people’s businesses and means of sustenance without recourse to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria or any chatter, treaty or convention known anywhere in the civilized world, thereby denying the people of Enugu State the right to personal property and free enterprise.
“We request that you impose a visa ban on Governor Peter Mbah and add him to the list of terrorists and haters of freedom and democracy in Nigeria.” https://punchng.com/sit-at-home-ekpa-writes-eu-us-demands-visa-ban-on-gov-mbah/

festacman: Natural to support your dad but look Seyi, so far, there is little evidence to show that President Tinubu is the one that will change Nigeria.
The truth is that the damage, which President Tinubu's tax BURDEN and sudden removal of vital subsidies has done the disposable income of Nigerians will take a long time to be undone. Middle class has been knocked down the ladder. Nigerians are suffocating under the poverty canopy.
Strangely, apart from taxes imposed and subsidies removed to free up money for his government's use, President Tinubu, so far, has done nothing in terms of program to improve the real growth of the economy. Nothing!
Meanwhile, while subsidies for common man are removed, the humongous rogue pension package for Tinubu and other greedy ex-governors remain UNREMOVED. Brilliant comment. |

Jobs/Vacancies › Netherlands, Lagos Sign Mou To Create 4,000 Jobs by Morbeta11(op): 7:18am On Jul 27, 2023 |
Lagos State Government and the Kingdom of Netherlands, yesterday, signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, to create 4,000 jobs in waste management in the state.
The MoU was signed at Africa’s first edition of Circular Economy, in partnership with African Circular Economy Network, ACEN, and the Circular Economy Innovation Partnership, CEIP, supported by the Netherlands.
described the summit as “a pragmatic approach and a fundamental tool” to address global crises such as pollution, climate change and loss of biodiversity.
Sanwo-Olu said: “To sustain a resilient socio-economic development for Lagos, there is a need to create a model of production and consumption which involves sharing, leasing, re-using, repairing, refurbishing and recycling existing materials and products as many times and for as long as possible.
“We will create more jobs about 4,000 and make Lagos even a greater Mega City.
“I strongly believe that the current geo-socio-political climate gives us even more reason to re-evaluate the resilience of our value chains, eliminate waste and pollution, circulate products and materials (at their highest value), and regenerate nature.
“This event is coming at no better time, especially as the nation continues the process to free up its limited resources and optimally channel them towards addressing the different socio-economic needs of the citizens.”
“Our administration’s commitment to promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth through the encouragement of sustainable consumption and production patterns cannot be overemphasized.
“The Lagos Circular Economy Hotspot 2023 is of utmost importance, not only for Lagos and Nigeria but for the entire sub-Saharan Africa.” https://www.vanguardngr.com/2023/07/netherlands-lagos-sign-mou-to-create-4000-jobs/

Foreign Affairs › President’s Residence Sealed Off In Coup-prone Niger by Morbeta11(op): 1:17pm On Jul 26, 2023 |
President’s Residence Sealed Off In Coup-Prone Niger
The landlocked West African state is one of the most coup-prone nations in the world, experiencing four since independence from France in 1960 as well as numerous attempted coups.
Access to the residence and offices of Niger President Mohamed Bazoum was blocked off Wednesday by members of the elite Presidential Guard, a source close to Bazoum said, although the reason was unclear.
The landlocked West African state is one of the most unstable nations in the world, experiencing four coups since independence from France in 1960 as well as numerous other attempts on power.
Access was sealed off both to Bazoum’s official home and offices in the presidential complex in Niamey, although there was no abnormal military deployment or sounds of gunfire in the area, and traffic was normal, an AFP journalist saw.
Bazoum, who was democratically elected in 2021, is a close ally of France.
The country’s last coup occurred in February 2010, overthrowing then president Mamadou Tandja.
However, there was an attempted putsch on March 31, 2021, just two days before Bazoum’s inauguration, according to a security source at the time.
Several people were arrested, including the suspected ringleader, an air force captain named Sani Gourouza.
He was arrested in neighbouring Benin and handed over to the Niger authorities.
Ousmane Cisse, a former interior minister under a military government of transition that ran from 2010-2011, was later detained for his suspected role in the attempted coup.
A second bid to oust Bazoum occurred in March this year “while the president… was in Turkey,” according to a Niger official, who said an arrest was made.
The authorities have never commented publicly on the incident.
In January 2018, nine soldiers and a civilian were sentenced by a military court to jail terms ranging from five to 15 years for having attempted to topple Bazoum’s predecessor, Mahamadou Issoufou, in 2015.
Those convicted included General Souleymane Salou, a former army chief of staff and a member of the junta that had forced out Tandja in 2010.
Lying in the heart of the Sahel, Niger is two-thirds desert and persistently ranks at the bottom, or near it, in the UN’s Human Development Index, a benchmark of prosperity.
It has a surging population of 22.4 million, driven by a birthrate averaging seven children per woman.
The country is struggling with two jihadist campaigns — one in the southwest, which swept in from neighbouring Mali in 2015, and the other in the southeast, involving jihadists based in northeastern Nigeria. https://www.channelstv.com/2023/07/26/presidents-residence-sealed-off-in-coup-prone-niger/

Politics › Invite PDP Leaders For Interrogation Over Attack On Atiku, APC Tells Security Ag by Morbeta11(op): 10:25am On Jul 26, 2023 |
Invite PDP leaders for interrogation over attack on Atiku, APC tells security agencies
The ruling All Progressives Congress APC has asked security agencies in the country to invite and interrogate leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP over the foiled attack on the residence of the PDP Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
APC spokesman, Felix Morka in a statement on Tuesday night said spewing lies and gibberish has become the PDP’s obsessive preoccupation following its crushing defeat in the last Presidential Election.
“In continuation of its vacuous and mindless campaign of calumny, the Peoples Democratic Party PDP has alleged that suspected members of Boko Haram terrorist group arrested by the Police following their foiled plot to attack the residence of Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President, in Yola, were sponsored by the All Progressives Congress APC.
“We call on the Police, State Security Services SSS and other relevant security services to investigate the PDP’s wild and bogus allegations, invite the PDP’s leadership to substantiate these claims and bring the perpetrators to justice”, he said.
According to Morka, the “bizarre and senseless allegation comes only days after the same badly ailing Party alleged, without a shred of substantiation, that APC was engaged in a plot to intimidate members of the judiciary seeking to influence the outcome of pending cases before the Election Petitions Courts”.
He said it is downright irresponsible for the PDP to continuously politicize serious matters of security and national importance for its vain and macabre humor.
“As an age-old Party, this ceaseless display of egregious incivility in the conduct of its affairs is disgraceful and sad.
“Acts of terror or involvement in a terrorist plot are heinous crimes under the law and the PDP cannot continue to bandy allegations around without justification. Atiku Abubakar is a citizen of Nigeria and deserves the fullest protection of the law. Our law enforcement authorities must protect and investigate any threat to his person, family or assets and prosecute offenders.
“However, Atiku Abubakar’s PDP cannot continue to peddle criminal blackmail and wicked falsehoods in the name of opposition politics, unrestrained and without accountability.
“Nigerians roundly rejected the PDP at the polls. Rather than engage in some introspection and give the court the time of day to deliver a verdict in the case they have brought challenging the election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, they have chosen to busy themselves with swimming in abysmal pool of lies and mischief.
“While vigorously defending our legitimate and popular election mandate in court, our Party will continue to win the hearts and minds of Nigerians through President Tinubu’s strategic program of social and economic development designed to improve the living conditions of our people”, he added. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2023/07/invite-pdp-leaders-for-interrogation-over-attack-on-atiku-apc-tells-security-agencies

Jaye Lo: You owe no apology to Muslims, Soyinka defends Davido
Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka on Tuesday defended singer David Adeleke, saying there was no need to apologise over a controversial video he recently shared which seemed to have disparaged the Muslim faith.
Davido had come under fire over the now-deleted video, with a number of prominent Muslim faithful frowning at the content of the clip.
The statement by Soyinka reads: “The following should not be needed, but we appear to inhabit a nation space where memory deficiency has become an accreditation badge of competence in national affairs. I recall my intervention, several years ago, in an attempt to pillory former Governor of Kaduna State, El Rufai over some comment he had made that was considered derogatory to followers of Christianity.
“I forget the reference now but I do distinctly recall another of a bank manager who, at Easter tide, referred to the risen Christ as a metaphor for the risen dough in the bakeries of Oshodi. Something along those lines. Under obvious pressure, he apologized, and I rebuked him for the gesture.
“There was nothing to apologize about, and that applied equally to El Rufai’s comments at the time. It should come as no surprise that I equally absolutely disagree with Shehu Sani if indeed, as reported, he has demanded an apology from Davido on behalf of the Moslem community.
“No apology is required, None should be offered. Let us stop battening down our heads in the mush of contrived contrition – we know where contrition, apology and restitution remain clamorous in the cause of closure and above all – justice. Such apologies have not been forthcoming. In their place, we have the ascendancy of petulant censorship in the dance and music department. Just where will it end?
“It goes beyond mere elation or euphoria and involves surrender of the ego to the mystical and sublime – through dance. The secularization of that medium stretches across religions, and offers the artistes’ a means of invoking a sense of spiritual community, through a common act of self-surrender.
“As already admitted, I have not seen the clip, but I insist on the right of the artiste to deploy dance in a religious setting as a fundamental given. Such deployment is universal heritage, most especially applicable in the case of Islam where a plot of land, even without the physical structure, can be turned, in the twinkling of an eye, into a sacral space for believers to gather and worship in between mundane pursuits.
“Let us learn to read it that way. Those who persist in taking offence to bed and serving it up as breakfast should exercise their right of boycotting Davido’s products – no one quarrels with that right. However, it is not a cause for negative and incitive excitation.
“The greater responsibility is to face squarely the root issues of religion in the nation. That root issue is starkly stated thus: the sectarian appropriation of the power of life and death across a community of believers, other believers, and even non-believers alike, be it for real, imagined, or deliberately contrived offence.
“It was not Davido’s music that lynched Deborah Yakubu, and continues to frustrate the cause of justice. Nor has it contributed to the arbitrary detention of religious dissenters – call them atheists or whatever – such as Mubarak Bala, now languishing in prison for his 38th month. These are the provocations where every citizen should exercise the capacity for revulsion.
“They are the issues deserving of, indeed exercise primary claim on a nation’s capacity for righteous indignation. All else is secondary. Distractive piffle,” he stated. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2023/07/jaye-lo-you-owe-no-apology-to-muslims-soyinka-defends-davido/

Celebrities › Nigerians Buy The Cheapest Fuel In The World - Eniola Badmus Defends Tinubu by Morbeta11(op): 10:55pm On Jul 25, 2023 |
Nigerians buy the cheapest fuel in the world - Eniola Badmus defends Tinubu. She also expressed her undying love and support for Mr. President.
Eniola Badmus has stated that Nigerians buy fuel at the cheapest rate in the world. The popular actress shared her stance during an interview on media personality Daddy Freeze's Instagram live stream. In an attempt to defend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, she dragged social media users, calling them 'keypad warriors'.
In her words, "A lot of these keypad warriors do not even have an idea of what subsidy is. It was when they removed it that they knew what the government was doing. Even till now, I think we still buy the cheapest fuel in the world."
She went on state her reasons for her unwavering support for the President saying, "I believe him so much, I have seen what he has done and what he is still going to do. I've never seen a philanthropist as our current president."
Speaking rather passionately, Badmus stated her belief in his leadership capabilities and reinforced her support for him because he gives freely.
"Whether he knows you, whether he does not know you...if baba hear your problem, it's solved. We need a cheerful giver, someone that would have empathy for his people in his heart. we need someone that would understand us," she said.
The 40-year-old is known for her support of the Nigerian president; especially during his political campaign. Being fully aware of the public disapproval of her choice, she defended herself saying, "I have a right to choose whoever, and until he leaves the position, I would stand by them." https://www.pulse.ng/entertainment/celebrities/nigerians-buy-the-cheapest-fuel-in-the-world-eniola-badmus-defends-tinubu/jvc6kvc?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social
