Ventersdorp - The Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging (AWB) wants a piece of land for its people to govern and call their own, a spokesperson said in Ventersdorp on Tuesday.

"All we want is a piece of land in South Africa where we can settle ourselves and call it our own and govern ourselves with our religion, and our own laws," said organisation leader Pieter Steyn.

"We want a volkstaat, according to our own way and we don't want any Nigerians, drug lords, rapists, murderers or anyone else there, that's all we want," he said.

Steyn was speaking outside the Ventersdorp Magistrate's Court where the alleged killers of AWB leader Eugene Terre'Blanche would appear.

Confrontation

He said a stand-off between the two groups in which police were forced to intervene was caused by a woman who was not an AWB member.

"Emotions are high right now, people are angry and cross but it is normal, we have requested our members to keep cool and calm and refrain from making racial remarks."

He said AWB members were fearful and that the black group were "playing politics" and were there to "agitate" them.

Police erected a razor wire fence between the two groups after the altercation.

I understand the reason behind cherishing old freedom struggle songs and understand reasons for tyring to keep ones heritage. However i do not condone the continued use of such phrases as their time and context can be misunderstood and  seem offensive to other groups in SA.

What if the word "Boer" was substitued for "kill the makwerekweres" and advocates of such argue on the merits that it represents SA Africans issues with immigrations. Don't you think this sort of language incites rather than reconciles 'racial" issues.


I am for removing it or re composing it to fit todays contexts. Apatheid in its strictest definition is over and in the past and so should this song. If we are talking about economic and social disparities lets use the appropriate language to communicate this. Common sense.

Just came across this thread , big ups to RSA as im from Mzansi as well!! We generally focus on the negatives rather than complimenting the positives, which is why this world is the way it is.
Maybe its time someone in Nigeria post some ACCURATE positive stats so we can learn more from each other. But what I have noticed is how funny it is that Nigerians come to SA and within a month they think they know better about SA than the locals.
I am planning on going to Nigeria this year bt I know that I cannot conclude that life is the same in Lagos as it is in Abuja or Ibadan.

I just saw this on CNN of the soon to be oill revenues flowing from Ghana's newly found oil. The priduction should commence by the end of the year and Ghana should start generating oill revenues as such.

Do you think this will actually benefit this nation borrowing a leaf from what Nigeria has experienced since the discovery of oil in the 1950's.
