What do you expect the SA's to do. It has become overwhelming clear that the country is battling a serious influx of both skilled and unskilled labour from other African countries, noteably Nigeria. They do pose and escalating threat to the majority unskilled labor market in the country and therefore will undoubtedly be discriminated against.
My advice to the doctor. Look for greener pastures somewhere else. That country will be going through some major issues in the coming years. |

KunleOshob: It's quite sad that the truth is coming out of the mouth of an unbeliever whilst our mordern day pharisees who should be telling us the truth are dwelling in hyprocrysis and taking advantage of fellow christians. Who said "Tupac" was an unbeliever. He just don't believe in the systematic gold digging of the CHURCH! |
Travel › Re: Why Can't Nigeria Be Like Ghana? by morpheus24: 2:25pm On Apr 27, 2009 |
londoner: @ Blackspade, I think Ghana is generally a well governed country today.
However, the way you compare Nigeria and Ghana is essentially like comparing apples and oranges.
Ghana's transparency (so far) may be praised, but they had a road map of pot holes to avoid, simply by learning from Nigeria's mistakes. They have found oil whilce also growing true democracy, not at a time of military rule, as with Nigeria.
They have relatively few ethnic and religious clashes, yes, mainly because the main tribe is an overwhelming majority in the country. This cannot be said for Nigeria.
They dont have religious clashes because basically everyone belongs to one religion, muslims in Ghana are a small minority, how many Ghanaian muslims have you ever met?
Compare that to Nigeria, its a very different story.
You also have to look at history, Nigeria is a country which was ruled as three protectorates by the British, we were formed without any national identity, after distrust was first fostered. We also have a civil war in our past.
You cant just look at the surface to compare the two countries. Nigeria has more in common with places like Congo, Rwanda, darfur in terms of history and national disunity.
You speak too soon, when the oil starts to flow and people are tempted with greed, we shall see.
That being said, we can definately learn alot from the Ghanaian electorate, it is their mindset which paved the way for democracy, Kuffour and the ruling party could do nothing about it, the people were firm in what they wanted. Tell them! |

Udode: guess who's back
wow what an exciting trip, i had such a wonderful time, i dont even know where to start
-the food (delicious) omg i ate nice soups and fresh fruit and and and, anything was just delicious, except for the usu (sorry i dont know how to spell this in igbo - its bat), i didnt like that one sooo much, but it was ok - the people were just amazing. wherever i went, all the kids and all the people looked at me, oyibo here, oniocha there, it was unbelievably nice and the people where so open and welcoming, nno everywhere, we (white people) could really learn something from these people - the house(s) - lol a real adventure, as i didnt stay in a hotel i could experience real nigerian life, as well in lagos as in the village i have stayed with the family, which was wonderful. these people are so close together, anything you do you do it as a family, you cook, you eat, you drink, just amazing. something we dont usually do here in europe. I enjoyed listening to radio 90.90 at night, taking a cold shower outside the house while looking at the stars, eating fresh mangos every day, drinking gulder and palmwine :-) - the language, wow igbo is really hard, especially the pronunciation. but at least i could manage some words and i was never ashamed to reply ntakere ntakeri if someone asked me if i speak igbo, it always made them laugh, and me too of course - highlits i would say was the trip from aba to lagos by bus (the engine broke down after 2 hours) and we had to wait for 3 hours in the hot sun before we could manage to get a lift, it was very an exciting day and after 13 hours of travelling i finnally got to bed, another highlight was a wedding, and a traditional zeremonie of one guy in the village who became a red cap member :-)
Summary: I am already planning to go again over christmas, i just loooooved it!!! Glad you had a good time. Please report these experiences to others who think all Nigerians are nothing but scammers and unfriendly. We need ambassadors like you to share their positive experiencies with others. Can't believe you even tried "Bat". |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Is Anc Leader, President Jacob Zuma The Right Man For The Job by morpheus24: 2:09pm On Apr 27, 2009 |
In my honest opinion, poverty and ignorance explains why Zuma and the ANC won. Many black people refused to vote for the DA (for e.g.) because they are paranoid about the country returning to Apartheid under a white president. On the other hand, about 80% of the expatriate vote (most of whom are educated) went to the DA. That says something for itself.
The ANC's influence in the Western province is not strong due to the overwhelming minority residence in the area which is why the DA captured majority vote in those areas.
You can't blame the majority black Africans of paranoia. They would rather see Mr Zuma compared to a "white". It will take time for them to trust again.
My question is how does Mr. Zuma intend to finance his promised social/Welfare agendas without bankrupting the government and getting tied up with overwhelming multiple demands from factions within the populous .He ain't no Obama, not by a long shot. I see no history on his part that shows he can steer the economy to financial success. let's wait and see. |
