We keep coming back to this bleaching skin phenomena. This is a cultural phenomena perculiar to Southern Nigerians as fairness is seen a thing of beauty within a couple of southern cultures. it has nothing to do with trying to look like white people. You would know this if you have ever visited Nigeria.

We have naturally fair skinned people mostly from a specific ethnic group in this country as well induced by genetic disposition. The weather only smoothens out skin and does not cause it to be permanently fair, you just loose vitamin d that reduces the amount of melanin at certain periods of the year when the sun is not intense. YOur fair skin is very likely an inherited trait from interbreed with the lighter skinned African Khoi and San.

Nguni peoples are actually naturally darker skinned as is evident in the Matbele people of Zimbabwe who are a subset of this group that did not travel further into SOuth Africa an intermingle.
