ugsams:sorry if my answer may have offended you, that was not the intention, i am just trying to show you a different perspective instead of the usual dead end narrow minded answers we see on NL. if i'd tell you that life is easy and a walk in the park here in Brasil (it could well be for me and sadly, the opposite for you) then thats what you gonna use to prepare yourself before coming to Brasil, as we can clearly see that you havent remotely done any research on the issue. my point is for you to BE open minded, HAVE a plan but come PREPARED mentally and physically, LEARN the language, MIX with the local, TRAVEL the country... and only then DECIDE where you want to stay in Brasil. going somewhere just because its cheap to live and "possibly" great for me (MBJ) and my lifestyle/desires, its stoopid (excuse my French). as a great man once said:"your time/Life is limited, dont waste it trying to live someone else's lives" 5 Likes 1 Share |

ugsams:how did your last post answer any of the above questions? i still dont know who you are as a person, your financial abilities/budget, what your means of staying in Brasil will be; nor HOW you want to come here; even less what exactly you want to physically do here (apart from aiming for a citizenship); or the type of lifestyle you seek to have here... i dont have a crystal ball. I was hoping that a first hand information will guide me on answering the remaining questions because I have no idea on the cost of living in Favela, posh neighbourhood, main city spots or far from it in Brazil. I don't know the advantages or disadvantages of life in Rio/Sao Paulo when compared to Salvador but I will prefer Salvador based on the general knowledge I have of the place. I also know nothing about social life and what it costs. Yes, i can eat rice often and i don't know what a feijão tastes like.and if you'd done your homework, instead of simply focussing on the "citizenship", then you would have had an idea, as such infos are freely available on the internet. you wanna tell me you are planning on bringing your wife/family and having a child in Brasil, yet have absolutely no clue what the cost of living is over here? Cost will be the major factor in most of my decision as my initial plan is to work elsewhere and live in Brazil.again, i have no idea WHO you are and/or what you seek when coming here (apart from a citizenship). if you had at least done some research, you would have known that A) Rio and SP are the 2 most expensive cities in South America to live in, and B) Rio and SP are two different cities entirely... SP is the business hub, a city that never sleeps, intense, saturated, no beach anywhere near the city, EXPENSIVE, while Rio is the chic city, tourist hub with its 100s of beaches, havaiana state of mind, more laid back, and MORE EXPENSIVE.... yet here you are expecting me to give you an exposé on ALL the different possibilities there are to live in Brasil (since i dont bloody know what you seek). I hope that someday someone who is willing to share from his experience will answer the questions to my benefit and that of many others. Cheersthere is a huge difference between someone willing to share their experience compared to you asking silly questions... here you are asking for the cost of real estate in Brasil, not knowing that such question has 100s of answers, and therefore, instead of expecting me to do your job, you probably should have an idea (beforehand) on where you wanna go, your aim here, what lifestyle you seek etc finally, you said you would prefer living in Salvador, while i would never dream of living there, even if they paid me. but thats just me, and many are happy living in Salvador, but sadly it just aint my type of city (nor is SP)... but i dont want you to base your choices on what i regard as the best place to live in Brasil because we dont have the same lives/desires/aim/requirements, and therefore you need to discover it all, and THEN make up your own mind. whats the point of coming across the world for such a great adventure, and simply following/copying what others are doing? make your own LIFE path!!!! anywhere in Brasil, you can rent a place from €50 to +€5K monthly, depending on where/how close/how nice/how big/how safe/how funky etc 1 Like |

take the following as the important questions you should have answered before you expect anyone to give you any information about life in Brasil: - who you are as a person, - how/why you wanna come to Brasil, - what you intend to do here, - how you intend to achieve that - you can live in Rio/São Paulo OR you can live in Salvador (2 different type of cities entirely); - you can live in a favela OR a posh neighborhood; - you can live close to the main city spots OR you can live hrs from there; - you can be here legally OR illegally; - you can easily get a job OR you can NEVER get a job; - you can easily speak Portuguese and integrate, make friends in Brasil OR you are too dumb to learn a foreign language; - you can eat rice and feijão everyday OR you can do buffets/restaurants every days; - you can get a car/moto OR you can waste time in public transport; - you can go straight home after work OR you can hang out and enjoy evenings during the week; - you can have a miserable life doing absolutely nothing but save every centavos you get OR you can have expensive hobbies. you answer will give me an idea of what 1st hand life you expect me to tell you about 1 Like |

Imposing Sharia Law or any form of religious law is different, why? nspodcast1:doesnt BH want to impose sharia law in Nigeria? actually, if i'd follow your way of thinking, we should let them do what they desire?! hell no! there NEEDS to be laws so that everyone doesnt just do what they bloody please, in the name of "liberty/respect for all". if you have a problem with the law, then go in the street and campaign to have it changed, but until then, FOLLOW THE LAW. as for the law and religion, sadly its too late to try to change that.... try going to any court to realise that! |
