Ok Afobear, I would like to tell you about the legend of Prester John of Indies.

The Legend of Prester John of Indies

This legend was developed by the Christian Europeans during the time of the crusade in the mid 12th century, when the European Christians were defeated by the Muslim forces in the Holy Land. The legend was about the existence of an extremely wealthy and powerful Christian King somewhere in the East. The objective of creating the legend was to reinforce the religious moral of the European Christians. It promised that a fabulously rich and strong Christian King known as the Prester John of the Indies was marching from India to the Middle East in support of his fellow Christians and fight against the Muslims. For this he invited the kings of Christian Europe to join in his mission. As a result, the European Christian states hoped to form an alliance with the powerful king against Islam. However, they didn't know the where about of the kingdom ruled by the Prester John.

Beginning from the 14th century onwards, however, the country of Prester John came to be identified with the medieval highland Christian kingdom of Ethiopia. There were many reasons for them to believe that the kingdom was found in Ethiopia.

Therefore, some European monarchs began to communicate with this Christian state through letters. For instance, in 1400 King Henry IV of England wrote a letter to the Christian king addressing him as Prester John. Moreover, the Portuguese, the Christian superpower of the world, continued to search for the country of Prester John and before the end of the 15th century they succeeded to send a delegation to Ethiopia in 1494.

Before the Europeans came to know about the Christian kingdom, the Christian kingdom of Ethiopia had made serious of attempts to establish contact with them. But these attempts were always frustrated by the Egyptian sultans who didn't want to see the rise of a Christian power in the Horn of Africa.

If you want, I can tell you about Emperor Menelik II expansion to the south of Abyssinia in the late 19th century to create modern day Ethiopia.

Or, if there is other subject you want me to discuss with you, ask me?
Yes.
I always wondered why christian ethiopia never tried to expand xtianity beyond her borders. Why didnt xtianity spread east, west ,south of abyssinia? Dont you think the early xtians of ethiopia had a duty to expand the gospel as an article of faith?

That's just 4 small countries confined to East Africa, and how come Ethiopia doesn't speak swahili? That kind of limits it although I sincerely wish all of black Africa could speak one language even if it was Swahili or Twi.But then a single language as a uniting factor is something overrated.Switzerland,a small country, has 4 official languages(french,Italian,German and Romansch)yet it's arguably the world's richest and most successful nation.
Is this a counter argument?
Ps: Black africa is not a monolithic cultural or linguistic monolith. We are different across and within countries.

You're right in some aspects.....

But I never equated north Africans as Arabs.....

Coffee is gotten from the Arab word (kohva) so please.....

ISIS is a different thing entirely, abeg.... Slavery is still practiced in Europe if you must know.... Go to Italy and Portugal and find out.....
Coffee comes from the region of Ethiopia where the properties of the bean it produces was first noticed: Kaffa region. Ethiopian legend has it that many many many centuries ago, a herdsboy noticed the effect eating coffee beans had on his dads goats, experimented its effect on humans, and the rest is history. Ethiopians take great pride in this fact of giving the world a popular beverage.

Less than one-quarter of DR Congo speaks Swahili. Lingala is still the dominant language as it dominates Kinshasa (the centre of the govt).
In DRC, swahili is co-national with Lingala, Kikongo and Tshiluba. It's not the sole national language.
Kiswahili is one of the 4 national languages of Doctor Congo. Fully one half of Congo speaks kiswahili. The dialect there is called Kiungwana. The entire Eastern half of Congo uses it as the common tongue. Sadly, its a ver chaotic place thanks to so many factors. We have no choice but to absorb them .

Believe me when i say i will be well understood as a kenyan if i went to anywhere in Eastern DR Congo , all i would need is a crash course in Congolese Kiswahili. This very day, i heard some Congolese swahili speakers talking, it was just sweet listening to them. We have plenty of congolese in kenyan cities, what can we do about it, we live in an unbalanced world that doesnt obey the laws of entropy , and we have to absorb the imbalance from their end. Ok, do you know that the different North African countries have their own varieties of Arabic?
But, most Tunisians, Moroccans, Algerians, Libyans and Sudanese can understand Egyptian Arabic very well. This is because of the power and regional influence Egypt has.

If not for the fact that all Arabic speaking countries agreed to adopt classical arabic as their official languages (due to Arab league brotherhood). Egyptian arabic would have been a regional lingua franca. That's the kind of power am talking of.
Kiswahili is the official and/or national language in Kenya,Tanzania,Dr Congo, and soon to be Rwanda.
Kiswahili got power baby!

Swahili lacks the power to dominate Africa because the countries who speak swahili are not powerful enough. It takes the language of a powerful country to dominate a continent.

Swahili has not even finished dominating Uganda. The southern half reject the language and favours Luganda. In Congo, Swahili still has 3 powerful lingua francas (Lingala, Kikongo and Tshiluba) to compete with. Rwanda and Burundi are very small, uninfluential and insignificant countries in Africa.

Until there is a powerful, dominating and large country speaking swahili in Africa, the language will never dominate Africa. Arabic is even doing better.
How do you perceive/understand/practice this thing ,whats it again,....ah yes "power" ?

All of you Bantus are similar, you have same ancestors from Nigeria/Cameroon axis.

This is why i support a Bantu union in Africa. You guys should try and trace the original proto Bantu language and promote it! (this may end up being the language to unite Africa) as Bantu is the largest subgroup of the Black race.

Swahili on it's own will never be able to penetrate Southern Africa, West Africa and West-Central Africa.
Has any language ever united Europe, Asia or pre columbian America?

Government handles water distributions in Nigeria though very poor.

You listed 4 basic infrastructures: 1, water
2, light
3, Tarmac roads
4, sewage system

Abuja has all those save one
Some parts of Lagos has all those save one(light) while many places in Lagos has all those save two (light and sewage system).

Abuja is a better planned city than all the best cities in Kenya. grin

Water is well connected in major cities including my small town but people don't pay bills and this acts doesn't encourage the government to perform better.

Unfortunately, once government blocks flow of water, people decides to go the easy way by digging boreholes. But now in some cities you must pay taxes on every boreholes you dig.

Now, tell me more about the infrastructures on ground in Kenya cities that are better than Nigeria. grin
There is a dearth of information regarding water, sanitation and all things appertaining on Nigeria on the internet. Even your federal/state agencies are wanting You just hit a brick wall everytime you try and research. Its frustrating, hence the only way we can solve this is for a knowledgeable head to weigh in.
Until then , i will have to rely on what I've been told by a first hand observer and what Obi1kenobi has affirmed. That is there is no organised and standardised water and sewer reticulation in Nigeria.

Ps: You can tax folks all you want when they dig boreholes. Is that sustainable. With septic tanks all up and down the place. would you trust the water you drink? Dont you think regulation is a good and Necessary thing?

well , here you go "In 2015, 69% of the total population had access to "improved water supply". This was 80% of the urban population and 57% of the rural population. In 2015, around 58 million people lacked access to "improved" water. As for sanitation, only 29% of the total population had access to "improved" sanitation."

your also go ahead and understan how the water supply works
Water supply by cities
Abuja
Millennium Park in Abuja, whose water supply is being expanded.

Nigeria's capital Abuja receives part of its drinking water from the lower Usuma dam. The capacity of the plant that treats surface water from the dam’s reservoir was in the process of being increased in 2012 in order to cater for the growing population of the capital. The Guara dam, which was under construction in 2012, is expected to further increase water supply to Abuja and to mitigate against the risk of drought.[12] Wastewater is treated in a 131,200 cubic meters per day plant at Wupa that was completed in 2007. The Federal Capital Territory, through the Abuja Environmental Protection Board, has contracted a private operator to run the plant. However, when the government apparently failed to pay the operator he walked away, confronting the area with a pollution crisis.[13]
Lagos

Nigeria's largest city Lagos is surrounded by water from the sea and a lagoon. Its clean water supply in the city is about 81.32%.[citation needed] But since the raw water in the lagoon is too polluted, the city gets its water from Ogun River and Owo River. The city's oldest water treatment plant, located in Iju on the Ogun River, was built in 1910. It was expanded in stages to 45m gallons per day. Another smaller plant was built at Ishashi on the Owo River in the 1970s. The biggest plant so far was commissioned in 1991 in Adiyan with a capacity of 70m gallons per day. It also draws from the Owo River. There are also seven mini-waterworks drawing from local sources with a combined capacity of 18m gallons per day.[14] The Lagos Water Corporation states that the water produced in the plant meets the highest standards, and that it supplies "safe drinking water in sufficient and regular quantity to over 12.5 million people in Lagos State".[15] However, water is often contaminated in the distribution network and people distrust tap water quality.[16] Electricity supply interruptions prevent treatment plants from operating continuously.[17] However, a dedicated 12.15 MW power plant was under construction in 2012 to supply power to the Adiyan, Iju and Akute water treatment plants.[18] Households also source water from numerous private shallow wells.[18] Or households rely on street vendors, creating a thriving market for “sachet water”, purified water packaged in polyethylene pouches.[17] Water vendors called Mairuwa sell water from tanks and drums on carts, which is sometimes sold to other vendors that carry water in buckets or gerry cans.[18] Access to water provided by the state Water Corporation is 'metropocentric' i.e., centred around the metropolis.[19]
Makurdi

In Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, only about 25-30% of the population are served and inhabitants fetch raw water in buckets from the polluted Benue river. In 2008 the construction of a water treatment plant was left unfinished and officials were unable to account for USD 6 million. As of 2012, a water treatment plant was under construction as part of the Greater Makurdi Waterworks Project. According to Nat Apir, an independent water consultant, the lack of a modern distribution network will lead pipes to burst and the capacity of the plant is at risk of not being fully utilized.[20]
Other cities
The Northern city of Kano suffers from deficient water supply.

Kano is supplied from local rivers and from groundwater which is over-exploited. Public water supply is deficient, so that private water selling points are multiplying and generate profits for their private operators.[21] Kaduna receives drinking water from the Kaduna River. Ibadan receives its drinking water from Eleyele dam.
National policies and initiatives

Nigeria's National Water Supply and Sanitation Policy, approved in 2000, encourages private-sector participation and envisages institutional and policy reforms at the state level. However, little has happened in both respects. As of 2007, only four of the 37 states - Lagos, Cross River, Kaduna and Ogun States - began to introduce public-private partnerships (PPP) in the form of service contracts,[6] a form of PPP where the responsibility of the private sector is limited to operating infrastructure without performance incentives. While the government has a decentralization policy, little actual decentralization has happened. The capacity of local governments to plan and carry out investments, or to operate and maintain systems, remains low despite efforts at capacity development. Furthermore, the national policy focuses on water supply and neglects sanitation.

In 2003 a “Presidential Water Initiative (PWI): Water for People, Water for Life” was launched by then-President Olusegun Obasanjo. The initiative had ambitious targets to increase access, including a 100 percent water access target in state capitals, 75 percent access in other urban areas, and 66 percent access in rural areas. Little has been done to implement the initiative and targets have not been met.[6]

In 2011 the government voted in the United Nations in favor of a resolution making water and sanitation a human right. However, it has not passed legislation to enshrine the human right to water and sanitation in national law. The country is not on track to reach the Millennium Development Goal for water and sanitation.[18]

Since 2008 community-led total sanitation has been introduced in six states, with the support of UNICEF and the EU. While not being a national policy, apparently this grass-roots initiative has met with some success. More than 17,000 latrines have been built in 836 communities, and more than 100 of these communities have attained the goal of being declared free of open defecation.[22]
Water supply and sanitation in Nairobi
Water supply and sanitation in Nairobi is characterised by achievements and challenges. Among the achievements is the expansion of infrastructure to keep pace with population growth, in particular through the construction of the Thika Dam and associated water treatment plant and pipelines during the 1990s; the transformation of the municipal water department into an autonomous utility in 2003; and the more recent reduction of water losses – technically called non-revenue water – from 50 to 40%.[1]

Challenges include poor quality and intermittent water supply (only 40% of those with house connections receive water continuously),[2] the loss of storage capacity in reservoirs behind dams through siltation accelerated by erosion in the Aberdare Range,[3] lack of access to adequate sanitation in slums where half the population of the city lives, blockages of sewers resulting in overflows,[4] and unused capacity in the city's largest wastewater treatment plant in Dandora.[5] Another problem is political infighting and corruption, leading to the firing of the entire Board of the Nairobi Water Company in 2009.[6]
lastly,Gat a task for you ,"please compare the numbers of people that consummes water in lagos then compare it with kenya water consumption at large"
You just went straight to wikipedia, didn't you? All the stuff there is soooo outdated, its not useful. Wikipedia is not a source of indisputable facts,ESP when not updated frequently. You also conveniently cut and pasted stuff, such as there being no laws, standards, or even a national or regional regulator for water in nigeria. FACT.
I think it would be better answered by someone in the know, not a google keyboard warrior.

FYI access to piped water is NOT confined to Nairobi. There are water companies all over the country. The sector is far far more organised than what you have in the "giant" .
Its not numbers that count mister random number ending in 419, its quality.and percentages.
Ps: I also detect a contempt for contracts and contractual law, judging from this narrative. Not good for a country, not good.

What sewer system? Only very few areas in Lagos have sewer systems. 99% of Nigerians construct their own septic pit with soak-away to dispose of sewage. Every few years, when it fills up, we call sewage disposal tankers that come and suck it up and dispose. There's no doubt that in terms of public utilities, Nigeria is one of the worst countries in Africa. Regardless, I highly doubt sewer systems are as widespread as you're making out in Kenya.
Ahaa!! 99% of folks using septic tanks ad very few places in Lagos with sewer lines. Is that even sustainable? And dont you think public services and their efficacy are what defines and separates greatness and mediocrity btwn nations?

Let's see, we have actual water companies that provide actual water. Unlike Nigeria where most Lagosians and Abujans rely on boreholes.Nairobi gets its water from Ndakaini,Sasumua and Ruiru dams in Central Kenya.
Mombasa pumps its water from Mzima Springs(near Mt Kilimanjaro),Baricho in River Galana and Shimba Hills.
Kikumu from Lake Victoria etc
We have stable power supply.
We do have tarmac roads that end at our doorsteps.
We have sewer systems even in the smallest towns like my rural home town has a sewer system that uses trickle technology to treat the water. The town barely has 10,000 people. And that is the norm across Kenya.
Nigeria has federal governments that basically provide little or no such services. In fact ,I read that Lagos got its sewer system in the 90s shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked.Eeerm.My rural town had its sewer system in the 50s.
and Piped water serves barely 20 percent of the population of Lagos. In Nairobi, even slums have water kiosks where they buy water from Nairobi water
What i have been barking up and down ,just to get a simple overview. Yes, i have seen the phenomenon in nollywood movies, and i have also been told by a very knowledgeable person who has visited nigeria, that folks there.rely on borehole water for water supply, and soakaway for disposing of greywater.

i think like mtumsuper said, let us hear from the kenyans living/working/studying/doing business etc in Nigeria come out and give us a balanced picture. Surely there must be some kenyans living there. Come out ,come out, wherever you are.

I have missed alot, and i now see this is a free for all brawl with Ghanaians and South Africans entering the mess. Very sad about the insults, its not good, lets be focused people.
Thank You!!
