I cannot find any top company in Kenya in the top 10 most profitable companies that is owned by foreigners!!!Most are owned by THE GOVERNMENT OF KENYA!!!

As for Nigerian students, I know quite a number from Ikeja,Maryland and Banana Island. And they showed me the pictures of tgheir places. Those are NOT low income households!!!

There are alot of foreigners in Nairobi, FACT. And yes, they don't dominate us. The presence of two global HQs of the UN ( UNEP and HABITAT) makes Nairobi an international city. I have a friend who makes a killing teaching foreigners as assorted as Indonesians and Brazilians resident in Nairobi to speak passable Swahili in order to move around with ease. It isn't strange spotting foreigners of all socioeconomic levels in all parts of the city, hence the need to learn the language. Anytime nigerians see progress in another part of Africa they go crying "oyibo oyibo has done it" as a way to deny what is evident. Did oyibo build eldoret which i frequent alot and has a fast rising middle class?

PS: I did say the only thing Kenya has over Nigeria is stable electricity which Kenya Power is losing ground on especially in lower middle class neighborhoods like Buruburu and Donholm, so hate it or love it, both countries cannot be easily compared. Both nations have their own strengths and weaknesses.

Mind you, most of the Nigerians having these arguments are of lower middle class status, I imagine you are of the upper middle class since you have diplomat friends in Naija, so in reality, the people you consider upper middle class in Nairobi are actually lower middle class in Lagos, imagine the disparity. In fact most (not all) of the Nigerians in Kenya are from low income households. How many low income household citizens in your country can afford a travel passport or even afford to travel outside of East Africa for that matter??

There are two threads on NL of very recent vintage that are discussing this topic, this being one of them. Go through them starting here and see for yourself. As a person who takes interest in the world and the state of men, i can confidently say there has been a tangible shift in fortunes of kenyans at a personal and national level in the last ten years that is noteworthy . You have done yourself a great injustice by seeing kenya through the eyes of donholm and buru buru. What of rural Kenya? How about Kisumu, Mombasa, eldoret, kisii, meru?? Been there? In gross terms, kenya has moved to the WB middle income category, and we are yet to produce oil,all the more remarkable .
Ps. I read alot and observe alot, that doesn't make me an upper this or a lower that. Your income does. I take the trouble to inform myself of the world around me culturally and otherwise. I live in Nairobi and the presence of foreigners is a must at all socio economic levels (Yes, there are slum dwellers from neighboring countries, as well as very well heeled ones. Therefore, developing xenophobic sentiments is difficult in a nairobian like me, but telling you the cold truth is.

Back 2012, my company then was contracted to set up a internet link between a Lagos office and its regional office in ghana.
A couple of Kenyans (expertriates they said) were contracted to set up the mail servers. It took a couple of days for the Kenyan guys to arrive. This didn't go down well with my guys as we couldn't leave the site without the mail server completion.

On arrival, these Kenyan guys were all too full of themselves as they complained about everything that had to do with Lagos and Nigeria as a whole.
The traffics, the immigration officers, traffic, food, hotel etc.

Eventually they settled down to do their jobs and along the line they ran into technical issues which we had to come in and rectify as prolonging the project was already affecting their continued stay.
I discovered that the IT director of the parent company here in Nigeria intentionally brought in the Kenyans in order to get paid in dollars and not naira.
This is the irony of my country.

I learnt a lot from that incident. We have a lot to learn from each other but we focus too much on how better we are than the other side. I guess this has been our bane as Africans.

Our agenda is not to belittle anyone, but to defend ourselves from some of you guys who know little about Africa beyond the next state. They are legion. This is why these guys express shock upon seeing the physical kenya and kenyans, so learn more about other regions of africa. It is sad when some of your countrymen come over and degrade us here as well incl. very pithy insults at us in our own country. Many of your mannerisms and general demeanor cause alot of offense to locals, its time the saying " a chicken in Lagos is a chicken in Borno" be twinned with " an insult in Nairobi is an insult in Lagos " .

As for the group that came to set up your servers, i think they fall into the trap of untraveled persons unaccustomed to basic Dos and donts when out of their native lands, it's all down to upbringing and social exposure of said individuals. And i have seen many a boss even here who tweak the system to earn more than they sweated for, it's a case of ethical indiscipline.

Matters are not helped when prominent nigerians join the fray( this whole beef started as a twitter hashtag to poke fun at each other, just for laughs ) and issue unspeakable insults at us. Not cool, not cool at all.

Fully agree on working on things that mutually benefit us.

The only thing that makes the country better than Naija is 24 hours electricity.

The Kenya Airways you spoke about is losing money fast, Ethiopia Air is giving them mad competition.

Kenya also has the highest number of slums in Africa. Consider that while Nigeria has Lagos, Port Harcourt, Abuja, Ibadan, Onitsha and other major cities, Kenya only has Nairobi and Mombasa which are dominated mostly by foreigners.

In the end, Nigeria remains a stronger country. Let 24 hours electricity enter Naija and watch how things will change.

Great facts though.

You lived there for 10 years, came with a prejudiced mind, lived the same way, and left none the wiser. And then i thought travel makes people wiser. This same attitude you display here gets loads of your countrymen in trouble here. When you walk around with that mindset, nothing appears to be good or worthwhile to you, does it? Some of nigerians living in kenya are giving a good account, but am yet to hear from kenyans living in nigeria(apart from diplomatic or business types ), because they surely don't think it's a place to make moves in one's life.

Ps. So you think you know Kenya having been to only Nairobi and Mombasa, what a waste. What a waste of 10 years.

First, its criminally wrong to convert a country's budget to an equivalent of another currencies. To me that's one of the greatest undoings of Africans. You don't see American or Europeans converting theirs to Yen or WAUA.
Secondly, the more reason why Tonye goofed in exalting Kenya above Nigeria is because of the population, sizes and diversities of Nigeria.
You don't use the same fuel to a Payloader Machine and a Toyota Corolla car. Both are vehicles, though, but the old model of a Payloader bought even when its spoilt will still be costlier than a Toyota Corolla.
So, even a dead Nigeria is still more valuable than a Kenya.
