@bindex
You are right. Most nigerians even the the so called educated folks do not know the basic funstions of goverment.
the basic functions of govt to my brothers and sisters is for it(govt) to paint a few hospital walls, ban children hawking during school hours, installing CCTV camera's before figuring out how it would be powered, buy a yatch to be used as a hotel, and declare state of emergency on power, spending taxes/state allocations on airfields for exports without having the traders/manufacturers raise the standard of their exports, building a airport in ur state but not having the air traffic to justify it.

that right there is a summary of the functions of govt.

Ifygurl:
I think the guy is just stupid. Okay, one wetin the man do to help at least a beggar in the streets of Naija. His pissed because no one showed up in his rally. What was the title for his rally? How much did he promote it?
I learned a valuable lesson from my Indian professor yesterday, He said and I quote "Don't blame others for your problems, blame yourself". The guy is yelling and screaming that no one showed up in his rally, he should ask himself, how many time did I promote my rally? what was my rally’s topic and what are people’s reaction to it? He should ask himself that.
Secondly, what has he done at least for Nigeria?
Okay, let us go to Anambra. A businessman from Anambra donated enough money to fix the roads in Anambra. I have not seen it yet but my mother did, she traveled to Nigeria last year (2008) and according to her Anambra roads were clean and fixed
If the Anambra businessman decided to denounce his citizenship, then at least we would have known he did something to benefit Nigeria.
The poster seems to be worried about living in Poverty. I've been to many countries and I’ve met a lot of Nigerians in those countries, I’ve never seen a Nigeria in any country including the one I’m staying in (America) that would stand up and say "I live like a rich man in this borrowed country". I have seen a lot of Nigerians in America and in Britain complaining on how much they work, just so they can make enough for their family. Does the poster actually think if he leaves Nigeria and migrates to another country then everything is peachy? Does he actually think life isn’t hard in other countries?
One thing I learnt while living in America is the community tries to fix there self up even if the government refuses to fix them. I have seen people start charities to pick up trash on the street or burning those trashes. Hell, my high school ROTC class was involved with one; it is called "Adopt a Spot".
I've seen many Nigerians complaining about the trash on the street of Naija and it makes me wonder how many of those Nigerians that I’ve complained had started a charities just to keep the streets clean, either by burning the trash or picking one up.
Let’s take another Naija state for example.
Calabar was labeled the cleanest city in Naija and one of the cleanest in Africa. While reading the article I saw pictures of old women sweeping the streets of Calabar with regular broom. It seems the citizens of Calabar are not waiting for the government to take care of the city, they decided to do it their damn self.
When I visited Naija in 2004, I remembered in Enugu early in the morning, people that are going to work would actually stop and set the trash lying around on fire. I remembered the smell, it stuck but it helped keep the street clean.
Anytime I see a Nigerian complain, the first thing I think about is what has he/she done to improve living in Nigeria.

Anyway, like someone said before, the poster has every right to his opinion. I doubt any of us would miss him. I know I wouldn't.
not in support of the poster nor am i against him, but did u read his post or u simply breezed thru and decided u knew enough to make a comment about what was written?

U better believe it because its true. We are not just going to work on the present one but change entirely to modern one. God help our good government. And believe this, every great bank in this country is struggling to get the contract.
Eko o ni baje.
do u have any information to back up ur claim, and if you do and it is correct. that would be a classic example of why naija is kinked. cos i do not know when bank turned contractors. financing the project i understand but being awarded the contract, i refuse to. only if by saying,"struggling to get the contract" you meant struggling to be allowed to finance the contract.

PoliticsRe: Festus Keyamo Replies Omoyele Sowore by mustafar1: 11:40pm On Jan 12, 2009
I have said it and I will keep saying it, Nigeria will never get better. Maybe in 3020.
lol, i guess the year increases every minute. CORRECT? can we auction off naija, it would take less time to do that.
PoliticsRe: Imagine Fashola As Nigerian President by mustafar1: 8:09pm On Jan 12, 2009
its not a matter of listening to too much yes we can rhetorics. because it took john doe 6 years to finish a 4 year long college degree doesnt mean i should use him as a yardstick to measure my progress. cos when we start doing that, we tend to scale back on our own potential. i'd rather listen to a yes we can rhetoric than get infected with and spread a yes we can't herpis.
PoliticsRe: Imagine Fashola As Nigerian President by mustafar1: 7:46pm On Jan 12, 2009
because the romans could not build rome in one day doesnt mean we cant build lagos in one day. because the romans couldnt do it doesnt mean we can't.
PoliticsRe: Imagine Fashola As Nigerian President by mustafar1: 5:26pm On Jan 12, 2009
lagos state employees now have to sign in and be at their desks by 8am. the H.O.S. can pop up in any building at anytime and the rest is , all of this with the aim of making the workers effective i.e. making use of every second those employees are being paid for. which is all in line with the seriousness mantra the lagos state govt is preaching. but what explanation would we give to the unlimited bags of rice stacked high on the corridors of every ministry during the holidays. instead of lagos state employees working, they were all busy helping share rice. an investor visiting any ministry is met by corridors stacked with bags upon bags.

i support the govts work but theres a lot going on that shouldnt be, it simply makes all the noise seem like nursery rhyme.

i could use a lifeline here and simply say common sense is not common. right?

i understand your point totally. we as humans need babysitting. because we don't wear diapers no more doesnt make us babysitting immune. thus the reason why they hammer us with numerous ads telling us stuff we most likely already know. flip side is, some still do otherwise when it is clear they know better. e.g. my buddy who doesnt use a seat belt but knows why its in the car.
PoliticsRe: Help! Lagosians Are In Trouble. by mustafar1: 10:29pm On Jan 08, 2009
true education is key but its not everything one must be taught. some u seek for urself.

what would you say about people who have their houses built under high voltage power lines, with their roofs almost touching the lines. yes i can argue that they dont know better, but they know not to touch a naked wire not to talk of seducing one carrying a high voltage.
PoliticsRe: Help! Lagosians Are In Trouble. by mustafar1: 10:04pm On Jan 08, 2009
insisting on the use of helmet is not a ban on okada, it is telling them what they ought to know, and if they didnt know. its telling them that wearing a helmet would help in case of an accident.

as regards individuals wearing paint buckets, engineers hard hats, and mama mi leko placing the helmet on top of her head gear. it all boils down to the fact that they don't know why they need to wear helmets or what purpose the helmet is for. some might refer to them as ignorant, some clueless, some illiterates but the fact remains in case of an accident, there nothing guarding their heads from crashing hard into the concrete pavement. its not just about wearing/placing something hard on ur hard, its about wearing the right thing on ur head.

because I'm allergic to latex i stopped using condoms and instead i use nylon bags. it should protect me the same since it prevents direct contact huh shocked

when the NYC govt decided in 2003 that they were going to ban smoking in bars and restaurants because they classified it as public places, and smoking isnt allowed in public places. they didnt provide an alternative for people before making that a rule that was expected to be followed or face the penalty. they decided it was for the good of everyone and they did what needed to be done.

restaurant owner, were at war, kicking and screaming that it would make them loose business, they kicked and screamed that it would do ABC and F to the life of their businesses if they lost customers. the day the law took effect came and not one person tried to smoke in a restaurant. restaurants provided little tents outside with heaters(yes the law took effect in the dead of winter) so their customers could smoke in there and go back in to enjoy their meal. if you have been to NYC, u would know that it thrives on its tourist $$$$$. majority of the patrons of these restaurants are tourists, NYC govt didnt say because it didnt want to loose the tourist revenue, it wont implement what it thinks would prevent that 2 year old son of mine from inhaling joe the smokers second hand smoke while trying to swallow a mouth full of mac and cheese.

my point in essense is, lagos state govt doesnt have to provide an alternative to okada (ok maibe it does to some extent) before it tries to make okada riding safer. it does have to provide subsidized helmets before people find a way to wear helmets or protect themselves from infections they could get from sharing helmets. yes wearing a helmet doesnt guarantee survival in an accident but it darn is a step towards reducing the chances of death and injury.

NEXT! all structures built under high voltage power lines or over petroleum pipelines. things must get better. if you know anyone who has a how built less than some 20 or 30 feet away from a powerline, tell them to start looking for somewhere else to stay, or advice them to sell it and run with the money. because it is coming down soooooooooooooooonnnnnn.

if this rider got into an accident and was thrown off his bike, I'm not God but he would either be dead or be paralysed from neck down because the bucket on ur head would provide perfect support for any heavy force required to break his neck.
Car TalkRe: New Helmet Rule In Lagos by mustafar1: 8:05pm On Jan 07, 2009
if u dont want infection, buy urself shower cap if u cant afford ur own helmet. wear it before wearing a helmet that watever james and john hanging out in the helmet wont get in ur hair. u can simply wash it everyday and reuse. as for those shouting someone could put voodoo in the helmet. they can as well put it on the seat of the okada, so dont sit while on one, STAND ALL THE WAY.
