If you were president of Nigeria, how will you solve Boko Haram

1. Develop and/or Publish a Counter-Terrorism Strategy:Presently there is poor coordination between and integration of military means and political and economic objectives. There is currently no publicly known counter-terrorism strategy guiding the response to BH, and the impact of this can be seen in at least three ways: first is the chaos and confusion surrounding the government’s intention to explore a negotiated settlement by dialoguing with BH. One minute the government favours and
seeks to dialogue and grant amnesty to BH, the next minute government rules it out. There are mixed signals from the government. Second is the lack of use and coordination of military, political and economic means, yet successful counter-insurgency requires close coordination of military, political and economic means and objectives.

2. Build a new Intelligence Gathering Infrastructure – In 2012, Nigeria announced plans for a new intelligence fusion centre to coordinate, improve and integrate intelligence gathering and sharing across agencies. We need to obtain more timely and actionable intelligence from local sources in the areas affected by Boko Haram. We would also establish an office of the Special Anti-Terrorism Coordinator.

3. Improved Intelligence: The solution to preventing, limiting and responding better to BH attacks does not lie in deploying more troops but in improving intelligence and increasing force enablers. The fight against BH will be enhanced if government focuses on these two elements.

4. Improve Contingency Planning: Most major militaries around the world have plans for the major challenges they are likely to face. We need to begin to create plans and conduct training exercises that reflect the challenges we will face. In this manner. Our security apparatus will be better prepared if and when a situation arises.

5. Pursue and Align military with political (negotiated) solutions: Boko Haram is unlikely to be defeated militarily. Most insurgencies are ended through some form of negotiation. Government must develop a strategy along the lines of the policy followed by President Yar’Adua (over the MEND insurgency in the Niger Delta) at least to the extent that we use employment and other rehabilitative incentives to separate the rank and file from Boko Haram’s leadership.

6. De-radicalization Strategy: The Northern region is in urgent need of a counter-radicalization program to prevent many more young people (illiterate and unemployed) from being radicalized. Such strategies would require initiatives to counter violent extremist ideology and create positive incentives against radicalization (beyond the current focus on punitive measures – arrest, detention and killing), give voice and representation to young people in the region, etc.

7. Regionalize (ECOWAS and AU) Response: The government to solicit the operational involvement and assistance of ECOWAS and AU, including deploying multinational security operations across the Sahel to track and hunt down Boko Haram operational chain. It is clear that Boko Haram is no longer a ‘Nigeria-only’ problem, but now a regional security menace that requires regional responses.

8. Effective information management and strategic communication: The government needs to reform the way information is released and managed on Boko Haram. This goes beyond official information management and government agencies to include working with print, electronic and online media organizations, and local (grassroots) information channels.

9. Economic Development Plan for Northern Nigeria: The proposed recovery fund for the North East is grossly inadequate window dressing. A real and massive effort is needed. Clearly more financial resources are needed. Economic revival goes beyond providing substantial funds – it has to be guided by clear objectives, roles of public and private sectors and civil society groups, and must include social (education, health, religion, culture and traditional institutions), environmental, and political aspects, in addition to economic issues.

10. Involve civilian peace building organizations (military and police cannot build peace): Uniformed personnel are never peace builders. The government needs to urgently involve local and international peace building organizations, including NGOs, CSOs, etc. to design peace building initiatives for the NE.

Conclusion

Our nation stands on the rim of crisis. A stupendous national disaster beckons. But this current leadership can help avert disaster if they wake up to what true governance is. The time for excuses and half-measures is long past. The well being of the nation hangs in the balance. If we do not act decisively, the demands of the moment will find us wanting and history will issue a terrible verdict against us. We seek to protect this nation and her children. We seek to establish a legacy that shows the feats to which this nation can aspire when it stands united and strong against the threat of evil. We seek to make Nigeria a land where no one will ever have to demand that our girls be returned because in a better, more secure Nigeria they never will be taken!

How to control flood

Improving Drainage

Did it occur to u that Patrick sawyer's aim was to infect people at the ECOWAS conference but for his health that detoriated when he landed in Lagos? The entire staff of that hospital are heroes and they prevented what could have been a catastrophe.

A patient was brought in feeling feverish, the hospital took him in which is normal, he didn't tell them he was from Liberia. They ran a test on him found out it was Ebola, and he even denied it. So what would they have done? Send him away so he can infect 20 million lagosians?

Sawyer even asked the doctors to discharge him so he could continue his journey to calabar but the staff denied him. Now if u were working in that hospital I'm sure u would run away knowing u were dealing with Ebola. Sawyer wanted to force himself out of the hospital but the staff fought him and when he saw he had no where to go, he urinated on the doctors and nurses and that was how most of the infected got infected.Those people risked their lives to save millions, they deserve some respect and not criticism.

People have different cognitive aptitudes and so comparing disciplines in this way or deducing comparative intelligence by comparing the content of material in such a spurious and superficial way demonstrates not only a weak undergraduate mind set but a poor knowledge of epistemology.
To surmise that medicine is about the ability to remember "facts" is shallow. That is a very Nigerian approach to education and learning and that is why there are few discoveries or innovations out of Nigeria.
Where do facts come from? It is relatively easy to learn how to use mathematical formula but figuring out those formula in the first place happened when there were no books to read and remember.This is just as true in medicine and so thinking is more important than memorizing
Is there a MEDICAL MOSES who climbs a medical mount and then comes down and fills books with knowledge for students to remember? Most doctors are technicians but a few are SCIENTISTS who constantly review and update knowledge which the technicians remember for their exams. That is why today we have vaccines for polio,why small pox has bee eradicated etc. You do not innovate by reading and remembering but by thinking and experimenting. In other words the purpose of knowledge is to improve life for all humanity and that is not simply done by reading other peoples thoughts. The mobile phone, X-rays, smart phones, vaccines, Eye glasses etc are all examples of the human mind at work. This is seen in medicine, engineering, architecture, transport etc no one is less valuable as long as it improves lives. Reading and remembering improves little and the best doctors are not those who remember most.

The only comment I will make about studying medicine is those who are best at reading and remembering are more likely to get an opportunity to study medicine at undergraduate level, this has nothing to do with how easy or hard medicine is but is about competition for limited opportunities but passing exams is very different from medical practice

Now there are many things ladies don't know abt us guys. Dis has led to a lot of misconception and disenchantment from both sex. I read a lot of comments here and I realise dat most ladies don't know anything about d makeup of a man. I believe dat the ladies will learn a lot if they realize some basic truth about us.

1.Men don't want only sex from you: many ladies believe or think dat d only thing guys want from dem is sex. Dis is why they go into a relationship with dat resource only as wat they are bringing on board hoping dat the guy will do anything for dem as long as he's getting sex. Dis is wrong. Men may like sex but its not d only thing they like or want in a relationship. A guy needs a lady who will understand him, who can stand by him and encourage him to reach his full potential, who can spur him on and always remind him dat he can make it no matter all odds. A lady who can come into his life and put things right dat were wrong, dat can get him to be organised and focused, dat can walk with him on d street, dat can smile and laugh at his jokes, dat can play with him and have a gud time with him, dat can love his family and respect him as a man. Some things are just more important than sex to guys.

2. It takes effort to woo a lady: ladies if u don't know it, know it now! Its not easy for a guy to stop a lady and share how he feels about her. It takes a lot of guts and also humility to do dat. Men are naturally egoistic and don't like anything dat puts dem down or make dem look like they're begging especially when it comes to ladies. Understand dat dis is natural and not dat they enjoy acting dat way, its a result of both nature and nurture.
Before a guy approaches u as a lady, many things must have gone thru his mind. How best to make d move, wat to say, how to say it, hwo to smile and all dat. Dis cud take minutes or days or weeks or even months depending on d guy involved and d urgency. Some guys go thru sleepless nites thinking abt how to approach a particular lady, its not easy. And atimes, d lady will still turn dem down and once dis happens, it becomes more difficult for him to repeat d cycle again. So ladies, when a guy approaches u pls don't put him down like u usually do. Find a way to help preserve his confidence and also pay him back for his effort cos it takes effort. If u don't like him, turn him down softly!

3. Guys are more emotional dan u think: forget all d macho and strong man dat most guys put on d surface. Guys are much more soft and emotional dan they tend to present on d outer surface, even more dan ladies atimes. We cry, we fall in love, we get depressed atimes, we get frustrated. And the worst is dat we hardly show it or speak out for people to help. Becos of upbringing where guys are expected to absorb tension, we just bottle a lot of things up and keep dying inside. It takes a wise lady to unbottle these tensions and bring out the best in a guy.

4.Guys like spending money on ladies: Yes I said so! On the right ladies though. Once a guy loves you, he won't mind spending his last kobo on you. A guy can buy his girl Mr Biggs and go home to soak garri. Its not becos he's mumu or sth, its just how he values the lady in question. Guys love with their resources and their whole heart. Unfortunately, many ladies believe dat a guy who gives to a lady like dat is a fool or mumu. That's why many of us now withdrew because one of d worst things u can ever do to a guy is to tamper with his ego, to make him feel like a fool when he was loving you.Dats why a guy can love his girl and give her everything even while abandoning his own family and siblings.

5. Guys love sex: yes dis is true. Guys love sex not becos they just feel like loving it, but becos they are wired to love it. A healthy man gets erection even when he doesn't want to. Even when a man is sleeping, he gets erection without realising it. Just seeing a lady he likes can give a man erection and dat is how God made it. Its just dat some guys do a good job of controlling it dan others and u must respect those dat do so cos its not easy. So when next u want to knw why guys like I suggest you ask God.

6.Guys are easy to manipulate: guys feel dat its their duty to help ladies. Most guys would fight their fellow men just to defend a lady. I once saw a guy slap his fellow guy just becos he said he would slap a lady! Guys are always d one who compromise for ladies and its natural. Even in d family, guys always feel its their duty to protect their sisters. Its easy to know wat a guy likes and doesn't like so it makes it easy to control and manipulate dem by d ladies. Once u give a guy wat he likes, he will do anything for you.

There is no truer statement. In medicine, your only challenge is to just make sure you know a lot. Cram everything. Read, read and read again. No flash of genius. If I have a very intelligent child, I'll send him to study aeronautical engineering, nuclear physics, or computer engineering. Truth is that an average student can pass through medicine if he can sit down and read. For nuclear physics, what will you do with those long equations? Just asking.

In a determined effort to eliminate terrorism by routing insurgents from their hideouts in parts of the North East and North West once and for all, the Federal Government has placed purchase orders for 40 helicopters for attack and transportation from the United States and Russia, DailyPost can report.

Reliable security sources confided in PRNigeria that some of the helicopters will arrive the country as early as next month, while the remaining will be received certainly before the end of the year to boost the Nigerian Airforce.

Some military and other security forces are currently frustrated about their inability to storm the notorious Sambisa Forest where Boko Haram militants are keeping the abducted Chibok secondary school girls and also serving as operational headquarters of the
group.

The reason, according to PRNIgeria findings is that security operatives are not only aware of the locations of the girls but are also closely monitoring the way that the girls are being moved around, hence they are afraid of the backlash should any harm befall the girls in the course of a forced rescue.

Past cases of attempts to rescue British and Italian nationals in Sokoto and SETRACO workers which boomerang are the reasons that the security forces have been reluctant in storming the forest and rescuing the girls.

Oh, I wish we could have a consensus of opinion from Nigerians that we should storm the forest and rescue the girls. The day Nigerians decide that enough is enough in one voice, to clear the forest will take less than one week,” a top security source bemoaned.

Already, security forces have succeeded in ridding Zamfara, Kaduna, Jigawa and part of Bauchi states of Fulani cattle rustlers. “These have been completely eliminated”, the source declared.

The officers gave the assurance that although, terrorism like any asymmetric wars have proven to be difficult to combat anywhere in the world, the Nigerian security forces would have found it easier to deal with, had there not been politicisation of the issue.

When u are positioned for instance at d equator and look towards the North pole it will seem as if the continents taper with increased offsets from the eaquator. This tapering results in an apparent reduction in size of the continents towards the North Pole.
Mercator projection was was used to correct for this effect. However it later came to the realization of cartographers that the Mercator projection has an over correction effect on the world map, thereby making the continents towards the North and South Pole bigger than they really are.
