As an aside, I created a cantilevered terrace above my front porch in the UK. To get the necessary sign off, the structural engineer’s calculations ran to 40 pages, all by hand!

Come and see dy/dx, partial differentials, torsional rigidity [/i]and all other [i]dogon turenchi. He is one off these old school Engineers - probably still cherishes his favourite slide rule.

That’s the big difference between using an engineer and using people who really know their job.

In one of the pictures I shared recently, we wanted to introduce 3 columns to provide support for a newly introduced slab.

We had to stop the project and waited almost six months for the structural engineer to come with a new structural drawing.

We eventually ended up adding just one column.

The structural engineer said “I’m doing my job. It wouldn’t be necessary if I wasn’t informed.”

Please post if you get better sleeve gates, need to replace a gate one of the supplier's driver here damaged few months ago.

I’ll have to check but here’s something I’m working on for a residential project.

The beauty of gates is in the thickness of the plates used. A 3mm thick plate will give you a very clean gate.

And of course, there are small terraces that the client might specifically request for support.

Often times, it’s what the client want. For such client, it’s better to be safe than sorry which is very true!

Yes! I think Naija welders are doing great. On the flipside, it’s very hard to get a reliable carpenter/woodworkers in Nigeria.

I always give my welders and carpenters ample time and all the needed resource/support to deliver a very good job. Though at extra cost

the welder did a fine job especially when it comes to finishing. But the job has taken a while in my opinion sha. It's more than two months I believe.

I think cement price is still stable here. I was on a project yesterday and we still got #2400. Though it’s a government project (Ogun state affordable housing).

45m build cannot be more than a 240m² duplex in Nigeria as of today. I believe N4,000,000 ($10k) which translates to an average of 40k supervision fee per day (assuming the lifetime of the project is 90 days) is good enough for a professional and engineer wey sabi.

Anything above that amount is way too much.

My Engr. said the least he can collect from me is 10%. He is highly experienced and very good in the field, he built my home country house for me around 2016 and the building is fantastic. In short he is very good and has many projects(private and government) he is handling currently.

- 7.5 - 8% of the total contract sum should be fine regardless of his expertise and the complexity of the project.

- Make installmental payments based on milestones achieved.

- Retain 20% holdback for 30 days after
completion of work.

You already made attempt to hypothesize by suggesting that the vault may have been taken to Orile Ilugun by crane. It is a good attempt at unravelling what really happened and how did the vault door get to Orile Ilugun?

Using basic logic to ask relevant questions searching for credible answers would surely help you to unravel what was being viewed as mystery: sighting the bank vault door far away from the original site without knowing how it got there.

Simple police investigation applying verifiable methods would unravel the mystery, and it is very possible the police and the bank already knew how it got there, and certainly it isn't by any juju or voodoo. The mysticism is just that you havent been told how neither did you care to really found out.

To say that 'the thing dey' simply means you took the easy option to join the bandwagon, which by your standard is most surprising.

I said 'most surprising' because if you (Brabus) believe or suspect that thieves may have moved the vault door effortlessly to Orile Ilugun, know how resourceful and innovative you are, you would have found an easy, practical and money saving solution to moving prefab steel mat or a complete cured prefab concrete slab on top standing reinforcements without using cranes. Really. Make them enter bank in the night where they don't need much effort to find raw loot. Usually the only security they would encounter is two police officers, then they can use the juju to locate, access, and open the vault and behold raw loot.

Millions of punters play daily or weekly lotto in Nigeria, America, Europe etc. Would the juju not be effective in winning these lotto. A bank in Orile Ilugun will never forget their experience.

I wouldn’t know if they’ve been able to carry away the door of the vault from where they thieves left it on the main road.
The vault door was there for several years and till date no one can understand how the thieves carried it without using a crane.

If you take a travel down to Orile Ilugun along Abeokuta road, Oyo state you can ask the resident about this story.

Poor proping , when the volume of the concrete is underestimated and the supporting props are inadequate in size or quantity.

I witnessed a casting where the labours in their quest to finish the casting made their way through the props by removing some of the props. Thank God it was noticed on time. The carpenter was called to replaced the removed prop to prevent collapse of the floor. And we told them not to remove or shift any prop again.

Thanks for sharing. Renting props in some cases can also cause this.

One site engineer decide to rent props from a carpenter for his project. The headroom was at 3m but the carpenter was only able to supply a 2.75m bamboo. So he decided to join the props.

The rest was history. The slab came down.
