michlins: Wrought iron is expensive something. Normally the rod comes in 10ft length instead of usual 18ft most rods come as. Na recently they started importing the 18ft wrought iron.
What you're looking at here is more than #4,500. Imagine if your rail needs like fifty of such Imagine if you have 5/16 inch forged steel hammered texture solid flat bar hand rail on it. Wrought iron is cool but every decorative elements on it are pricey. |

rotecch77: It’s a time consuming work. Here in Lagos and some part of Southwest I know very well you don’t need to waste much time to bend wrought iron into your desire shape just work to OWODE mile 12 area to get it ( that is if you are in Lagos or ogun and Ibadan) there others places too to get such.
Some guys/ old men there are specialized Only on wrought iron designs work. Just give them the design they will bring out the shape for you then your welder man will do the rest. Shikena Yes baba! rotecch77: You will find so many lovely designs in rough iron Do you know most welder run away from these designs because of what it takes (time and materials) to achieve them. Those little pieces are what makes wrought iron works unique and expensive_____ I was working on a gate last week. The time it took to bend 20 lengths of 14mm square rod into a perfect circle (Pic 3 below) was almost 2 days.

There's also the rear balcony which I might seal off with a hidden lock, (for security and emergencies) and will feature the wrought iron too. That's the window you referred to. Nezzjnr: No wonder the Prices aren't that high
I'm looking for lands within that OPIC side within the range of 5-7m In 2011, I bought a good land for $55k in Arepo. In 2013, a client bought Forthright Estate (just few kilometer to OPIC) for N15m I doubt you’ll see any good land for that price even if it’s far inside the murky Isheri. |

twinskenny: A client has to demolish his nearly finished building around That area. A big loss it is Yes bro! I’m still at loss as to how people make some decisions in life. Isheri to Ikeja - 15 mins (if you leave your house by 7am) Sagamu to Ikeja - 40 mins (if you leave your house by 6:30am) Isheri is sold 15 - 20m Sagamu is sold 500k - N2m (choicest location) Isheri is flood-prone. The soil is unstable and most projects on that axis requires soil stabilization. Even if you have the money to do your land, what about your Neighbour who chose to use Baba Taju? Sagamu is mostly solid ground. Isheri do not have any alternative road in case there’s roadblock/accident/or any crisis. Sagamu had numerous alternatives to get to various part of Lagos (Epe, Ikorodu, Ajah, Imota) and use the boat. I jejely just pick Sagamu and buy more land to keep when people start moving down In few years, the gridlock on the expressway will triple what we are currently experiencing in Apapa with the growing number of warehouses and industries springing up everyday without an alternative road. A lot of houses in that axis (except few parts of Arepo and some other estate’s) are already below the newly constructed expressroad and expected flood level. Pulling them down might only be the solution in the long run. The best time to buy land in that axis is now and you need to do physical inspection of facility. People always abandon their house when the flood arise. When I had to help a client buy a land in that axis, I went for the highest part of Arepo. I cannot comman throw away hard-earned $55k just like that. Shocking!!! You’ll spend more to build a solid foundation in that area than Lekki. Over to pros who have built on that axis. |

Nezzjnr: Do you know about the prices?? Not really sure of their price but what I know is there are 2 Sparklight estate on that road. 1. Sparklight Housing Estate opposite OPIC (beside Kara) 2. Gateway Sparklight opposite MFM in Magboro. I believe the one you’re talking about is Sparklight Housing Estate opposite OPIC, before Berger. The last time I work there, their price range between #15 - #20million per plot. Gateway Sparklight opposite MFM is between N5 - N10m ____ Both estate require a very solid foundation. A project we did almost 2km from both estate require deep pile and Sparklight OPIC side always take the worst hit of the flooding. |

EgunMogaji2: 1) it’s not what we think but what the engineer specified.
2) I’ve been in structured where the block was smaller than the pillar in certain areas.
I’ll defer to the structural engineer. I’ve built structures where block size had little or no significance but it has its own cost. Just as pascopele shared below: Pascopele: It is possible if the laid section is 460*230 instead of 150*460 if the standard dimensions of your block is 150*230*460. I had even 4in block in some section of this project but you’d hardly know the difference.

lastpage: Sir, l appreciate your post a lot. At the bolded though: Past African leaders left a lot for the latter generations to admire...until the White Colonialist came and Stole, plundered and destroyed that which they could not steal and take to Europe and Arabia.
Its a long story which cant be fully expoused on this thread but take for example, the Benin Artifact whose replica was used at Festac 77 symbol, that wonderful Artwork sits in a British Museam till today! It is among the millions of African heritage that the White Stole, leaving Africa beare to the bones. If White people could carry the Pyramid of Egypt, l bet you it will all be in Europe today, and not in Egypt. And legend even have it that they tried and looted the Tombs of the Pharaohs, with grave consequences at times. The Egyptians knew it will be looted and they did lay booby-traps at the entrances, which discouraged the White lootes a bit.
Maybe the current migration into Europe and the Americas will unleash "African colonialist" on Europe and the Americas, wo we can also pilage their 'legacies' and let us see how it looks, five hundred years from now.
America went to Libya and looted all its Gold, under the pretext of "Human right", just as the British say they would not return the Benin Bronze because "they are helping usto keep it".
You cant have all these white, rampaging looters running riot on your territory, and still expect to have your heritages intact..
Thank you for your post.

"There’s no bottom to how cheap you can build"
A house can be built with no supports, too small of a foundation, no building plan, no special windows or even 4 inches blocks to squeeze more space. It can be built on solid rock, unstable soil or on water (as they do in Makoko slum).
Develop a budget, but be careful not to make it too low. Essentially, do not get too caught up in how to make your home cheaper or put in on overdrive, stay focused on how to make you house a good investment. Don’t teach or introduce to your bricklayer/builder what you might end up regretting. ______ |

Godisgreatest1: I thank you all for your responses. I enquired about the size of blocks because I noticed that in architectural drawings, there are 'tiny' numbers (300, 225 and 150) in partitions or between rooms. So I only thought that using 150 represents 6" which may use up less land space.
So if 9" blocks are used for 8 partitions it means 300x8=2400 space used, but for 6" it will be 150x8=1800 space added to the building size. 2400-1800=600 worth of space. If the 600 is in mm, that is approximately 2ft difference between both blocks. Eh |

diordaves: These edificies are not built for the everyday economic reasons but as legacies to future generations. The location does not matter. Why village? These are private and sometime national edificies. These individuals are (were) wealthy, prosperous and politically powerful so they need to "history-stamp" their wealth and prosperity into the annals of human history and to put their "village" into the human (geographical) map.
Apart from the Pharaohs of Egypt, African Kings and Queens and wealthy individuals failed woefully in leaving legacies (edificies) for future generations. Take a look at Europe with all the grand palaces (Buckenham Palace, Windsor Castle) and landmarks (Eifel Tower) that are now hugely successful tourist attractions and then you will wonder what did our Kings and Queens do with the wealth of Africa. Mansa Musa of Mali was the wealthies man on earth to date but what are his legacies today? Think what if Mansa Musa had used all that gold to build (Buckenham) palaces and castles all over Mali, planned the city, build landmarks and structures just like the Pharaohs and pave the streets with gold and then the next generation took it to the nest level, Mali will be paradise today. African Kings were busy marying more wives with the wealth of Africa. One can't go wrong with properties, even white elephant properties.
I'm in support of these edificies where ever, as they are legacies to future generation. It is left for the "now" generation to take it to the next level. In Nigeria, we are poor in building legacy edificies and taking lagacies to the next level. Though some of the 1950s and 60s wealthy and prosperous generations in Nigeria left us some really encouraging legacies like Mapo Hall and Cocoa House (Ibadan), Government House, National Theater and Iddo Terminal all in Lagos, but what are we doing with them? All run down. We are squandering our wealth again just like our forefathers. Mind you these edifices were built then in "villages". It is not "money miss road". Take a look at the very poor, lame and inaccessible Aso Rock Presidential Palace and compare with the White House (USA) with its surrounding public park and you will know what lagacy is all about. Will Aso Rock as built EVER attract tourist and pay for itself? Time will tell.
If I'm so prosperous, I will build a stupendous edifice to the glory of the Most One, the Most High in Warri my "village" and hope the next generation will take it to the next level and not see it as a white elephant project. #stupendous |

Godisgreatest1: Hello, please can 6" Hole blocks be used for the ground floor of a story building of 4 units 2 bedroom apartments?. must it be 9" all through? Why? If the reason is to save cost, I think the savings is not worth the huge sacrifice. It’s like compromising on what should be quality upfront. - 9in blocks are more stable than 6in blocks (bending) - Better sound insulation - Easier conduit - Better support for vertical loads - You can build 9in blocks faster than 6in blocks If you consider the additional cost of building “Frame Structure”, then 9in blocks is far cheaper and more reliable than using 6in. |
Politics › I Will Remove Makinde In 2023- Adelabu by n3xt(op): 9:38am On Sep 25, 2020 |
The 2019 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State - Chief Adebayo Adelabu Penkelemes has declared he is happy that he didn’t win last year's gubernatorial elections against the incumbent Governor Seyi Makinde. He vowed to dislodge the governor in 2023.
Former Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria disclosed this in Ibadan on Thursday, during a media parley and lunch with journalists in commemoration of his 50th birthday anniversary.
According to Oloye Adelabu, losing the election has afforded him opportunity of knowing more about how progressive family in Oyo state operate.
In his words, "I will be a better governor in 2023 than 2019 because I have become wiser politically, closer to party leaders and grassroots politics. I can now relate well with the party faithfuls.
"My interest in contesting is existing and will never die. I’m so confident and optimistic we shall dislodge PDP-led government in Oyo State come 2023. With the ongoing reconciliation process within Oyo APC, no party can stand the way of APC, come 2023”.
Oloye Adelabu while reiterating his commitment to a better Oyo State, described Engr Seyi Makinde's administration as lacking foresight.
Reacting to the performance of the Makinde-led administration, Oloye Adelabu said nothing reasonable has been done since Makinde was inaugurated as the state governor.
According to him, “everything PDP government has been doing is not directly beneficial to the masses. A good government must understand the needs of the people which the current administration has failed to do. Philantropy is good but it should not be a basis for selecting a leader"
“It is evident that I will remove Makinde in 2023. He lacks ideas. Everything this administration promised the people of the state is still on their wish list 16 months after coming on board. With the calibre of people that have returned to APC, no party can stand the way of our party,” he said.
Adelabu stated further that no state needs a governor before salary is paid. "When salary is paid through statutory allocations and it goes straight to the Accountant General, they take it to the bank and they pay. Why must that be the major achievement of any governor?" he stressed.
“Makinde is decieving people with his populist programmes, which, in most cases, are not always giving the state sustainable development, it is more about immediate consumption. Populist programmes are short-lived. Within a short period, people will know that this man doesn’t really have so much to offer in terms of sustainable infrastructural development".
Adelabu, who promised to come back with full force vowed to dislodge the current government noted that the factors that led to Makinde's emergence are no longer available couple with the caliber of people that are in APC which will ease the taking over of government from PDP.
The Parakoyi of Ibadan land was full of thanks to God for sparing his life to reach 50 years, noting that his grandfather, Adegoke Adelabu and father AbdulRauf Adelabu, both died aged 43 and 33 respectively. Source: Facebook

The rich are not looking to conserve money, they want to flaunt it for the world to marvel as to how much they can afford to burn and when they are burning the money, it will be Ludacris to not achieve their goal of SHOW OFF.
If i ever become very wealthy, i plan to build a very tall high-rise in my village in Ogun state that will allow me to see Lagos from my Balcony. It will not make any economic sense, but it will be an Iconic Structure and a sort of Legacy of my to put my village on the map, way long after my dealt as an Engineer. It will inspire kids yet unborn to want to be an Engineer.
Point is that the wealthy should be allow to live their dreams as well; their needs and want will never be the same as a common man!!!
