gabbytabby: More like buying what we don't need to impress people who don't care.
Screeding is esthetics and nothing will happen if you don't do it. Those who make money will go into marketing on why its good to do it but that is to be expected na money in their pocket. Everyone is doing business. Screeding is a good way to hide imperfections but solid plastering is better. For me, screeding is no different from using excessive putty (body filler) on a brand new car. If you take time to get a good plastering, there won’t be need for screeding. _________ |

Also one of the things I do as MEP consultant is to design system in a way that will make the system to be easily maintained. This can only happen where you’re asked to do your job the way it should be done and not the way they told you to do it. |

walexProjects: 1.You can have a single water heater for your building. The only issue is that when the Heater needs repair or service,it will render all the rooms useless for that time. For Residential building - Average For Hotels - Please don't try it.
2.Thats why we have a VRF system.you can have as much 20 indoor units that are less than 4kw on a single outdoor unit. I did instant water heater jejely when it was still 7k. By the way, how much is instant water heater now? |

For me, i always love to try out something different from the regular. (& it has helped me lot) But my friends would usually call me a weirdo
i discovered some brands are just selling names, there are other brands that meet up to their standards & even better. In Nigeria the most Popular & most expensive brand is the best. You’ll always be tagged a weirdo if the creative juice in you is constantly flowing. |

UC92: Oga N3xt, I am interested in seeing how you will handle the green roof. What category of glass would you use for the rail bounding your roof garden? Being a design done by me, I already had in mind how I intend to handle the installation of the green roof and shared it with the client and LASG MEP Consultant for Approval before we even set anything in stone. Below is exactly what I’m replicating on this project. _______ The major work on the roof will be handled by the MEP guys. Thank God we have a good number of them here now.

jabberjawz: Nice one, my only issue with the door is the Medussa head design on the door.... would have been better without it.... would give it a 6 over 10.
Without the Medussa head design..... ratings would have gone a bit higher....
I see it a lot on peoples gate & it makes the gate look really local..... like Ekuké dog irrespective of the materials used in the gate design..... I understand your point bro. Would you believe I really believe don’t like casement windows? I prefer sliding or projected designs. Just like some people would rather live in Ibadan than live in Lagos. It’s all about our choices. What is pleasant to a man may be unpleasant to another. Thanks for the honest review. Duly noted. __________ The door below is in next in my plate. spyder880: I think it might be because of the cost. But I will ask some people that sell and install ACs, I will like to know what the total cost for central AC will be. Let me share this. Several years ago when I was still managing tech in some malls in Lagos, the central AC system at The Palms Mall developed fault and started malfunctioning. That period a lot of tenant and visitors wished a central system wasn’t installed because it took a lot of time before the technicians could rectify the fault and many of the tenants suffered a huge loss. Imagine being in a cinema without an AC. |

Mental Health Issues
Yesterday, my supervisor came to inform me that Peter (a very committed construction worker) started speaking incoherently and we may need to stop him from work.
Peter, a Pastor according to friends, was fully kitted in our health and safety kits but this kit wasn’t enough to protect him from anxiety and depression he’s facing as a result of stigmatization. So he decided to do drugs instead of talking to people again about his challenges.
Most health and safety policies in our companies focus on physical wellbeing of workers instead of becoming an open-book on addressing the mental health issues.
Creating enabling environment where every worker feel confident that the way they feel is okay and you're going to be supportive, not judgemental would help manage more mental health issues in our societies than spending heavily to protect their body while leaving their minds unguarded.
____
I’m not there to diagnose mental health issues. I’m there to quickly detect events of stressful life on my sites and counsel the person involved on the next steps to take.
I’d meet Peter later today.

Nero2424: There is a 90% chance you drive a Toyota car. The truth is, going with the crowd in Nigeria gives that sense of fulfillment directly or indirectly. This is how we are wired and it is the one ways we can show we have arrived.
If you look at yourself closely you find some of this traits in you. Yes to some extent but I’m a kind of disruptor and non-conformist though. Whenever I see myself exhibiting any of those unusual traits, I change the order of things and become the new norm. A few years back, one of my biggest boss (a structural consultant in one of my old project) visit my site in Lekki Scheme II, he saw me and waved me and went to meet one of my supervisors and asked him he’d like to meet the boss. He actually wanted to hire my steel shutters for foundation and columns. My guy met him and told him “You’ve just passed him now.” A typical naija engineer/contractor would buy a pickup truck and still be out there to borrow shovel and headpan. For the second time in one week, people have asked me if I’m building a gate for a company because the materials used for the construction aren’t cheap. I told them “I don’t know any other way to do it.” ____________ Pic - I’m gonna invest in this toy soon

Badgers14: Any idea/hypothesis on why this single units are not always used here in Nigeria?
Cc:N3xt A typical naija man by default would always think cost before benefit? What this literarily mean is that we believe a 10l capacity water heater at N30k is cheaper than a 100l capacity water heater at N120k. The first thing we always look at is the price tag. Most businesses understand this simple naija man mentality and this explains why our market is flooded with satchet drinks and daily need items. _________ On the other hand, we also consider ownership cost and cost of maintenance/replacement. __________ Lastly, we live for likes while looking for love. As the poster above me just shared, “I go dey look you like a spoiler” na him push many people to buy what they don’t need to impress the people they don’t like. “All room en-suite” “Water heater in all bathroom” “Turkey door in all room” “Gerald or nothing else” “Casement window or better. I’m not doing less ” I come in peace o. |

spyder880: I heard they are also very good like Ariston, but when I heard that many people have started to make fake Ariston with two 'R'. So I bought about 20 Sweethome since they are relatively new in the market, and since they will be trying to corner a good market share, I believed this first batch Sweethome manufactured will be a good quality.
