Sects and sectarianism is alien to Islam, this of course is common today as there are several groups referring themselves as sects in Islam as I previously mentioned.
These so called sects mostly have tribal and regional or racial colouring, at times it could arise from conflicts of interest (selfish), and in some cases conflicts regarding religious understanding, as the case of the shi'a.
But as I said earlier the teaching of our religion is clear and concise for those who would sincerely seek knowledge.

As a Muslim it's compelling that u be replied, there is only one Islam, there is nothing according to the traditions of the prophet and his companions SHI'A or SUNNI, they were all Muslims.
Now there are various sects that emerged over the years of which there are disagreements among them, but they still basically pray together and share the basics of the faith. The Shi'a on the other hand are a group of people whose true motives are unknown to all the other various sects, as their beliefs are completely alien to what Muslims believe, so basically to us Muslims the Shi'a isn't even a sect in Islam, they are completely out of it, they are more like a cancer that has been deliberately inserted in the mist of Muslims.
Not that I support any violent act towards them, but in most cases they are always the aggressors, intimidating and harassing anyone, acting with disregard to others rights etc, it is always a battle when they are in the midst of Muslims.

Islam spread across the world more through interactions between Muslim missionaries and their host communities, yes I know your initial thoughts were "Islam was spread by the sword" well that is a complete LIE.
The wars fought in Islam were mostly to guard against aggressors who were hell-bent on seeing Muslims do not practice their faith, and in societies were Islam was adopted as a state religion all other faiths were tolerated, that is why till today there are Christians in the Arab world etc.

With all due respect, most of the comments here are quite embarrassing, merging both religious studies and other subjects listed is a great idea, but does that mean Islamizing or Christianizing the students? No!
It's most likely an opportunity for us all to understand what are the basics of both religious teaching. Islamically understanding someone else's religion isn't a Bad thing at all, don't know for the Christians though, but I believe it's an avenue for us all to sit together and reason it out.

There is nothing as disappointing as the actions of our media outlets online and offline on this Yunusa and Ese's case!
I believe the young boy has been unfairly treated in this case. He's side of the story was never looked at, even when the sharia courts had faulted his actions based on Islamic teaching, our media houses ignored those aspects and made it look as if Ese was in chains, facts are emerging now that she was treated well while she was with yunusa, I hope the real truth about this case would be revealed sooner than later, and if yellow is found wanting he should face the consequences, and if some of the charges levelled against him is false those behind it shouldn't go unpunished.
