Sorry this is coming late.
My coz was delayed just for 1 reason.

"I am not satisfied that you have sufficient funds and available financial resources without working in Canada to pay for the course of study"

That was all. (Note: Coz's father passed away during his application process.)
My question is: Do the VO call Sponsor's place of work?

Thank you

I disagree with you. When u track ur application through the VFS platform, you will see a message saying your application is being processed in the Canada Visa Office, Lagos. Maybe they issue the visas in Accra but they are being processed in Lagos.
Visa application, tracking ID No.20141120GHANSTU***** is being processed at the Canada Visa Office, ACCRA

worry359:
Do not get complicated, just state that you have defered admission.
But only one week is very little time to get visa and ticket organised!
You may have to get your school to defere admission untill autumn.
Do not try travelling after the joining date that your school gave you, it risks rejection at P.O.E.
defer -- hmm maybe(you can get your ticket same day after visa issuance, if you have your money)
Bolded part --- not true
Technically... With a late arrival letter... you are good to go.
Words from a DSO states you can still come in within 30days of the last day listed on your i-20.(but a week or 2 is better, all heads are not the same.)

My bro, arrived 2 weeks late.

@omotolaboo, Please go ahead! wink

To the guy asking me not to be an a.s.s, you're just going to have to get used to my sense of humor. Its crude thats all. And i still maintain that Reekadohbanks of MAVIN is one ugly MF. Anyways back to the agenda..
Here's a fair warning for those that have just been granted F1 visas and are hoping to come to the US and survive on a job on campus. Be prepared for a rude shock. First of all, on-campus jobs only pay minimum wage ($8.25 if you're very lucky) and you can only work a maximum of 20 hrs per week (which isn't guaranteed you'd get that many hours anyways). So after your FITW (federal income tax withheld) your take home will be about $160 - $220 every month. That doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of the heap of bills you'd have to pay. Your phone bill alone is almost 1/3 of that. Add the cost of transportation (Yes, even public transportation is pricey) and food, and you're done. Remember that you'd have to pay rent. And if you're unlucky enough to find yourself in cities like Boston, NYC, DC, or Chicago, be ready to shell out 750-1200 dollars a month on rent for a 12x12 room that isn't half as big as your mother's pantry in Iyana Ipaja. Best advice: Be honest with yourself right from the beginning and have a game plan. If your parents are civil servants in naija and had to put all their savings together to buy your flight ticket, and your plan is to come and "hustle" your way through school, don't even waste your time. There's no "hustling" your way through their over-priced schools here. Its outrageously expensive, even if you get financial aid (before you start asking what that is, F1 visa holders are not eligible). F1 students cant legally get any jobs and eve if you get any under the table jobs, be ready to slave for some smelly pakistani who was wise enough to come here and open a pizza place.
So now you're probably asking yourself... so what can a man do?. Fear not my children, I've got the answer for you. There's no shame in sneaking into the US under the guise of a student visa. We all know that the mushroom schools in some nasty backwater town in Mississippi or Oklahoma(who effing goes to Mississippihuh!!!!!) that gave you I-20 isn't much better than UNN or UI, but at least it gets you in (I entered with I-20 from VIU!!!.. sweet lord!, I'd have to do a whole new post on that podunk wastebasket they call a university!). When you get here, don't be slow, your 2 years visa is going to expire even before you can spell VISA. The sooner you're able to become a permanent resident, the better for you (and I mean that with all my strenght!... ANother post on that will come soon). Life will be easier for you. Then you can figure out which school to go to that will work out for you. Most naija people here just do nursing. you'll get an associate in about 3 years and you'll get a job in a nursing home that'll pay you $15-25 an hr. Not bad right?. All I'm trying to say is that, you're way better off if you have a plan before leaving naija... if you're planning to "jama jama" or "rugged" your way through school with odd jobs, you're going to be more surprised than when you discovered your 100MB data is finished because you opened one website!... you get the gist.
lol... no matter what it is, you will survive!
Bolded part is the only meaningful thing i can see in your post!

MrArams: Dude use ur dad's statement of account, I'm in the same situation as u, I wonder why ppl here say such about fixed deposit, what if the amount in d fixed deposit is "HUGE" resulting to higher monthly dividends as compared to another applicant with a current/ savings account with just 5mil would d VO prefer option A or B, abeg fixed deposit, current or savings account all the same, what matters is that the account is capable of paying your bills. My own opinion.

You guys are always so quick to criticise the thread nd yet come here for every single questions you've got. The dude neva said he got the info/idea from NL.
NOTE: Opinions from NL or anywhere else are not always accurate or final

Hmmm... I know when i ask my questions, i can either get "read from page 1" or get "we have answered that already"
Please for the sake God, if you know your answer would be one of the above, bypass my quote.

Its been years since i went through the Canadian process.
What i am majorly concerned about is the Visa process in Nigeria, the pricing and all needed. How many weeks before resumption should they apply/would be too late to apply. If i can remember, 3months? don't know if that's still correct. I went through the pages and i really don't have that much patience to read through. Wahala yankee ti kpoju!!
I intend sponsoring my brothers to study in Canada also with the help of Dad. One of them going for Bsc and the other Msc.
I was able to apply for the Bsc candidate but would like some schools that will accept a student for Msc for Health related program without TOEFL because at this time, he's not taken TOEFL and looking to begin early next year.
I will appreciate your response.

Tochium: The cheaper the less the standard
The University of Michigan—Ann Arbor, University of Virginia and the University of California—Los Angeles, for example, all rank among the top 30 universities in the country and offer prices below $13,500 for students lucky enough to live in those states(evidently not internationals). That is a bargain when compared with the more than $40,000 tuition rates at similarly ranked private institutions such as Carnegie Mellon University or the University of Southern California.

Yvete: You've got many things to work on my dear, many. Though, it seems like nervousness got in the way and you said things you shouldn't have.

1. BigFrancis is right about family ties.
2. Inconsistency with your DS-160 and what you mentioned to the VO. (Maybe Nursing on Ds-160 or I-20 and you mentioned Biotech)
2. Do you guys read reviews about these schools before you apply?? Brookhaven and El Centro are both under the Dallas Community College System, but two different counties. Why would you apply to 2 Colleges in the same district knowing that these are commuter campuses. The issue of Community Colleges have been discussed in previous posts. Go back to a couple pages. There are many good schools in the Dallas Area. Try UNT, TWU, UT Arlington, Texas Tech. You can always transfer to DCC later.
4. I could also guess that you did not write any tests.

You need to read the entire thread to get it. You were not prepared.
lol

jasmine21: Wow really? Thank u so much. I pray my own works out as fine as yours and they don't even ask me at all. What scares me is d different middles names in GRE n Toefl. I hope d school & embassy r used to problems like this sha.
Name Change lipsrsealed I hate that thing!!!

shoggie: Hello house! I have this particular question that is bothering me personally.
Here it goes :
The statement of Account I submitted to my school for I-20 bears my Brother Company’s name
And the money there covered the duration of my Masters program with some dollars in excess.
But my major head ache now is that my brother has not gotten contracts as such from Oil Company in the last two months as the contracts are seasonal. The last statement of account I collected from him which I submitted to my school ended with mid-september transactions. But now the money in the account is far less than the former one I submitted to the school.
My questions now is can I used the same one with September dates for my interview or I should try and seek other means but I have already specified on my DS-160 that my brother will be my sponsor? What will be implications of mentioning another person as a sponsor in addition to my brother should they asked for my sponsor?
I need your candid advice as I have patiently written all the exams (GRE & TOEFL), even made effort to get admission in the top hundred out of best 1,500 from US news report on University rankings.
Gurus in the house help me out as I am very new to all this visa stuffs though I have read almost all the posts now and more comfortable than I do before end of last month when I came across this Blog.I should be obliged to your response in advance.
Waiting!!!!
Sir Shoggie, First of all, make sure you remember details you filled on your DS160. Try am make sure there is no conflicting lipsrsealed. concerning your brother as sponsor, i would advice, stick to that and to have his statement topped up, email me at nairaspace at yahoo.com

To all that was refused and incase you dont know. If you want to fill your ds160 with the same information you filled at the first interview, retrieve your submitted form by the following steps.

get to DS160 page, select the location and click retrieve application.

put in your old application ID and select continue, answer your normal security questions and continue, it will notify you that you already submitted, either print the confirmation page or start a new application.

Select start a new application. this time it will ask you to create a new security question and it will bring your old ds160 data on a new DS160 application id.

Then you can input this new application id when booking for another appointment.

Hope that helps,

@Shoggie, dont forget to email me.
