YoursGEJ: All of you that are speculating on his tribe as the most important thing should close your worm-infested mouths and shove your comments up a place where sunlight does not get to. Why can't you ask about his agenda or plans? Forget corruption and bad leadership, I swear the masses constitute a majority of the problem this country is facing. Alright regarding previous occupants of that seat, I can bet that most of you cannot name a single thing that they contributed to the community or a bill they have sponsored in the house. But you'd rather let them continue unchallenged in their position. Why? Because both of their parents are Lagosians. Imagine that your car broke down and what is most important to you is whether the mechanic that is trying to fix it is from your village even though all the previous mechanics who have tried but failed to fix it were all from your village. This politics of tribalism has led Nigeria nowhere especially under this current democratic dispensation. When military regimes used administrators from other parts of the country to rule a state, Nigeria saw more development that indigenous politicians have never been able to replicate be it at the federal, state or local level. ![]()

cool, but this sounds more like an opinion piece than a fact-based one (at least for about half of them). |

collinsobinna: I think the iPhone 6 is a good phone and ahead of its peers. That is exactly where the problem is. ALL these things have been available on Android phones for years. ALL OF THEM. |
Amya: So hype moves you? You won't purchase the phone because of it's features, rather you'll do so because of hype. SMH for this generation.Unfortunately, that is what gets the majority of people into these devices. The Hype. No one on this planet does that better than Apple. @Topic In my 9-5 days as a Business Specialist, i was actively involved in the launch of all iphones from the 3Gs to the 5s/5c. I can tell you that about 8 out of 10 people who desperately want an iphone have no clue why they want it (first-hand information). I have seen this scenario play out year after year. Admittedly, the original iphone (2G) was a game changer, and ushered in something seemingly fresh and new. The 3G raised the bar a little higher and the 3Gs was.. meh.. The iphone 4 (2010) came close to offering something new on "mainstream" phones. It offered a front-facing camera with its Facetime. (keep in mind less popular brands like Sony Ericsson have had front facing cameras since 2003). -------About this period, people started exploring Android phones more actively. The 4s was a waste of time and energy. People still queued for days. The iphone 5 had a new look, and some subtle new features (playing catch-up with Android devices). The 5s was well,... the iphone 5 with a spray tan. The 5C was the iphone 5 wearing a cheap and colorful Walmart suit. I got to see and try out every iphone from the 3Gs to the 5s before they were launched, and my reaction at each briefing was always the same.. "WTF is this?.. are we moving back in time or what." Regardless of Apple's lack-luster specifications, unnecessary proprietary accessories and interface, they do have pretty looking phones of superior body build (except the 5C with its Walmart suit). Really, Iphones are just like the beautiful blond girl with nothing in her head. |

I have been on Nairaland since it started in 2005 (this is one of my website's account). The "secret" to Seun's Nairaland success isn't rocket science. A few things played an active role: 1. Timing- In 2005, an organized discussion board was not a mainstream Nigerian online activity. Seun took it upon himself to create one which wasn't focused on a small niche, but encompassed an entire discussion spectrum in the Nigerian context. FYI the original Nairaland was an SMF forum, which is a free open source script. This means you can create a site that looked exactly like it within 10 minutes, and call it Nairaworld or whatever. 2. Perserverance- A few other Nigerian discussion boards sprang up at about the same time, but their admins weren't patient enough to see it through. Managing a new forum can be a very depressing activity. You create multiple threads in the hope that someone finds it interesting enough to say something.... Anything! This is the stage so many give up. They find themselves essentially coming to the site daily to delete spam posts by bots posting viagra ads. They get tired of it, and move on. This applies to almost any kind of business. If you don't have the patience, discipline and motivation to keep going in bleak circumstances, then you'll never see the end of it. While these are only a broad snapshot of his "secret," it gives you a general idea of what he would have told you. Here is an archive of Nairaland in March 2005, when this all started. You can actually browse through it. Nairaland As of that day, Nairaland could only boast of 15 members and 13 threads . That's what you call.. coming a long way. |

i don't know how i feel about this, but if it is indeed restricted to unmanned drone strikes, then... Light em' up! |
cool. Although many of them aren't exactly surprising or unusual. captions befitting the thread title would be more like: - Chief Zebrudaya singing a duet with Miley Cyrus -2005. - Paris Hilton and Aremu Obasanjo cultivating yams at Otta farms - 1996. |
alotofgrace: pls tell me what u did Gudintent: So what do you do now 10-6, 8-4, 7-3, half hour +or- each wayNow, i do 9 to life. Honestly, i now literally work round the clock. But there is a major difference. Now, i do everything at MY OWN time. I invested the larger part of my income through the years of my 9-5. I set up a few businesses (In Naija and here). It takes a lot more hours to see to a smooth running of these things, but no matter how much work it requires, it does NOT feel like work. When i get tired, i take a break. I am not answerable to anyone. I live a half mile from the beach (it is literally on my street). Do you know how nice it is to be able to windsurf at the beach on a MONDAY morning? By this time last year, that was practically impossible, and would have made a nice joke. At some point in my career, i used to drive a total of 120 miles (193 KM) 5-6 days a week (to and from work). I eventually moved closer after a year of it, but that only cut the commute in half. I still did 60 miles every day. The crazy goal requirements of my job, coupled with my own investment activities was slowly killing me. Not only health-wise, but also socially. I had no time for anyone or anything outside work activities. At the beginning of last year, my doctor said i was "hypertensive." Which was insane as i was 27 then. That was when i knew this ship had to be docked. I made my last moves at my job and put in my resignation to coincide with my birthday toward the end of last year (that was my best gift to myself.. ever!) I'm focusing on my company full time. I do have a number of employees in my Lagos and Abuja businesses that were hired from Nairaland. Right now, as i type this, it is 4:33 a.m. My new life has no respect for time per se, and i love it. When i'm not doing serious stuff, i can be found posting the silliest comments on Nairaland (in all the broken English i can muster), and also on the Na Laugh website. I have come to appreciate the need to let loose, laugh and live life. The darn thing is too short. I know this is a much longer response than you expected, but yeah.. that's what it is ![]() |

KEEP YOUR HANDS TO YOURSELF – After eating his popcorn off his date’s cleavage, a friend of mine decided to venture further with his hands. He had depended on the darkness of the cinema hall for cover but clearly underestimated the presence of ‘men of God’ in everything Nigerian. A hand grabbed his advancing fingers from behind and declared in a clerical voice: “You shall come forth but no further. Salvation is better than earthly desires!” You may hold hands, or sling your hands across shoulders, but that’s about it!In other news: Akpos was very drunk, and was with his girlfriend in a cinema watching a movie. He suddenly fell asleep. After a while, he woke up and started shouting, “MY PENIS!… MY PENIS!” Everyone was surprised. He continued, “Where is my penis! Someone has cut my penis and my nuts! Oh shitt! where the hell is my penis??” His very embarrassed girlfriend quietly said to him, “Shut up you f00l!.. your hand is in my panty!” |
For years i found myself caught up in the madness of the 9-5. I had to hit the reset button and reconfigure all of that. Now, i'm good. ![]() |
