Ill-informed, uneducated people would be the ones making noise and in their mind, believe they take decisions on behalf of people who have nothing to do with them.
What this one is saying is just abstract and nonsensical.
The people who the Romans named 'Palestinians' during their era of conquest were not Arabs.
Rather, they were a mix of different people due to displacements and migration, who over time have mixed with the natives 'Israelis'.
The only groups of people waging a 'religious' war are external influences such as Iran, Syria, etc who sponsor groups such as hamas and hezbollah, just as they do in some African Countries.
overall90: Ikwerre? Let's assume you are ikwerre, please how many oil wells are in ikwerre land? Small Obigbo have more oil wells than all the ikwerre local governments put together, not to talk of Etche,Omuma, Egbema etc.
With such statement, any discerning mind would know what the interests of biafra agitators are. Resources.
Roger3D: Kanu was definitely lying. How can any government anywhere in the world offer up it's territory to a single group with no army? You guys believe a lot of rubbish
That was one of the most ridiculous lies the ipobs deceivingly told themselves.
jackmrandy: drive the whole of first, second and third east circular road, you are sure to get it from any of the amentioned. time yourself also. anything from 1pm to 6pm.. Ringroad is there not to mention New Benin. waka you will get it...
DodadaKoKigbe: This is a dream come true for me. The people that hate Yorubas the most in Nigeria are Igbos and Edos. This is why I FULLY support Edo to be part of Biafra. Edo MUST join Biafra.
Which Edos hate Yorubas? We can't hate our brothers. Edos have no animosity towards any tribe, that's why it's home to everyone. But it seems certain persons mistake this as a form of weakness.
And wetin concern Edo with biafra?
Comedians!
This should be the first and last time that schizophrenic hiding in Finland includes the great Edos in his skits.
The minister would definitely have more information regarding this matter than most of us online.
Besides, this has been a topic for a while.
Despite the so-called UN agencies and the likes, no impact felt in the society by the average Nigerian.
If the issue is found to lie with our local personnel or agencies, then fine. It must be tackled appropriately. Especially with the issue of corruption.
Many of the so-called 'average Nigerian' are far worse than the politicians. Na opportunity they never get.
TheOldGods: Nobody is talking about the big Elephant in the room, which is lack of electricity. This week I've spent 58,000 naira on fuel for my generator for work, that is full tank for alot of cars every week, and the car owners are complaining, what about us that need Electricity to work. I barely get 6 hours of electricity, I tried buying solar, but the conditions are too much, turn off this, turn this on, don't use this bulb. Mehn, plus I can't turn on AC while working. Since my work is from home I decided to buy a laptop worth 1million here on Nairaland (thanks to Nairaland )just to ease my work, atleat I get 4 hours of break in severe heated room with my laptop.
How else can someone survive in this country with this low electricity, is there any state that is better? Or is it a must I have to travel to another African country just to get simple electricity to work. My generator just went off and my fuel gone, that why I came here to rant. I'm going to buy feul at 615 naira per litre
Peter1960: It's shameful that people still like you have not learned a less since the past 8 years of APC as a government, the MoU brought about 2 modular refineries, 1 independent power plant, Ethanol Processing Plant, Benin City Mall, MOWAA, and many more
The funny thing is when all these MOUs were signed, the governor was in the APC. But today, Edos have not seen one product or benefit of all these 'projects' listed.
Abagworo: The relationship between Agbor, Ika and Benin is that of conqueror and freedom from conquerors. Agbor and Ika in general are ancient Igbo settlements that existed as old as when Benin was founded as a Kingdom and later as an empire that ruled them at one time or the other but they always matched Bini fire for fire. Chima as the name indicates was an Igbo man in Benin empire which is not disputable. If you understand Ika language then you can listen to this loud declaration.
Eze Chima was a chief priest born in Aro in present day South East who paid homage to the Oba of Benin (just as others from various parts of the Country and beyond do up till this day). He was even gifted lands by the Oba. Eventually, had to exit after an issue with the Oba and Edos, and ultimately settled around where Agbor is. Just a brief summary.
seunmsg: While I take no side in the conflict, it’s better to understand the issues before rushing to take side.
The entire Middle East is a mess that may never ever see peace as a result of the manipulation of the west. The country called Isreal never existed until 1948. Before 1948, Palestinians were the ones living in most parts of Isreal. After the holocaust and Second World War, America decided to move Jews back to the current Isreal location based on biblical history that Isreal once occupied the place. So, they simply hijacked the land from the occupants and took over forcefully. The need to also have a western ally control some historical religious sites that are important to both Christians and Jewish religious was also a factor in the forceful occupation.
The west did the same thing with Saudi Arabia after the First World War. The country called Saudi Arabia today never existed until it was created with the use of force by US backing a rogue mafia family called House of Saud in 1918 to form Saudi Arabia and take over the Islamic holy sites from Turks and Persians.
The 1948 Isreal border was a very controversial one that was a bitter pill for a lot of neighboring Arab and Islamic countries to swallow. This led to the 6-day Arab war in 1967. Isreal won the war but instead of being magnanimous in victory, they decided to expand their 1948 boundary and then took over almost all of Palestinian land. They also took total control and of the Gaza Strip by imposing complete blockade since then.
When the two state option was proposed, Isreal opposed it because recognizing Palestine as a country simply means Isreal will have to lift the rogue blockade of Gaza Strip and lose the right to invade the country at will. So, we have a people who can’t move freely on their land, can’t do anything without Isreal approval, are just locked up within their own land for no reason other than Israel’s need to exist.
So, above is what led to the creation of HAMAS. A group of freedom fighters created to fight the forceful occupation of Palestinian territory by Israel. China, Russia, Iran and a lot other other countries recognize HAMAS as a freedom fighting movement while Isreal and her western allies have tagged HAMAS a terrorist organization.
Like I said, I’m not taking a side. It’s left for the rest of humanity to look at the situation and collectively take the right decision for all sides.
It was Arabs who rejected the Two-state solution, not Israel. This led to the first Arab-Israeli war in 1948.
slivertongue: Hamas is a terrorist group and ain't a state actor but sadly their henious actions is getting support from state actors. The implications is grave on the Palestinian state.
Exactly!
To think they even forced themselves into leadership following a civil war (Fatah-Hamas war) with the support of external interests, the Palestinians have been really disadvantaged.
Biodun556: Hamas mearly tried to reclaim what belongs to Palestine. The attack is not on Israel soil.
The so called southern Israel settlement has been condemned by UN several times
By ambushing and raping unarmed civilians and tourists. After forcing themselves into leadership, Hamas has been a poor representation of the Palestinian people.
Kubernetes: For Northerners,it could be because of the 95% Muslims and few 5% Christians in Palestine who are innocently killed by the Israelis. One would assume the Southerners like Israel because of the high Christian population over there but on the contrary, the 75% Jews, 20% muslims and 5% Christians.
Above all, i am sad and disappointed by the UN, NATO etc for not enforcing a two state solution living side by side peacefully.
A two-state agreement was reached in 1947 with Jerusalem and sites such as the Temple Mount declared as International zone, but external influences from some Arab states such as Lebanon, Jordan and Egypt led to an unwarranted war, with Israel ultimately expanding their borders into areas that were even agreed to be Palestinian territory.
With every attack on Israel, following retaliation, occupation of the area takes place. This may be a way of preventing/weakening the potential of future attacks.
Note that Countries such as Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt and Syria would find ways to negotiate with Israel to reclaim their post-war occupied lands, but sponsor militias such as Hamas which only leads to continued occupation of Palestinian lands and migration of Palestinians to other Countries.
Hamas (a militia group) does not represent the general opinion of Palestinians. A lot of Palestinians are disturbed by all these and another cycle of mass migration would occur with loss of lands which may be difficult to reclaim in the next 50 to 100 years.
Folks should also note there is no clear distinction between Palestinians and Israelis. They are brothers who in reality live together with large families having mixed identities. Most of these conflicts are instigated by political and religious interests.
The best solution would be to revert to the 1947 Two-state agreement and impose heavy sanctions and change of leadership on any state/country who sponsors or promotes any form of conflict in the region.
Gajagojo: That area used to be known as Palestine under the control of the British until 1947
The population was about 1.5 million of which less than 20% were Jews
When World War two ended
The British and Americans decided to compensate Jews in Europe who were victims of Hitler's genocide by relocating them to Palestine, grabbing land and rendering many Palestinians as refugees thereby creating the state of Israel in 1947
The Palestinians have continued to resist that to this day
Imagine if the Nigerian state did that to Benue People and created a Fulani enclave there. Would you expect them to go away and be quiet?
The 'Jews in Germany', were they Germans? If not, where were they from?
With what is happening today, right before you, Palestinians will get displaced, many will move to other States/Countries. Over time, they or their descendants would return to reclaim their lands. Will you then label them 'Palestinians in Cyprus that were relocated to...'?
A good understanding of the history of that part of the world would provide a clear, non-biased picture of the situation. That area has been the most invaded, conquered place with multiple wars. From the Greeks, Persians, Romans, Ottoman Turks, then the British. With every war cycle and post-war events, there must be mass migration. That should explain how Jews in Germany (and other parts of the world) came about.
Also, with the establishment of a new empire, historical sites such as the Temple Mount were laid claim to and put to different uses. That's why Jews, Muslims and Christians today consider these sites as their historical and pilgrimage sites.
It has to be understood there is no clear distinction between these people (Israelis or Palestinians); a Jew is the one who practices Judaism, a Christian is the one who practices Christianity and a Muslim is the one who practices Islam. A Palestinian is the one who was named so by the British Romans.
