It seems she doesn't understand the functions of her own office. She expects the FCT Minister to report to her? Does her State governor report to the senators before decision making? |
Wike has been meeting with the locals, working with security agencies and directly with his boss, the President in order to find solutions to these challenges. If she as a legislative has some contribution to make, she no sabi the FCT Minister Office? What practical steps has she made to reduce the rate of insecurity? |
Commendable |
And the likes of this Adesina was in government for 8 years. |
Good |
These kidnappers who have used the forests (which span across various State borders) as safe havens have been operating for the past 8 years at least. And one fact remains most of them are non-Nigerians, though they have a few local conspirators. The approach to curbing this challenge would primarily require converting large portions of these forests to viable socio-economic ecosystems. First of all, military bases should be sited within these areas; no more military bases within the towns. This improves security within these areas. Newer technological methods such as drones, surveillance cameras, etc as mentioned in this thread can be employed here. The government (Federal and State) would collaborate to put infrastructure in place within these areas: Roads, Power, Water supply systems, Layouts, etc. These alone would attract investors to such areas especially those seeking large expanse of lands. I've partaken in projects getting such investors who look for such opportunities to develop industrial hubs, factories, etc. This would also create opportunity for large Agricultural areas or districts; local consumption and export opportunity. Mining opportunity in areas which have deposits. Should be properly regulated and monitored by the government. Opportunity in the Tourism industry. Well-controlled and monitored Forest reserves. In addition to eliminating the safe havens used by criminals, such system boosts economic status, creates employment and productivity and a very efficient surveillance system. The political will of not only the government, but of the people, in especially holding those in government accountable irrespective of whatever affiliation is required for such changes to take place. |
NSE (Nigerian Society of Engineers) Congrats! |

By Taiwo Amodu and Idahosa Moses THE All Progressives Congress National Working Committee has said its Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for aspirants seeking to pick its ticket ahead of September Governorship election in Edo state is open to all contenders. National Publicity Secretary of the party, Barrister Felix Morka made the clarification at the weekend in a statement. Sunday Tribune checks revealed that the pronouncement by the national secretariat of the party was to preempt move by a former national chairman of the party and Senator representing Edo North, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole to prune the number of aspirants to seek for the party ticket to six. A party source revealed to Sunday Tribune that certain aspirants not in the good book of the former Edo State governor were already smarting for a showdown with Oshiomhole in the event that the Abdullahi Umar Ganduje led NWC allowed him to shut out some aspirants under the guise of seeking for a formidable candidate. The APC primary is fixed for February 3. Morka maintained in his statement that ” all interested aspirants are to make prescribed payments into the Party’s approved bank accounts, and collect their Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms from the Party’s National Secretariat. ” The statement reads in part:” The All Progressives Congress (APC) wishes to clarify that the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for the Edo State Governorship Election is open, available for purchase and collection to ALL interested Party Aspirants. “Screening and clearance of aspirants will be undertaken by a committee to be constituted by the National Working Committee (NWC) in accordance with the Party’s Constitution. Ruling “As stipulated in the released APC Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the Edo State gubernatorial election, all interested aspirants are to make prescribed payments into the party’s approved bank accounts, and collect their Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms from the party’s national secretariat. ” Meanwhile, a group under the aegis of Concerned Edo All Progressives Congress (APC) Stakeholders has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the party’s National Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, to as a matter of urgency call Senator Oshiomhole to order over his alleged plot to scheme out some aspirants from the Edo State Governorship contest. The group, which stated their position in a press release made available to journalists in Benin, alleged that if Oshiomhole is not restraint by the leadership of the party, the APC would be plunged into what they described as unnecessary crisis before the September 21, 2024 Edo guber poll. According to the group, Oshiomhole does not have the authority to constitute a screening committee as he is neither the national chairman of APC nor a member of the NWC, noting that only aspirants, who have completed and submitted their forms, can be screened by the committee established by the NWC. The group said: “The Concerned Edo APC Stakeholders would like to clarify and correct the false alarm and wrong impressions being peddled by enemies of the APC in Edo State regarding the rumoured report of a committee set up to interact with Edo 2024 APC governorship aspirants. “In line with the NWC’s guidelines, a consultative meeting was held with stakeholders of the party from Edo State on Monday, January 15, 2024. “During the meeting, the stakeholders were urged to unite in trimming the number of aspirants due to the large number of individuals vying for the party’s ticket in Edo State. “The APC state leader, Comrade Senator Adams Oshiomhole, set up a six-man committee to interface with the aspirants and make recommendations on how the number could be reduced. “The committee was not a screening committee as that is the prerogative of the APC National Working Committee. “Edo people were shocked when the news broke out that this Oshiomhole committee had initially recommended ten names among the aspirants and on meeting with Comrade Oshiomhole was told to further remove some names and make the total six,” the group stated. Continuing, the group said, “We would like to state for the records that Comrade Oshiomhole does not have the authority to constitute a screening committee as he is neither the national chairman of the APC nor a member of the NWC.” “Furthermore, only aspirants, who have completed and submitted their forms, can be screened by the committee established by the NWC for this purpose. “The scheduled date for the screening of aspirants, as outlined in the approved timetable by the NWC, is between 8th and 9th February 2024. The Oshiomhole committee unlawfully assumed the functions of the NWC and was unfortunately coerced by Comrade Oshiomhole to submit a report in variance of their earlier recommendation which is in the public domain. “We hereby call on the national chairman of the APC, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and other well-meaning party leaders in Edo State and across Nigeria, to intervene and restrain Senator Oshiomhole and his co-travelers. The APC in Edo State should not be plunged into unnecessary crisis ahead of the 2024 governorship election.” The group added that: “It is worth noting that Senator Oshiomhole’s previous usurpation of nomination powers, as witnessed in the nomination of Godwin Obaseki and Philip Shuaibu as governor and deputy governor respectively in 2016, resulted in the party’s opposition status in Edo State today. It is evident that he intends to repeat this indelible error in 2024.” “It is common knowledge that Senator Oshiomhole has a personal interest in who becomes the Edo State governor. We, therefore, reject Senator Oshiomhole’s undue influence and demand that he stays clear of the Edo 2024 APC governorship primaries. “The Concerned APC Stakeholders remain committed to the principles of fairness, equity, and justice in the party and sincerely hope that this matter can be resolved amicably for the betterment of the APC and the people of Edo State,” the group concluded. https://tribuneonlineng.com/edo-gov-primary-apc-nwc-wades-in-voids-screening-of-aspirants/ https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2024/01/20/edo-guber-call-oshiomhole-to-order-apc-stakeholders-tell-tinubu-ganduje |
No sense in such statement. So those who were able to build illegal structures, claimed government lands and distorted the FCT plan suddenly turned to kidnapping as a source of livelihood? Wike, fire down! These kidnappers who have used the forests (which span across various State borders) as safe havens have been operating for the past 8 years at least. And one fact remains most of them are non-Nigerians, though they have a few local conspirators. The best aspirant so far. |
matiandu:Mawa is the father 'surname'. He was the one who found the land. The Ijaws are around the coastal areas of Madagali. |
Yinmu Nigerian politics don grow pass these old gimmicks at least na. Philip Shuaibu is too desperate. This format to whip up sentiments is obsolete and Edos are far more advanced than this. The other day he called one of the aspirants an 'outsider' just because he was based outside Edo State; that's unintelligent and desperate. |
LOL. FCT minister is just an administrative head, and not directly in charge of the security of the nation's capital. You have the NSA, DSS, Headquarters of the Armed forces, National Guard, na FCT minister you dey call? ![]() |
This cannot be 'historic footage'. This is a dramatization or probably a movie. When was the camera invented? When was slave trade abolished? |
ekelebeXstunner:These 'kidnappers' are not the regular Evans-type of kidnappers. These are terrorists who destroy communities to take over. Majority of them are not even Nigerians, but have collaborators even placed in government. Apart from receiving ransom, they aim to instill fear and displace Nigerians from targeted lands. Authorities from the UAE revealed some of the enablers of these terrorists to the last administration. Nigerians got no sensitization from the government, no prosecutions, and terrorist activities even increased. |
tuzle:Definitely. And he will have to make very drastic decisions to tackle this menace. |
tuzle:My brother, this is not comparable. Those cases in the US are isolated cases. In Nigeria, these criminals who qualify as terrorists have camps with hundreds of abductees, and this has been going on for at least the last eight years. In addition, these are the same groups who attack and destroy communities, especially those believed to rich in certain mineral or land resources. |
This is sad and extremely disturbing. What's happening with our security agencies? Haba! This is not one sporadic incidence, it's been happening for almost a decade especially around that axis. Even travellers using that route which links to Jere have been attacked and even killed on an almost regular basis. These activities extend to Southern Kaduna, Plateau, Niger, Benue, Zamfara. They are not unrelated. With the current advancement in technology and intelligence, is the problem our personnel? Abi have these bandits and criminals been recruited into our security agencies, especially when considering the level of nepotism in the last administration? Our policies and laws, are there deficiencies which need to the corrected? The onus is on the government of the day to crush these criminals along with their enablers and collaborators. An overhaul of the leadership of not just security agencies, but in other key sectors is needed as the banditry and terrorism which have ravaged many parts of the country have collaborators in these places. No person(s) should attempt to hold the country to ransom. Particularly, the mining and resource development sectors must be strictly controlled by the government. |
Toh! Happy stay in India. You don be permanent resident. Thankfully, these ones no dey mete out capital punishment. This definitely goes beyond economic hardship as a causative factor and the trend seems to get worse. Just within one week, at least 3 cases have been reported here. |
Running mate to who? Abi na appointment? |
Unfortunate criminals I know persons who have been victims of these one-chance criminals in Abuja. Especially from Area 1 and Berger axis, they pick unsuspecting victims, even innocent students. |
You were advised multiple times to calm down, shove this ambition aside. No room for such megalomania in Edo. Equity must prevail and the best qualified will be presented at the ballot. Rather you should feel betrayed by those who pushed you into this selfish misadventure. |
Seems everyone's focussed on Betta Edu. I thought there was another one who moved billions who was suspended earlier. Investigations should conclude before issuing statements. |
PaChukwudi44:Friend? He is a Brother to the Yorubas. |
VinnyBaba:True. Edos are one people, but for Equity sake, such leadership roles should be rotated amongst the senatorial zones. Apart from Prof Osunbor who served for a few months following the 2007 elections, the last governor from the zone served in 1983 in person of Prof Ambrose Alli whose legacies are acknowledged up till this day. |
Confam! |
No lies here. Increasing numbers of people get sensitised by the day. |
Funny though. So if a recurrent trend with certain demographic attributes is observed, instead of identifying aetiological factors and seeking solutions, we'll all pretend and keep mute ![]() What of Good News and achievements, will anyone be banned for appreciating a particular tribe? |
Stevosty:Esans and 'Binis' were never different people. |
martineverest:Esans, Bini's, Afemais are the same people. Ighodalo or Ighodaro is the same name, has the same meaning, and used by Edolites irrespective of senatorial zone. |
