PoliticsRe: Northern Govs Say Zoning Is Unconstitutional by naso2(m): 9:57am On Jul 28, 2010
cre8tivity:
do not forget that jonathan became our president today only because of zoning arrangement. and zoning was recognized up until yaradua died.
jonathan himself will even agree that zoning was in place when he became the vp and in fact it was part of the plans why he was picked as the vp.
Before i say anything here, can you do me the favour of explaining what you mean by the text in bold?
PoliticsRe: It May Be Ribadu And Oshiomhole For AC as Tinubu Drops Out . by naso2(m): 9:07am On Jul 28, 2010
Gbawe my guy, are'nt you working too hard here?

The Ribadu/Oshiomole ticket will not sell beyond lagos and edo state. Besides Adams will not be so foolish to dump his office for an almost impossible dream. If jonathan is contesting then oshiomole as a VP in another party will be of no political value to the SS. The entire SE will be there for the taking for the highest bidder. You dont need a prophet to know that in that case you cant outbid the incumbent. nuff said.

You are using every logic available to predict what you want to see and not what will actually happen based on reality on ground. The only way and I repeat the only way any other party can smell the presidency is if there is a serious Implosion in the PDP, where keys members walk away from the party en masse.

Please you have overstretched the 3rd term logic. Kobikwelu has explained it all. Third term in itself was a hard sell, besides it is far more difficult to amend a constitution for such a sensitive issue when the opposition needs less than 40% to scuttle your plans.

In a presidential election, two things are very important which are the party structure and national visibility of the candidate. There is no doubt that PDP has the structure to win (i am not saying they dont complement this with rigging). As per visibility Jonathan has it. At least you dont have to mention his name twice in any part of the country for people to know what you are talking about. If you undermine this two factors then you dont understand what it takes to win.

You talk about just sycophants supporting jonathan in the north , and that the real politicians with sound ideological leanings dont support him. Then i will ask you to mention the "real politicians" who are not sycophants in the nigeria of today.

It will shock you , how "unknown" ribadu is in nearby Ekiti state, expecially amongst the real voters. It will also shock you how unpopular a donald duke is in nearby delta state. Forget all this internet voting that we do on NL. Donald duke can not make 500,000 votes nationwide.

As touching GEJ chances, I can tell you that the election is his to loose. Yes even without rigging. The biggest obstacle for him is getting the PDP ticket, after that its a done deal. The scheduling of senatorial elections on same day with the presidential election ,just before the governorship election is a masterstroke. Politics especially in nigeria boils down to personal gain. Most senators will not take the risk of asking there supporters to vote different parties for the senate and presidency, since we have a largely illitrate electorate and any complication in the process will work against them. So on election day it will just be to tell your supporters to vote "umbrella". Every election year we underestimate the work needed to change the status quo. New excitement, same old election, same old result.

For the northern governors position, I think that was a face saving move to hide the crack they now have in the hitherto one-indivisible-north. Another problem for the north is the lack of a credible candidate. The nothern frontrunners have massive political sores that are too difficult to overlook.

Ribadu i repeat is not a material that can make a good president.

I somehow suspect that the north may throw a last dice by bringing someone like Danjuma goje or try to pull the rug off GEJ's feet by tempting Namadi sambo to declare and get the backing of the north. I might be wrong. i hope i am.

Beaf:
They are scared of Jonathan and IBB. Both are very powerful men.
On the other hand, it sounds the death knell for zoning, as they've washed their hands off the matter and skillfully rolled the ball into PDP's court.
We can now begin to say that zoning is no longer a Northern issue, but one for the PDP only.
Hmmm. Ibb and ATIKU's slim chance continues to thin out by the minute. Once the zoning garment is taken off they dont stand any chance. we now have only people like Buhari to contend with.
PoliticsNorthern Governors' Not Against Or For Zoning- Ngf by naso2(op): 7:17pm On Jul 27, 2010
Governors from Nigeria's northern region under the aegis of the Northern Governors Forum [NGF] have met in Kaduna on Tuesday to take a crucial stance on the issue of zoning within the ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP].

At the meeting of Northern Governor's in Kaduna, the chairman, Dr. Aliyu Muazu says none of the governors has taken a position for or against zoning, and the meeting is not about endorsing any individual for the forthcoming elections.

"The issue of zoning will be discussed ,  (but) our meeting today is not to endorse anybody as the presidential candidate," Aliyu told reporters.

In his opening remark, Dr. Muazu revealed the appalling level of poverty in the north, the north according to the governor, now has poverty more than any part of the country, more people out of school, lack of industries to contend with, and he ranks these as foremost priorities and challenges for which they intend to find solutions.

Despite his efforts to defuse expectations, any agreement by the northern governors that the next president does not have to be a northerner will be seen by many in Nigeria as a tacit endorsement of a presidential bid by Jonathan.

In another development, a small group of protesters from a northern youth movement waved placards outside the state government headquarters ahead of the meeting, urging the governors to uphold the zoning agreement and not back Jonathan, but torrential rain and a heavy security presence dispersed them peacefully.

Approximately 17 governors attended the meeting, but notably absent were the Bauchi and Katsina state governors who are in-laws to the late president, Umaru Musa Yar'Adua.
The governor's from the south had met on Monday to give their full backing to President Goodluck Jonathan and appeal to him to run for the presidency in 2011.

The decision of the Northern governor's is believed to be crucial because of the zoning agreement which had been taken within the PDP which is not in favour of Jonathan's bid in 2011 elections if he decides to run.

Many groups and individuals have made passionate appeals to the leadership of the PDP to dump the zoning agreement and throw their weight behind President Jonathan, many still believe that the zoning arrangement should be upheld in order to sustain peace within the ruling party.

If the ANPP/AD alliance that produced Olu falae could not defeat PDP , I get confused when people now expect magic from these smaller parties. APP(or was it ANPP) had control of much more states than we have now. AD on the other hand had all of the south-west states with encouraging presence in Kwara. A ribadu/Oshiomole ticket will only win the presdential election on NL alone.

Sweet talk. politicians ehn. They always know what people want to hear, hence they say it only during election period.

Well i am not fooled, the way things happen with these politicians it is only a matter of some backdoor negotiations for him to drop his ambition and go back to his 'family', PDP.

In any case , may be he feels he needs to keep himself active with all these troubles because i dont see him getting 500, 000 votes. how much more winning the elections.

Una dey make me laugh grin grin grin. Oshio what?

Who takes that kind of political risk in Nigeria? leave the governorship post for a Vp slot in a party that will hardly win the presidential race? Abeg make i laugh.  grin grin grin

Oshiomole will consider  that only on two grounds

1. When he has exhausted his 2 maximum shots at the governorship
                               OR
2. When forced by the party(like PDP) to drop that post. In this case A C is not that big as a party to bend oshiomole's hand.

As for ribadu, though he did arguably well at EFCC, i strongly believe he is not a good candidate for the presidency. He is way too combative as an individual for that post. Just one careless  utterance  from him in anger will set the country ablaze. If he wants to join AC, then fine, but should be considered for jobs like ministry of works, Power etc. As for him being the president it is definitely a bad choice. QED.

Jonathan practically wanted to withdraw the girls from the tournament couple of days before it started. The team has the same coaching staff pre and post Lulu; nothing has changed, so their success is not attributable to Lulu's exit. And yes, I can call the president a fool if he acts foolish, just like his foolish decision to punish all the soccer teams because of the activities of a few people and one team.
Oh dis time its the coaching staff and not the NFF?
maigari who heads the NFF now is a government appointee. If fifa does not see this as govt interference, then i think they have updated the meaning of interference  in their books.

With jonathan's initial action, there is now mutual respect between fifa and the nigerian govt and fifa now know we are a peculiar people. So the initial pronouncement and subsequent reversal all helped to achieve the desired change. It was not a foolish move.

To all those supporting the Jonathan ban, imagine that foolish Jonathan would have prevented this beautiful moment from happening. Congratulations to the girls.
But to be fair, our U-20 boys have also advanced to the final of the tournament, so they need to at least reach the final before they prove they can do better.
wetin u smoke? Na president you dey call foolish? dem no train you for house?

what makes you think  it would not have been the same Sani lulu jamboree where the girls would have left in the first round had it not been for jonathan's wake-up call?
