lukman haruna should seize the opportunity of this world cup and shine oh.he has more potentials than mikel obi as of now, mikel was a good player, who was standing shoulder to shoulder with lionel messi, but has lost much of his shine
statements like this give me headache. This logic is simply wrong?

Do you know keita was the MVP of Nigeria 99 , where players like xavi and Ronaldinho were hardly mentioned? Can you compare them today? Does it mean keita lost focus?

@ Kgdavid
God bless you. how a player that is acclaimed useless and has not improved in 4yrs  is also adjudged the best passer of the ball by the same appraiser still beats my imagination too.

@12large
You no get respect I swear. I see Haruna as a good player, but only his enemies who pose as friends will fail to highlight his weak areas that need correction. If just advising people not to be too hasty in their praise for haruna is something that is too difficult  to understand , then i cant help you.

@johnny

In that competition , Haruna alone cost us two matches. His reckless tackle earned him a red card in the first match against venezuela(i think), where the team had to play with 10 men from the first half. Then against Germany his stylish attempt allowed the german to win the ball and go on to score.

I am not saying , he is not a good player, but this comparison with mikel is rather too early.

SportsYakubu Targets Golden Boot ; Abeg Make Una Laugh by naso2(op): 12:12pm On Jun 09, 2010
The Super Eagles are not one of the favourites for the World Cup but the team’s leading marksman, Aiyegbeni Yakubu, believes he has the ability to emerge the competition’s highest goal scorer, and win the Golden Boot.

FIFA have always accorded recognition to the World Cup’s top goal-scorer since the tournament’s debut in 1930, but it wasn’t until the Espana ‘82 that the Golden Boot award, donated by Adidas, was handed out to whoever emerged as the top marksman.

Italy’s Paolo Rossi won it in 1982 ,while Miroslav Klose of Germany claimed the honour at the last tournament in 2006. Yakubu now hopes to be the next recipient of the award that has also been claimed in the past by the likes of England’s Gary Lineker and legendary Brazilian, Ronaldo.

Speaking on Everton TV, the Nigerian international, who believes South Africa 2010 will smash the 147 goals record set at Germany 2006, said: “It is unbelievable when you hear how many goals were scored but I think there will be more goals this summer because every country and every player has improved. The strikers aren’t the only ones who can score goals too because they can come from midfield and defence. I think there will be more goals in this World Cup. I would love to be the top scorer. For me as a striker I want to score goals in a World Cup. It won’t be easy but I believe in myself.”

I somehow feel he will do well in this WC though.
SportsNigeria Vs Argentina: Referee Plans To Favour Messi by naso2(op): 8:31am On Jun 09, 2010
The German referee, Wolfgang Stark, who will lead the match between Argentina and Nigeria, said “I would love to change my shirt with him, of course. But it would have to be in the locker room, because if not, I should show them the yellow card”.

Stark made public his admiration for the Argentine crack. The referee had already performed in a match in which “La Pulga” played; the second leg of the quarterfinals of the Champions League, in which Barcelona beat Arsenal 4-0.

“I remember the great match he did against Arsenal when he scored four goals against Barcelona. And also remember that he asked me for the ball. Of course I gave him the ball, after scoring so many goals, he deserved it. That ball should be a nice memory for Messi, “recalled the German judge.

Stark now hopes for a return of favors. “I would love to change my shirt with him, but, anyway, and given the quality of the player, I think that several Nigerian players will be very interested in having his jersey.”

“When I found out that I was going to be the referee of Argentina vs. Nigeria, I was very happy because this is one of the most important matches of the group, with one of the favorites,” he concluded.

Should a ref show this kind of admiration for a player before a crucial world cup match? what this ref has not said is even louder than what has been said. HE SIMPLY WILL DO EVERYTHING TO  FAVOUR MESSI.

medjai:
u're probably right. Nigeria has become a land not worth dying for. But look at Drogba, he is refusing to give up. His injury just got patched up and he still wants to play despite the doctors not giving him the nod.
And where did you get this info from? who told you the doctors are not giving him the nod to play? The doctors say the operation was successful and he is expected back in ten days(8 now), and should even be fit for the opening group match.

Can you compare this with Mikel's case? A fractured arm(elbow) like drogba's can never be aggravated to threaten ones football career. You can never compare that to a knee or ankle injury, where once one plays without proper healing, the effect could be disastrous. Ask Van basten, even our own amokachi suffered same too.

People should give mikel credit for opening up and giving another player an opportunity to excel. Had mikel not spoken up, Lagerback would never have dropped him, he probably would have been buying time until the end of the road for nigeria. Then we all would still have blamed him. una no dey tire to always criticise mikel?

SportsRe: Nigeria Vs North Korea Friendly On June 6, 2010: 3 - 1 by naso2(m): 9:58am On Jun 07, 2010
I think it was nt a bad showing, however as a seasoned coach, I expect atleast two surpsrise inclusions against Argentina. The midfield definitely has to be packed with men that will fight for every ball. Keita, etuhu haruna. Messi is often marked out from the midfield we he takes off, so with the right combative players in the middle we will give them trouble.

I expect atleast one surprise in the attack, nsofor has to go out and ogbuke to be introduced for his pace and trickery which should distabilise the left side of the argentine defence. my selection

EYEAMA
ODIAH ADELEYE YOBO TAIWO

KAITA ETUHU

HARUNA

OGBUKE
YAKUBU OSAZE

Whenever any of the fullbacks overlap, then the DMs need to cover that space , with haruna backtracking .

Most of you underestimating Mikel's influence in the team need to think again. Thank God Haruna has stepped up, but a MIKEL-HARUNA midfiled pair would have been the perfect engine for the eagles to excel. Etuhu plays like a blind man most times.

Onlytruth:
This topic is really exposing the level of intelligence of the average Nigerian. People are here yapping on about creating job opportunities, fixing infrastructure, creating national identity. Do these folks realize how long we've been trying to do those? huh

Do these folks realize the type of money Nigeria loses (through theft of crude and open theft of public funds) monthly and yearly? huh They are in Billions of dollars $B! And the thefts will likely continue whether they do this or not. undecided

Do they realize the economics behind this? How many small businesses will be empowered by this?

A spending population is far better for the sustainability of the economy than one where a few spend and cart the rest overseas.

I look at is this way: we have been trying for ever to achieve 24hrs of electricity supply, why are we trying that, since Nigeria is hopeless? Why not throw up hands in the air and give up on that and all other things we are aspiring to achieve in Nigeria? huh

This is a worthy goal. It is worth having around. All we need do is pursue it. And if any government comes around, they would have less free money lying around the government coffers. The strategy is to engage ALL money we have in such a way that would force accountability. When the unemployed and elderly don't get their allocation, they would know that there is a thief lurking somewhere in Aso rock. If you call a million man march for change, the real STAKEHOLDERS (unemployed Nigerians) will show up and be ready to die.

Nigerians, sometimes I don't get you guys! undecided

Thank you kobo (I'd say this for once)
Nothing annoys me about NL than the first bolded statement. So anyone that faults this idea is of low or average intelligence. Nonsense. If you still do not know how controversial economic issues like these are amongst even seasoned proffesors of economics  then you have no business discussing this.

Ok from your logic this is now the substitute for the minimum standard of good roads, education, and other job creating ventures of governmnet abi?

Looking at your post make me laugh. So becuase they(politicians) have been looting, the best approach is to come up with a proposal that only tries to scratch the surface of the problem? How will you implement and sustain this proposal?  You talk as if this is one venture that will be immune to the "nigerian factor" . Do you have proper records of graduates and those unemployed?

So you think politicians will  now stop looting and fund this with monies that traditionally should come to there pocket? As if you dont know these politicians will obtain foreign loans to do this nonsense.
SportsRe: Drogba Injured, Out of World Cup by naso2(m): 4:39pm On Jun 04, 2010
latest reports have it that he will still play at the WC. An immediate suggery is planned and he is expected back in 10 days. Thank GOD

http://www.goal.com/en/news/1863/world-cup-2010/2010/06/04/1958629/world-cup-2010-didier-drogba-world-cup-2010-cote-divoires-didier-

French media sources have performed a swift u-turn on the news that Didier Drogba has been ruled out of the World Cup after sustaining a fractured elbow in the first 20 minutes of Cote d’Ivoire’s friendly encounter with Japan in Sion, Switzerland earlier today.

L'Equipe and Canal+ both claimed that the Chelsea striker's hopes of playing had completely vanished after Ivory Coast boss Sven-Goran Eriksson had earlier confirmed the injury and admitted he was "concerned" about his skipper's hopes of competing in South Africa.

However, L'Equipe has now proclaimed that Drogba will undergo surgery and could be fit in ten days. Indeed, the publication goes as far to say that "[Drogba] could well participate in the first match for the Elephants, which is against Portugal on June 15."

With only a quarter of an hour gone in the game, Drogba clashed with Japanese defender Tulio, leaving him a little dazed. Tulio, the scorer of both a goal and an own goal against England last week, went for the ball with his leg raised, while Drogba's right arm came up simultaneously. The resulting collision between the Ivorian's elbow and Tulio's knee was purely accidental, but the Chelsea forward was ultimately withdrawn due to the injury. CSKA Moscow’s Seydou Doumbia was quickly brought into the frey.

Drogba, who is rated as the third best player in the world by the Castrol Rankings, had already made his influence tell in the early stages of the game, when his free kick was deflected home by Brazilian-born Tulio.

Despite the loss of Drogba, the Ivorians went on to win the game, which was played over three 45 minute periods, 2-0, though they will not relish a trip to South Africa without their recognised star forward.

All dis na mallam economics. consume, spend, allowance etc.

Why not develop a sustainable blueprint for job creation. Do these fools even know how many unemployed graduates we have? Without a functioning national Id system, I dont know how dis will be accomplished. At best the monies will go to a few young men that do the running around for these politicians during elections.

Create jobs, develop the educational and other skill building institutions so that our people can compete with the best globally, work on eletricity, see how to develop the moribund ajaokuta project, proper healthcare. These are the things we need.

Besides there are JOBLESS graduates I know that will see that 15k as permanent employement. They just wake up eat, watch Tv and discuss EPL.

Look around and tell me the kind of young/fresh legs we have that can hold their own in the world cup. We do not have the time to do all the experiment that could throw up some very fresh legs before the world cup. Check the team list of most countries in this torney and you will see that many coaches have chosen experience over youth.
