About the allegations of the funds 'entrusted' to Abiola by Babangida, I have read of a similar story and according to gist, personal vendetta was the real reason for the annulment of June 12 election. Stories abound that Abiola refused to release the money from his late wife's account to Maryam Babangida and so, June 12 was annulled.

Politics at times can be a very dirty game.

Just this 4 bedroom bungalow in Calabar. The windows or louvres as they call it in Nigeria were, I think, open, so they may have stolen a wristwatch or something, this was long time ago, late seventies, early eighties. There was blood outside. Still remember the shock on my mother's face. I dont want to make accusation, but I wont be surprised if the perpetrator was familiar with the environment we lived in.

Pele@Pokosa, was just commiserating. Must have been touching to you, since the victim was your classmate, hence my sympathies. Have never experienced armed robbery before in my life, except for one peculiar incident when one stole my dad's wristwatch from his bedroom. I think it was stolen, and it was through our window (louvres). Apparently, the windows cut off his hand, because we saw congealed blood outside my father's bedroom.

But after I moved to the USA, my family was attacked by Armed robbers. It was just dreadful reading the letters from my younger brother. God dey!

Cops: African Terror Kills Single Mom In Fit Of Jealous Rage
North Miami Beach detective Tracy Lystad calls it The Nightmare After Christmas.

Otneil Sanon, 4, and Tiatiana Paul, 14, had just spent Christmas with their mother, Coty Paul.  The young family didn't have much that year, but Coty loved her kids more than anything and was a religious woman.

The very next day, Coty was in a neighbor's apartment, watching her favorite preacher on television.

Police say while watching the show, Coty's boyfriend, Abraham Mpaka, came into the neighbor's home and tried to talk to Coty, who was engrossed in the sermon.

A witness said the next thing she knew, Mpaka was standing over Coty, pulling a large knife out of her chest.

Mpaka then fled the scene. The witness, who only speaks Creole, ran out of the house and got Coty's daughter, Tatiana.  The 14-year-old girl called 9-1-1 and was trying to save her dying mother's life, applying pressure to the wound.

But before Coty could reach the hospital, she was dead, leaving her teenage daughter and young son without a mother.

"It was just an awful scene for the mother and her two children," Det. Lystad said.

Mpaka has made claims that he is a doctor, an FBI agent, and has attended the prestigious Université de Paris.
A Brutal Murder, With A Surprising Twist
As North Miami Beach Police detectives began investigating the case, Det. Lystad thought it was "an open-and-shut case."

But within hours, she learned about Mpaka's sordid story, and realized the case wasn't going to be so easy.

Police learned that Mpaka had robbed a bank in Adventura, in South Florida on December 10, 2008, just two weeks before the murder.

They said, Mpaka, wearing phony reading glasses and a brown baseball cap, entered the bank and gave a teller a note stating, "I have a grenade, if you scream you're dead, give me $3,500."

Detectives say a witness got the license plate number from his car and tracked Mpaka down. He was arrested the next day, and told detectives he needed the cash to pay for his mother's funeral in Africa.

Cops believe he paid his rent, and Coty's as well.

A week later, Coty bailed him out; it's a decision her family regrets she made.

As Lystad dug deeper into Mpaka's past, she learned that he had allegedly vandalized Coty's car to make it look like another neighbor had done it.

Friends told police that Mpaka was extremely jealous, and was often possessive of Coty.  Following the vandalism, police say Mpaka allegedly set her car on fire while she was out of town visiting a relative.

Friends said that Coty had tried to break up with Mpaka, but wasn't able to get him to let go.

Det. Lystad said she doesn't think Coty feared Mpaka, but just wanted to separate from him.

"I don't know exactly what the motive was in her murder," she says, "but it could have been Mpaka caught on that she was trying to break up with him."

Lystad also uncovered that Mpaka authored his own autobiography, "The Nigerian 419 Scams: A Disgrace to Western Civilization."

In the book, he claims he was a victim of a Nigerian scam and left the country out of fear.

Mpaka has made claims that he is a doctor, an FBI agent, and has attended the prestigious Université de Paris. Det. Lystad is sorting through the claims trying to determine what is fact, and what is fiction.

One thing Lystad does know is that she is going to get justice for the little boy and the teenage girl who have been left without a mother.

"It's heartbreaking that I don't have this guy in custody yet," she said. "But, I will."

"This was a cold, calculated murder and I need to stop him and make him pay for his crime," Lystad said.

SANTA ANA – A man was sentenced to 15 days in jail today after admitting to assaulting a security guard who stopped him from getting into a car with “American Idol” host Ryan Seacrest after a fundraising event at Children's Hospital of Orange County.

Chidi Benjamin Uzomah Jr., 25, of Lakewood, pleaded guilty in Orange County Superior Court to three misdemeanors: assault, battery and possession of a switchblade knife 2 or more inches long.

Superior Court Judge Walter Schwarm sentenced him to 15 days in jail and three years probation and ordered to stay away from CHOC and Ryan Seacrest.

The incident started to unfold around 2:50 p.m. on Tuesday, after Seacrest had been at the hospital broadcasting his KIISfm morning radio show as part of a fundraiser.

Seacrest signed autographs for fans who had gathered outside the hospital, including one to Uzomah, said Orange Police Sgt. Dan Adams.

As Seacrest got into a car, Uzomah tried to get past security guards to get to the car, Adams said, adding that the guards told him to leave the area.

“As that was happening, Seacrest pulled away in the vehicle,” Adams said. “He was not even aware of the disturbance or the subsequent assault on the security guard or the arrest.”

Uzomah refused to comply and put his arm around the security officer’s neck and started choking him, Adams said. Guards helped subdued Uzomah until police officers arrived.

Uzomah was accused of choking the security guard to the point where he nearly became unconscious, Adams said.

Uzomah was carrying an illegal switchblade knife at the time of the arrest, police said.

“The knife was not brandished or used during the incident,” Adams said.

“He didn’t give any motive or idea for why he tried to get past security and into Ryan Seacrest’s car,” Adams said.

Schwarm ordered that Uzomah’s knife be destroyed by Orange police.

Schwarm gave Uzomah sentencing credit of four days for time spent in custody since his arrest.

Uzomah, who had faced a maximum of a year in jail on the misdemeanors, negotiated his plea with prosecutors.

PoliticsRe: Catherine Acholonu And Her Redefiniton Of The Biblical Adam! by Ndipe(op):
Adam lost his divinity? Some people, in the quest of ethnocentrism and possibly to make money will write delusional and bizzare stuff to further their needs in the society. The Holy Bible clearly states that Adam and Eve were banished from the Garden of Edem due to disobedience and the same Holy Bible is clear about that and used in the Roman Catholic Church which Dr. Acholonu admits to being a member. So, it's quite puzzling and bizarre that she is floating this unfounded and absurd ideas about Adam losing his divinity, evolution (contrary to Biblical writings) and . . . Besides, Ikom the birth-center of these ideas of Dr. Acholonu is actually in Cross River State, inhabited by the Ejagham (or Atam people as we call them in Ibibio) not the Igbos, so how can she reconcile those two, including the so called divinity of Adam, evolution and the Holy Bible.

That was funny.

To be honest prof Acholonu, you didn't have to use Adam as a subject because you are dealing with science here and science doesn't buy too much into the creationist's story if at all they bought into it a bit. However, about Africans having writing system B.C.E, that has been discovered earlier on but not something discovery channel will show. There was a cult in what is now Cross Rivers state that uses written codes to communicate with members. Good work though and more grease to your elbow. When you are done let us know what your conclusion is.

I'm tired of hearing about Aristotle this and that in Philosophy classes when the truth is right there in Timbuktu and Egypt. Yes it's a fact that Greek philosophers were only teaching what they learned and elaborating and that the Africans already laid the grand work and foundations of philosophy.
Whoever said ancient Egypt (Kemet) wasn't a black empire is really sleeping cause it's there in the name the Greeks gave it. Also, when Alexandra came to Egypt, what was the first letter he wrote to his mom? He said mother, I have found where the Gods began their journey! Na we open their eyes!!!!!!!
It's the Ekpe cult of Cross River State that used the Nsibidi to communicate with members. I have no idea about the Nsibidi written code, but I think it still exists.

Perrito4u:
AT MATTHEW 4:1, Jesus is spoken of as being "tempted by the Devil." After showing Jesus "all the kingdoms of the world and their glory," Satan said: "All these things I will give you if you fall down and do an act of worship to me." (Matthew 4:8, 9) Satan was trying to cause Jesus to be disloyal to God.

But what test of loyalty would that be if Jesus were God? Could God rebel against himself? No, but angels and humans could rebel against God and did. The temptation of Jesus would make sense only if he was, not God, but a separate individual who had his own free will, one who could have been disloyal had he chosen to be, such as an angel or a human.

On the other hand, it is unimaginable that God could sin and be disloyal to himself. "Perfect is his activity . . . A God of faithfulness, . . . righteous and upright is he." (Deuteronomy 32:4) So if Jesus had been God, he could not have been tempted.—James 1:13.

Not being God, Jesus could have been disloyal. But he remained faithful, saying: "Go away, Satan! For it is written, 'It is Jehovah your God you must worship, and it is to him alone you must render sacred service.'"—Matthew 4:10.
Jesus Christ had the full nature of man and God when He was on earth. So the temptation He experienced was a normal experience for Him due to His earthly nature. There is a verse in the Holy Bible that says that we have a sympathetic High Priest who understands our struggles on earth due to His own experiences. Read Hebrews 4:15

Oprah's book club pick: Say You're One of Them
The new pick for Oprah's Book Club appears to be "Say You're One of Them," Uwen Akpan's collection of short stories about the lives of African children. News reports in The Washington Post and other media provide a peek at the pick, which Oprah plans to announce later today on her show. (Update: Oprah has made the pick official.) It's been a while between picks -- the last one, about a year ago, was David Wroblewski's "The Story of Edgar Sawtelle." It became an instant best seller, of course.

Akpan's book should be a refreshing counterpoint to the frenzy over "The Lost Symbol." (I shudder to think what would have happened if Oprah had chosen Dan Brown's book for her club -- the resulting storm would have been like the earth and moon colliding.)

If you want to get a head start on Akpan's book, you can read two of the stories, "An Ex-Mas Feast" and "My Parents' Bedroom," on The New Yorker's website. And here's Akpan describing his collection, as it was being written: "I would like to see a book about how children are faring in these endless conflicts in Africa. I would like to really know how kids are dealing with the genocide in Darfur. What is the torment like for a child who went through the tsunami? I would like to get into the head of a kid soldier in Sierra Leone. It is scary and painful. And the world is not looking."

Catherine Acholonu: Igbo Traditions Reveal Ancient “Genetic Engineering”
Posted on July 22, 2009 by Richard Bartholomew
Also: accuses me of racism

Prof. Catherine Acholonu has a new book out: They Lived Before Adam: Prehistoric Origins of the Igbo The Never-Been-Ruled. Acholonu is Nigeria’s Country Ambassador for the UN Forum of Arts and Culture (UNFAC), and according to this profile:

The UNFAC team of culture researchers- linguists, anthropologists, historians, IT specialists, folklorists – led by Prof. Acholonu, are conducting research aimed at unearthing the hidden meanings of ancient Nigerian rock art/inscriptions known as Ikom Monoliths of Cross River State, which thanks to Acholonu’s research findings and nomination application, have now been listed by the World Monument Fund in its 2008 list of 100 Most Endangered Sites as “a ancient form of writing and visual communication … dating before 2000 B.C.” Acholonu is seeking international support and funding for her monoliths research by which she has proved that Sub-Saharan African Blacks possessed an organized system of writing before 2000 B.C. (more than 4000 years ago) and a Pre-History recorded on 350 stones which she and her team of researchers are now transcribing and translating. (See The Gram Code of African Adam, the first in a series on the monoliths research.) She believes that the contents of these stone records will prove that Black Africans were the midwives of human civilization, and will change human history as we know it.

The inflated claim in the last sentence should set off alarm bells, and here she is in full flow on C-SPAN’s BookTV, speaking recently at the Harlem Book Fair:

Our research includes the origin and meanings of symbols used in every religion and sacred literature all over the world. In these, we found that the Hebrew Bible, the Kabbalahs of the Hebrews and the Chinese, the Hindu Vedas and Ramayana, and the recently discovered Egyptian Crystal Bible called the Nag Hammadi are of immense importance in revealing lost knowledge. Wherever we looked we found evidence confirming the claims by geneticists who have been conducting mitochondrial DNA research in four leading universities here in the USA that all mankind came from sub-Saharan Africa, that Eve and Adam were black Africans.

…Igbo oral traditions confirm the findings of geneticists, that by 208000BC – 208000 BC – human evolution was interrupted and Adam, a hybrid, was created through the process of genetic engineering. However, our findings reveal that the creation of Adam was a downward climb on the evolutionary ladder, because he lost his divine essence, he became divided, no longer whole, or wholesome. All over Africa and in ancient Egyptian reports, oral and written traditions maintain that homo erectus people were heavenly beings, and possessed mystical powers such as telepathy, levitation, bi-location, that their words could move rocks and mountains and change the course of rivers. Adam lost all that when his right brain was shut down.

Listening to that is enough to shut down both sides of the brain. It’s all nonsense, of course - the texts she cites contain no “lost knowledge”, and her description of the Nag Hammadi library (Nag Hammadi is the name of a place) as the “Egyptian Crystal Bible” is simply bizarre. The concept of “Chinese Kabbalah” can be found in a couple of dusty tomes about Freemasonry, but the term has no sensible academic application. The “lost knowledge” she has supposedly discovered is just the latest formulation in a long tradition of pseudo-scientific and mystical speculations that feed parasitically off scientific work. The purpose of all this is apparently to show that the Igbo of Nigeria are the true “kings and queens of the earth”.

Remarkably, as well being broadcast by C-SPAN, this farrago was also recently presented at an Igbo Studies Association conference at Howard University; her speech there can be seen here. It’s more of the same:

Leaning on Archaeology, Linguistics, Historical, Anthropological and Paleontological sources, but also using Igbo, Yoruba and Benin Oral Traditions (for all these peoples are related), Biblical and extra-Biblical sources such as the Hebrew and Chinese Cabbalas, our researchers trace the presence of Igbo-speaking, ichi-bearing god-men world civilizers all the way from the ancient Nok region of Nigeria, to the Sahara Desert of North Africa and to Pre- and Post-Deluge civilizations around the world, all the way to Egypt, China, India, Greece, Babylon, Assyria, Palestine, etc.; their Pre-Deluge connections to the lost continent of Atlantis where the Igbo language was also spoken; their contributions to the shaping of Hebrew culture, Judaism, the Cabbala and ultimately, Christianity; and their role in ancient Egypt in shaping world Democracy and Philosophy as inventors, architects, philosophers and masterminds of Theocracy and of the egalitarian society known in Greece and the world over as Democracy. Indeed Ndi Igbo have never ceased to be world travelers. As they populate the remotest parts of the planet today, so have they done since at least 500,000 B. C.

However, she doesn’t react well to criticism; I blogged about her previous book Garamma: Stone writings of African Adam in 2005, and her response has been to assert that I am a racist:

Dear Bartolomew and co,
I promised you I would be on C-Span on the 18th of July, 2009 to discuss my latest book and discoveries – the sequel to The Gram Code of African Adam which you have been insulting and casting racist slurs at. Well my lecture came up on the 17th but was out on U-Tube by the 18th. You can obtain copies of the lecture on C-Span Online Library and you can watch part of it on The Daily Beast U-Tube site.

Clearly, the civilized world is listening, Bartolomew. Hardly anyone is still jumping around in the jungle of human error thinking racist thoughts like you and your KKK-sounding kind,

For someone who has many tuning into your site, you would do your image a world of good by coming out of your 10th Century fixation with racial stratification of the human intellect. We would be glad to welcome you into the 21st Century.

Of course I’m not a racist – I’ve written against racism numerous times on this blog, and I’ve been proud to carry a guest-post by the Nigerian intellectual Leo Igwe. Acholonu’s theory is a grandiose fantasy, and it would be patronising to say otherwise. It’s rather pathetic to see someone who wants to be taken seriously hiding behind a bogus accusation of this kind.

Acholonu’s complete C-SPAN talk can be seen here. I’ve also blogged on a religious movement in the UK that uses Igbo identity – see here.
