The girl gets pregnant WILLINGLY to trap the the bobo into a relationship, not UNWILLINGLY. If she was an unwilling participant, she would not have slept with him, unless it was against her will (Shame). The shame on single parenthood is usually a factor, which also accounts for the high number of abortions in the world. |
An achievement indeed, but not bragging or anything, Nigerians are becoming well known in the academic setting in the Western countries. |
Unwillingly or willingly? Cos, if it is unwillingly, then you cant blame the 'victim', but if it is willingly, you can blame the victim. |
What a man can do, a woman can do it better, so they say. So ladies, either you prostrate or kneel down and propose marriage to your boyfriend when you have the urge to get married. |
I would choose 15 million Naira a year in Nigeria over 4000 pounds a month in London. London is notorious for high taxes. |
While divorce is becoming acceptable in today's society, unfortunately, child abandonment is a baffling subject, because one just can't comprehend why a parent would coldheartedly abandon their own 'flesh and blood'. A slight doubt in paternity could be the reason behind this unfortunate developement, but in today's world, when DNA has sucessfully quelled such doubts with a 99% accuracy, that hasnt prevented these cowardly men from taking this less dignifying route by severing ties with their children. It is no longer news that the black community has been hit hard by reports of child abandonment, neither is it a surprise that kids, growing up in a single parent family are more likely to engage in societal vices. I read a report about a certain celebrity, whose father, would call him up on his birthday or so, tell him to meet him at the airport. The excited kid would show up at the airport to wait for his father, who would be a no-show. Speak of cruelty, which may damage a child's emotional health. Some prominent blacks have had tales of woe of being abandoned by their father, for the 'other woman', perhaps, or for drugs, etc. Child support, which could remedy the problem, posed by a single parent, suriving on one's income can easily be defeated. Some of these heartless men would connive with their employers to pay them "under the table". So no revenues can be substantiated. And for the truant ones, an attempt to sneak back into their ward's lives sometimes occur when the younger generation has hit a gold mine. The charitable ones have accomodated them, while the unforgiving ones, have also turned their backs on them. Today, I was reading about Dame Shirley Bassey, a Welsh singer, who has attained celebrity status, on account of her singing career. No big deal, but here is the truth about her heritage , her dad was from Nigeria. Apparently, (if he is still alive) he may have lost out, if his sucessful daughter has not reached out to him. In Nigeria, I never heard of men, abandoning their children for whatsoever reason. On the other way round, they were the ones who fought tooth and nail for child custody, (and in most cases, winning the judgement) and then, forbidding their former wife from visiting them. The vengeful ones could go a step further by attempting to poison the children's thoughts about their mother. It does happen, but in the USA, (regarded as the land of milk and honey) some men, would gladly heave, "What a relief to be free from this burden", why is that? |
Check this out. This famous Welsh, Shirley Bassey is actually descended from a Nigerian father. Unfortunately, he abandoned the family when the girl was 2 years old. Wonder if he is still alive, and if he is, if he is regretting that he has lost such an opportunity to reconnect with his flesh and blood. Check out this website on her bio. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shirley_Bassey |
Maybe in the past, people sold their assets to relocate to America, but in today's society, that cant be so. Nearly every sucessful individual back home, I am sure is current with the going on in the world, particularly in the West, thanks to the internet. So, for the poster, who happens to fall in that category (15 million naira a year is a lot of money, even when converted into dollars) and further on, admits that he's been abroad, should automatically know that America is not just a country that offers a comfortable life to people, least of all, immigrants. C'mon, lets be realistic. |
Babs, Jesus Christ Atoned for our sins on the Cross, to reconcile us to God. As much as God demands perfection in His sight, we have fallen short of His Glory and thereby prone to making mistakes, so because, because one was a minute late to Church due to traffic, while His Christian Brother arrived on time, does not negate the fact that we are all one in the Eyes of God, sinners, but Redeemed by the Blood of Jesus Christ. We don't need any earthly rituals to get close to Him. Jesus Christ has Bridged the Gap between Man and God. Let me refer you to the Old Testament in the Holy Bible. Testament means Covenant. During the olden days, people, practised animal sacrifices to wash away their sins (check that out in the Old Testament), read the Story of how God commanded Abraham to offer his son, Isaac as a sacrifice to him. Abraham complied with God's requests, and just at the last minute was ordered by the Angel of the Lord to refrain from sacrificing. Now, Biblical scholars refer to that near sacrifice of Isaac as the foreshadowing of the Death of Jesus Christ on the Cross to Atone for our sins. Even the Angel of the Lord who was sent by God to instruct Abraham not to go along with his sacrifice, is probably a manifestation of Jesus Christ, prior to His Eartly Incarnation. Now, in the New Testament, during the crucifixion of Jesus Christ on the Cross, one of the last words that He uttered on the Cross was "It is Finished". Immediately after He gave up His Spirits, what happened? The Holy Bible says that the Veil of the Holy Temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The Holy of Holies was now visible to the outside world. No priest was now needed to intercede on our behalf anymore. Jesus Christ opened the way with His Blood for mankind to have a relationship with God. Hence it is now called the "New Testament" (meaning a new covenant). The Old Testament was about animal sacrifices, the New Testament, superior to animal sacrifices was the Death of Jesus Christ for our sins and His Subsequent Resurrection. Meanwhile, read the story surrounding the story of Samson's conception in the Old Testament, how his parents were visited by the Angel of the Lord and how, this Angel of the Lord Ascended into Heaven in the flame of the altar (that is the flame emanating from the burnt sacrifice) The Angel of the Lord, when questioned about His identity said "Why do you ask My name seeing it is wonderful"? The ascension of the Angel of the Lord during the sacrifice is an actual confirmation that He may have been Jesus Christ. Remember, Jesus Christ also ascended into Heaven, after his Resurrection from the Grave. Please open your eyes to God. Read this link. http://www.godandscience.org/apologetics/passover.html |
California is a state, while Ajegunle could be classified as a city in Lagos, so your comparison is not fair. Pick a city in California and juxtapose it with Ajegunle in relation to crime/safety and lets see which one tops. |
Every story in the Holy Bible is 100% True!!! |
@walelead, you would pick Ajegunle over California because of security reasons? You gotta be kidding. |
Same pride that would make her remain a spinster@thoniaslim |
Why must we always appendage our people towards American celebrities? Like Richard Mofe Damijo is regarded as "Africa's Denzel Washington", Tuface is now regarded as "Africa's Jayz", and so on, Why can't it be the other way round? It does not matter if a celebrity has been in place for a very long time, while the Nigerian celebrity is an upcoming star, lets stop this comparison. Like Achebe, who is regarded as "Africa's black Shakespeare". Inspite of the fact that Shakespeare was perhaps the most recognizable name in the literary field, or Denzel is a popular African American actor, those 2 Nigerians, have also held their sway in their respective fields. Or, do you think that an American could either regard Toni Morrison as the "Mariama Ba" of Black American literature or Vanessa Williams as the "Sade Adu" of African American music? Enough of this comparison. |
This tragic story is not an isolated incident but is now becoming a familar scene in the Nigerian community based in the US. Last year in Dallas, a Nigerian man killed his wife, and I think there have been a couple of so in the USA. There is absolutely no reason that one could present for this senseless killing that may unfortunately traumatize the victims (the kids) and further isolate them from their father. I really dont know why, some people may use stress as an excuse, but arent we all in the same boat in the USA making ends meet? Why resort to violence, when there are other avenues to resolve your problems? I know the USA could be an isolated place, but please, there is no compelling reason that should compel one to commit homicide. |
I could not help laughing!!! |
America needs to focus less on material acquisition? Says who? What would the poster say about Nigeria, where people are so preoccupied with money that they engage in fraudulent deals to satisfy their avarice? Please, lets not even go there. As much as America may be regarded as a materialistic society, one of the aspects that I admire about this country is the citizen's penchant for charity. Check out the charitable foundation that people have established, either for their loved ones. Imagine the holidays, when ordinary citizens, go out of their way to reputable charitable organizations to feed the homeless and the underprivileged in the society. Who does that in Nigeria? Give it a break. I am from Nigeria, and if it is not as materialistic as America, there is no way one can write that the Nigerian society is more generous than the American society. |
OgaMadam, welcome. Just curious, do you have another ID on this board? |
Lonchi, what exactly are you writing? His kids wont forgive him for not relocating? Are you kidding us? Is the respondent really serious, to think about it, that someone would dump a 15 million naira a year job in Naija to fulfil the wishes of their spouse and come to America? Since he makes that kind of money, I am sure, he will be exposed to know that abroad is not the fabled land of milk and honey, but also a land of hardknocks. Bottom line: If he abandons his cushy lifestyle in Naija to America and work in Macdonalds as a cleaner, what do you think would be his family reaction? |
$3000 a month for an apartment in PH ? That's too much. Even in SF, that is the price that you would pay for a top tier apartment with impressive views of the city.To the respondent, the money they are offering you is peanuts. Please dont take it. |
The video clip/ montage of Saddam's gruesome and harrowing death was quite touching that I could not finish viewing them. I can't say for sure, why my emotions were stirred, because I was aware of his atrocities against his people. But irrespective of his evil deeds, I think the death penalty, be it lethal injection or sentencing one to the gallows should be abolished. It is barbaric and completely uncouth. I was indeed repulsed by this barbaric action, and the hypocritical action of the European leaders, makes me wonder, "Where were they, when Saddam was sentenced"? Ironically, I feel as if Saddam got a quick get away with his crimes against humanity. There are other ways that this problem could have been resolved. Rather than sentencing him to the gallows, he could have either been exiled, or at worst, imprisoned for life. That latter option would have served as a deterrent to future would be dictators of Iraq and furthermore, would have at least, given him the opportunity to reflect on his previous unaccounted crimes that almost destabilized the world. I am referring to the Gulf Crisis of 91. |
I read a letter from an American lady who complained that she felt slightly jealous because her baby preferred her husband's company over hers. I don't know for men, I highly doubt if men would feel threatened or be jealous if their infant son or daughter choosed their mom over them, but for women, I think it may be different. Happy New Year. |
, "from all indications, we should agree to disagree. the main requirement for salvation is to believe that Jesus is the Son of Gd who died to redeem us from sin, and to serve God faithfully till the end." AMEN!!! That is the most important duty for all of us, fortunate to be alive. For God Almighty is patient and slow to anger and is not willing for us to perish eternally. |
@Josboy4life, there is no such thing as bad publicity. |
No, Jesus Christ is NOT a created Being. He has always been in existence with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit. |
Wrong, Donnie. Are you a member of the Jehovah's witness? Read this link. http://www.raptureready.com/soap/rev16.html |
very very discouraging, the stories that I am reading about Nigerian banks. What alternatives exist for people to save money, or should we revert back to our forefather's way of burying money on the ground? There are some Nigerians back here, who maintained an account back home. One of them had a woeful experience, when the bank shut down. |
My people would call such an attempt by the EzeIgbo as an "Usongeyin" (insult). I highly doubt if a Calabar man would seek to be crowned an "Obong" in Ibo land, without raising the ire of the citizens. Geez, I mean, for what reason is all this for, except to start some controversy? Be a ruler in your region. |
The fee is not bad at all. |
Heaven is not on earth, but a Glorious place where God resides and Is preparing for His faithful servants. |
Nobody would believe me, but as depressing as that picture may be, the same applies even in the USA. Not too long ago, a certain hotel opened its doors to future applicants in Chicago. The vacancies were not many, but you should have seen the number of people applying for the job. They were very many of them. Even in the South side of chicago were unemployment in rife, it is not uncommon to see people looking for a job that has been filled by other people. So, yeah, Nigeria may be bad, but the grim reality of unemployment is not just limited there. |
