I agree with you, Vox, English language should not be a yardstick in your selection of a mate. Sure, we'd like an educated person for a spouse, but na English I go chop? How about you enroll them in college to grasp the fundamentals of the language. Thiefofhearts is out here bragging that she writes perfect English, but her writing does not reflect that. Please chill!!!

Not only pitiful but also ironic that the same people the society venerates on veterans day are also homeless (some of them). What a tragedy!!!
PoliticsRe: Jury Duty On O.J Simpson, How Would You have voted? by Ndipe(op): 10:47pm On Nov 19, 2006
Sijen, ignorance is never bliss. Nicole and O.J. Simpson were divorced, prior to her brutal murder in 1994. Get that straightened out. As a matter of fact, even when after they were divorced, O.J Simpson was harrasing his ex-wife. He stalked her, according to a 9-11 tape that was released with the voice of an anguished Nicole on the line.
PoliticsRe: Aso Rock Is Being Prepared For Ibb’ by Ndipe(m): 10:40pm On Nov 19, 2006
IBB plundered our economy, thereby destroying kinship, who remain seperated in two continents, surving to make ends meet, made a mockery of the judicial system of Nigeria, bankrupted our future with incessant closure of colleges, while some of his children schooled abroad, abandoned Nigeria, while spending money like water on installing ECOMOG in Liberia. And yet, we want to give this man a chance? As the saying goes

"Those who forget the lessons of history are doomed to repeat it". Lets not give this man a chance to rule Nigeria.

Big1, what makes you think that IBB has a noble implementation/ideas for Nigeria, when his regime was one of the worst of its kind in Nigeria when he was the president? Have you heard of the saying, "Trick me once, shame on you, trick me 2x, shame on me".

No Nigerian with their right faculties, would give this man a chance.
PoliticsRe: Jury Duty On O.J Simpson, How Would You have voted? by Ndipe(op): 10:58am On Nov 19, 2006
Jakumo, that was also the same question that I asked a fellow coworker. She is latino, and she told me if she had served as juror, she would have acquitted O.J. Simpson, despite overwhelming evidence that he did it. (that was her remark). But then it doesnt make sense at all, to pronounce a guilty person innocent, irrespective of the deceit their lawyers displayed in attempting to shift public opinion from the accused. Whatever happened to justice? What if a KKK, after committing murder, with proofs that he did it, got away with it, because his lawyers were able to sweet talk the jurors that their client was innocent? Pathetic!!!

TravelWhich City In America Has The Most Nigerians? by Ndipe(op): 9:44am On Nov 19, 2006
Can anyone take a guess? I heard Houston has the most Nigerians living in the USA, with an estimated population hovering close to 80,000. Even in smaller cities, there are still a fair number of Nigerians living there.

One of them, Woodlawn in Maryland holds the distinction as having the highest percentage of Nigerians in the USA (I think the ranking was meant to reflect the population of Nigerians per the size/square mile of any city in the USA).
TravelRe: Going To Visit Nigeria by Ndipe(m): 9:28am On Nov 19, 2006
My advice: Never take a cab from Lagos to Enugu, it is way too dangerous to undertake such a risk. Rather, fly into PH, and then take a taxi to your next destination. I am sure, PH is not that far from Enugu.
PoliticsRe: Homeless In America, Whose Fault Is It? by Ndipe(op): 6:28am On Nov 19, 2006
Ynot, I have never believed the study associating laziness to homelessness. I have had conversations with some of these homeless people, to facilitate a meaningful conversation and a few of the ones that I spoke with alluded their unfortunate circumstances to being injured at work. The link that I posted above corroborates my belief that people really don not choose to be homeless. On a cautious note, I met a homeless guy who told me that he preferred the outdoors over shelters because he is an outdoors person. But he did expressed concern though that the downfall of choosing this route (sleeping outside instead of the shelters) is the attacks that one is prone to receiving from cruel strangers.

60 minutes even did a segment about the perils of being homeless and showed a video of some youths attacking a homeless man with a bat (I think). The men were interviewed, white guys with a heart, darker than charcoal, and they could not give a plausible explanation for their act. I am sure they were sent to jail.

"Oh man. That is one thing I will NEVER accept. Be in a relationship with a guy that can't speak proper English? Never.

Infact, writing correctly is also a must. I can't STAND it when a person can speak or write correctly. Yuck Yuck Yuck. Angry"

@thiefofheart, maybe you should adhere to your principles of writing perfect English, by editing your work first.
PoliticsHomeless In America, Whose Fault Is It? by Ndipe(op): 11:24am On Nov 18, 2006
Some people are quick to blame homeless people as being responsible for their plight. Stories that "they are bums, or can't get a job" are not uncommon. I have always held the view that life's vicissitudes play a role in this humiliating incident. Divorce is part of it. I read a story of a Medical Doctor in California (I think), who was homeless. Now, nobody would believe this story, but I read it in Parade magazine. A malpractise lawsuit, coupled with a traumatic event ofa divorce forced this lady to become homeless. Thankfully, she rebounded from this heart breaking experience.

Others are not so lucky.

San Francisco has attained notoriety in the USA as a haven for homeless people. Some blame the city officials for being too lenient with the homeless, by offering them money just for being homeless. The temperate weather of the bay area, all makes it more enticiing for some of them to migrate to the bay area. I personally watched a local TV news show about a homeless man who relocated to California, on account of the weather. But don't get me wrong though, I have talked to several individuals who were homeless, and when I suggested shelter, they just shook their head. On the advice of one of them, I visited the shelter and was dismayed by their deplorable condition. This year again, I visited another one in Sunnyvale, and I was quite impressed by the orderliness, the sanitary conditions, a far cry from the previous one that I visited.

But there is a time frame for this homeless people to stay in the shelter and gain independence by leaving the place. Those most vulnerable to being homeless are mainly single parents, mostly working minimum wage jobs, immigrants, women and children. The kindness of charitable organizations during the holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving always gain some publicity in the media. Now, the tables have turned. Society can be cruel. 60 minutes aired a documentary on some teenagers in Florida beating up a homeless man. Those kids were sentenced to jail.

Another incident again in the bay area just confirmed my beliefs that most people, given a choice, would rather prefer to live in their comforts of their homes, than to be homeless.

Below is the link.

So, how can homelessness be eradicated in our society? Money alone can't eradicate it, it is an uphill task, but surely, it will go a long way in building affordable homes to those in dire need of it.

FashionRe: Body Odour by Ndipe(m): 6:06am On Nov 18, 2006
Diet can be a factor. Before consulting a skin doctor, drink a lot of water, when showering, use washcloth, instead of brush with soap and pay attention to parts of the body most susceptible to sweat.
RomanceRe: Best Friend Wants To Date My Sister by Ndipe(m): 11:29pm On Nov 17, 2006
No friend should date their friend's sister. What kind of bond are you trying to strengthen, when both of you are already friends? It only breeds wahala. Ok supposing the relationship ends badly, that, of course would affect your friendships, because no brother, would willingly choose their friend over their sister.

And for those who misconstrue their brother's protectiveness, it is because they want the best for you.

TravelRe: Is Life Really Better Abroad? by Ndipe(m): 12:30pm On Nov 17, 2006
If you feel that Nigeria is better than yankee, then Why are you here? Why don't you just move back home, instead of staying put in America, while dissing it? Such display of ingratitude is called "Biting the fingers that fed you". Like I wrote earlier, I aint going to condemn Nigeria, because, I grew up there, and for me, it was the best part of my life. There isnt anybody here that I know of who resides in America that hasnt struggled. Life is not a bed of roses, where you can accessorize them in your bedrooms, you have to work hard for it. When you put God first in your life, you are bound to succeed and definitely appreciate the fruits of your labor.

For the fellow who is in here, writing about hustling, etc, be honest, how many people from a poor background, in Nigeria can afford to attend secondary school? Is it not that the parents would decide that their son is better suited for a trade, or eagerly look forward to the day when an eligible suitor would come knocking for their daughter. Here in America, no matter how poor you are, most likely, you can earn at least a high school diploma from a public high school. The motivated ones can also obtain Finacial AID for their colleges, or even fall back on a JC, which is quite reasonable. Back home, contract is highly desirable for people that is only handed to a few, based on connections. How many students have graduated from college and have been gainfully employed? In Yankee, at least when you finish college, chances are, you will land a decent job, most times, without resorting to bribes or sleeping around. A guy that I know of in Nigeria attempted to join a milk company, but he could not come up with bribe money for the job, so as a last resort, he went back to his alma mater to become a lecturer. Tell me, is that common in America? Females are victimized in colleges, sometimes by their male teachers, with absolutely no justice for them, while their counterparts are feared in America on grounds of discrimination. There is no comparison whatsoever. America is better than Nigeria. What Nigeria certainly trumps over the USA is our outgong social life, our gregariousness, and of course, family bonds that have withstood the test of time in today's dog eat dog world.
NYSCRe: Corpers' Lodge: Ask Questions & Share Your NYSC Experience by Ndipe(m):
I served in Kano state for 3 weeks. That was in the 90's and the Wudil camp was just loads of fun. In a way though, I have to admit that I was homesick, Uyo to Kano state was quite a journey. I missed my ride in Aba, and previously, when I was at the bus station in Uyo, the crowd of passengers, slated for that trip to Kano state (some of them were non corpers) was quite a lot. Momsie was assuring me not to panic, that if I can't make it to camp, well, I can come back home.
Well, I boarded the bus, we reached Aba or so, and then I stepped out with a colleague from school for food. When we came back, we were told that our bus had left. We had missed our bus. Deadline was midnight and it was a day's journey. Fortunately, one of the women took pity on us, and got us into the next bus and arrived in my camp, just hours before the midnight deadline and as a matter of fact, another corper who reported at the post, after midnight was turned away. (No compassion)

I have to admit that pangs of homesickness hit me shortly afterwards. I also missed my classmates, most of them, serving in various states. The food was nothing special and that may have contributed to my illness. Still, the experience was worth it. Chei, Naija. Now, that I think of it, I realize how much I miss that place. You make new friends, get exposed to different people, debate till night time with people from various universities, share bunks with strangers that you wont even meet again, and yet still, it is always fun. I remember staying up late at night, eating at a Buka shop that was at the camp. I remember playing board games with other people, you just go into the booth, make yourself available and you are on the spot. The friendliness at camp between strangers is very encouraging, because here in yankee, you don't find a lot of people that are very friendly.

Its unfortunate that I lost touch with my NYSC mates. We exchanged addresses but I did not write afterwards. I was focused on coming to America.

Has the NYSC outlive its usefulness? I doubt it. It is the experience that counts.

Cheers.

Another question, why is the Holy Bible the bestselling book of all books in the world? Its distant rival "red book of mao' is just short of 1 billion copies in print, while the Bible has amassed more than 4 billion copies in sales. So Valuable is the Holy Bible in our life that it is referred to as the "Good Book".
