Travel › Re: Who Noticed This About Nigerians Who Have Family Members Abroad? by nedekid: 1:23pm On Sep 18, 2022 |
hamouston91: I noticed that most Nigerians feel so much achievement upon having a family member outside the country. I have seen Nigerians proudly declare the following (just an example tough) :
1. My uncle in Canada
2. My Aunty in UK
3. My Brother in the US
4. My son in Germany
5. My cousin in South Africa
6. My husband is in the United Arab Emirates
7. My daughter in Italy
8. My brother in Malaysia
9. My nephew in India
10. My brother sister uncle daughter son in Kuwait Etc. I observe a pride in each of these people, and I realized that it doesn't even matter which country the family resides in, for the homers, they always feel like they won a noble prize by having a family abroad. Some of these people have families in Indonesia, Malaysia, Israel, Libya, Kuwait, Honduras, Greece etc. And they puff with pride as if it's a life worth achievement. Others have families in the US, UK, Germany, Canada, France, South Africa, Australia etc, which is still note worthy.
But the Question is; why do most Nigerians count having a family abroad as a big achievement, and even make mockery of their fellow Nigerians who do not have a family member abroad. Or those who refuse to mention that they have families abroad?
Is it a Nigerian thing to behave like that, or is it a global thing, do other countries nationals behave like that?
Your opinion is the back bone of this thread. Thank you. That is for people from "humble background" ie poor families. So when they have a person that gets out of the country to the "abroad", it is seen as a huge progress and way out of poverty for the family. |

N3TRAL: The police officer should be fired for cowardice and negligence that are incompatible with the profession of a security agent.
It's unethical for the police officer not to empty the entire magazine of his rifle into the belly of the he-goat wearing a white t-shirt.
This shameful scene can never be recorded anywhere in the United States apart from Hollywood. Police officers there have fatally shot tens of thousands of suspects for simply puting their hands in their pockets when they were told to place them behind their heads.
Nigerian Police have the responsibility of teaching their officers to riddle the bodies of such deviants with bullets and leave them on the highway for vultures to feed on. Only then can we have an orderly society. Crap, when did the American police start mounting checkpoints and extorting or begging for money like the Nigeria police does? Or asking for people's phones? Like the ones that stopped us under medical road Bridge yesterday close to LASUT and the cps office. Directed us to stop and park well. A whole family in the car. Only for this elderly police man to announce that it was a security stop, the in full view of my teen kid says it is a weekend and we should give them money! Shamelessly! Trust me, one kobo he did not get. Never compare Nigeria police to the US. Naija police have brought disrespect to themselves. |

True true, it operates like a revenue court. I have appeared before them once when they removed all the number plates of cars parked in from of my office. I went with a paddy of mine, a lawyer who knew the system as he worked with gov. He just told me to plead guilty, get the fine and pay, that challenging it will waste my time. So I plead guilty, the magistrate nacked me 10k fine. I sent my driver to pay, I think it was an "alfa betta akkant". Got my vehicle back. I think this op is a lawyer and should challenge it in court if he feels lsgv is overstepping their boundaries. |

festacman: No problems but LASG should erect traffic signs boldly and clearly all over Lagos. Replace them when some unscrupulous police officers deliberately remove them to extort from innocent citizens. The idea should be to achieve road safety rather than to punish.
I believe the ruthless auction at this critical political time is a bold move. I hope motorists would learn from it and drive properly against every temptations to break the traffic laws. Believe me, the temptation can be strong sometimes due various reasons such as time management issues, condition of vehicle, bad roads, etc Yes, but some people just drive anyhow just to show they are smart, wiser, faster than other road users. Like my paddy will boast of his driving calling it "sucide", driving. Not until the day he drove against traffic and they took his car. My gûy vertually before his korokoro eyes saw his car vanishing. He had to call one of our army General paddies that helped him plead. Despite that he still had to pay a handsome fine. Baba almost saw his car seized. Omo, that guy still does his suicide driving, but as per one way? Him go de shake for body. Such moves will cause a shock and caution some drivers, but the stubborn ones will still continue and will have their vehicles auctioned. My only sorry is for vehicle owners that send their drivers on errands with their cars. |

anonymous1759: Every village should have its own vigilante, encircling the village in four square. Every village should also have an emergency Alarm that will be rang during attacks all these things will deter those animals. And every money disbursed should be monitored. Truely a good idea. But I think that is being done. What I thought what you were going to alledge he has not done is to provide proper arms such as Ak 47, which he obviously cannot get without express approval from the heardsman in Abuja. Without the vigilantes having Ak 47s all is a waste. Blow all the emergency alam and it will be of no use. I think the man is helpless for now. Not much he can do without arms. |

Let us learn to subject ourselves to laws, order, orderliness as well as good conduct.
We keep shaming ourselves with our bad behaviour and do not realise how a pariah status hurts us. In Nigerian terms"laid down rules" is very very vague. In short is means heavy bureaucracy. Can you go to passport office and follow laid down rules? 2 years you wount have smelt your passport!
