berem: what have you and your family gained from the reintergration? Are you better off now as a nigerian? Don't you ever dream of having Odua as a nation? What has been the situation of the country since Gowon and Awolowo reintergrated Nigeria? Has it been better or worse?
If we created a Yoruba nation would you become a Yoruba citizen?

_chucks,

I wish to speak on behalf of Igbos on this topic.

It is an insult to tell a bona fide member of the nation that the rights of belonging taken away from them has been paid back with consolation appointments in federal bureaus.

This open up a dialogue on rights of congression and assembly. What paercentage of the country is owned by each constituting group or ethnic bloc? What index of measurement or social factor (historicals included) should guide the apportionement of the proprietary rights....is it population, land mass, manpower and productivity, the treaties and agreements with Britain, natural resourceshuh?

What gives entitlement to some and denies it to others in an assembly of people such as ours?

Who determines the orderliness and social organizing for the society and where is the source stream of the creed and morals by which the standards are cut?

Plenty of questions to ask.....
PoliticsRe: Social Services By Government by NegroNtns(m): 3:06am On Nov 03, 2012
Good point but listen, our problem is not lack of ideas, its not about population or poverty....we simply dont have the recipe with which to form a perfect union for progress. We are stuck in the middle, cant advance a united conscience and refused to wind down and, or perhaps fear a return to, reset the past we left behind.

ROSSIKE: I've always wondered about this rarely mentioned aspect of the Biafran War.

Going by the various debates on the topic, a visitor from outer space would be forgiven for thinking the war was strictly between Nigeria AND the Igbos.

But the territory of Biafra also included the various lands and ethnicities located south and south west of Igboland - the Efiks, the Ijaws, the Ogonis, the Anyangs, the Ibibios, the Kalabari, the Ikwerres etc etc.

These of course are the oil producing regions whose multi-billion dollar industry lies at the very heart of the modern Nigerian economy.

A few questions: Since Ojukwu's reason for declaring secession was the 'oppression of the Igbos', why did he include the non-Igbo oil-rich riverine areas in his newly-declared nation?

Did they ask to be included?

Was the decision to rope them in democratically reached, with the agreement of those people?

Or were they forced into the new republic at the barrel of an Igbo-held gun?

If Biafra had won, who would have controlled those oilfields?

Igbos?

Would they have become the new oligarchs, suppressing the rights of the riverine people who owned the oil?

What chances would a riverine politician have had to emerge president of Biafra considering the Igbo majority?

What chances are there that Ojukwu would have surrendered power to a democratically elected president after leading Biafra to triumph?
Gej would still be shoeless if Ojukwu had won. We all trully need to see and applaud the vision of Gowon and Awolowo in reintegrating the nation.
PoliticsRe: Biafra: Did Igbos Force The South South People To Join Rebellion? by NegroNtns(m): 1:09am On Nov 03, 2012
The people of the coast are the rightful and proprietary owners of the name "Biafra". Biafra was coined from bight of Biafra. Alaigbo has no presence on the waters forming this bight. The name itself Biafra was given by European sailors to denote the midsection belt of Africa.....Bi-Afra.

Go to this thread and the second or third post is the copy of Lagos treaty. Read it as a background into the max plank legal opinion. You also have links on other treaties.

Cover these documents for thorough understanding. ....and it will become clear to you why of all the people who were parties in the creation of this nation, whether before or after 1906, the Igboman is on the bottom rung of the list of those qualified to question legitimacy of Yoruba in Nigeria.

PoliticsRe: 1914 Amalgamation - A Historical Mistake? : Nairaland Political Debate by NegroNtns(m): 10:36pm On Nov 02, 2012
Obiagu1: From your argument, we can talk about amalgamation of Opobo, amalgamation of Edoland, Igboland, Efikland, Hausaland, etc after all they were all added to the British colonial empire.
That defeats your argument. My point remains that none British government territories were either acquired or bought for expansion or conquered for expansion as well. Those territories were none British territories hence were not amalgamated but acquired.

When 2 or more independent British government territories with separate administration and government were merge, it is amalgamation. No one should ever talk about 1914 amalgamation again if 1906 will not be discoursed. We can use your literal definition of amalgamation and go back to Warri, Lagos, Calabar and Opobo "amalgamation" and we will end up with nothing.
Lmao.... Obiagu, you are crafty. Playing with words to squeeze in and out of dead end positions. Did I hear you say all these lands were added to the "British Colonial Empire"?

There is a document I will bring to you shortly. With a slight difference this document is a replica of similar documents of treaties with the coastal Kings. It is sealed on the honor of the Crown monarch, who in that time happened to be Queen Victoria.

The Royal Niger Company was also on commission and in service to the seal of the monarch. All its territories were domain under the sovereingty of the Crown.

So whether you were acquired, purchased, rented, amalgamated, merged, coupled, fabricated......it is immaterial to the goal and intent of the British Empire to pool all resources into one managable bucket of administrative control.

Why does it mattrr to you who was purchased and who was a free man.....we were all shackled and dispossessed.

I have some revelations to bring to you. I dont know what you are reading but you are a stark illiterate when it comes to the history of the foundings. First i will share this document and allow you time to soak it in. Go to the Edo website ....matter of fact, hold on!

PoliticsRe: Addressing Boko Haram Is Not My Responsibility- Borno State Governor by NegroNtns(m): 7:06pm On Nov 02, 2012
I think you all jumped too quick to attack his statement that it is not his responsibility.

First, the governor 's statement came out wrongly. In truth, the responsibility to secure the state rests with FG. Lets not forget that Gej declared state of emergency and that status has not been lifted so FG is completely responsible to bring calm. Fashola would have said the same thing this governor said in a more humane and civil way. This where we should draw differentiation.....there are governors and there are GOVERNORS! grin
PoliticsRe: FG May Accept Boko-Haram's Dialogue Offer With Condition by NegroNtns(m): 6:40pm On Nov 02, 2012
I think this condition that the leader, Shekau must be present at the meeting was not thought through.

FG should refrain from any moves or approach that narrows down on factors early on. At moment the options are broad....and they should respond broadly to it. Boko should be the one making demands and not the FG.

The presence of Shekau will come later, without the demand he will present himself if FG plays its hand appropriately.

FG should use a third party as mouthpiece to praise the boko's effort and laud their interest in peace. This mouthpiece should then offer to serve as
host or observer in the negotiation.

By all means, FG must refrain from direct demands...particularly on individuals. That will trvialize and turn the negotiation into personal vendatta.

PoliticsRe: 1914 Amalgamation - A Historical Mistake? : Nairaland Political Debate by NegroNtns(m): 8:44am On Nov 02, 2012
Obiagu1: None British "government" or none crown land were acquired not amalgamated. Niger Coast Protectorate final boarder line was drawn in 1900 and no amalgamation with other protectorates had taken place.
Same with Lagos, Yorubaland was added not amalgamated to Lagos and final border line was known in 1900 too. Same year a brand new protectorate, northern nigeria, was formed as well.

This gave rise to 3 independent territories just like Goldcoast protectorate, Sierra Leone Protectorate, Kenya Protectorate etc.
.....you are looping back to that analogy of Tobey again.

Acquired, amalgamated, protectorate, ....big deal! The whole land was fvkd up and thats the bottom line.
PoliticsRe: 1914 Amalgamation - A Historical Mistake? : Nairaland Political Debate by NegroNtns(m): 8:22am On Nov 02, 2012
PhysicsQED: Obiagu, the issue here seems to be the extent of the Niger Coast Protectorate vs. the extent of the protectorate of Southern Nigeria. I seem unable so far to convince you that the Niger Coast Protectorate was originally rather limited in extent before the 1900 amalgamation so here is yet another source:

'Of the coast-line of Nigeria, about one-half only was within the Royal Niger Company's jurisdiction. The remaining half — at the chief ports of which treaties had been made by Consul Hewitt in 1884 for the Imperial Government — was administered by Imperial authorities, first as the "Oil Rivers Protectorate," and after May 1893 as the "Niger Coast Protectorate." ' - Encyclopaedia Britannica, 10th edition, 1902

'The sovereign rights of the Niger Company were transferred to the British Crown on 1st January 1900, and the whole territory, including the coast protectorate, became the protectorate of Nigeria, divided into a northern and southern government, each of which is administered by a high commissioner appointed by the Colonial Office.' - Encyclopaedia Britannica, 10th edition, 1902

'Since its transfer to the British Crown Nigeria has been divided for administrative purposes into the two governments of northern and southern Nigeria, the dividing line running east and west in about 7° 10' N., crossing the Niger a little above Idda. Southern Nigeria thus includes an area many times larger than the old Niger Coast Protectorate.' - Encyclopaedia Britannica, 10th edition, 1902
Physics,

You saved him tonight. I was laying a treacherous trap for him.

Im not sure the cowboy has yet to make connections with "protectorate" and treaties with the coastal kings.

As is usual, he is lost in the mirage of a "virtual" state status bestowed on Alaigbo, courtesy of the amalgamation and a newly named geolocation called Nigeria. Igboman flaunting to define who is Nigerian and who is not.

Obiagu, dont open this can bwoy...it will unveil your irrelevance in the foundation of this nation.
