PoliticsRe: An Open Letter To Seun On The Shameful Behaviours Of Jarus by netotse(m): 1:28am On Aug 24, 2010
seanet02:
Dear Seun, Good Afternoon or Night anytime you see this thread.
I want to inform you that i am not happy with the  activities of JARUS here.
First and foremost is his editing of my posts, there were several times that i will post here and he will edit it, there was this particular one where i TYPED "PUTTING THE CART BEFORE THE HORSE" the next thing i saw was  " PUTTING THE SEA BEFORE THE HORSE"
This is in the South East leaders endorse Jonathan thread.

The second is his hiding my threads and when i complain he will said that i should check my recent posts which truly when i checked will be there only for it to disappear when i checked my recent posts back later. This is evident in " CELEBRATING THE LEGACIES OF OBAFEMI AWOLOWO"

The third is his deleting all my  POST THAT SEEMS TO BE AGAINST BABANGIDA WHILE PROMOTING THOSE THAT SUPPORTS IBB" This is evident in the Ogun launches ibb campaign. I dont really know his problem. I am the not the first to complain about this. When honerich and one other guy complain about this, i thought it was a joke.
To you JARUS, i know there is a probability of you banning me before Seun sees this message, if you Ban me, then you STAND for nothing but PARTIALITY BECAUSE DEMOCRACY IS ALL ABOUT FACT AND I AM SPEAKING FROM FACTS.

ONE LAST MESSAGE TO YOU JARUS,  WHY DO YOU SEEMS TO HATE ANYBODY WHO DOES NOT SUPPORT BABANGIDA? IF YOU HAVE BEEN PAID FOR THIS, CARRY YOUR JOB TO PAPERS.

NO MATTER HOW YOU FRUSTRATE ME,

I WILL NEVER SUPPORT IBB
that's the spambot you're describing o. . .none of the allegations you've made holds air not to talk of water, guy, maybe you should take your time and articulate your posts (preferably in english).

PoliticsRe: Let's Have Your Complaints Here by netotse(m): 7:26pm On Aug 22, 2010
my complaint is somewhat petty grin. The thread 'how to move nigeria forward' serves what purpose? there's nothing it contributes to NL is there?

especially as it's locked so we cant post in it

personally i think that thread exists simply so the unsuspecting visitor to this section can go 'awww they actually care about nigeria' so in other words,

in simple english, it's a form of 'eye service', a cursory look at the topics in the politics section will show that the developmental threads get the shorter end of the stick, the simple God-honest truth is that most of the people that post in the politics section are not the sort of people that can contribute meaningfully to any development topic, we concentrate too much on politics of tribe and ish, it's not even as if we're arguing about what we ourselves have done, we keep on arguing about what our forebears have done as if that would make a difference.

why dont we have somewhere where those of us who understand that ideas have no colour or tribe, who are willing to refine each others' ideas, who still believe that there's still a lot of good to be found in all parts of nigera can go and scheme on how we can take nigeria back from the thieves that are in control, you never know, one of us just might get a lucky break, can you imagine how cool it'd be if someone gives a speech on tv thanking NLers for refining his ideas? of course we know that cant happen in this section, any thread worth it's salt will be derailed before it reaches the 3rd page.

in simple english, i'd still like developmental section, however if that isn't possible, i'd still settle for our getting rid of that 'testament to mediocrity' called 'List Of Development Topics (How To Move Nigeria Forward)'

i realize that this is a lousy attempt at provoking a guilty conscience but i'mma keep trying though. . . grin

The proposed National Super Grid
By Sun News Publishing
Friday, August 20, 2010

President Goodluck Jonathan's recent approval of the immediate construction of a new National Super Grid to boost Nigeria's electricity generation to about 7000 megawatts (MW) by April 2011 is good news.

But the amount that has been endorsed for release by the president for the project - N525 billion - is a lot of money that should be effectively deployed to ensure that the objective is realised.

The 700 KV Super Grid is expected to be completed in four years at a cost of $3.5 billion. It is a component of the government's new roadmap for the power sector, which will be unveiled in Lagos on August 26.

The new Grid is expected to increase the nation's capacity to transmit power across vast distances, which the existing 330/132 KV Grid cannot do. It will be funded as a Federal asset with additional financing from private investors and international development agencies.

It has been estimated that it will increase power generation to 6939 MW by April 2011 and 14019 by December 2013. While we support this latest bid to resolve Nigeria's acute power shortage problem with a Super Grid, Nigerians cannot but be sceptical because this is not the first time that we are hearing grandiose plans for power generation in the country. Huge sums have been committed to power projects over the years without any commensurate improvement in power supply.

The case of the $16 billion reportedly committed to power projects by the erstwhile president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, without any positive impact on power supply in the country during his administration is still very fresh. The probe of the expenditure by the House of Representatives did not yield any significant results.

Nigerians are tired of failed promises and gargantuan expenditure in the power sector. We want to see electricity in our houses and factories and not on the pages of newspapers. Whatever amount is spent to increase electricity supply in the country is money well spent, provided the stated objectives are realised. Increased power supply will give the nation a boost, and the economy will be better for it.

It is time for action in the power sector. The people cannot continue to live on promises. To make progress in our quest for stable electricity supply, we need to determine how sums that were voted for the sector in the past were expended. It is important to account for the huge sums released in the recent past, before another N525 billion is put in, otherwise, the new investment may end up the same way as the former ones.

There should be closure on the matter of $16 billion investment in electricity generation by the Obasanjo administration to reassure the people that it did not just go down the cesspit of corruption. Also, that the proposed investment is not just a ploy by the Jonathan administration to feather its own nest in preparation for the coming general election.

Efforts should be made to ensure that all outstanding projects in the sector are delivered, to lay a good example for those who have been charged with the construction of the new National Super Grid. Nigerians no longer want to hear stories and excuses for non-perfromance. We need to see a change. We, however, hope that the latest contract has been carefully thought through. It has provided new hope that the nation will soon get out of the power cul de sac, which should not be dashed.

April is just eight months away. By that time, the people will assess the impact of the new Super Grid and the government will receive either praises or condemnation for the project. The government, last year, failed to deliver on the 6000 MW promise. Everything should be done to ensure that there is no room for failure on this fresh promise of 7000 MW by April 2011.

http://www.sunnewsonline.com/webpages/opinion/editorial/2010/aug/20/editorial-20-08-2010-001.htm
the sad thing about nigeria is that the people that are qualified to talk about the power sector(by virtue of the fact that they actually understand it) wont comment(i wonder if it's cos they're never asked), it's people that dont understand that are only to willing to run their mouths.

as per the bolded^^ how on earth does a super grid serve to increase generation? it can reduce losses(our losses are said to be btw 40 and 50%) but not reduce generation. and why the flaming f**k are they claiming the 330kV transmission lines haven't been able to transmit power? mennn i'm sick and tired of reading all the misinformation that is passed on to nigerians.

P.S. when it's all said and done i really dont give a shit cos out of that 525billion naira, e sure me say some of it go reach my hand one way or the other grin

ok. . .i need help from you guys. . .y'all being older and more experienced and all.

i've been here for two months and it doesn't look like we're going to be going to site until october, i'm bored as hell, the learning curve here has flattened out, besides drafting all them silly arse letters i pretty much understand the tendering process now. I hate stagnating and so i decided to look for constructive stuff that i could do which would ensure that i dont become depressed and i've come up with a couple

1. I've downloaded some reports on the power sector dating back to the 60s from the worldbank site and i've started reading them already
2. I've downloaded the OCW(open courseware) from MIT, so i can brush up on my theory(i've always hated all them calculations)
3. I'm still preparing for GRE(might as well get it out of the way now)
4. I and my friends plan to conduct load flow studies on the nigerian grid and this'll require me learning to use some softwares like this(this ties in with no 2 cos there'll be calculations i need to learn and ish)
5. I've been considering taking a few power system courses online(seeing as there aren't any certifications)

i need advise on how i could possibly prioritize/juggle these activities, trying to do all of them at once just ensures i end up confused, and once i'm not learning something new i start to get depressed(one has only so much time with a million and one things to do) i'm still averagely young grin and i want to be in the best position to ride the wave when it comes. . .

P.S. i'm not one of them bookish types o, as concerns other wink activities i pretty much have themit on lockdown
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
on the work side, the commercial bids we submitted for some 330kV transmission projects are being opened today and my boss is scared as hell: the man too like money sha, see as im bin dey inflate prices anyhow when we were putting the bid together and now he's scared that he might have put himself in a position where his backing wont be able to do anything. . .lol

Never put the heater on while its raining. If u have a/c its the best option. If u dont put your fan to max, direct the air to the defrost vent(the 1 at the back of the dash and allow fresh air i.e remove from recycle air button.
why do u use never? i use the heater(i dont have an airconditioner installed), and i find it clears the mist faster, of course it's not super comfy so i alternate between cool air and hot air.

@OP
omo that your dash board is 'one kind' o. . .but i attached a picture that should help.

i think position 1 is what you need to redirect air to the vents at the bottom of your windscreen, position 2 directs the air to the top vents(the ones you're used to) position 3 to top and bottom vents,(the bottom vents are for your feet) etc, to the one i circled(position 1) should be for the windscreen, however i'm not sure since it follows a different convention from what i'm used to, you can experiment and see sha. . . the item that i circled and labelled 4 is the sign for the demisting thingy, i'm not sure what it's doing there, i guess they're telling you to put the fan switch to max when you want to demist.

try the knob settings and get back to us. . .also when next you're driving in rain, try both cool air and heated air and let us know which you prefer. . .safe!

work is pretty much the same boring routine(submitting tenders late, inflating invoices, getting on my bosses nerves, flirting with the accounts babe, you know the drill). . .people will soon get tired of me asking when next we'll have to go to site. . .i'm too young for all this paper-engineering now. . .feels like i've been working much longer that two months.

my boss said i'm 'shackled'. . .that i want to have all the drawings and circuit diagrams(basically as mch information as possible) before taking any decision and that isn't always possible, he says i need to learn to approximate. . .i think he's right though, i'm prolly too scared i might make some silly assumption and mess something up so i tend to freeze when confronted with something i have no idea about.

i'm now begining to understand how corporations are built. . .i've met someone that likes power as much as i do, a 'returnee' he has an msc in power, he's doing his NYSC at the station where i did my IT, he's interested in the technical side while i'm more interested in the operations, lately we've been getting together with another of our friends who's power-crazy every weekend and plan/plot, we have our first PP tomorrow grin(we're not getting paid though). . .

@tmoni
yep i heard about that one too, it's been postponed sef. . . men if it's the nigerian power sector, i'm plugged in like the national grid o. . . grin

the sad thing about nigeria is that ppl blame PHCN for the power situation while it's the government that has messed er'thing up. . .anyone that understands the sector a little will realise that the professionals dont talk, it's always the politicians and pseudo-experts that come to feed the public lies(remember uninterrupted electricity in 6 months, 6000MWs, sale of distribution companies?) and of course, they'll chop the lie, hook, line and sinker, the simple God honest truth is that the solution to the power problem is more political than technical. Of course when we manage to solve the political problems, the technical  ones will catch up with us later, but those ones are easier to handle.

as per the new grid, lets wait and see, one thing i'm sure about is that the VP has a better understanding of the power sector than jonathan, all GJ does is read prepared statements, and his having Barth Nnaji as SSA on power doesn't really help matters, but seeing as it just might pay me on the long run, who am i to complain grin

the simple, God honest truth is that at the rate we're going, short of a miracle, nigerians wont have uninterrupted electricty  in 10 years time. . .
