If anyone is considering coming to Frankfurt or its environs, I might be willing to help d best way I can.

We need Nigerian students here badly as it can get really lonely without ur people around

Also I was in a seminar like two weeks ago wia d president (vc) of d uni in fulda was in attendance and he said all those who will apply to dia MSc engineering courses will be admitted as dey av many spaces with few applicants. But d downside is DAT all dia courses are in German. So if u can speak and write in German, u myt consider the school.

Finally as for paying for uni - assist, I can be of assistance but u will av to pay more due to d bank charges involved in withdrawing in Germany with a Naija ATM card. Have a friend who still has functional Naija ATM and I myt b able to convince him to help.

1.Now dat dere is no afta-grad job for non-eu graduates,do they still allow non-eu graduates to stay for 18 months after graduation?Do they still allow to work while studying?

2.Also,wot method do u tink a non-eu graduate can now,since no afta-grad job,employ to get permanent residence?

3.Is it easy to get a placement for vocational training in Germany? If yes,pls do u know some of dere requirements?
Thank you
I can't remember saying any wat u are quoting me here oo, y will I b in Germany if dia is no after job biko. Pls learn to read and understand, it will assist u in ur German adventure

Danke der Boss! Pls I am curious about something, what would you advise someone who will turn 30 few weeks after entering Germany?
Public insurance companies myt sign u up and den invite u over again after u clock 30 to increase ur monthly fee to 130€. That was wat dey did to me though myn was months after and not weeks.

If ur school allows it, go to the public insurance company, ask for a rejection letter from them on the grounds of age making them understand u can't afford the high fee u will b paying monthly after u clock 30, take the letter to ur school and get d go ahead to go private. Then u can sign up for the one I posted.

Also, you've hit my concern and private queries on this over 30 insurance of a thing. Danke Schon bruder.

One other question i will like to ask is would you rather advice one learn the language here (at least to B1 level) or better get there and learn it through the intensive class (as provided by some courses before start of program)?

Stay blessed
i will advise u learn it in nigeria if u have the time, at least a1 level cus u will be so busy here u wont even have time to learn it, except if an intensive program is part of ur school course that av bin inserted into ur timetable. outside that, learn it in nigeria cus even durung the holidays here, u will be running after money once u see ur block act going down like a leaking fuel keg
TravelRe: General German Visa Enquiries Part 2 by nevilbot: 4:39pm On Aug 21, 2015
Now to the main questions

1. Please, introduce yourself, course, school and city. (if applicable)

im neville (nevilbot), msc neuroscience, Johahn wolfgang goethe univeristy, frankfurt

2. How does German educational system differ from the system you were used to?

its just like u are comparing being asleep with being dead. a lot of practical and research stuffs my german classmates have done in their bsc days, i am just learning them. during our orientation wen we had to introduce ourselves and they were discussing their bsc thesis, i felt ashamed and pity for nigerian educational system. here its about research research and research. also copy and pasting is not taken lightly. it is a very serious offense that can earn u a visit to the school senate committe

3. What academic challenge(s) did you face or are you facing currently and how are/did you tackling/tackle them?

i initially had issues understanding dia manner of asking questions cus they do this funny one sentence/one word answers that im not used to especially coming from a la cram la pour background. im not ashamed to say i failed my ist exam here and had to rewrite it. but studying harder and taking time to understand dia system helped. also i spent more time reading textbooks instead of the lecture slides thinking that was the best way to go(actually fininshed a 1000page textbook cover to cover) but i still failed even though the lectures were from the textbook. so the moral lesson here is listen to ur profs during lectures, most times they already tell u wat they will ask in exams without u knowing it

3. What is your (academic) advise to prospective Nigerian student coming over to study?(summarized)

You av to be passionate abt the course u came here for to succeed in it. if u just see this msc or bsc trip as an avenue to escape from the mess in nigeria, u wont succeed academically in Germany. and plz wen u are coming over, even if u are the best graduate in ur school with a gp of 5.o, just drop ur ego and format ur brain at the airport in lagos. come here like u do not know anything bcus actually we know nothing in Nigeria (no insult intended)

4. Do your school have a size-able number of international students and what is the state of interaction like with them?

yes we do, but my social interraction with them do not go beyond lectures

5. Did you find it difficult integrating into the society and how were you able to overcome it if you had?

well i did not really find it difficult integrating cus i was the ist black guy to ever gain admission into my dept so they felt i must be very brilliant to achieve that and went out of dia way to make me comfy. as for non school environment, i was lucky enuf to meet a nigerian student married to a german on my second day in school and he has bin really helpful. then as a Jehovah's witness, no problem with integration cus we see each other as one big family and i couldnt ask for more. they av bin really wonderful

6. In your opinion, do you think a hard working Nigerian student with a particular result can maintain his/her academic performance in Germany with the same efforts? A scale will be appreciated, I know time is not the only or the best measure of hard work but For instance, A spends 6 hours of study everyday in Nigeria, GPA=4 ". ". ". ". ". ". ". in Germany GPA=?

i cant say i really understand this question but an hardworking student will succeed anywia just that u need to put more hardwork here in germany especially if u are working yle studying. its not easy to combine both. for instance i go to lab daily from 9-5 then i myt work sometyms from 6-11 and get home 12, rush to eat and sleep and wake up 6 to be able to meet the train, it takes a lot of discipline to succeed here

7. Like in any society, there are distractions or factors that reduces performance, what are the major culprits in Germany for an unenlightened
Nigerian JJC?

distractions are everywia even in nigeria and if u are the type who likes them, u will see them in abundance here like women, clubs, works (yes working yle studying can also be a distraction), also unlimited internet access and having free access to movies online, premiership free online can cus u to stumble. the key to success in germany is time management, plz master the craft of time management and u will be fine. germans also hate latecoming.

8. Most of the male or even females at one time or the other would have fantasized having a German Prince or princess, what are their chances? Do the shy Germans gals take to Nigerians? Can Ahbie, crowns or Amahtrendy, twinkle, Obiwann, Eke, Trendy, swtxt, hollaytan, Kennyoguns, get their prince/princess charming easily?

women yapa, if u want ladies, u will see. but personally oyinbos do not interest me so i do not av them as friends beyond class. they dont excite me in anyway (God av mercy on me). i see them as too bland and unsexy though they get fine ones too with all the assets. if u need them, be the outgoing type and u will soon get ursef one. clubs, bars restuarants parks any outdoor events, germans do not like staying indoors especially wen the weather is favourable

9. List 5 most important items an intending new comer should bring along to Germany.

ur international passport, Garri, Garri, Garri and Garri

10. Give 5 most important tip to surviving in Germany, jobs and all.

1. do not keep ur problems to ursef. talk to people. wateva the enormity of ur problem, talk to people and u will be surprised at how helpful germans or nigerians in germany can be
2. learn the language (im still feeling the negative impact of not speaking german till today
3. be friendly
4. do not skip on paying any of ur bills. once u default, u pay extra, germans do not joke with money and bills
5. do not av sex with a lady that has taken alcohol even if its one cup and even if the sex is consensual. wait for her to be sober especially if its the one night stand kinda lady that u met in a bar. wen she wakes up, calm and sober, she myt scream rape and its ur word against hers. prison straight

11 on a scale of 1-10 rate your city in terms of hustle and the closest best place in terms of jobs to your city
if 10 is the best then i give frankfurt 10/10 on job hustles. students come from far off kassel, marburg , giessen to work in frankfurt cus frankfurt is to germany wat lagos is to nigeria i.e the commercial capital of germany

12. Just give your opinion on these claims below by indicating with an Agree (A), Neutral (N) or Disagree (D)

a. Germans are cold : yes they can be especially if u stay in a village

b. They hate late coming: A they hate it with a passion. i once lost my job for a day cus i was 5 mins late (the rule was arrive 30mins before u are scheduled to resume, i arrived 25mins before i was supposed to resume)

c. They are racist:i disagree, except my mad nebor who is always high on cannabis, all germans i av related with have bin wonderful. I even had a trip to a village in the east of germany near chemnitz some months back. the people in this village had never seen a black man in real life before and they were totally shocked that not one but 3 black people was in theie village. They had to come ask my host questions the next day if things were ok. but they also left a comment, that unlike wat they av bin exposed to on tv, we were all smiling so me must be really nice.

D. They don't have time for chitchat: depends on the situation

E. They are introverts: in winter yes but in summer no

F. They love beer: if u give them urine in a beer bottle, they would av drank it ist before realising its not beer
thanks all

Some weeks back my very good friend prophet eke(rtd) which u all know as eke40seven invited me 2 com give my german experience account and even though i took so long to ansa, here i am. i just hope u guys bear with me cus its not that i forgot abt here. i read posts daily just bin busy with stuffs. you guys coming to germany this winter will soon understand.

back to the issues at hand, b4 i ansa eke's questions, i need to drop some infos, 2 specifically

1) a lot of people av contacted me about the job link i posted some months back. some even started bothering me about it even though they are yet to be in germany. well sorry to inform you that nigerian students can no longer av access to the job. this is because u need a document called gewerbeischien (business license) for the job. the german govt in its infinite wisdom however deems it fit that non-eu students can not av dat document cus with that document, u can be self employed and run your own bizness in germany. so plz stop sending me msgs abt the job again. And to some who contacted me asking me how they will get to germany to come and work, plz i am not a travel or job agent. the only way i know that can bring u to germany is thru study. thanks

2)the second issue i will like to address is the issue of student health insurance specifically for any student that will be above 30 years on ur arrival in germany (even if u are one seconds above 30 years on ur arrival, u fall into this category). It is a known fact that students over 30 yrs cant take the public health insurance any longer so the option left is the private for which we all run to mawista bcus it has one of the cheapest premium monthly. if you are the type of student that rarely goes to a hospital and u do not av medical issues that warrants u to see doctors frequently, yes mawista is good for u. just pay ur premiums and enjoy ur life. but if you are the type that av reasons to visit hospitals frequently, or u will need a surgery or u want to feel safe about ursef, plz and plz, do not (and i repeat) do not use mawista. my reason being that mawista will never pay 100% of ur hospital bills wen it really matters. they might pay for the small small hospital checkups but wen it comes to real bills like surgery and long term hospitalization, they will pay some % based on ur contract yle u bear the rest. i know students presently who are in debts running into 3000euros cus mawista did not pay their total fees wen they had real medical issues.

the best health insurance company to sign up with if u are above 30 is the one that came out of an agreement btw the deutsche studentenwerk (German national student union) and hanse merkur. it is meant purely for international students above 30 yrs. just sign up for their optimum tariff plan wia u pay a monthly premium of 78 euros and u are 100% covered should you need any form of hospitalization or treatment. this is the link to their page. https://portal.versicherungsdienste.de/dsw-studenten-kv/index.en.html they even pay your burial/repatriation of remains cost should u die in germany up to 10,000 euros (this will not be anyone's portion though). information they say is power, plz assist ursef and do not fall into unnecessary debt yle u are still thinking on how to manage block act. mawista is a not the best public health insurance u can get as a student

any other question, i will be pleased to ansa. thanks and God bless our hustles

Hello House, guten Tag!,
Thank God for he has done it.
Been offered admission to the University of Bremen.
Honestly I am so so happy coz I really want to study this course.
But This school kinda wants me to go through the wire before everything to settle well well. I actually did the application online and now that I've been offered admission they want to-
- pay a semester fee of 282 Euro before Aug 15 2015
- send them certified copies of my credentials and language proficiency results before Oct 26.
My question is - is this how its done?
Why do I have to pay the fees while I am still in Nijja? Wat if the visa doesn't workout well.
hmm!
That is how its done. If u don't pay before d date, u jejely forfeited ur admission by ursef. Wen u get to embassy for interview and u are asked wat prep av u made towards ur study, dat is d answer u give dat u av paid ur enrolment fee.u av to pay it even ur interview.

If its UK USA or Canada, won't u pay school fees before dey send u d document u will take to embassy?

Hello House,
Getting ready for Visa application but one more clarification is needed plssss.

Going by the visa application requirements, I saw clearly that the Primary school leaving certificate and secondary (waec) are needed.
the problem is, the names on my Primary school leaving Cert is might actually be confusing and lead to maybe doubt or denial.

My full name is Chiemeka kennedy Nzehika and I have made a conscious attempt to maintain this full name in all my papers since I became responsible for my actions.

But when I was 12yrs my Primary school Cert was issued as Emeka kennedy Nzehika maybe my parents didn't consider the implications b4 giving the short form of my native name.

Please house, must I include this Primary certificate in my visa application?. or Can I just forget about it and go ahead with my Sec cert and the rest? Is there any thing I can do to forestall any shortcoming?. Pls I need your contribution especially those who have gone through this stage before.
My pry SCH cert bears Adesanoye olabode, my waec Adesanoye Nevil olabode yle every document after that bears Adesanoye Neville olabode and im using my 9 month in Germany already even though I presented these documents at d embassy. So use ur teeth to count ur tongue

I did send the docs from Lagos and followed EKE's advice through and through. The issues therein are that unlike regular couriers that begin to transit the docs by the next day, Nipost may take an extra 3days before it leaves naija. You can track regular couriers to see the journey made so far but with Nipost you can only hope and pray as you can't track your package. EKE and co may have chosen very responsive schools who send feedback upon receiving the document unlike most who take forever to notify you or update the application portal to show they have received the docs in good time.

All in all, my opinion is that if you have got the cash kindly send via courier. You end up sleeping better at night!
Something I want to understand from you guys is if nipost is getting worse or better. During my own application period 2013/2014, I sent close to 9 diff letters to germany, Finland and Netherlands and d one that took d longest to deliver was 15 days to tübingen in Germany. Mind u all I sent was from akure, ondo town and Owerri and I could start tracking dem like the second day. Within 2 days dey were already in Lagos and after5 days dey were off the shores of Nigeria.

Hope its not d dieing days of this administration dat is killing my beloved nipost so. Or is it dat u guys are not doing sumtin write cus dat 32 days go fear person ooo!!

Dear Collins,

thank you for your e-mail.

We gladly provide you with further information about the calculation of your final grade.

As the university certificate shows, your graduation score is 3.06 (out of 5).
According to anabin, the maximum score for the bachelor's degree is 5 and the minimum passing score is 2.

The conversion from your graduation score into a German grade is carried out, using the so-called "Modifizierte Bayerische Formel":

              Nmax - Nd
mark = -------------------- * 3 + 1
            Nmax - Nmin

N max (maximum mark) = 5
N min (lowest pass mark) = 2
N d (your graduation score) = 3.406

                5 - 3.06
mark = -------------------- * 3 + 1 = (0,646 * 3) +1 = 1,939 + 1 = 2,939
                5 - 2

Hence, your grade is equivalent to a German grade of 2,9.
Within the German grading system the grade of 1,0 is the best possible grade and the grade of 4,0 the minimum passing grade.

Anabin clearly states that 1 means pass but 2 is the minimal grade point average for a degree.

We hope this information is helpful for you and wish you all the best for your application.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate contact us again.

Kind regards
Lina Lehmann

I did not have to submit any German proficiency certificate. The question I want to ask is that.. during my student visa application would I be asked to submit a German proficiency certificate to enter Germany? It is very important I know now. Thanks

Guys I need your advice, University of Bonn sent a mail to me to inform me that my application for masters in environmental risk and human security is successful and meet all the criteria but due to the fact that the quota is filled up that I am on the waiting list till August, but one week after my application they sent a mail to me that I should send my Ielts or TOEFL result to them or my application will not be processed, that they don't accept English as language of university study, I decided to ignore them because I don't have time to go and register for the TOEFL exam, I never thought that they will process my application, Germans are good ooo ,they really want people to come and study in their country. Is possible for me to write this TOEFL or ielts and result comes out before August, how can I go about this, where will I register for it and how much, my not having this TOEFL or ielts have cost me university of Duisburg Essen admission and on their website they said that if your previous study was in English that the person can apply but last week they sent a mail to me that the rule has changed, that I should send my TOEFL or ielts result so that they will grant the admission , the deadlines giving to me has passed now, I wonder why they cannot accept English speaking countries weac certificate or other exams although some universities i apply to accept it.
Plz my guy stop wondering y dey can't accept our waec. Wat you should b wondering now is how to get ielts done latest by July. The result comes out two weeks after u sit for.

Sincerely I don't understand y some of us run from these English exams cus it boost our chances of admission. Anything to give u d edge over d hundreds of applications dat ur course will get should b embraced by all in my own view. The fact that we study in English all our life should also b a reason we should b confident to write these exams. Ielts is the simplest exam I ever wrote and it simply gives ur application the edge wen its included

For a word of advice, don't write TOEFL cus d stress of going thru an agent before u can get registered is sumtin else. Write ielts which u can apply for 35k by ursef online without having to pay anybody. Pick the last week in may or d ist week in July to write ur exam and ur result will b out in 2 weeks. Ielts will even send a copy to the school on ur behalf for free if u indicate it while applying.

All d best

Hi, guys

1. Is anyone here applying to The University of Hamburg or any school in Hamburg?

2. Who can give me some info. on health insurance, is it better to get health insurance here or should I get it in Germany and if so do I tick no in the health insurance question in the visa form? Plus i heard something about getting travel insurance... can someone please explain properly for me.

Thanks
there is no health insurance you get here in nigeria that will work for you in germany so plz do not waste your money buying health insurance until u land in germo gidigba. in the section u are refering to, just write 'will get an insurance upon arrival in Germany' period!! the embassy is aware of that fact that u can not live in germany without an health insurance so no having one now is not an excuse not to give u ur visa so far u perform well during ur interview. shikena

Sorry for the confusion.

1. I am going for a conference in Germany. Dates june 3-6. Company is paying for the ticket. Based on that, German embassy gave me a visa for 10 days but valid only from June 1.

2. Because company is paying for a ticket to Germany, i figured I would take my vacation now rather than having to pay for a ticket to wherever in Europe later in the year. My plan was to go to Switzerland and England before the conference. I would only have to pay maybe about 200-300 euros from my pocket. I have a valid UK visa for this venture.

3. The company is only paying for my transport and accomodation to Germany. I'm flying Qatar to Germany, then flying Lufthansa to London. I am doing this on May 21. I will have to get my luggage and check it in on Lufthansa so I am assuming that I will have to go through immigration for this and it will be a problem since my visa isn't valid till the 1st of June.

Summary: I have a German visa that is valid from June 1. I have travel plans to London on May 21 from Frankfurt. I'm flying Qatar airways to frankfurt and then I bought a cheap Lufthansa ticket to London so I will need to retrieve and check in my baggage in Frankfurt which means I will have to go through immigration. Should I get a transit visa? I have a valid UK visa.

Once again sorry for the confusion.
i think i now get u. u mean u want to enter frankfurt on the 21ist wen ur visa will start counting on the ist of june? based on that info, u will not be allowed to pass through immigrations into frankfurt cus ur do not av a valid visa yet to enter into germany soil. u want to use frankfurt as a transit point then u should fly luftansa straight from nigeria cus flying qatar puts u at the risk of bin turned back at the point of entry since ur visa aint valid yet. the only other logical thing u can do is fly qatar to london thereby u will not need to pass through frankfurt before u visa becomes valid.

if you still want to go to london before that june ist, then fly luftansa from nigeria and u will be treated like a transit passenger in frankfuirt or 2) fly qatar to uk and u wont av to pass through frankfurt.

if you go through with this ur plan of flying qatar to frankfurt wen ur visa neva become valid, then u are on ur own o. i even doubt it if qatar will take you to frankfurt once they see u dont av a valid visa once u reach the airport in qatar. that is based on my experience at the airport in instabul turkey wia my german entry visa was hyper scrutinised by the turkish airline officials before allowing me join my connecting flight to frankfurt

Hi guys. Got my visa yesterday, thanks for the advice.

However, I think I might be a bit screwed. The conference I'm going for is from jun 3-6. My visa is from jun 1- 10. Meanwhile, I had already booked a ticket to Frankfurt from May 20. a company is buying my ticket to Frankfurt so I decided to take my vacation and just pay a bit of money to go to London from Frankfurt from May 20. I told the officer this and even showed her the reservation for the flight to London since I didn't have a hotel reservation until the 2nd.

I'm flying Qatar to Frankfurt and Lufthansa to London so I will probably have to get my luggage which means going thru immigration. So do I need to get a transit visa?
U need a valid UK visa to enter UK as ur shengen visa does not give u access to UK soil. If u already av a UK visa, u don't need a transit visa to pass through Frankfurt to london as dey operate on d EU region free movement policy

Plz I have am important question.. A friend of mine has a link DAT offers 3months Germany company work visa..he says the company will pick me up and Visa extension is immediately I resume work there.. He says its 400k without bta and flight.. He also said its a no interview stuff.. Plz how true is dis? I don't want to fall into scam.
It smells terribly like a scam already. In fact saying u won't do visa interview confirms its a scam. Even when u want to convert ur visa to resident permit in Germany u will still do a mini interview on ur source of finance wia u present ur documents. My guy b wise, its a scam scam. D company no get name ni, with d high no of unemployed German speakers in Germany y will a company come to Nigeria to recruit Sumone who might not even speak d language.

My guy shine ur eye, if its not a scam tell ur friend to go ist and prove it

Its not funded by daad but by d department with some companies sponsoring dem. D course is MSc neuroscience and its a MSc/PhD program. U go straight to PhD after one year if ur grades are good and ur stipend increases to 1500€
