Welcome on board Bank450
The movement is open to any entrepreneur who has tall dreams. You impress by being a student and preparing for the real world of business before you leave school.

It's not compulsory for us to meet physcially (though we may eventually meet offline, incase of any social event)
Meanwhile, let us invite more people here and start from here. I believe something good with come out of the initiative.
Once again, welcome to the world of possibilities.

BusinessRe: Simplifying Business In Nigeria - Tolu Ogunlesi by newacca: 11:17am On Jul 28, 2014
Thank you for sharing this piece. It occur to me that our Government is undermining the economic role of SMEs and they force most of these businesses out of operation by frustrating them with unfriendly law, taxes and policies.

Yet,they continue to raise alarm on the rate of unemployment in Nigeria. Well, I urge Entrepreneurs to look inwardly, there is always positivity in every negativity. You never lose. It's either you win or learn.
BusinessRe: Young And Aspiring Entrepreneurs In Abeokuta, let's Meet! by newacca(op):
jamalee: Thanks bros, I really appreciate your courage. Young Entrepreneurs like us have been sharing ideas, thoughts, etc in major Cities like Abuja, Lagos, Calabar, Port-Harcourt, etc but Abeokuta was exempted. This idea you brought online have been burning in my heart for a while now, and I'm very happy to come across this thread today. I'm Babatunde Ibrahim from Abeokuta(a typical Egba man). I stayed in Ifo now, though. I'm planning to start a business in Abeokuta by August but I'm short of fund. The business is in the food industry and it is a serviced-based business. Bros, how can you help me with my short of fund? Any help will be fully appreciated. Thanks.
Thanks for showing up Babatunde. I'm impressed you are looking forward to starting a new business in Abeokuta. If you believe you can do it,you are half way there.
Unfortunately, I cannot help you in raising fund to start your business, we can only share tips on how to source and raise fund. In my opinion, raising fund comes near the last thing to do in the process of launching a start-up. Making this call is part of the important process. Who knows, you may meet someone who is ready to invest in your idea, then your financial commitment will be minimal. You may be informed of links to organizations that give grant or loans. You may even meet your co-founder or employee there.
.
So much to get from network and social events than you think.
So,Babatunde let us call others and meet, nobody knows how angel investors operate. wink you never can tell.
BusinessRe: Project Fast Fruit:Corporate Fruit Selling Business. by newacca: 9:07am On Jul 28, 2014
delaruh: The idea is great but I think environment is a great factor which will determine the speed of the growth of the business , you need to carefully select your location and target your customer and also your look and packaging is very important , this is a home made product with no NAFDAC approval so your look should be able to assure your customer that its well prepared in a clean way , carefully select your colors when doing your branding , be attractive and friendly.
Very correct.
BusinessYoung And Aspiring Entrepreneurs In Abeokuta, let's Meet! by newacca(op):
A single tree cannot make forest ~ Yoruba SW,Nigeria.
I have been thinking about this idea for some time and I feel it's high time I started the call. A lot of entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs everywhere are meeting up and sharing great ideas and concept to support their business, living standard and betterment of the society.

Networking is one of the key factors that contributes to success stories of SMEs, but it has been overlooked. Thanks to trade associations, chambers of commerce and some professional bodies that are still connecting businesses and professionals together.  In the recent times, young entrepreneurs and co-founders, especially the Techies are working, brainstorming, sharing ideas and gadgets together in a single space in their community ( co-working space or hub ).

This is happening in major cities across the world, including Nigeria major cities like: Lagos, PH and Abuja; and it is really working out well for these guys. They are coming out with solutions to societal problems from logistics to food, from travel to retail, from photography to health. It also comes with its own result: financial reward, self-fulfillment and recognition.

Though they pay their prices by denying themselves of some privileges while cooking ideas up, yet they achieved their goals and they are not resting on their laurels. They are still calling for more collaboration and networking through different start-up events, Labs, boot camps etc.

THE CALL
I am calling on young entrepreneurs and aspiring founders in all areas: Tech, Agrobiz, Project mgt. Art, Media/Entertainment, Business savvies in Abeokuta (Ogun State) and it's environ to come together. Let's network to share ideas and support ourselves.

We may not have it all together, but together we have it all. Bundle of ideas and concept are sitting as novels on our bookshelves /PCs only because we are not connecting with like-minds to share our dreams with. Someone somewhere might be feeling the way we feel and might be thinking the way we do. Let's meet.

WHERE DO WE GET STARTED?
Let us start by identifying ourselves here on Nairaland. We can start by simply sharing insight about our business(if you've started any)/area of business(es), role, other areas interested passion and hobby.

Also, let us know if you are permanently based in the city, you shuttle around cities or you are planning to move to the city.

... Then I'll start from myself:

Simply, I'm an Entrepreneur smiley
Founder at mybroadstreet.com (infact I dey find guest writer sef)
I shuttle between Abeokuta & Lagos but more attached to Abeokuta.

*I started with Plumbing&Fitting + retail of sanitary/building materials. (Still doing this)

*I tried fashion: leather slippers with my own label (though not functioning anymore, but I'll invest on it later)

*Technology gadget retail (I still do this, infact I met my supplier online)

Let me not bore you with the list, because it's long smiley

My area of business interest in the recent time is :

*AgroBusiness ( basic gardening knowledge taught in Pry.school )

*Printing ( ability to operate any technology machine with manuals)

*Interior design ( intermediate skill) .... Amongst other interest.

*Food bank ( NON PROFIT )

Though, I am always doing research and ready to have formal knowledge in all these areas of interest.
I've passion for art, sport and writing, which brought about my website, mybroadstreet.com where I share entrepreneurial and leadership experience.

We can do it all together. Let's start!

BusinessRe: Project Fast Fruit:Corporate Fruit Selling Business. by newacca: 6:23pm On Jul 27, 2014
Jcurtis: How does Guiness, coca cola, fast foods outlets and beverage makers make billions of naira daily world wide?

they do so buy selling packaged foods and drinks to gullible consumers, who dont really love their health.

how can you imitate these people to make money for yourself?

well here ARE some ideas on the topic:PROJECT FAST FRUITS-

1.make up your mind to set up a fruit business
2.target banks, corporate offices as your main customers
3.get a sweet sounding name for your fruit business
4.set up a beautiful shade, kiosk or stand around the targeted business
5.get a graphic designer to design your a befitting business card containing the services you render in addition to your address.
6.brand your stand with your choosen name e.g:JENNYS FRUIT CITY,MANDYS FRUITS ETC
7.get the appropraite equipments you need,e.g coolers, refrigerators, transparent containers with lead, hand glooves, knives, pet disposal cups and food plates etca juicer will also be nice
8.draw up your list of fruits you wish to promote to the bank workers and potential customers that come in and go out
9.learn as much as you can about these fruits, their chemical compositions, vitamins profile and benefits to health when consumed.get online and fill your head with knowlegde.
10.then use your knowledge to design a great handbills on your business.

Now before i go ahead, think about these questions and get answers to them if you can.you really need the answers to boost your determination if you wish to go into this PROJECT FAST FRUIT BUSINESS:

1.How many banks are in nigeria?
2.On average how many customers patronise a bank branch daily?
3.Of the banks staffs and daily customers how many of them have the opportunity of consuming fresh fruits or juices daily?
4.Of the banks staffs and daily customers, how of them buy packaged juice drinks daily?
5.If the bank workers and staffs are introduced to a service that can supply them healthy, ripe, refreshing and nourishing chilled fruits or juices daily for say N50 to N200 per serving will any of these potential customers sign up for such fast fruit service?after all they all sign up for instant food, drinks and consumables when at the office when presented with the chance.hence will they not sign up for things that can naturally improve their productivity?what about ATM users who que up to use the machines?will they be interested in my fruit biz if the waiting game is on?

6.if you supply fresh juice drinks, lemode and all will you get customers?
7.do you know a fruit seller who has closed shop over the years due to poor sale?

well i dont know any.i gave my step mom a piece of advice on starting a fruit selling business way back in 2007,and till date she is still in the biz.infact, its this biz that sustains the family well till tomorrow.

Now,may be the time for sharp nigerians to start thinking of offering special services that directly compete with Fast food outlets and beverage makers,by stting up corporate FAST FRUITS N JUICE OUTLET around business districts. Banks are everywhere.schools are everywhere.churches are also everywhere.all you need to do,is make available fruits that people really need for good health in a matured and packaged manner to these businesses and watch what happens.

yea,let me admit something here.NEVER have i eatten a strawberry fruit, grapefruits and those cools fruits we see on foreign tv.and there are so many people like me in this country who havent either.my point is that,if the regular man on the streets wishes he has access to certain kinds of fruits, does the workers whose productivity needs to be sustained and who stress levels daily has to be reduced not be interested if i approach him to offer in my special business of selling fruits exclusively to him?

like i said in my post of yesterday, fruits are the only things workers in nigeria can or dont have access to buying at their work plACE.
WE BUY CLOTHS
JEWERIES
FOOD,processed and natural
SNACKS
SHOES
COSMETICS
MEDICINES
CLOTHING ACCESSORIES ETC at work place
because somebody supplies it to our offices weekly.
But most times, no one supplies us what we really need to stay healthy AND productive even during our lunch break:
1.COOL CHILLED FRUITS like pine apples, apples, oranges, strawberries, watermelons etc
2.COCONUT MILK AND CHIPS
3.HOME MADE YOGHURTS
4.POPCORN
5.FRESH FRUIT JUICES.

OF course i am sure.99% of our offices dont have someone providing these services.but if these services ,(from corporate fruit sellers)can improve their workers productiveity will they be interested in it?COMPANIES ARE EVERYWHERE!

what do you think.please share your thoughts on this.more on this post later.bye for now.
thanks
It's a good idea and one of the unsaturated areas of business in this part of the world. But I must tell you, if one wants to make a huge and sustainable profit in this kind of business, you should be ready to be able to raise sufficient fund. It's capital intensive, if you want to depend largely on it.

On the other hand, if you are looking at starting in a very small way and growing organically, you may consider starting from home. If you have a very clean place and spacious kitchen. This is to cut some start-up cost like rent and other bills. U can test ur business by giving sample at a relative or friend's event or even ur own birthday.

I've the intention of taking this route, and I will start a thread when I begin all processes. From my research to finding equipment to first client ( God willing)
So,help me God. Amin!

Rubbish!

I don vex...

I wan propose to Mzmariah and she is free to go on with her Catholic faith. The kids can make their decisions when they come of age and no one will force them.
And I tell you, this is what happens when we adopt these foreign religions and abandon our traditional belief.
Before the presence of the colonial masters and Arabs, we have our way of worship and we have our tradition. The same able God ( Olorun, olodumare,Chineke, orisaoke,Oluorun) that we've all known before their arrival is what they brought again in different style and version.

They made us believe our ways were wrong, now see their ways. sad

TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 5 by newacca:
LyfeJennings: Travel History
Length of proposed stay in Canada
Purpose of visit
Your current employment situation
Your personal assets and financial status

Those are the reasons
Sorry for the delay. I suggest you should have come up with a convincing letter of intent to back your application up. The letter you uploaded in my own opinion looks like you are listing the documents that qualify you for visa rather than proofing how this document will be useful for your study trip.

Also,I feel the concluding part of your letter 'shows' a bit of desperation like you are really begging for it. It's cool to plead with the VO, but you should be diplomatic.
For instance you can simply conclude it like: My life's purpose statement is learning and giving it back to the society. I would be grateful if you could support me in my mission by granting me a visa to study in Canada, where I believe I could get the best education in the world.
Yours sincerely faithfully

I also think your SOP is too lengthy. It won't be a surprise to find the VO not reading it at all.

stpat1: I tell you, its a nice idea. There is this lady that has a small set up within a big bar in ph. She servers fresh juice that takes just minutes to wrap up. It costs between #400 - #800 per glass (depending on the fruit combo). Its a conventional bar so they serve different grilled foods such as meat, fish and large pork.

Its a good idea but you must ensure that it is cited in a decent vicinity.

I have been slowed down a bit, owing the YouWIn biz plan competition, but I didn't make the final stage of the competition. My top biz idea to launch is the barbershop, but since I cannot raise the fund at the moment, I have to shelf it and look elsewhere. Maybe it's time I get busy with this idea now.
