People say that Ibn Taymiyah was not one of Ahl al-Sunnah wa’l-Jamaa’ah, and that he was misled and misled others, and that this is the view of Ibn Hajar and others. Is what they say true or not?

Personally I think the attention we are giving these deviants in this forum is too much.

Islam is very wide, in fact it encompasses all our lives, we shouldn't let these deviants who have lost hope in salvation derail us from teaching ourselves the pristine Islam.

Shaykh Muhammad Naasiruddin al-Albaani Rahimahullah:

Shaikh Abu Islaam Saalih Taahaa said, “Shaikh al-Albaani, may Allaah have mercy on him, used to teach us to be precise for appointments. An example of that is when I would invite him to visit me or if I accompanied him to an invite, he, may Allaah have mercy on him, would not turn up late or early for the set engagement.

Once I invited him over at 1 pm and he arrived in his car before that by a quarter of an hour, and remained seated in it and did not get out until the time was due … I was not aware of the Shaikh’s presence, it was the people who accompanied him who told me about that [later]. When I asked the Shaikh about that, he said, ‘Because before the [set] time you’re busy preparing for the guest’s arrival at [that] specified time … if we were to come in before it, we’d divert you from your preparation for your guests.’

So may Allaah have mercy on our Shaikh, how precise his understanding was! And how keen he was to act upon the Sunnah of Allaah’s Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم.

And when he, may Allaah have mercy on him, was invited to a place he would not take anyone with him unless the host had permitted him to. One time I invited him saying, ‘Our Shaikh! I invite you to lunch with me tomorrow,’ and by that I meant him and his wife, Umm al-Fadl. The next day he came alone so I said to him, ‘Where is Umm al-Fadl?’ So he replied, ‘You didn’t mention to me that I should bring Umm al-Fadl with me. And we stick to being precise in what is said.’”

Preamble

At a meeting of some like minded Muslim brothers, including yours sincerely, in Bodija, Ibadan, last Sunday (April 3, 2016), Alhaji Ishaq Kunle Sanni, the Chairman of Oyo State Muslim Community, sought permission to leave for another meeting scheduled for about the same time.

That other meeting was about the permanent site of Islamic Vacation Course (IVC) Camp (Southern Nigeria Chapter) of Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN).

The latter meeting quickly reminded me of the memorable month of April in relation to the establishment of MSSN in 1954. That was 62 years ago.

Looking back at the cultivation of land, planting and germination of the tree of that formidable society one cannot but reflect deeply on the above quoted verse of the Qur’an with faithful appreciation.

MSSN and NSCIA

Talking about Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) today may be incomplete without reference to the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN).

The two bodies are like Siamese trees of gargantuan nature with sprouting foliage and a formidable stem. Just as it is almost impossible to pluck the fruits of a tree without any recourse to the stem of the tree that carries those fruits so it is to play a significant role in NSCIA without having passed through the MSSN.

The one is like a wonderful edifice built on the solid foundation of the other. Though the founders of MSSN were not initial members of that youth society, the role played by each of them in nurturing its tree of progress to fruition cannot be quantified.

The almond tree

The similitude of MSSN is like that of the almond tree. For those who know it, almond tree is splendid to behold. It is magnificent in appearance just as it is environmentally grandiose. But much more than all these, it is highly curative in substance and almost indispensable in essence. No soil, whether in the forest or in the savannah or even in the desert, is repugnant to this great tree for dwelling. Wherever it is found, almond tree creates a serene environment and serves as a protective umbrella for other living organisms around. It is one unique tree that wears the crown of a king among trees and bears the scepter of a generalissimo among tropical plants.

Parable

The summarised analysis here is not much of almond tree per se but rather about the parable which its existence seeks to interpret. That parable is of the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN) which is like the almond tree. The Society was planted like a mustard seed on April 18, 1954 and gradually germinated into an enlivening plant with no irrelevant part.

Most Nigerian Muslims of the current generation may not easily recall how MSSN came into existence 62 years ago either because they were not part of the struggle that brought it to bear or because the struggle has now taken a different form which they are unable to relate to the past. Perhaps that is why they can now afford to take it for granted.

A memorable revolution

MSSN is both a spiritual and a social revolution which quietly crept into the Nigerian society at the very right time that a revolution was direly in need for Muslim youths. If Islam enjoys a hitherto denied official recognition in Nigeria today, it is mostly due to that miraculous revolution.

It all started like a dream in April 1954 when a student of Methodist Boys High School (MBHS) Lagos, Tajudeen Aromasodu, now of blessed memory, in a clairvoyance muted a unique idea. He proposed an association of all Muslim students in Nigeria starting with Lagos secondary schools. His intention was to create a forum of unity through a common identity for Nigerian Muslim youths of secondary school age. Such a forum was to enable them to agitate for their rights and defend those rights for their common interest.

Aromasodu’s idea had emanated from a journal of the Muslim Students Association of Burma (Myanmar) which he accidentally came across. He read the constitution of that association in the journal and became fascinated by it. That was at a time when Muslim school pupils could hardly pass through secondary schools in Southern Nigeria without getting forcefully converted into adherents of another religion.

Muslim children seeking Western education in those days were seen as trespassers or usurpers despite paying the demanded fees. Besides denying Muslim pupils their rights to worship according to their belief, the Christian missionaries who owned most schools in those days used the schools as an instrument of forceful conversion. Thus, most of the Muslim boys and girls who attended Christian missionary schools either ended up becoming Christians or were forced to drop out of schools if they rejected conversion.

The Nucleus Team

Aromasodu’s focus at that time was probably not beyond Lagos which was then Nigeria’s federal capital and the seat of the colonial rulers. He quickly contacted a few other Muslim students of like minds in Lagos and, together, they decided to invite two delegates from each of the then seven most prominent schools in Lagos. Thus, fourteen of such students (boys and girls) formed the pioneer membership of what was destined to become a proverbial almond tree of formidable nature.

The seven schools were Kings College, Lagos; Queens College, Yaba; Methodist Boys High School, Lagos; CMS Grammar School, Bariga; Ahmadiyya College (now Anwarul Islam Model College), Agege; Methodist Girls High School, Yaba and Baptist Academy, Obanikoro.

That nucleus body held its inaugural meeting at Ansar-ud-Deen Primary School, Alakoro, Lagos, on April 18, 1954. It was at that meeting that a proposal which had earlier been sent out to the mentioned schools was formally adopted. And, a resolution was taken to draft the constitution of the Society which was ratified thereafter.

First Executive Body

With the constitution in place, some members of the first executive body were elected into office. Dr. Abdul Lateef Adegbite of King’s College was unanimously elected as President while Shuaib Oloritu also of Kings College and Saidat Anibaba (now Professor (Mrs.) Mabadaje (rtd) then of Queens College became first and second Vice Presidents respectively.

Dr. Adegbite’s election was quite timely and coincidental because he was not just the Chairman of the Library and Debating Society of Lagos secondary schools, at that time, which made him a first among equals, he too had been planning a common forum for Muslim students.

Some other officers were also elected and given responsibilities. Duties were delegated with trust and virtually everybody lived up to the trust.

What would have been a major hindrance to the realisation of that dream was lack of funds. But nothing fails at the dream level if it has the hands of Allah in it.

With strong determination and commitment, the young boys and girls levied themselves one shilling each on a monthly basis, which they contributed with dedication from their stipends. Besides, each of them bore the cost of transportation when assigned to a duty outside the immediate environment.

Conferences

If the first national conference of the Society, held in Lagos in 1954, drew the attention of many people to it and attracted many new members, that of 1956 held in Ijebu-Ode was a watershed.

It was at that conference that the Society can be said to have become a real national body. Some members, especially of northern origin, who later became prominent in that body joined in 1956.

These included the late Shehu Musa of Niger State who later became Secretary to the Federal Government, Adamu Ciroma who became the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Jubril Aminu who became the Secretary of Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) and later Minister of Education and Petroleum; Yerima Abdullah and a host of others.

It was about the same year that some other Lagos students like Lateefat Oyekan (now Alhaja Lateefah Okunnu (a former Deputy Governor of Lagos State) joined the Society and boosted its growth with special indefatigable leap.

At this time, Islam was not yet known to have significantly reached what is now called South East or South-South of Nigeria.

The third conference was held in Ilesha in 1957. It was hosted by one Alhaji M.A Smith, a prominent businessman with substantial financial wherewithal.

The fourth and fifth conferences were held in Ibadan and Abeokuta in 1958 and 1959 respectively. In all those places, the conscious attention of local Muslims was drawn to Islam and some of them gladly encouraged their children to join the newly formed society of Muslim youths.

The turn of events

In 1957, Abdul-Lateef Adegbite, the first President of the Society, had completed his secondary school education at Kings College and he wanted to vacate the office for someone else but other brothers would not hear of it. They persuaded him to continue with the leadership showing appreciation for his leadership ability.

However, providence set in to play a role in the life of Abdul-Lateef and that of MSSN simultaneously. He got a job as a researcher at the Historical Research Scheme in Ibadan in which he was engaged while awaiting admission to read English in UCI.

At the time, Adegbite experienced a repeat of fortuitous providence working for him against his wish. He did not succeed in gaining admission into the University College but that was a blessing in disguise for MSSN. If he had been admitted as he wished, he would have had less time for the Society in its infancy and he would not have become a lawyer that he happily became later. He also would have studied English at UCI without any scholarship. His patience and faith paid off as he later got admission into the University of Southampton where he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Law before proceeding to the University of London for his Master’s and Ph.D. degrees on scholarship.

Gender Dichotomy

Realising the implications of talking any of the sisters into marriage within the Society, the President himself avoided any act that could set a bad precedent for others.

When it was time for him to choose a marital partner, he made sure that his wife to be (Miss Taibat Yetunde Carew, now of blessed memory) was not a member of the Society. Although he met her at an MSSN forum, the latter merely escorted her friend to that forum.

When he returned into the country in 1965 with a Ph. D degree, Dr. Adegbite was surprised at the growth rate of MSSN across the country. All the Muslim secondary school pupils had fully become members and most of the foundation members had either graduated from higher institutions or about to graduate.

He, therefore, thought of a higher pedestal for the Society’s alumni to operate spiritually. Fortunately, he was appointed Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in the Western State in 1967 a position that put him in very good stead.

He was therefore, able to strengthen the MSSN and encourage fellow alumni to join hands in floating another Muslim Society that would be meant for only adults as members.

Today, most of the pioneer members of MSSN are great men and women in various public and private sectors. The current Sultan and President-General of Nigerian Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs, His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, some Emirs, Ministers, Governors, Vice Chancellors, Professors and, even the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua were members of that great Society.

Office accommodation problem

It, however, became disturbing that despite the greatness of this Society and its alumni, there was no permanent office that could be called its national headquarters even by the time its 50th anniversary was celebrated in 2004.

An attempt was once made to site such office in Ilorin being the midway between the North and the South. But that attempt was unsuccessful. It was only when the elders decided to pay attention to the issue of headquarters, recently, that a plot of land was secured for office in Abuja on which work is yet to commence even 62 years after the establishment of MSSN.

Dr. Abdul-Lateef Adegbite’s appointment as Commissioner also helped tremendously in bridging the religious gap between the north and the south, especially in respect of the formation of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) in which he was to play a major role as Secretary-General later in life. As far as Islam is concerned, his was a footprint on the sands of life. Let those who are yearning for a similar footprint be as dedicated to Islam as Dr. Adegbite.

A leadership training ground

Apart from serving as a unifier of Muslim youths in Nigeria, MSSN also started as a potent leadership training ground for Muslim men and women of the future. That many brothers and sisters who passed through the Society are occupying various prominent positions including gubernatorial, ministerial, top managerial and core professional in Nigeria today is an evidence of that assertion. At least not less than five Heads of State or Presidents of Nigeria have been produced by the Association. However, the tempo of leadership agility in of the past seems to have waned tremendously.

Thus, due to the fact that most students of nowadays are immature, some experienced hands at the helm of affairs in the Society continue to hold sway as principal officers thereby hindering the upcoming ones from gaining the necessary leadership and experience that should normally prepare them for the future.

The implication of this is that leadership is no longer by training or experience but by mere incidental assumption. This in itself is a great disadvantage to the growth and development of MSSN as well as a cause of various divisions leading to the emergence of splinter groups. If this Society must progress as expected, a return to the original system that gave it a profitable vibrancy in the past should be a sine qua non.

Ibn Hajar al-Haytami [one of the greatest Shaafa’i fuqaha’, who died in 974 AH and who is someone other than Ibn Hajar al-‘Asqallaani, the author of Fath al-Baari , who died in 852 AH] criticized the two Shaykhs of Islam, Ibn Taymiyah and his student Ibn al-Qayyim, a great deal and accused them of describing Allaah in physical terms, likening Him to His creation, and other abhorrent beliefs. But he was refuted by many, who explained the falseness of what he said and demonstrated that the two imams were innocent of any belief that goes against the Qur’aan and Sunnah. One of these scholars was:

4 – al-Mulla ‘Ali Qaari (may Allaah have mercy on him), who said, after quoting Ibn Hajar’s accusations against them and his criticism of their ‘aqeedah:

I say: Allaah protected them – i.e., Ibn al-Qayyim and his Shaykh Ibn Taymiyah – from this abhorrent accusation.

The one who studies Sharh Manaazil al-Saa’ireen by Nadeem al-Baari al-Shaykh ‘Abd-Allaah al-Ansaari, who is the Shaykh of Islam according to the Sufis, will clearly see that they were among Ahl al-Sunnah wa’l-Jamaa’ah and are indeed among the awliya’ (close friends of Allaah) of this ummah. Among what he said in the book mentioned was the following:

“These words of Shaykh al-Islam highlight his position as a prominent scholar of Ahl al-Sunnah, and his status among scholars, and it demonstrates that he is innocent of what his Jahami enemies accused him of, that he likened Allaah to His creation, as they usually accused the scholars of hadeeth and Sunnah, just as the Raafidis accuse them of being Naasibis, and the Naasibis accuse them of being Raafidis,, and the Mu’tazilah accuse them of being anthropomorphists. That is a legacy of the enemies of the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) who accused him and his companions of having invented a new religion. And this is a legacy of the scholars of hadeeth and Sunnah from their Prophet, that the people of falsehood give them offensive labels.

May Allaah sanctify the soul of al-Shaafa’i, who said when he was accused of being a Raafidi:

If being a Raafidi means loving the family of Muhammad, then let the two races (of mankind and jinn) bear witness that I am a Raafidi.

May Allaah be pleased with our Shaykh Abu’l-‘Abbaas ibn Taymiyah when he said:
If being a Naasibi means loving the family of Muhammad, then let the two races (of mankind and jinn) bear witness that I am a Naasibi.

May Allaah forgive the third – Ibn al-Qayyim – when he said:

If being an anthropomorphist means affirming the divine attributes and regarding them as being above the interpretation of a liar,

Then praise be to Allaah, I am an anthropomorphist; bring your witnesses.”

Mirqaah al-Mafaateeh by al-Mulla ‘Ali Qaari (8/146, 147).

al-Haafiz Jalaal al-Deen al-Suyooti (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

Ibn Taymiyah, the Shaykh, the imam, the ‘allaamah (great scholar), the hafiz, the critic, the faqeeh, the mujtahid, the brilliant mufassir, the Shaykh of Islam, the leader of ascetics, the unrivalled in our time, Taqiy al-Deen Abu’l-Abbaas Ahmad al-Mufti Shihaab al-Deen ‘Abd al-Haleem, the son of the imam and mujtahid Shaykh al-Islam Majd al-Deen ‘Abd al-Salaam ibn ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Abi’l-Qaasim al-Haraani.

One of the prominent figures, he was born in Rabee’ al-Awwal 661 AH, and he learned from Ibn Abi’l-Yasar, Ibn ‘Abd al-Daa’im, and some others.

He took an interest in hadeeth, and narrated and selected (sound ahaadeeth); he excelled in the study of narrators’ biographies, defects in ahaadeeth, fiqh, the sciences of Islam, ‘ilm al-kalaam and other fields.
He was a man of vast learning, one of the few brilliant scholars, ascetics and unique individuals. He wrote three hundred books, and he was tested and persecuted many times.

He died in the latter part of Dhu’l-Qa’dah 628 AH.

al-Haafiz ‘Imaad al-Deen al-Waasiti (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

By Allaah, there was never seen under the canopy of heaven anyone like your Shaykh Ibn Taymiyah in knowledge, righteous deeds, attitude, manner, adherence to the Sunnah, generosity, forbearance and carrying out duties to Allaah when His sacred limits were transgressed; he was the most sincere of people, the most sound in knowledge, the most effective, the most serious in supporting the truth, the most generous, the most perfect in following the Sunnah of Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).

We have never seen anyone in our own time who demonstrates the example of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and his Sunnahs in word and deed like this man; a sound heart will bear witness that this is following the Sunnah in the true sense of the word.

Imam al-Dhahabi (may Allaah have mercy on him) said, listing his Shaykhs:

He is our Shaykh, the Shaykh of Islam, unrivalled in our time in terms of knowledge, courage, intelligence, spiritual enlightenment, generosity, sincerity towards the ummah, enjoining what is good and forbidding what is evil, and learning hadeeth – he put a great deal of effort into seeking it and writing it down, and he examined the different categories of narrators and acquired knowledge that no one else acquired.

He excelled in Qur’aanic commentary (tafseer) and delved deeply into its subtle meanings. He derived meanings from it that no one else managed to do before him. He also excelled in hadeeth and in the memorization thereof; very few have memorized as much hadeeth as he memorized. He attributed ahaadeeth to their proper sources and narrators, and he was able to quote readily whatever he needed to establish proof. He surpassed all people in knowledge of fiqh and the views of different madhhabs, and the fatwas of the Sahaabah and Taabi’een, so much so that when he issued a fatwa he did not adhere to the view of a madhhab, rather he based his fatwa on whichever view was supported by the stronger evidence. He excelled in knowledge of Arabic language, and studied issues on the basis of rationality and reason. He studied the views of the philosophers and refuted their arguments and pointed out their mistakes and warned against them. He supported the Sunnah with the strongest evidence and proofs. He was harmed for the sake of Allaah by his opponents and persecuted for his support of the pure Sunnah, until Allaah caused him to prevail and caused the pious to unite in loving him and praying for him, and suppressed his enemies and guided men of other groups and sects through him. Allaah made kings and commanders inclined to follow him and obey him, and he revived Syria – and indeed Islam – through his efforts, when it was almost defeated, by urging the rulers to resist the Tatars, when people were harbouring doubts about Allaah and the believers were tried and shaken with a mighty shaking (cf. al-Ahzaab 33:10-11), and hypocrisy grew strong.

His good qualities are many, and he is too great for a man like me to talk about his life. If I were to swear an oath between the Corner and the Maqaam I would swear that I have never seen anyone like him, and that he has never seen anyone like himself.

Once the Sheikh was up on the ladder to get some books from the top shelf. While looking out, he began to read a book for some p and he ended up standing on the ladder for hours till he finished that book. However, his reading and research did not neglect him from his religious obligations like offering prayer five times a day.

After being regularly invited to give lectures in prestigious Islamic universities and having several of his works published, the Sheikh was invited to teach Hadith at the Islamic University of Madina. The Sheikh called people to worship Allah alone and spared no efforts to revive the Prophetýs Sunnah.

The Sheikh did face several hardships and lived in several countries like Syria, the UAE, Lebanon and Jordan.

Great scholars of our time have praised him extensively. The late Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia Sheikh Muhammad Ibn Ibraheem Aal Sheikh said, And he is the upholder of the Sunnah, a supporter of the truth and in opposition to the people of falsehood.

The late former Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz Bin Baz said, I have not seen anyone under the surface of the sky with more knowledge of Hadith in our current times than the likes of the great scholar, Muhammad Nasir-ud-Deen Al-Albani.

Sheikh Bin Baz, in fact, was of the opinion that Al-Albani was the Mujaddid of our era. All great scholars including Sheikh Uthaymeen have praised him extensively.

After a life full of seeking knowledge and propagating Islam, the reviver of Sunnah, Sheikh Al-Albani died in 1420 AH/1999 CE when he was 87.

He left his will advising his relatives not to wail over his death and hurry his burial. He donated his entire library that included valuable manuscripts to the library of the Islamic University of Madina because of his fond memories of the years he spent teaching there.

EVERY hundred years Allah sends someone in this Ummah to revive His religion. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: ýIndeed Allah raises up from this ummah at the beginning of every century someone who will revive it for them (i.e. a mujaddid ).ý
Among several exemplary scholars Islamic history has seen, there have always been some scholars who have strode extra miles to revive Islam. Scholars like Ibn Taimiyyah and Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahab are two such examples.

In more recent times scholars like Sheikh Abdul Aziz Bin Baz, Muhammad Bin Al-Uthaymeen and Sheikh Badi-ud-deen Shah As-Sindi have all exerted great efforts for the cause of Islam, and indeed Allah aided them and brought glory and success to Islam through them.

However, there is one name that really stands out. His contribution to Islam, especially in the science of Hadith, is second to none in our times. Born and raised in Shkodra, the then capital of Albania, Muhammad Nasriddeen Al-Albani, started his life without knowing that one day he would become one of the leading scholars 20th century has seen.

His family was poor. His father, Nuh Najati Al-Albani, was a leading scholar in Hanafi Fiqh. Since his countryýs government was slowly becoming more and more western, he left with his family and went to Damascus, where Nasiruddeen Al-Albani began his studies. It wasn't long before he finished learning the Quýran, the Arabic language and Fiqh.

Sheikh Albani also learnt repairing watches and clocks from his father. It wasnýt long before he mastered the trade.
He began specializing in the field of Hadith and its related sciences by the tender age of 20 and his first assignment was to start transcribing Hafiz Al-Iraqiýs great piece ýAl-Mughnee ýan-Hamlil-Asfar fil-Asfar fee Takhrej maa fil-lhyaa min Al-Akhbarý. It was here where his fascination into the science of Hadith intensified and even though his father discouraged him, Al-Albaniýs love for Hadith just kept growing.

The Sheikh would spend much of his time, sometimes more than 12 hours a day, in Damascusýs Az-Zahiriyah library. He would be so engrossed in research that he would have no time for food. As weeks and months flew by, the Sheikh was given his own room and a set of keys to the library to pursue his study.

al-Albani: When one speaks with ignorant people, one doesn’t say that the Hadith is odd (shadh) or deficient (ma’lul) since they do not understand that. Instead say directly that it is weak. (Pg. 248)

OUR PHONES ......................

One of the hardest task in this 21st century is for the youths to spend 30 mins without "touching" their phones!

Almost everyone is now a phone addict.

It's the last thing you touch before you sleep at night.

It's the first thing you touch when you wake up at dawn

Some even put earpiece on their ears overnight.

Some still wake at night to download films but they can't wake up for tahajud.

Some are always "online" chatting.

As early as 6am they are online and they remain online till midnight.

They have thousands of friends online whom they chat with but they don't relate with their families at home.

They isolate themselves in their rooms.

Some argue till midnight about aqeedah issues, yet by fajr time, he is sleeping and snoring.

Immediately after the tasleem in salat, you see people pressing their phones again, no time for adhkaar!

As if all their past and future sins have already been forgiven!

When accidents happen, instead of saving lives, you see people snapping the victims with their phones.

When a house is burning, instead of quenching it, you see people snapping so as to be the first to upload it on social network.

When a person loses a loved one, instead of thinking about the funeral issues, the first thing the person does is to upload the news on social network perhaps to get
comments!

We are so addicted to phones, we even chat when we are on motorcycles.

Some still chat in the exam halls.

Some play games with their phones in the masjid.

# Subhanallah
Some watch films in the masjid.
What a fitnah befalling the Ummah.

Along the road, some keep pressing their phones, until perhaps they narrowly dodge an accident or until a banana peel slips them.

Even when we have guests, we still concentrate on our phones than our guest.

Some ignore their spouses because they are chatting with "mere friends" on Facebook!

Some use Suratul Asr to hasten their salat because of their phones, not knowing that Suratul Asr is talking about spending time in righteous deeds.

Many are those whose phones have made them "hypocrites". Many are those whose phones are leading them to hellfire
Because of your phone, you are the last person to come to Juma'ah and you are always the first
person to leave!

Allah said, 'Closer and closer to mankind comes their judgement, yet they don't take heed, and they turn away' (Sura Al-Anbiyaa vs 1)

Sheik Uthaymeen rahimahuLlah said, Whoever does not spend his time for the sake of Allah, what is better for him is DEATH!

Ibn Mas’ud رضي الله ﺗﻌﺎﻟﯽٰعنه reported:

The Messenger of Allah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ said:

O young men, if you are able to support a wife, then get married. Verily, it restrains the eyes and protects the private parts, but whoever is not able to do so then he has the duty to fast because indeed it is a means of control.

Forbidding the Evil is from Emaan (faith):

"O you who believe! Take care of your ownselves; no harm can come to you from those who are in error if you follow the right guidance"
[Qur'an, Al-Maa'idah, 105]

On the authority of Abu Sa'eed al-Khudree رضي الله ﺗﻌﺎﻟﯽٰعنه who said : I heard the Messenger of Allah ﺻﻠﯽ الله ﺗﻌﺎﻟﯽٰ ﻋﻠﯿﮧ ﻭﺍٓﻟﮧ ﻭﺳﻠﻢ say :

Whosoever of you sees an evil, let him change it with his hand; and if he is not able to do so, then [let him change it] with his tongue; and if he is not able to do so, then with his heart - and that is the weakest of faith.
[Muslim].

Ya ALLAH (سبحانه وتعالى) keep us steady fast in your Deen, guide us all and the muslim umm'ah

Da'wah ALLAH (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى)

There are many ahaadeeth which state that this is haraam, such as the hadeeth narrated from Safiyah bint Abi ‘Ubayd from one of the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), who narrated that he said: “Whoever goes to a soothsayer and asks him about something and believes him, his prayer will not be accepted for forty days.” (Narrated by Muslim in his
Saheeh ).

Qusaybah ibn al-Mukhaariq said: “I heard the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) say: ‘ Al-‘ayaafah, al-tiyarah and al-turuq [kinds of augury] are all part of
al-jabt [witchcraft or idolatry].’” This was narrated by Abu Dawood with a
saheeh isnaad . Abu Dawood said:
Al-‘ayaafah, al-khatt and al-turuq are all kinds of augury, whereby a bird is released and is watched to see whether it flies to the right or to the left. If it flies to the right it is taken as a good omen and if it flies to the left it is taken as a bad omen. Al-Jawhari said: al-jabt is a word which may be applied to idols, soothsayers, magicians, astrologers etc.
It was narrated that Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever seeks knowledge from the stars is seeking one of the branches of witchcraft…” Narrated by Abu Dawood with a saheeh isnaad .

It was narrated that Mu’aawiyah ibn al-Hakam said: “I said, ‘O Messenger of Allaah, I am still close to the time of Jaahiliyyah [i.e., I am new in Islam]. Allaah has brought Islam to us, but there are among us men who go to soothsayers (fortune tellers).’ He said, ‘Do not go to them.’ I said, ‘And there are men among us who practise augury [watch birds for omens].’ He said, ‘That is something which they make up. Do not believe them.’” (Narrated by Muslim).

It was narrated from Abu Mas’ood al-Badri that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) forbade the price of a dog, the fee of a prostitute and the payment of a soothsayer. (Narrated by al-Bukhaari and Muslim).

The scholars of the Standing Committee were asked:

What is the definition of the evil eye? Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“And from the evil of the envier when he envies.” [113:5]

Is the hadeeth (narration) of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saheeh (authentic) in which it says that “One third of those who are in the grave are there because of the evil eye”? If a person thinks that someone is envying him, what should the Muslim do and say? If the person who put the evil eye on someone washes himself, will the water he used bring healing to his victim? And should he drink the water or wash himself with it?

They replied:

The Arabic word al-‘ayn (translated as the evil eye) refers to when a person harms another with his eye. It starts when the person likes a thing, then his evil feelings affect it, by means of his repeated looking at the object of his jealousy. Allah commanded His prophet, Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), to seek refuge with Him from the envier, as He said (interpretation of the meaning):

“And from the evil of the envier when he envies.” [113:5]

Everyone who puts the evil eye on another is envious, but not every envier puts the evil eye on another. The word hasid (envier) is more general in meaning than the word ‘ain (one who puts the evil eye on another), so seeking refuge with Allah from the one who envies includes seeking refuge with Him from the one who puts the evil eye on another. The evil eye is like an arrow which comes from the soul of the one who envies and the one who puts the evil eye on another towards the one who is envied and on whom the evil eye is put; sometimes it hits him and sometimes it misses. If the target is exposed and unprotected, it will affect him, but if the target is cautious and armed, the arrow will have no effect and may even come back on the one who launched it. How To Correctly Avoid Evil Eye.!!

All praises & thanks are be to ALLAH (سبحانه وتعالى). The Lord of the Aa'lameen.

As'Salaamu Alaikum Warahmatullaahi Wabarakaatuh,

My respected brothers & sisters fiddeen;

Say “Barak Allaahu ‘Alayk” (بارك الله لك أو عليك) which means “May Allah’s blessing be upon you” to avoid evil eye, not “Maa Shaa’ Allah” (ما شاء الله) which means “What ALLAH (سبحانه وتعالى) wills.”

Evidence:

Once a man praised another man for having very beautiful skin and claimed he had never even seen a virgin with such beautiful skin.

The man became ill on the spot, and upon hearing about this, the Prophet ‎صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ asked:

“Why did you not say, May ALLAH (سبحانه وتعالى) bless you?”
[Muwatta of Imam Malik (No. 1972, 1973) and it is Sahih]

Evidence No. 2:

The Prophet ‎صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ said:

When one of you sees in a person something which amazes him, then let him supplicate (to ALLAH (سبحانه وتعالى)) to bless him.”
[Jami’ Mu‘mar (No. 19766) and it is Sahih]

Evidence against Maa Shaa’ Allah:

The Prophet ‎صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ is reported to have said:

“Whoever sees something that amazes him, let him say: “Maa shaa’ Allah, Laa Quwwata illaa billaah” Hence, by doing so that person won’t be affected by the evil eye.”

[Ibn Sunni in "Amal yaum wal-lail" (207) and Shaikh Albaanee graded its chain as "Dha'eef Jiddan" (extremely weak) in Takhreej al-Kalim al-Tayyib]

If you think you have given someone evil eye, say “Allaahumma baarik ‘alaih” (اللهم بارك عليه) which means "O' ALLAH (سبحانه وتعالى) send your blessings upon him."
[Paraphrase of Ibn al-Qayyim’s Zaad al-Ma'aad (v. 4, p. 157-158)]

And ALLAH (سبحانه وتعالى) knows best.

May ALLAH (سبحانه وتعالى) make things easy to understand His sahih deen & sahih sunnah ‎صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ & may He keep us among with guided ummah.
