The woman was ordered to pay $1.6 million in restitution and serve 40 months in prison after defrauding a Houston medical student, prosecutors said.
She was a 27-year-old medical student in 2007, suffering from depression and going through hard times, when a self-proclaimed spiritual counselor approached her at a mall in Houston with the promise of supernatural help. The student, looking for an answer, agreed to a psychic reading.

The purported psychic said her name was Jacklyn Miller and told the student that her mental problems stemmed from a curse that had killed her mother.

The student met with the psychic, whose real name is Sherry Tina Uwanawich, several times a week and, for years, paid large sums of money for meditation materials, including crystals and candles, in order to lift the curse and protect her family.

Over a decade later, the psychic was charged with three counts of wire fraud, one of which she pleaded guilty to in June as part of an agreement with prosecutors.

Some hours earlier on October 11, 2015, he and his brother, Christopher, were confronted by three family members and six other parishioners in the sanctuary of Word of Life Church in Oneida County. Their so-called "counseling session" grew more violent and deadly over the course of 14 hours.

The boy's half-sister, Sarah Ferguson, was convicted of second-degree murder for her role in the attack. In New York's appellate court in Rochester on Wednesday, she argued her conviction and 25-year sentence are too harsh.

"As soon as she saw the blood, she stopped the whipping, so I would argue the whipping was a reckless act (not intentional)," said her attorney, Peter DiGiorgio.

Former church members and non-profit experts say the purchase of the lake home—at the same time church land was sold for the same price—raises red flags.

"The appearance of impropriety is very bad," said attorney Jennifer Urban, who teaches the Nonprofit Law Clinic at the University of St. Thomas and is the founder of the law firm Legal for Good in St. Louis Park.
When 5 INVESTIGATES first contacted Bill Predovich to request an interview, the pastor insisted the real estate transactions were done appropriately.

"Nothing is secretive about what we're doing," Predovich said.

The Predoviches later deeded their new 10-acre lake front property, which includes a swimming pool and sand volleyball court, to Resurrection Life Ministries. The 4,200 sq. ft. house is listed as a "church residence", according to public records.

The Rashtriya Kamdhenu Aayog is working with the Ministry of AYUSH to produce panchgavya drug using [/b]cow urine and dung[b] that it says will help develop “highly intellectual” children.

The commission has claimed that pregnant women may be able to give birth to “smart, highly intellectual and healthy children” if they consume the drug regularly.
[/b]The drug will be made using cow urine, dung, milk, ghee and curd,[b] the commission’s chairman Vallabhbhai Kathiria told ThePrint.

The Aayog was set up by the Narendra Modi government in February for the purpose of conservation and protection of cattle population in the country.

Kathiria, who is a former BJP MP from Gujarat, said that shastras and Ayurveda texts also vouch for panchgavya drug, which is a mixture of five cow products.

“Shastras and Ayurveda texts say that if pregnant women consume the drug, they may produce smart, highly intellectual and healthy children,” he said, adding that they have sought the AYUSH ministry’s help in producing the drug on a large scale.

He also said the AYUSH ministry and the newly-formed Ministry of Animal Husbandry will seek the cooperation of the MSME ministry in producing and marketing the drug.
Kathiria added that once they produce the drug on a large scale, they will appoint vaidyas (practitioners of Ayurvedic medicine) in villages so that they prescribe them to pregnant women.

The Amalapuram police on Tuesday arrested Venudhar Prasad, a member of an infamous 'rice pulling' gang, in connection with the suicide of doctor Ramakrishnam Raju and two of his family members. The doctor, his wife Lakshmi and son Krishna Sandeep had allegedly died by suicide at their residence in Amalapuram on August 30, due to severe financial problems. The couple have another son, who survived as he didn't reach home.

According to the police, Venudhar Prasad and his gang were found to have extorted Rs 5.5 crore from the doctor by luring him, and allegedly promised that he could double his wealth with the rice-pulling trick.

A rice-puller is a device commonly used by conmen, [/b]making people believe of its astounding magical properties[b] in amassing quick wealth. They claim the rice-puller to be an ancient artefact made of copper and iridium, possessing astounding capabilities which include drawing grains of rice towards it.
According to reports, the gang extorted Rs 5.5 crore in multiple installments from the doctor, who runs a multi-speciality hospital, on the promise of providing the rice-pulling device. The gang told the doctor that they had some coins and rice which [/b]have supernatural powers and were in great demand abroad.[b]

During their probe, the police discovered that the doctor had borrowed money from lenders at an interest rate as high as 10% to give money to the conmen. While the gang continued to extort him in the false hope of doubling his wealth, the doctor also faced pressure from the money lenders and fell into a debt trap.

The Amalapuram police, who presented the accused Venudhar Prasad before the media on Tuesday, also asked the public to not to fall in the trap of the rice-pulling and other gangs. The cops are on the lookout for the other three members of the fraud gang.
