Family / Re: Do You Think Intertribal Marriage Should Be Encouraged? by NigerianScholar: 9:10pm On Aug 24, 2017
OrdercityWeb

Thus is a very nice topic to discuss but I think you are mixing up intertribal and interracial marriage.
But all the same. Marying from the same culture is closer to inbreeding than marrying from a different culture. Because there is a lower option for selection in the gene pool. The only exception to not marrying from another tribe is if you have conflicting views on something major. But this is very rare

Most of everything you said rested on the point that 'cultural identity has to be preseved'. But whether there is intertribal marriage or not. This cultural identity would s vanish. How many yoruba people still believe in oduduwa, how many yoruba people prostrate or kneek down to greet their parents today. I dont know the origin of jollof rice. But its enjoyed all around the country same for suya/kilishi/boli. You said south east asians dont marry out of their culture this is very false. Many of them that migrate to other countries like usa have interracial kids

You also tried to support your claim with the bible. The reason God prevented marriage with another tribe is because they were viewed as heathens. That was a generalisation that wont work today via the merging of tribes. The only main issue I can see is with the kids having identity issues. But this isnt that big of a deal

You cant prevent inter-tribal marriage. The whole africaryan (black nd white mix from us) has been around for a while. And as more tribes mix. There wouldnt be any pure-blood. Everybody would be mixed. Culture isnt something parents teach. Its something you get from your environment. A yoruba couple living in igbo land will have to have igbo influences in their yoruba culture......

I can see people rent being mature with their discussions. They go to insults as a form of defense. I wont do that

Family / Re: Is Feminism Relevant In Nigeria Today? by NigerianScholar: 8:57pm On Aug 23, 2017
OrdercityWeb:
Feminism as defined by Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feminism)

"Feminism is a range of political movements, ideologies, and social movements that share a common goal: to define, establish, and achieve political, economic, personal, and social rights for women.[1][2] This includes seeking to establish educational and professional opportunities for women that are equal to such opportunities for men.

Feminist movements have campaigned and continue to campaign for women's rights, including the right to vote, to hold public office, to work, to earn fair wages or equal pay, to own property, to receive education, to enter contracts, to have equal rights within marriage, and to have maternity leave. Feminists have also worked to promote bodily autonomy and integrity, and to protect women and girls from rape, sexual harassment, and domestic violence.[3] Changes in dress and acceptable physical activity have often been part of feminist movements."

Now lets start with the question of "is the woman gender disadvantaged today?"
In our society today especially in Nigeria much preference is given to women today, even in our relationships its the girlfriend that enjoys the fringe benefits. In the wake of any disaster women and children are given preference, yet men have never complained and said this is "inequality".
Considering the definition as obtained from Wikipedia, lets critically look at this:
"to define, establish, and achieve political, economic, personal, and social rights for women"
In Nigeria today Women have social, political, economic, personal, and social rights. Women contest for political positions in Nigeria today, Women are head of coporations in Nigeria today.

"right to vote, to hold public office, to work, to earn fair wages or equal pay, to own property, to receive education, to enter contracts, to have equal rights within marriage, and to have maternity leave"
As earlier stated Women have the right to vote, and earn equal wages with their male counterparts, they own properties and have access to education. Is it realistic to have equal rights in marriage? Can there be 2 leaders at the same time?

"bodily autonomy and integrity, and to protect women and girls from rape, sexual harassment, and domestic violence"
Men also suffer rape and domestic violence so why is there a special movement for women on that. Only on the exceptions of religous sections of the country that restrict women's bodily autonomy. At that is an issue with religion not men. right?
.....
Thanks for reading to this point. I have not made any conclusions but i have only drawn realistic applications of feminism in Nigeria today.

I will like to know what you think. Is feminism relevant in Nigeria today? FACTS ONLY INTELLIGENT COMMENTS
With all the bouquet of intertwined problems with nigeria. Is this what we should be worried about

Education / Re: 5 Useful Mobile Apps For Students by NigerianScholar: 7:58pm On Jul 27, 2017
Instead of copying and pasting. You should have customised the post for a nigerian student
1. We dont have enough money for multiple devices or cloud storage. Advice investing in a usb drive instead
2. Good app. But it would have been better if its popular. But it isnt. A simple google search can help you. But tbh. Reading online books wont help a nigerian student seeking to pass. Everything needed is in the handouts or whatever material the lecturer gives. Ill recommend a picture to pdf converter
3. This is good for people without internet. That is if it doesnt require it. But a simple google search is better. Multiple sources. From regular people and dictionaries. This will help the student understand better by combining knowlege
4. I personally think using a calculator on a phone is a bad idea. With whatsapp/nairaland calling on my name. Just invest in an original casio calc
5. See 1
6. Not relevant. Handouts are still better. It might be a good time-filler if you have a lot of free time

I am just doing some nit picking

JARUSHUB:
Technological innovations have over time continually made life easier in many aspects of our everyday lives, and one of such ways is through the development of various mobile apps to help students in different aspects of their school life. Jumia Travel, the leading online travel agency, shares 5 useful mobile apps for students.

Dropbox

With the Dropbox app there is no need for students to fear losing their notes, projects or coursework anymore. Students can upload different files (like documents, photos, videos etc.) in the app’s cloud and access them online if they ever need them from any device, all that’s needed is an internet connection. The Dropbox apps also allows you easily share files without losing important data.

Scribd

This app is popularly referred to as the world’s biggest online library and rightly so, because it is a digital library and audiobook subscription service that helps students find millions of different documents and books useful for their studies. With the Scribd app, students can also create their own library with different notes, texts and books that they need and share them with friends or fellow course mates.

Dictionary.com

With how students sometimes get words mixed up, it is a marvel that more students don’t have at least one dictionary app on their mobile devices. Dictionary.com is a great dictionary app that makes it easy to find the definitions, synonyms and antonyms of words you are not sure about or don’t know of. As a bonus, the application also allows you to see the words people around you are searching for to help increase your knowledge pool.

RealCalc Scientific Calculator

This app is prefect for maths, advanced maths, business and engineering students because of its wide variety of features and functions that makes maths calculations much easier. With this app, you don’t need to bother about carrying a scientific calculator up and down, you can easily use the app on any of your mobile devices.

Google Drive

With Google Drive, students can take notes, draw diagrams, create spreadsheets, build presentations and save them all in the app’s cloud. The files saved are accessible from every mobile device as long as there is an Internet connection. Google Drive is basically a collection of ‘cloud based “Office” apps’ with capabilities for spreadsheets, documents, presentations, diagrams etc. The drive has surplus space – more than enough to meet the needs of an average student – however, if a students runs out of space he/she can pay for more.

SlideShare

This app is basically for viewing visual presentations of different topics and subjects that students might be interested in. The app revolves around viewing, sharing and saving these presentation files for offline access.

Your thinking is shallow. That students can still become anything he desire in this world even if that is the best he can do now. my first waec result is far poorer that and am doing my PhD presently.

Everything i said is true friend,
you cant sugarcoat it...the logic of "you can be anything you want to be if you really want it" is true. But you need effort, knowledge/skills. Pick out every point i made
1. Computer science is a very hard course (I know that because i am studying it as well)
2. If that result was an accurate description of his abilities he cant be a computer science student. Getting an E in physics. Its just not possible
3. I didnt say anything contrary to the bolded above. I simply adviced him to go back and re-learn. Or take the practical route
4. Even if he takes the practical route,he still needs the kmowledge of every subject above. Especially the english that he failed...The hustle for money is very competitive now and being sub-par with your oponents wont allow you compete

Please tell me which one of the above is wrong with reasons.

pls i need enlightment.

This is not a matter of if you can be admitted. Its a matter of if you can be a cs student. You can get admitted only to drop out because you dont know anything

If this is you at your best and theres no bad luck or whatsoever. You cant be a computer science student with this result. Its just too poor c maths. E physics. You didnt even have any b. Computer science is a very hard course. And its not like that ict/computer studies they teach in secondary school.

My advice. Work harder. Attend ss1/2 again if you have to. You need knowledge not just the grades.

Or work on entrepreneurship learn html and css, java etc

My 14 year old cousin stays with me and I just found out he has an assembly line of X videos dot com clips hidden in his phone.

Going by the way I was raised will mean the melodrama of confrontation which will only lead to him - after deleting the current ones - finding out better ways to hide the next batch he will download.

I know because I've been there

So I need a smarter way mostly bordering on a "psychological" approach

Any suggestions please

Cc: onegai ifyalways

Let me give you a logical approach to this

Forget beating him or taking his phone away by force or anything like that. It wont work. The child will be more creative in technology than you.

Saying that we should help you because you caught your cousin with porn is not what you should be asking. You need to understand many things before you can know how to help him.

Is it his first time, how often does he watch it, is he addicted to the porn or self service. Many many questions. Just talk to him and try to understand. No matter how awkward it may be and be as fast as possible. Because the more he watches. The more he gets addicted

Let me just give points to make this shorter.
1. You may have to take away his phone. with his consent he may be trying to stop. You never can know
2. Never let him be alone. You may have to spoil him. Take him out a lot. Let him do activites that will wear hin out. Eg sports. Get him a ps3 or sth. Never let him have nothing to do
3. Assuming hes addicted to self service. Dont tell him all that BS that masturbation will give you erectile dysfunction or diseases.
4. Introduce him to PDA to reduce his sexual urges. But make sure he knows that hes meant to keep it in his pants. This isnt a 100% though. He may be too young but he has to start somewhere
5. Observe him properly. Never allow him stay too long in the toilet/bathroom. Be inconspicuous with your intentions. Pretend as if you want to use it as well
6. Let him sleep in the same room with you
7. Steal his charger so you have more control over his phone
8. And for the love of God. Dont let him go to any hostel. Let him be going to school from home
9. Tell his parents the truth...if you are positive they will over react and make things worse. Just tell them a lie that he told you he has emotional problems or something. Or you noticed he hasnt been sleeping well. Just tell them something that will make em observe him well. Make sure he knows about this so the lie wont spoil
10. Put the idea that "he is ashamed of what he is doing and he doesnt want anyone to find out" in his head by threathening to tell his parents or someone that hes scared of. (Do this before 9)

I still think you should give us more info after talking to the boy.

I am a teenager and i have seen many cases. I am just happy i never had the mind to watch

Very quiet and low key with a maximum of 50 people in attendance. 25 from my side, 25 from his.

What informs my choice is not economy but privacy. It is not how lavish a wedding ceremony is that will determine the success of a marriage.

For example, the 1980 wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana was the most beautiful and lavish wedding ceremony up to that point in history. It was broadcast to billions worldwide and leaders across the world attended.

Today where are they? Prince Charles is married to someone else while Lady Di is in the grave. And they were separated for years before her death.

Noise. It is not by feferity and noise.

Marriage is serious business and people nowadays get so carried away by the fanfare of wedding ceremonies that they forget this immutable fact.
25 people from your side

You
Parents
Siblings
Extended family
Friends

I dont see how less than 25 is possible
Bear in mind most people will have like 2 kids

Get a comptia hardware certification with new horizons nigeria. And theyll hook you up

Did you study computer engineering or another kind?
Do you have practical skills as well?

I get The sacrifice part. But it is relative. Two people with the same gpa wouldnr have put in the same effort(sacrifice)

I think i need serious help. Anytime i lock my phone/laptop away thinking ill read. My mind will just go back to them and ill go and carry them wherever they were left.

Also theres suspense in most films i watch so i cant help but go back. I cant do with my phone as well. Since my class has a whatapp group and i wont like to miss any serious update. Like assignments, rescheduled classes, tutorials etc

Before i got my phone after my waec. I was scared of failing. That made me determined to read. Even when i read the subject that was most interesting to me. Nothing entered my head. After sometime i just gave up and stopped reading. I had 4 a's 5 b's. No expo. But this doesnt work in the university as lecturers spend less time talking. So my listening in class to pass doesnt work now. Maybe its just how my brain is or i need to change my reading method (i have tried every single one i could think of....no effect)

kdon0000:

you have to know that nothing good or great comes without sacrifice. First class no be beans. If its that easy, others would make it. I even heard its easy to make it in priv uni.
1. You have to force yourself. Starve yourself of fun and keep you fun gadgets always away from your reach.if its true that you quickly assimilate the ones in the lecture room and still find it hard to read, then its pure laziness and lack of interest and determination.
2. Making friends doesnt means you have to be following them about. I only discuss with them when its close to exams to remind them and after exam. Sometimes we might not even see each other for 2 months.once its close to exams, then chat them up and discuss the issue with them.
3.you have to sacrifice it.
6. Take all your fun devices, laptop and tv and go and keep it elsewhere. Only move with your torchlight phone.
7. You would do that at home during the holidays not when you get to school.

Sacrifices, determination, prayer, zeal, focus, discipline and motivation is key.
