CALABAR—A Calabar Microfinance Bank situated on Bassey Duke Street was, yesterday evening, assaulted by hooligans, who trucked away huge entireties of cash.

The hoodlums numbering five, according to a staff of the bank, parked their car outside the gates of the bank at about 3p.m. and forced the security man on duty and the bank manager, identified as Dennis, into the banking hall before carrying out their operation. He said: “They asked everyone, including the cashiers and customers, to lie down facing the floor before they broke into the bank vaults and carted away all the money they found there”.

He said the money that was on the counter and on customers were also carted away by the hoodlums before zooming off in their car. “They hit the cashier on the head with the butt of their gun, took away all the money with him, loaded it into their bag and went away,” he added.

He said he could not ascertain the amount of money stolen by the robbers since they had not balanced their books for the day.

Naked photo of a Zambian government worker is trending on social media.

The woman, believed to be a staff at the office of Miles Sampa, the Mayor of Lusaka city, Zambia, sent her nude bathroom selfie to her lover and it was later leaked online.

She’s been criticized by social media users. One of her critics is Larry, a lecturer of Clinical Pharmacology at The University of Zambia -UNZA. He shared her viral photo on Facebook and used her as an example to warn women about the disadvantages of sending nude photos in the name of love.

The House of Representatives has again adjourned sitting till Tuesday, November 20, 2018, over a faulty sound system.

The adjournment comes barely 24 hours after the House initial adjourned sitting to today (Wednesday).

During plenary, Speaker of the House, Yakubu Dogara, stated that the decision was to ensure the sound system is fixed before the next plenary.

According to him, if the problem persists the House will adjourn sitting indefinitely.

The Speaker also noted on that the microphones were installed in 1999 and the panels would take three weeks to arrive Nigeria from Germany.

The presidential candidate of the Alliance Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), Dr Oby Ezekwesili on Monday unveiled her manifesto and programs for the 2019 presidential election.

Dr Ezekwesili presented the manifesto at a press conference in Lagos, which she titled “From Poverty Central To Prosperity: How The ‘Oby’ Ezekwesili Presidency Will Lift 80+ Million Nigerians Out Of Poverty”.

The ACPN candidate described the document as a roadmap, adding that she has a dream of an inclusive and prosperous country where there is equality of opportunity for all.

She said, “The excessive powers of the Federal Government is partially responsible for the stunted growth and poverty of the states and regions.

“We shall lead an economic-based dialogue for correcting the structural imbalance that has hobbled the regions and states and created the failure of our fiscal federalism in its practice.

“The failure of the power sector is the clearest proof of what can happen when the Federal Government refuses to let go of its control.

“This failure is responsible for the situation where 190 million Nigerians manage about 3,500 megawatts of power, whereas, South Africa with 50 million people generates in excess of 50,000 megawatts.

“How can a nation be productive without access to energy.

We need complete and true deregulation of the sector. We can lift many of our citizens out of poverty by filling the infrastructure gaps.

“It is not enough for the fuel subsidy to go. Our government will also deregulate the entire oil sector”.

President Muhammadu Buhari is currently in Paris for the Paris Peace Forum on 10th Nov, delivered an Address on “Illicit Financial Flows & Corruption: The Challenge of Global Governance”.

The president’s speech was at the Opening Ceremony of the event, which has 70 world leaders and governments in attendance, was held at the Grande Halle de la Villette.

However, former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has faulted Buhari’s speech at the forum. In his address, the president was quoted to have said:

“Our experience in Nigeria is that financial crimes, such as corruption and fraudulent activities, generate enormous unlawful profits which often prove so lucrative that the threat of a jail term is not sufficient to deter perpetrators.”

According to the PDP cheiftain, it was wrong for Buhari to go abroad, in the presence of many world leaders, tag his people as thieves and all sorts of demeaning names.


In his words:

What type of leader goes to a foreign country,describes his own people as rogues and consistently says this sort of thing about them?

Buhari suffers from low self-esteem: he has a big chip on his shoulder.The only time he feels complete is when he runs down the Nigerian people.

The staff vehicle of the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, was involved in a car accident at Jere town, enroute Kaduna, on Sunday.

The car was in a convoy along with other vehicles when a lone civilian vehicle skewed off its lane and rammed into the staff vehicle.

The motorist of the civilian car that rammed into the convoy of the Chief of Army Staff is currently being treated at a medical facility.

The case has been reported to the police and is currently being investigated.

Initial findings showed that the driver was under the influence of Alcohol.
