The Nigerian chapter of the Young Professionals in Agricultural Development, YPARD has organized a 1-day fish farm visit and training. It is titled Ypard Nigeria’s Fish farm visit and Training. The event will hold in Ibadan on the 21st of May, 2018 and is proudly supported by Errmms Farms and Mr.Showemimo Akinbowale (@Akinfish) of Asher Farms.

Aquaculture in Nigeria has huge potentials. The Nigerian Government is currently enforcing a directive to have 25% of the fish import quota reduced yearly. This is to enable a backward integration and drive the establishment of more fish farms in the country. Fish in Nigeria is cultured in earthen ponds, Mobile fish ponds, concrete ponds, fish Tanks and Water circulatory systems. This fish farm training and visit would expose you to one of this types of rearing systems.

3 things to expect in this fish farm tour.

Visit a fish farm. That’s the objective right? Here you get to see an operational fish farm and speak to the manager. You observe their practices and can ask questions! You might even get to point and kill? Naaa, I don’t think so!

Network with like-minded young agripreneurs. That’s one thing I love about YPARD. The opportunity to meet and connect with like-minded young agripreneurs.

Get trained on fish farming! Asher farms would speak on fish farming in Nigeria and participants would be taught on how to start their own fish farm.

This event is free but registration is compulsory.

Showemimo Akinbowale,

@akinfish

I like this. I think Gis is underutilised in Nigeria.

Hope u have a ready made market so u don't sell at a loss to those that want to use ur chicks to feed their catfishes. Also hop u have enough capital to feed the chickens till they begin to lay

Please explain, use the chicks to feed their catfishes how ? I am a catfish farmer is why I am interested.

Hmmm

GGfadar:
Gd job.

Pls what's d present cost of d various sizes u have ?

Thanks Ggfadar for your enquiries. Our 8000 litres pond goes for 75k and the 20k mobile ponds goes for 160k. This is for the full setup , frames ,liner and drainage.

Thank you.

Also go and use Ileemore.com !

Have seen quite a number of jamb students in my area saying it's been cool for them...best of luck !

And Yes, Asher Mobile Ponds now delivers our mobile tarpaulin fish ponds and pond Liners to Ghana , Benin and other African countries !

You can call +233 57 353 3877 for Ghana enquiries !

Hello, if you are in Ibadan. You can reach out to me for any questions. This are trying times for we fish farmers but we go still make am.

What are the dimensions of your ponds ?

Hmmm ! This issue ??

We all have to finally find a way for small machines. It gets tougher each year. Now 'imported' farm labour is not less than 220 for 10 months. And is not even ready available. Many promise and fail people.

Just focusing on my Fish for now. Cos that labour issue , na war !

If you are new to fish farming, why don't You take our Fish Farm tour ? where we take you to visit and learn from different successful fish farms within a city with all the different types of ponds in fish farming.

You can read up on this learning experience by checking this page...

Every fish farm is unique. It's not just about copy and paste. You need to understand why they do what they do . This would then help you to make your decisions based on the resources you have.

I like this !

I believe Agriculture and it's institutions in Nigeria would come around to its advantages.

I have worked on some Gis projects. I carried out Land suitability analysis for commercial fish ponds in Ibadan.

I'll share more details and some pics later

Definitely, call my number and let's work things out !

Seun ,

Am not here 2 convince you to believe or anything,

But dont rub your 'disbelief' in other peoples faces. Dont make them doubt their 'faith' because you 'may be wrong'.

Let me put this thought to you...

Whats the difference between a living being and a fresh corpse ? I mean literarily ? A living breathing human being who dies ? 5 minutes or 1 second later ? Whats the difference between his 'living body' and his 'corpse' ?

The difference is something 'unseen'...and cannot be seen...that 'left'

Now you can record 'life', put meters on a heart , explain the brain...explain the functions of all the parts of the body...but once that 'unseen *Spirit*' leaves...the person who died doesnt have the chance to understand his lifeless corpse.

Maybe there are somethings that are unseen , maybe there is something that that 'unseen life' (spirit-whatever name you call it) connects with. Maybe there is someone that I can connect with beyond this my 'flesh'...

Just maybe ?!

I dont have all the answers

1.There is no way you can make profit from the farm in the first year if you are starting with a virgin land.

Speaking from experience

Seconded !

From experience also !

adeniyi65 , Bro, have you actually being on a farm for more than 3 days before ? You wee know that farm-work/business is not as smooth as paper logics.

Theres a lot that is not accounted for in your calculations there.

This is a great entreprenueral lesson....

Bookiemart01:
Lol...
Please any idea of where to get fish smoking quill ?

Do you mean fish smoking 'kiln'

If yes, check my signature and contact me

There's this little trick of having your bath and breakfast before 8:00 am everyday, you just discover that you would achieve more everyday.

I guess this counts for self-employed folks sha.

@ sir Robonski, yes i hav sorted twice and below is a pix of my farm...... Its for a start as a newbie tnks

Great job,

As a Tarpaulin/Mobile Pond Expert, I advise that you get a 'sidebar' for your pond, it can be from the same wood you used, make it 1 feet from the ground, but make it run across.

Something like this below...

If not you won't be able to fill your pond up to the brim and Your material would get stressed quickly otherwise,(am sure you already know what am talking about *winks*)

jethro2:
more Pictures of the tomatoes as of today

Wow, this staking is interesting , the twines seem to be vertical rather than horizontal? I am assuming this isn't from the top ?

Mercie123:
Since @nikashow said the one he uploaded is expensive, please let us not distract ourselves. Let's allow @jethro2 to take us through this step by step. This thread shouldn't be sabotaged unnecessarily. If nobody wants to learn the nitty-gritty of this, which I consider a great discovery, please me I want to learn o...just my humble opinion!

We are all following Jethro 's story, the thread is on green house farming , and I shared my experience also...and am sure she'll welcome other people to share their local attempt at constructing a screen house...
'Expensive is relative' its still several hundred thousands cheaper than dizengoff's.

Keep an open mind...you'll learn from it.

please Add me on 08032425059

kengeorge:
@Nikashow please which materia did they use for the top of you screen house?, looks like net as well

secondly, how did you nurse the tomatoes?,

The top is first covered with nylon and then there's the net as well.

Wow !

Jethro , I remain immensely impressed by your dedication.

I also am following a locally made screen house. Made by some brilliant young minds in ibadan, Nigeria....they are also growing tomatoes, they are doing aeropony, I'm watching out to see the fate of the tomatoes, the screen house they built is still expensive, fabricated locally as well, but looks great for the job, but I want to see the crops result.

Pls, keep up the persistent great work, that gold is close !
