Emmaculate:Am currently in the process of getting one. He said it costs about 400$ at the time of my asking...and it would take about 5 working days for me to have it delivered in ibadan. The marketer on the stand said it came in from U.S |
Please for those calling/asking for some of these products, know that my major interests were the hand weeder (which was for sale) and the plantain seeds (which werent) |
Lolsss @ Saliubello, very true! All those looking for investments should brave this and exploit the processed commodities. You have a good eye. Pavore9, wow...I no know say You be 'tiletile' gan gan...The staff at the table did mention some of the local names that You just mentioned. I thought Kenya has de-Nigerialised you...lolss ![]() |
1st pic: Plantain propagation chamber. 2nd Pic: Different types of maize, some fortified with specific things. 3rd pic: This is for soyabean. It's an inorganic fertilizer. They said it gives a 45%increase in soyabean yield per acre. And the pack works for 0.25ha. Called it 3$ per pack. Sounds fair to me... 4th Pic: Maybe because I am a fish person I wasnt too impressed with the Fish of their 'IIYA' sha...though the least size they sold was 1.5kg

Some other interesting things- 1st Picture is a 'museum' of seeds, kinda like an archive. This are collected seeds. They said this are the kind of groundnut and cowpea that our parents and grad parents eat but we don't grow again because it takes extra time to prepare, but they think it's as nutritious, so they collect and preserve the seeds. Some were straight up black, striped, coloured etc 2nd, as usual- plenty oyinbo everywhere with their bicycles, shorts etc- it's not a new thing for IITA frequenters sha- and we are all treated the same, no discrimination or preference. 3rd Pic: A raffle draw was held, first price gets a tour to an African country. Unfortunately, I no win am

Before our cassava guys vex for me...lols...first pic is grater and mulcher (or whatever they call it), beside it is the 'press'. 2nd pic is boom sprayer with a wide range (I've forgotten the range now) 3rd Pic is Cassava harvester- pulled by a tractor.

Derivatives (possibe uses) of cassava ! 1st Pic Yam 2nd Pic Rice 3rd Pic Plantain 4th Pic

This bag (3rd pic) produces the small yam tubers in second pics which when replanted give the large yams that the farmer needs. The bags are used for propagation exclusively...but am sure someone here is thinking of some sack farming already. I think it would work well for potatoes.

Now I know a lot of nairalander farmers would be interested in this one ! I am too ! It's a weeding machine! And I heard it's available for sale. It's imported and can work between furrows depending on the spacing. As You can see from the teeth, the thing would scatter all those unwanted weeds!
|
This are plantain 'seeds' ! The seeds can only be cultured in a green house as the germination rate is still very poor and so it's not yet available for sale. but Kudos to them as they seem to be actively working on this innovation! The seeds are transplanted in 3 stages of growth and acclimatization before they take to the field. So IITA in ibadan had its annual open day today. The event which was strictly by invitation was both informative and entertaining. As a research institute, many agricultural innovation were on display. Find some of them below. I'll just let the pictures do the talking. 2nd Pic: Yours truly and the DG of IITA, Dr.Nteranya Sanginga. He has been the DG since 2011. He is from DR of Congo and well traveled and verse. You can Google him.Further enquiries on any of the products should please be directed to their office in ibadan as I am not an IITA staff. Though there are some things I saw that I am going to personally follow up and acquire, as I am hugely vested into agriculture as well.
